Body of man pulled from water as search teams descend on canal and police set up cordon

THE BODY of a man has been pulled from a canal in Manchester, following a search operation last night.

Search teams discovered the body of a man while attending the Rochdale Canal in Miles Platting on Sunday evening.

Underwater divers joined the operation on Hulme Hall Lane, near the canal, as a cordon was put in place from around 8pm.

Greater Manchester Police attended the scene after reports “possessions” were found on the canal bank.

A GMP spokesperson said: “We were alerted to some possessions on the canal bank and when we have searched the canal, we have found the body of a man.

“ID still being done, doesn’t look suspicious at this stage.”

The man is yet to be identified, and enquiries are still ongoing.

His death is currently not believed to be suspicious.

Manchester Evening News report that multiple police vehicles were seen in the area, as well as forensic investigators gathering evidence in bags on Hulme Hall Lane last night.

People were also asked to avoid the area as the cordon remained in place.
