Big-hearted Jack Butland meets son of tragic Rangers fan Christopher Potter as players all say ‘that was for you Teddy’

THIS is the heartwarming moment Jack Butland celebrated last night’s Europa League triumph with the son of tragic fan Christopher Potter who was killed in Turkey last week.

The 40-year-old roofer passed away in Istanbul after he was struck by two vehicles in a road traffic accident before the first leg against Fenerbahce.

Rangers skipper James Tavernier this week revealed the Gers season ticket holder was in the players’ thoughts ahead of last night’s decider.

And that was still the case after the game finished as Butland, 32, wanted to share his big moment at Ibrox with the tragic fan’s son Teddy at full-time.

The young fan was spotted in the arms of the Rangers goalkeeper at the side of the pitch after his heroics in the shootout.

Adorable pictures were shared on social media by the cousin of Holly Potter, Christopher’s wife.

One of the pics was posted along with the caption: “You’re dad would be so proud wee guy. RIP Christopher thoughts are with my cuz Holly and little Teddy.”

Christopher’s wife Holly attended last night’s game with children Jak, Millie and Teddy along with family and friends after being invited by the club.

She was left “overwhelmed” by all the support as banners were unfurled by both Rangers and Fenerbahce fans during the match.

A minute’s applause was also held in her husband’s honour in the 40th minute.

Speaking today, Holly also revealed the family received some very special gifts from club icons, including a heartfelt message from the players.

Holly said: “I was totally overwhelmed at the outpouring of emotion on the 40th minute last night.

“The Rangers family really came together, and I know Christopher would have been chuffed to bits to see how they paid their respects. Credit to the Fenerbahce fans for joining in too.

“I have to thank all the players from the bottom of my heart. After the game Teddy got to go down pitchside, and he got to meet his Rangers hero Jack Butland and get a photo.

“Jack also gave him his top from last night, and all the players signed it.

“The message on it said: ‘That was for you Teddy’.

“I can’t thank them enough, and I know Christopher would have been absolutely buzzing Teddy got to meet Brian Laudrup, his favourite player of all time.

“Allan McGregor also gave Teddy a pair of signed goalie gloves.

“A huge thank you to everyone at Rangers, not just the players, but all the staff who were so kind and respectful.

“Christopher would have been so proud of Teddy, and Jak and Millie, last night.

“Obviously the pain we are all feeling at the moment is indescribable, but there is some comfort knowing how well loved and well-thought of Christopher was.”
