At its core, Marvel Rivals is a team-based PvP brawler, which has players duke it out in teams against each other. The game also features a wide selection of game modes, each offering a unique experience.
These modes can be divided into Convoy, Domination and Convergence – available in both ranked and unranked variants, with specific maps designed for each mode.
There also exist two bonus arcade game modes – Conquest and Doom Match with an additional, limited-time Clone Rumble being there as well.
Best Team Combos For All Match Types in Marvel Rivals

There exist a few ideal team compositions for each game mode, many of which perform a lot better when compared to the rest. More on these ‘ideal’ team compositions below, sorted per map:
Convoy
- Yggsrasill Path (Attack): Magneto/Groot/Hela/Spider-Man/Luna Snow/Loki
- Yggdrasill Path (Defense): Venom/Thor/Spider-Man/Storm/Hela/Loki/Luna Snow
- Spider-Islands: Magneto/Doctor Strange/Storm/Iron Man/Luna Snow/Adam Warlock
- Midtown: Magneto/Doctor Strange/Storm/Iron Man/Luna Snow/Adam Warlock
- Central Park: Magneto/Doctor Strange/Storm/Iron Man/Luna Snow/Adam Warlock
Magneto and Venom remain one of the tankiest vanguards here, and can take a lot of abuse and live to tell the tale. On the other hand, Spider-Man is a versatile attacker/Duelist, with great mobility and speed – much like other characters in this list (such as Storm and Iron Man).
Luna Snow and Adam Warlock remain the best Strategist options currently, offering good heals and a decent amount of status buffs.
Domination
- Royal Palace: Magneto/Venom/Namor/Iron Man/Mantis/Adam Warlock
- Birnin T’Challa: Groot/Magneto/Scarlet Witch/Iron Fist/Adam Warlock/Mantis
- Hell’s Heaven: Peni Parker/Doctor Strange/Star-Lord/Spider-Man/Adam Warlock/Rocket Racoon
Magneto remains an easy pick here, and is a solid Vanguard overall, thanks to his offensive and defensive capabilities, especially when paired with Scarlet Witch. Groot in particular is very useful thanks to his blocking abilities, which gives him a unique role.
On the other hand, Duelists such as Iron Fist and Spider-Man remain your bread and butter, used to decimate the opponent defense line with relative ease.

Rocket Racoon is a bit of a wild card here, having useful perks no other hero possesses.
Mantis and Adam Warlock remain the backbone of the Strategist team here.
Convergence
- Shin-Shibuya (Attack): Groot/Venom/The Punisher/Hawkeye/Rocket Racoon/Mantis
- Shin-Shibuya (Defense):Magneto/Venom/Scarlet Witch/The Punisher/Rocket Racoon/Luna Snow
- Hall of Djalia (Attack): Thor/Venom/Hawkeye/Storm/Adam Warlock/Loki
- Hall of Djalia (Defense): Magneto/Groot/Hawkeye/Scarlet Witch/Mantis/Luna Snow
- Symbiotic Surface (Attack): Captain America/Venom/Spider-Man/The Punisher/Cloak and Dagger/Luna Snow
- Symbiotic Surface (Defense): Magneto/Peni Parker/Spider-Man/Hawkeye/Luna Snow/Adam Warlock
Groot, Venom and Magneto are your standard, run-of-the-mill Vanguards, that are both capable of defending against threats as well as dishing out damage to assist the team periodically.
Hawkeye, The Punisher and Scarlet Witch remain top-tier picks for Duelists, and deal a respectable amount of damage – while Luna Snow and Adam Warlock are your usual support options.
Conquest
Conquest is another spin on the Deathmatch formula. Players are split into two teams with 6 players each, and are given the objective of eliminating as many players as possible. The first team to score 50 points wins.
Enemies drop Coins upon their death, which is then used to add to the total point tally. Unlike other game modes, Conquest lacks Competitive and Quick Match options.
Try bringing DPS and Vanguard units for this particular mode – no meta restrictions are implemented.
Doom Match
Doom Match is a free-for-all Deathmatch game mode. Players can choose any character they wish and are sorted into teams of 6 players each. The mode takes place in the Sanctum Sanctorum map, which can be a headache to navigate through.
It’s more of an arcade style session, where the player to secure 16 kills first is declared the winner.
It is best to stick to strong DPS units and Vanguards for this particular game mode.
Clone Rumble

Clone Rumble is a rather unique game mode, and takes place within the Birnin T’Challa map. In short, players assemble into teams of 6 with each side picking a player of their own. The game then randomly picks one hero per team, which serves as the only two playable characters for the entire duration of the match.
Players take part in a battle royale, free to all where chaos ensues. This game mode is limited, and will only be available until April 11, 2025. Completing it will reward players with the Mrs. Barnes Black Widow skin.
Given the nature of this particular game mode, there are no meta selections of the sort.
