There is set to be a “changeable” weekend in store as rain hits the country despite mostly dry conditions.

It has also been reported that homes across the country are waking up to much warmer weather following a number of nights of minus figures.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “A lovely sunrise here in the sunny Southeast at Wexford as that cloud moves East temperatures range from 1C in East to 11C in West.

“Some patchy drizzle today but dryer further East.”

While there will be a good share of dry conditions over the long weekend, rainfall is expected overnight in some parts.

Brandon Creagh from Met Eireann added that rain is expected to hit parts of the south and west today, with north Leinster and east Ulster remaining dry.

He said: “While it’s a fairly changeable weekend in store with cloudy conditions today and scattered patches of light rain and drizzle.

“There will be some dry weather across north Leinster and east Ulster, and feeling breezy with moderate to fresh southerly winds turning strong at times near Atlantic coasts, highs today of about 9C to 12C.”

Tonight will see rainfall develop early from the west before quickly moving across the country.

He added: “Overnight, a band of rain will push in from the Atlantic early on tonight, gradually extending eastwards across the country.

“A clearance following from the western half of the country before dawn on Sunday with lowest temperatures of 2C to 6C.”

Tomorrow is set to see any of that rain or drizzle clear early on from the east, but remaining in other parts of the country.

Brandon said: “Into tomorrow’s Sunday, that rain and drizzle in eastern areas will clear early on to leave a largely dry and bright day across the country.

“Good spells of hazy sunshine tomorrow but it will become more overcast in the northwest later on in the day with highest temperatures of 7C to 10C in a moderate to fresh southwest wind.”

As the Bank Holiday Monday rolls around, there is some more “changeable” weather in play.

Bank Holiday Monday will see outbreaks of rain to come in, with the remainder of the week looking to improve as the days go by.

There will be outbreaks of rain from the Atlantic which will mainly impact the west and northwest, with dry weather elsewhere.

Brandon said: “Looking ahead then to the rest of the week, some changeable weather on the way with rain and showers at times, but also plenty of dry weather too.”
