TWO elderly sisters have been found dead in a Belfast house today.
Police discovered the bodies of the two women at a property in the Finaghy Road area of south Belfast.
Locals in the area have been left “very sad” by the shock discovery this morning.
Emergency services and PSNI officers rushed to the house at about 1.30pm after the alarm was raised.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden deaths of two people at a residential property in the Finaghy area of south Belfast.
“The deaths were discovered this morning, Friday 31 January.
“At this stage of our enquiries, it is not believed that the deaths are suspicious.”
Neighbours told The Belfast Telegraph how the community was left in shock.
One resident recalled how he assisted one of the sisters getting to the door.
He said: “The woman we helped was caring for her sister, who I think was aged in her 90s, but she probably needed care herself. It’s awful.”
He added: “Everyone gets on and you always have someone to take the bins in for you if you’re ever away. This is very sad.”
Another neighbour told how there have been “a lot of deaths” in the area.
He said: “One man died shortly before Christmas, and another man right beside him died on the same morning I think.
“They were both very elderly, but it’s still so sad.
“Everyone gets on well around here, there’s never any trouble.”
Separately, an elderly man was shot five times by a group of masked men who broke into his home last night.
