THE Bank Holiday weekend is looking to bring “changeable” weather to Irish shores as rain and cold take over.
“Plenty” of dry conditions are expected to hit for the long weekend, but forecasters have warned that this won’t be without heavy rain and chilly temperatures at times.
Frost was seen in Carlow this morning as temperatures dropped[/caption]
The cold weather has already begun in parts of the country, with thousands waking up to minus figures today.
Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly said: “A cold morning with frost for many with a low of -3.9c at my station near Tullow, meanwhile further west its is -3.7c at Tulla in Clare.
“Cloud will push in from West this afternoon with some heavy rain this evening clearing overnight moving East across the country.”
Met Eireann’s Rebecca Cantwell has also warned of heavy rain making an appearance this evening, with conditions to continue into the weekend.
She said: “Our weather will be changeable as we move towards the Bank Holiday weekend.
“We’ll see plenty of dry and bright conditions along with some spells of rain at times.”
She added that today will be mostly dry but isolated showers will be contained to the north and west.
She added: “This morning, it’s largely dry and bright with sunny spells and just isolated showers, mainly in the north and west.
“It’ll become cloudier this afternoon from the west and outbreaks of rain or drizzle will develop in Atlantic counties by evening. Highest afternoon temperatures will cool 5C to 8C.”
Overnight, rain will become heavy early on but clear soon with temperatures seeing a sharp drop.
“Rebecca said: “Tonight rain will spread eastwards across the country early on and it’ll be heavy at times but it’ll quickly clear and then there’ll just be the odd shower following in from the west. Temperatures will fall to a chilly 0-5 degrees overnight.”
‘BEST DAY’
Friday is set to see the calm before the storm for the Bank Holiday weekend, with the best of the weather hitting.
She said: “Tomorrow, Friday, will bring the best day of the week as it looks set to be a dry day with spells of sunshine that’ll turn hazy at times.
“It’ll be a milder day tomorrow as temperatures rise to between 7-10 degrees in just light southerly breezes.”
This will all change on Saturday when rain and drizzle emerge, bringing windier weather with it.
Rebecca added: “Saturday on the other hand will be a rather cloudy and breezy day with outbreaks of light rain over the west and south but heavier, more persistent rain will move into the west and southwest by evening. That rain will spread eastwards overnight.”
Sunday will then see rain to start the day before it clears in the early afternoon.
While Monday will again see rain spread, with breezier conditions rolling in.
Rebecca said: “Sunday will start out wet in the east but the rain won’t be long clearing away with dry and bright conditions returning for the rest of the day.
“Bank Holiday Monday will see further breezy conditions with scattered showers at first before rain and drizzle move in over the western half of the country.

ALDI is known for its incredible dupes.
And it seems like the high street store has done it again – with a budget fragrance that’s mightily similar to a Victoria Beckham scent.
Victoria’s scent is inspired by a trip to Portofino she took with husband David[/caption]
Jo was among those to get her hands on the £6.99 version of Posh’s £170 perfume – Portofino ’97 Eau de Parfum – and urged people to “run” to Aldi to pick up one for themselves.
She held up a box of the Classic Italia fragrance as she said in a video on her TikTok page: “When I found out that the latest Aldi drop, they were actually doing these perfumes, I ran.
“You cannot have enough of this perfume on you. It is exquisite. It is £6.99.
“You need to get this!”
Jo pointed out that even the bottle looks expensive and “stunning”, and said she wanted to see if any of her work colleagues commented on the scent.
“I’m going to go into work today and I’m going to see if people notice that I am wearing a very high-end fragrance, also known as Lacura Classic Italia!
“Get yourself down to Aldi. This is amazing.”
“Perfume drop in@Aldi UKright now!!! Pick up these fragrances quick!” Jo captioned her video.
“I find the Aldi perfume lasts five minutes,” one person wrote in the comments section.
To which Jo replied: “Not this one! It’s lasted all day.”
“I have this – it’s gorgeous and lasts well,” another added.
“I got that fragrance and get so many compliments on it.. lasts a couple of days too,” a third insisted.
“I love it – I’ve got three bottles!” someone else wrote.
“What do you think of the initial smell?” another asked.
“I think it’s really unusual and very distinctive,” Jo replied.
The top notes of Victoria’s Portofino fragrance are Calabrian bergamot and black pepper, with amber and incense middle notes and vetiver and patchouli at the base.

Speaking previously about what inspired the scent, the former Spice Girls star said: “When David and I first met, we kept our relationship under wraps.
“This was when I was in the Spice Girls, when we were enormously successful all around the world, and David was playing for Manchester United.
“In 1997, we decided to take a trip to Portofino.
“I remember the light, I remember how the hotel smelled and how exciting that time was.
It all kicked off at the beginning of the week during a game of truth or dare, as the Islanders enjoyed a Las Vegas themed evening.
It started when Scott said he had a truth he wanted to as Grace – who Luca is coupled up with – but said he “didn’t want to say” it aloud.
The row then escalated further and the other Islanders were forced to step in, and the group tried to continue playing after the first row, but things took a turn for the worst when Luca was dared to kiss who is in here for fame.
In the scenes that played out, Luca kissed Scott on the cheek and said he thinks he wants to get far in the villa, adding “that’s why you’re with Tina and you’re not feeling it now”.
Tina looked horrified and asked for someone to explain – as she learnt the truth she walked away crying.
Furious, Scott squared up to Luca for the second time and asked: “This guy, who are you bro? Wow?”
The row came after Scott confided in the boys about how he was really feeling about Tina – who he is coupled up with.
However, despite Scott being the bigger person and apologising to Luca, he has faced some backlash from fans over the arguement.
Now his twin brother Adam Thomas has jumped to his defense in a lengthy Instagram post.
Sharing a sweet picture of himself and his bro, the Emmerdale star wrote: “I honestly didn’t think I could love this guy anymore!! I was wrong…
“The way he’s carried himself and gone about dealing with the heat especially after the lovers tiff between him and Luca,
“I mean who was in the wrong or who was in the right, its irrelevant now-they’ve moved on which is the main thing, but I just felt like he handled it beautifully afterwards with not only Luca but also Tina as well…
“Thing is with are Scott he doesn’t let people in quickly because he’s been hurt in the past, so he treads very carefully when getting to know someone, as he’s trying to protect himself, but for us as a family it’s so nice to see him trying and giving things ago, but it’s hard for him to let his guard down,I get it…but Scott’s just being true to himself.
Continuing the actor said: “He may like Tina he may not…but… I just feel for him a little now, because I feel like there maybe some extra added pressure now and that’s the last thing he needs!
“I just feel what ever move he makes now he’s gonna be judged either way! But so be it… it’s love island! Haha
“But me knowing Scott more than anyone,he’ll be just fine whatever choice he makes! Just want to say thank you to everyone for supporting him and sharing the love.”
The Waterloo star ended the touching message with on a light note, and wrote: “Just looking forward now… to me coming in as a bombshell.”
