Netflix finally adds new button fans have been begging for that instantly speeds up downloading favourite TV shows

NETFLIX has added a new button to the app that should make downloading TV shows a lot less hassle.

Weirdly, the feature has been available on Android for sometime now but iPhone and iPad has been mysteriously left out.

The handy button has just landed on iPhone and iPad[/caption]

In fact, it’s been around for Android since 2021.

The change solves a pain many TV fans have experienced when preparing a binge of their favourite programmes.

And it’s the ability to download entire seasons all at once.

Until now, iPhone and iPad owners had to go through the effort of tapping each episode individually.

But thanks to this small but significant update, users on iOS now have the power to download a full season with one tap.

“Today, we’re adding a much-requested Season Download button for all iPhone and iPad users,” Netflix said.

“This feature, which Android users already know and love, allows you to download every episode in a season with just one tap.

“Whether you’re gearing up for a long flight and ready to dive into the new season of The Night Agent, a cross-country train ride with XO Kitty Season 2 keeping you company, or just planning some downtime offline, this feature has you covered with just the click of a button.”

The new button will appear beneath the synopsis and cast information, next to the share icon.

It is labelled as “Download Season” followed by the season number.

NETFLIX PRICE INCREASES

The move comes days after the streaming giant announced that it will increase prices in the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina.

However, an expert has told The Sun that other countries including the UK should brace for a subscription hike too soon.

“Typically, the UK often follows the US and should expect news in due course around a similar percentage increase,” Paolo Pescatore, an analyst from PP Foresight said.

“Price rises were widely expected and we should expect other countries to follow suit in due course,” Paolo explained.

“The streaming business is following the traditional pay TV world with annual price rises.

“We should get accustomed to these price rises, more so as the streamer broadens its diversified portfolio of programming.

“In particular if it makes further opportunistic moves into acquiring live sports.”

XL Bully ban: Irish owners’ rights as dog breed becomes illegal to own in two DAYS – here’s how it works & exemptions

THE ban on XL Bully dogs is in full swing following calls for tighter pet control measures after a number of attacks.

Former Rural and Community Development Minister Heather Humphreys announced the ban in summer, with the first phase kicking in last October and the second phase coming into play on February 1.

The move came following a number of “horrific” attacks by XL Bullies last year, with Department claiming that the ban is in the interest of safety.

Minister Humphreys explained at the time: “These new regulations will ensure that, from October, nobody in the State can take ownership of these dangerous dogs and that it will be illegal to breed, sell, import, rehome, exchange, gift or abandon XL Bully dogs.”

She added: “I know a lot of people will not agree with this decision. I’m a dog owner myself and I know people love their dogs.

“We must be mindful however that no dog’s life is worth more than human life. Ultimately that is what guided me in making this decision.

“The XL bully was responsible for the horrific attack on Alejandro Mizsan in Wexford last year and it was also the breed which killed a young woman in Limerick.

“If we do not take action now the number of these dogs in the country will grow and my fear is that these attacks will become more frequent.

“It is my strong view that Ireland should not be out of step with neighbouring jurisdictions in Northern Ireland and the UK on this matter.”

This will be the first time a dog has been fully banned in Ireland —until now, the state has followed a restricted breed list with 11 dog breeds included.

The first phase of the ban began on October 1, 2024, making it illegal to import, breed or re-sell XL Bullies.

An XL bully dog is the largest of the American Bully Breed and is usually a mix of a number of breeds – including an American pit bull terrier.

Then on February 1, 2025, owning an XL Bully in Ireland will be illegal.

This applies to all XL bully dogs except in cases where owners have a “Certificate of Exemption”.

The new ban was created after consultation with a Stakeholder Group on Dog Control and Retired Garda Commissioner John Twomey.

ARE ANY DOG BREEDS BANNED IN IRELAND?

No breed of dog is currently banned in Ireland. But with certain breeds of dog, additional rules must be followed.

This applies to the following types of dog, as well as strains or cross-breeds of these breeds:

  • American pit bull terrier
  • English bull terrier
  • Staffordshire bull terrier
  • Bull mastiff
  • Dobermann pinscher
  • German shepherd (Alsatian)
  • Rhodesian ridgeback
  • Rottweiler
  • Japanese akita
  • Japanese tosa
  • Bandog

In Ireland, restricted dogs or strains and crosses of them must be:

  • Kept on a short strong lead of under two metres
  • With someone over the age of 16, who is able to control them
  • Muzzled when in a public place
  • Wearing a collar with the name and address of their owner, at all times

But Minister Heather Humphreys confirmed more severe rules could be on the cards, saying: “I have asked the Group to examine the restricted breeds list, in line with actions being taken in the UK and Northern Ireland.

“I am committed to working with colleagues across Government in taking whatever action is necessary to strengthen our dog control laws.”

Minister Humphreys explained: “These new regulations will ensure that, from October, nobody in the State can take ownership of these dangerous dogs and that it will be illegal to breed, sell, import, rehome, exchange, gift or abandon XL Bully dogs.

“Secondly, I will be bringing in a system of certification for existing owners of XL Bully dogs.

“Over the period 1st October 2024 to 1st February 2025 all existing XL Bully owners will have to apply for a Certificate of Exemption.”

What will penalties be for owning an XL Bully?

After February 1, 2025, “any owner who is not compliant with the new regulations will have their dog seized and euthanized.”

Penalties for the XL bully ban will align with penalties outlined in the Control of Dogs Act.

Any person found guilty of an offence could face a fine of up to €2,500 and up to three months in prison.

In addition, any dog found stray or abandoned will be seized by the dog warden and may be put down after five days unless claimed.

How do dogs get Certificates of Exemption?

The only instance where an XL Bully will be allowed in Ireland is if the owner receives a Certificate of Exemption for the dog.

The Department of Rural and Community development said these will be issued under strict criteria.

This includes a requirement for licensing, microchipping and neutering the XL Bully.

The Department has also warned that additional criteria may be introduced upon discussion with the Stakeholder Group on Dog Control.

How will the ban be implemented?

An additional €2 million has been allocated in funding to enable local authorities to expand and improve their pound and warden facilities.

This is in addition to the extra €2 million that was announced for dog warden facilities in November 2023.

The Department said that this funding will “help local authorities manage the increased demands” due to the new regulations.

What is the new XL Bully ban?

HERE is everything you need to know about the new XL Bully ban in Ireland.

The XL Bully ban comes into force in two stages beginning on the October 1, 2024, with a full ownership ban from February 1 2025.

The period between these two dates will allow current XL Bully dog owners time to apply for a Certificate of Exemption from their local authority to permit them to keep their dog until the end of its natural life.

There will be no fee for the certificate of exemption.

Owners will be able to apply for a certificate of exemption from their local authority from 1st October subject to the dog being:

  • Licensed
  • Microchipped
  • Neutered

Certificates of Exemption

The Certificate of Exemption will be unique to each XL Bully type dog and owner.

It will specify the dog’s licence details, microchip details, neutering details, age and description. It will also specify the dog owner’s name, address, date of birth and contact number.

A Certificate of Exemption is issued by the Local Authority and authorises the owner of an XL Bully type dog to keep that dog at a particular premises until the natural end of the dog’s life.

After February 1, 2025, all XL Bully type dog owners should either be in possession of a Certificate of Exemption or have proof that they applied for a Certificate of Exemption.

Owners must apply to their local authority after October 1, 2024.

No fee will be charged for a Certificate of Exemption.

Penalties for breaching the regulations

Any owner found to be in breach of the regulations will have committed an offence under the Control of Dogs Act 1986.

The dog may be seized and euthanized in a humane manner and the owner will be subject to the penalties outlined in that Act:

A fine of up to €2,500, or imprisonment of a term of up to 3 months, or both.

Minister Humphreys said that the Department worked on a cross-government level with local authorities, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Gardai and the Revenue Commissioners.

She said: “The timelines I have set out will ensure that existing owners have time to obtain Certificates of Exemption and that the systems are in place to enforce the regulations once enacted.”

Why has the ban been put into place?

In June, Nicole Lisa Marie Morey, 23, was killed by her dogs at her home in Fedamore, Co Limerick.

While announcing the ban, Minister Humphreys explained that although she is a dog owner herself, “no dog’s life is worth more than human life.”

She said: “I know a lot of people will not agree with this decision.

“I’m a dog owner myself and I know people love their dogs.

What were the regulations for dogs before ban?

This will be the first time a dog has been fully banned in Ireland —until now, the state has followed a restricted breed list.

Dogs on the restricted breeds list require owners an additional set of rules.

These include being muzzled in public, using a lead shorter than two metres—which must be strong—wearing a collar with the owner’s information at all times, and only being led by those over 18.

This list includes 11 dog breeds.

Where are the cast of Smallville now? From drink-drive arrest for show’s heartthrob to joining a cult

SMALLVILLE follows the coming-of-age adventures of teenage Clark Kent in his fictional hometown before he formally becomes the Man of Steel.

The American superhero television series premiered in 2001 and received accolades ranging from Emmys to Teen Choice Awards.

When its tenth and final season ended in 2011 fans were sad to see the show end.

This week, it was revealed that the show’s lead actor Tom Welling had been arrested for DUI in California.

Now, The Sun Online takes a look at what became of the Tom and the other stars of the programme.

Tom played the lead role of the teenage Clark Kent/Superman in the series.

A young man with superhuman abilities who tries to find his place in life after discovering that he is an extra-terrestrial in origin.

Since then, Tom has starred in Lucifer and Professionals, as well as a film released last year called Mafia Wars.

But he was arrested this week in Northern California in connection with driving under the influence.

TMZ reported the actor was taken into custody in the parking lot of an Arby’s restaurant shortly after midnight.

The outlet cited police records which stated his blood alcohol level read at, or above 0.08 per cent.

Tom has since been released from custody after he was cited for the violation, but is yet to comment publicly.

Erica played Louis Lane the love interest for Clark Kent and his alter-ego Superman.

Lois’s relationship with Clark is shown in the beginning as more as a brother/sister relationship, with the two characters often arguing with each other.

But by season 10, the relationship goes through several milestones and the loved up pair get engaged.

Since then Erica has starred as Dr. Alex Reid in the medical drama series Saving Hope and in films such as The Untold, The Butterfly Effect 2 , Final Verdict and Painkillers.

She has also appeared in several Lifetime and Hallmark films, including I Me Wed, Wedding Planner Mystery and A Scottish Love Scheme

Kristen played girl next door Lana Lane who is grieving the loss of her parents and is the first main love interest for Clark.

Although she left the series after the seventh season, she returned for five episodes in season eight as a special guest star.

Since then she has played Catherine Chandler in the sci-fi series Beauty & the Beast and as Joanna Hanley in the legal drama series Burden of Truth.

She has also starred in Reacher and Murder in a Small Town, portrayed Chun-Li in the American martial arts film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and has starred in films.

In 2018, Globalnews reported that Kirsten was linked to a self-help group that was alleged to be a sex-trafficking cult, after NXIVM leader Keith Raniere was arrested and charged with keeping women as sex slaves and branding them as his property.

Following the arrest, Kirsten disclosed on her Twitter account that she had joined NXIVM believing it was a “self-help” group but left in 2014, and had not witnessed any illegal or nefarious activities during her time in the group.

Kirsten’s statement was backed by actress Sarah Edmondson, who had participated in exposing NXIVM’s activities.

Kirsten moved back to Vancouver in September 2022 after living in Toronto for a few years to study her undergraduate degree and pursue producing opportunities.

Michael played Lex Luthor, a billionaire’s son sent to Smallville to run the local fertilizer plant.

After Clark saves his life, they become fast friends but as the series progresses, Lex’s friendship with Clark crumbles until they consider themselves enemies.

Michael left the show after seven seasons reprising his role for the series finale.

Since then he has become known for portraying Martinex in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, Parker in Urban Legend, Adam/Adina in Sorority Boys and Dutch Nilbog in Breaking In.

He also has an extensive voiceover career in animation, such as his role of Wally West / The Flash in the DC Animated Universe series Justice League and its sequel Justice League Unlimited (2004–2006).

Between 2015 and 2016, he played the lead role in the TV Land comedy series Impastor.

Allison played editor of the school newspaper, Chloe Sullivan, who was one of Clark’s best friends, but was secretly in love with him.

However her journalistic curiosity created tension with her friends especially when she investigated Clark’s past.

After Smallville, Allison was cast in a recurring role in the second season of the sitcom Wilfred and guest-starred as a policewoman named Hilary in an episode of the thriller The Following.

Shockingly, it was later revealed that Allison was a member of NXIVM, a cult and multi-level marketing company.

The Sun Online led the way in uncovering claims about the group and its supposed members back in 2017.

In 2018 she was arrested by federal authorities on charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labour conspiracy related to her involvement in NXIVM and its subgroup, DOS.

Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering and racketeering conspiracy charges and in 2021 was sentenced to three years in prison.

She served 21 months in Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin, in California and was released in July 2023.

However, she returned to make guest appearances in the final two seasons, reprising her role, while also portraying The Red Queen.

Since then, Annette has played the role of Veronica, a middle-aged woman with a severe case of Alzheimer’s, in the television series Lie to Me.

She has also appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, Halt and Catch Fire and Stephen King’s 11.22.63.

She and former Smallville co-star John Glover reunited for the horror film We Go On.

Currently, Annette plays the role of Hope McCrea in the Netflix series Virgin River and has done for the last six years.

‘I love you forever’ – Tearful scenes as Donegal Storm Eowyn victim, 20, laid to rest & girlfriend in emotional tribute

MOURNERS were told “his love is stronger than his death” at the funeral of a young man who died in a Storm Eowyn crash – as his heartbroken girlfriend paid and emotional tribute.

Hundreds of mourners crammed into St Patrick’s Church in Lifford in Co Donegal for the funeral of tragic Kacper Dudek who made his home amongst them.

Although born in Poland, Kacper Dudek and his loving family had made their new home in the border town when Kacper was just a toddler.

Kacper had been educated locally, played sport and had settled into a job with a company in Letterkenny.

But his life came to a tragic end aged just 20 years when a tree fell on his car during the early hours of Friday morning last as the most vicious of storms in living memory began to take hold.

The heartbreaking mass was said in both Polish and English in honour of Kacper of Beechwood Park, Lifford and formerly of Brody, Poland.

Mourners gathered long before the cortege arrived with a guard of honour formed by Kacper’s work colleagues from Zeus Industrial Products in Letterkenny as well as schoolchildren from his former secondary secondary school Holy Cross College in Strabane as well as members of Sion Sifts Football Club.

Many of those attending the mass brought white roses in Kacper’s memory while his heartbroken family handed out memorial cards in his honour which read ‘With Love We Remember Kacper Dudek, Forever In Our Hearts.’

Chief celebrant Fr Ignacy Saniuta, a Polish priest in the Derry Diocese, said Kacper’s death raised many questions.

Fr Saniuta in his bilingual homily asked: “Why did such a young person with so much life ahead of him have to leave in such a tragic way?

“We do not know the answers, but we know one thing, Kacper has gone to God and his love is stronger than death.”

He added that Kacper will be remembered as a young man full of joy, passion and love for others.

LOVE FOR FAMILY

Fr Saniuta said: “Many of us will remember him as a young man who truly enjoyed life. Kacper loved to spend time with his family and his special relationship with his younger brother and sister were very important to him.”

Kacper taught his brother Karol how to play football and he was always protective of his younger sister Weronika, he added.

One of the most important loves in his life was his girlfriend Molly, who he truly loved and treated with care and affection.

Mourners were told: “She was very special to him, their relationship was full of tenderness and love.”

Kacper was proud of his heritage, having moved from Brody in Poland to Ireland with his parents Artur and Katarzyna Dudek when he was two and a half years old.

Fr Saniuta said: “He was interested in the history of Poland and proud of who he was.”

Fr Saniuta was assisted by Fr Michael Gallagher and Fr Pat O’Kane.

The offertory gifts represented Kacper’s life’s passions and personality traits. A Barcelona FC shirt showcased his love of football, especially Lionel Messi.

‘FULL OF ENERGY’

Aftershave was presented as part of his beloved cologne collection, symbolising his attention to detail and love of the little things in life. Kacper’s beloved childhood toy, a plush dog teddy, was held up to represent his tenderness and care.

Fr Saniuta said Kacper loved working and was always true to himself.

Fr Saniuta said: “He was happy to have secured a job in Zeus and was proud of his achievements.

“Kacper was full of energy, passion and joy. He knew how to enjoy life and was not afraid to be himself, sometimes breaking the rules and never ashamed to be different.”

Fr Saniuta delivered comforting words to mourners that Kacper had faith in his heart.

Fr Saniuta said: “In the last month of his life, he visited this local church on his way to work, praying to God, seeking answers to questions of life, faith and purpose. Kacper wanted to understand what it meant to believe and live by faith.

“One day in the quiet of the church he found a prayer that someone had left behind the pews. In that prayer, God answers him – ‘Just be with me’.

“This was the answer he had been searching for.”

Fr Saniuta pointed out that Kacper’s sudden departure leaves a deep void in the hearts of family and friends who knew him, but he will never be forgotten.

Fr Saniuta said: “Kacper was a young man, full of life, passion, love and faith.

“Although he is no longer with us, he will remain in our hearts forever, let us remember his joy in life, his love for family and friends and his faith in God, which guided him in his search for meaning in life.”

The shock felt by the local community at Kacper’s tragic death has been reflected in the reaction to a Go Fund Me page set up by a family friend to help offset funeral and family expenses.

GIRLFRIEND’S TRIBUTE

More than €15,000 was raised in just a couple of days, a reflection of the respect in which Kacper and his family were held.

That family held eachother tight in the front rows of St Patrick’s Church in Murlog in the disbelief of Kacper’s sudden passing.

Among them was Kacper’s heartbroken girlfriend on whose behalf a touching letter was read out to mourners.

Kacper and Molly met just a few months ago and were already planning their future together.

In a love letter read aloud, Molly said: “I am content knowing I’ve met the love of my life, the man I am going to marry and have our babies with and grow old with.”

In the letter, written prior to Kacper’s tragic death, Molly said that her partner made her the happiest girl alive.

She said: “I promise I will always be with you and if I had my way I would live in your pocket so I could be with you at all times.

“I am so privileged to call you my boyfriend, you always make me feel like the prettiest girl alive. You deserve the world. I love you forever and always.”

A lone violinist led Kacper’s remains out of the church as children released red and white balloons into the freezing January skyline, the frost still thick on local rooftops.

Mr Dudek’s remains were brought to Lakelands Crematorium in Cavan for cremation.

A VERY rare Ferrari that’s one of just 17 that exists in the world is ready to sell for a hefty sum at an upcoming auction.

It’s won numerous awards, including a score of 99.5 points awarded by judges at the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance[/caption]

The eye-catching motor, which features open headlamps and a groundbreaking aerodynamic style, including a tapered nose, delicate fender curves, and a sloping rear fastback, was built in 1961.

It was designed specifically for the American market – embodying the ultimate driving luxury and exceptional performance for the time thanks to its Colombo-designed V-12 engine that produces 340 bhp.

It’s to be sold in exceptional condition, both inside and out, as interior shots show the car’s round dials and gauges, as well as its wooden steering wheel and a black and tan leather cabin.

Renowned auction house RM Sotheby’s, who are dealing with the car’s sale, say it’s undergone a recent cosmetic refresh that cost £80,000.

Widely known across Ferrari circles, this prime example won its class at the 2001 Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance.

It was then treated to a thorough restoration in 2003, when its original Grigio Fumo paint was repainted in Blu Sera.

At the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, it scored an impressive 99.5 points by judges.

Five months later, it won a Platinum Award at the Cavallino Classic.

It will be part of RM Sotheby’s upcoming Miami Auction, at the Biltmore Hotel Coral Gables, from February 27 to 28.

The listing said: “This car is the 7th of 17 series short-wheelbase examples bodied by Pininfarina and was exhibited at the 1961 Paris Salon.

“This model is Ferrari Classiche Red Book certified and additionally documented with factory build sheet copies, Ferrari technical characteristic sheets, manufacturer’s Certificate of Authenticity, history report by Marcel Massini, and restoration invoices.

“It was comprehensively restored in the mid-2000s, with a £80,000 cosmetic refresh conducted in mid-2023.

“It has a stellar record of awards at major concours d’elegance, including numerous FCA Platinum awards, class wins at Amelia Island and Salon Privé, class awards at three different Pebble Beach appearances, and Best of Show at the 2024 Cavallino Classic Middle East.

“The car is also accompanied by toolkit and fitted luggage.

“It is arguably the most finely restored example of the sublime short wheelbase Coupe Aerodinamico.”

It isn’t the only high-priced Ferrari set to sell at the auction either, as a seldom-seen Ferrari F50 boasting a top speed of 202mph has been listed for £5million.

The iconic 1996 supercar was produced to celebrate Ferrari’s 50th anniversary.

This mid-nineties classic forms part of the Ferrari ‘Big Six’, including the 288 GTO, F40, Enzo, LaFerrari and F80.

Images show this super-sleek Ferrari finished in Rosso Corsa over a Nero interior.

And the cabin and seats are leather-trimmed with Rosso red seat bolsters.

A removable Targa top allows for either a Barchetta-style open-top or Berlinetta saloon appearance, depending on your mood.
