A Place in the Sun airs ‘weirdest episode ever’ as house hunter DISAPPEARS midway through show with no explanation

FANS of A Place in the Sun believe they’ve witnessed one of the strangest mysteries in the history of the programme.

The episode was introduced by presenter Laura Hamilton from an idyllic looking Lazio region in Italy.

Laura explained that she was helping couple Mark and Patricia look for somewhere they could live but also potentially run as a B&B business.

The pair had both separately wanted to live in Italy and when they met, they realised they had a shared dream to live there.

Viewers were told the couple were engaged to be married and so didn’t want to waste any time in finding their forever home together.

Taxi driver Mark and dressmaker Patricia had a budget of £330,000 for their search and they were looking forward to running a business in Italy.

Patricia said: “We’d like to have a B&B it would be nice to meet and greet people and serve them because I’ve worked a lot in hospitality. I just like seeing people have fun.”

The search got off to a normal start with Mark talking about his Italian heritage and love of the local food. For Patricia she was looking forward to being a culture vulture.

Mark and Patricia saw a four bed detached house that was a contender followed by a grand seven bed complex, which the couple loved.

It’s at this point thing take a turn. As the show returned from it’s half way ad break the voiceover said that: “Unfortunately Mark is unable to carry on with the search but Patricia is carrying on on her own.”

The search continued with no real mention of the missing Mark or whether he would approve of the properties.

A recap voiceover reminded viewers again that Mark was “Unable to continue with filming” and that Patricia was now house hunting solo.

As Laura summed up the search she said: “Mark can’t be with us for this, but it’s all about you now.”

Patricia loved the final property, a stunning detached villa with a pool and she decided to put a cheeky bid in with the agent, again with no mention of her missing fiancé, but the offer was ultimately turned down.

Viewers were far more interested in what had happened to the couple’s plans and more importantly, to the other half of the couple himself.

One house hunting fan said on social media: “Why are they not even mentioning if Mark would like this property?”

Another added: “I can’t concentrate now as I want to know if Mark has disappeared forever.”

This started a chain of confused viewers with another saying: “I went out the room for a second and he’s gone.”

Dr Eddie Murphy reveals ‘core lesson’ people who suffer with anxiety need to learn for better life

40 DAY Health Challenge coach Dr Eddie Murphy has urged Irish people who suffer with anxiety to tackle their avoidances to help “grow their life”.

Associate Professor at the UCD School of Psychology, Dr Eddie, said it can massively limit a person’s life.

Man in teal plaid shirt.
Dr Eddie said people will become more confident if they tackle their avoidances
Man in teal plaid shirt making a gesture.
He said stepping outside of your comfort zone will help

He said: “In modern psychology, we’re really interested in what keeps problems going, and avoidance will always keep problems going.

“How many times have you avoided things? Is avoidance a pattern in the way you work?

“Avoidance will always keep the problem going. That’s a core lesson, a core point of view from psychology.

“So how do we tackle avoidance? Well, first of all, I’d love if you could videotape yourself on your phone.

“What do you avoid? Do you avoid people? Do you avoid situations?”

The clinical psychologist said people should “step outside” of their comfort zone.

He added: “By putting it into the record, you have it and you know what you’re avoiding, and these are the tools now to tackle that avoidance.

“See, avoidance, it reduces our anxiety when we get into avoidance.

“But it also limits our life.

“So I’m asking you to step outside your comfort zone to tackle your avoidance step by step, and you can put that on video for me because I’d like to hear you saying, ‘When I did this, my world grew bigger, I became more confident.’

“‘I was tackling my avoidances’.

“And I guarantee you this, and I guarantee very little in psychology, but your anxiety will come down when you get into that space and allow yourself into that space that you avoid.

“It will come down, use some deep breathing, nice tools. Say, ‘I can get through this’ in your head, tackle your avoidances and your life will grow.”

Brave 40 Day Health Challenge recruit Olivia Fitzgerald brought show viewers to tears when she opened up on an overlooked issue many people face.

The mum-of-four told Dr Eddie that her biggest challenge so far is facing others.

Olivia admitted: “I definitely think about what other people think about me.”

HOW TO WATCH THE EPISODES

THE latest episodes of the 40 Day Health Challenge are now available at the 40dayhealthchallenge.ie.

Readers can also follow all the action and get the latest updates, meal plans, exercises and mental health tips from Thesun.ie and Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio during the 40 days.

Dr Eddie discussed how the Limerick woman needs to have a kinder voice towards herself.

He explained: “So that’s called mind reading. You are trying to think what the other person’s thinking about me. And that’s an anxiety type behaviour.

“It’s a big feature of social anxiety. Sometimes, people in social situations are always trying to figure out what other people are thinking about them.”

Dr Eddie discussed how these thoughts can be an indicator of social anxiety – and how many people just ignore it.

Social anxiety affects nearly one in eight adults in Ireland, according to Social Anxiety Ireland.

He said: “It’s actually one of the most missed of all the anxiety presentations.

“There’s 13 per cent of people, a huge amount of people with social anxiety.

“There’s very good website called socialanxietyireland.com.

“Some people have very specific social anxiety say like giving a best man speech or something like that.”

Social anxiety was the last anxiety disorder to be discovered, which was only formally recognised in 1979.

It remains the least understood in terms of public and professional understanding.

Olivia admitted she sometimes had thoughts that she “wasn’t worth it” and hopes to “change that mind-set” during the 40 Day Health Challenge.

Dr Eddie said: “It’s so brave of you to put yourself forward for the 40 day health challenge when this is not your comfort zone.

“Everything you do here is outside your comfort zone, and that is total respect from us. Everything you do, all respectfulness.”

The Gunners qualified automatically from the league phase after finishing third behind Liverpool and Barcelona.

But they have been dealt a tough draw with Juventus potentially up next if the Italian side beat Lille.

Alternatively, Arsenal could play the winner of Feyenoord or AC Milan, depending on the draw for the Round of 16.

If they progress an even more difficult quarter-final clash will await.

That is because Arsenal have been picked out in the same side of the draw as Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

They could face any of that trio or one of Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid or Celtic.

Liverpool or Barcelona could come next in the semi-final, so the Gunners face a massive challenge to get to Munich.

City have been tasked with the same nightmare run – only they face an game extra against Real Madrid in the play-off, with both juggernauts failing to finish in the top eight.

By contrast Liverpool have an easier set of fixtures up until the semi-final, with PSG and Borussia Dortmund among the difficult teams they could potentially face.

Who is TikTok star Mat Armstrong? Car enthusiast who restored Marcus Rashford’s wrecked Rolls-Royce

MAT Armstrong has built up an enormous following thanks to his impressive videos showing the arduous step-by-step process of restoring motor vehicles.

He’s carved out a career for himself on social media, helping him add to his large car collection. Here’s everything we know about Mat.

Who is TikTok star Mat Armstrong?

Mat Armstrong from Leicester rose to fame through his social media profiles.

He’s built up a following of 51k on his TikTok page @bmxmatarmstrong.

Meanwhile over on Instagram, Mat has a huge 1.1million followers, with his bio stating “I ride bikes & film stuff on cars”.

He is also active on YouTube, where he boasts a whopping 4.1million subscribers.

After leaving school, Mat became a professional BMX rider, complete with numerous sponsors.

Even so, he ended up working at Indian restaurant Spice 45 in the evenings due to the low pay.

During the day he used the restaurant’s car park to work on his pal’s cars, teaching himself how to fix them.

From there, Mat went to work at a garage where he was put in charge of social media, posting videos of himself with cars online.

Through working during the day at the garage and in the evenings at the restaurant, Mat managed to save enough to buy his first home at the age of 21.

After renovating and refinancing, he rented the property out and was able to buy a second property with his girlfriend Hannah, who he met through BMXing.

He did the same again and bought a third property.

What sort of content does he create?

Mat posts videos and photos related to his car renovations on his social media.

His TikTok is full of videos where Mat purchases rundown cars that may have been involved in some sort of crash.

However, he is able to see the potential in the messed up cars and does them up to make a profit.

He also keeps his followers updated with what else he has been up to, including a visit to Silverstone to watch Formula 1 in July 2024.

Nearly 1M of you guys following my journey on here and what a journey it’s been couldn’t be more grateful

On May 27, 2024, Mat shared a sweet post where he thanked his Instagram fans for almost a million followers.

Along side a photo of some of his super cars, he said: “Nearly 1M of you guys following my journey on here and what a journey it’s been couldn’t be more grateful.”

When did he buy Marcus Rashford’s car?

Mat bought Premier League football Marcus Rashford’s car in early 2024.

The purchase came after Rashford crashed the car in September 2023 and it was written off.

Fortunately neither Rashford or the other driver were injured in the crash, which also saw the car knock over a traffic pole.

Before becoming a social media star Mat was a pro BMX rider and also worked in an Indian restaurant

The accident caused a lot of damage to the left side of the vehicle so it was listed for auction.

Mat was contacted by the England international’s team to help restore the vehicle.

They even provided him with a secret code to start the car as well as a spare key.

A message from Rashford’s team said: “Hi, I deal with all of the cars from Marcus, I believe we still have a few bits from the car you might need.

“We might have the v5 spare key and a couple more bits from when the car got recovered.

“We also have the ghost code and tracker information if you want us to get them to you?”

Mat bought the vehicle for £185,000, after Marcus paid £700,000 for the custom car.

The car had less than 1,000 miles on the clock and Mat bought another £90,000 Rolls-Royce to help the restoration.

Mat shared a video where he restored the car and revealed the overall cost of the project was £324,000.

What other cars has he restored for his channel?

Mat’s career restoring written-off cars began when his girlfriend Hannah was involved in an accident.

Mat began restoring the smashed Audi TT – and documented his progress on his YouTube channel.

Damaged gray Rolls-Royce Wraith.
Rashford’s Rolls Royce was badly damaged on the left side

During the process he fell in love with rebuilding cars and filming the work.

He then bought an Audi S5 and restored that, garnering more fans online.

He then posted numerous videos restoring cars on his social media since then, all while working full time at the garage.

However, when the pandemic forced the UK into lockdown, Mat was furloughed and with time on his hands bought a crash damaged Bentley Continental GT – and rebuilt it.

And he soon started earning more money from the videos then in his day job.

After discovering his true passion, he took a risk and quit his job to work full-time filming and editing videos of his car renovations.

Most common illegal driving activities

Here's a list of reckless driving behaviour and the fines and penalties you risk getting from it.

  • Using phone while driving
A cheeky glance at a phone screen will result in six penalty points on your licence and a £200 fine.
New drivers might lose their licence if caught doing so within two years of obtaining it.
  • Speeding
Lovers of fast and furious will end up with a minimum of three points and a £100 fine.
  • Running a red light
This offence will incur three points and £100 fine.
  • Middle lane hogging
It constitutes careless driving and police will hand you a £100 fine with three penalty points.
  • Undertaking
This could possibly result in three points on your licence and a £100 fine.

His girlfriend eventually joined him in the business.

He made a £15k profit doing up an Audi RS6 which had a severely damaged front and a smashed windscreen.

The car usually retailed for £46,000 but he paid £20,000 at auction.

After forking out another £6,789 to restore it, Mat made a profit of £15,211.

Mat’s Instagram showcases several car renovations he has done.

He posted in May 2024 that he had done up a Porsche GT3 which he took from smashed up to painting it fuschia.

Mat also shared a before and after post of a BMW M4 which he completely transformed.

He often raffles off his rebuilt cars to his followers, which he says is his favourite part of the job.

Harry’s secret message to King Charles – ‘bruised’ Prince wants UK reconciliation

PRINCE Harry will be heading to court in April to fight for his family’s protection when in the UK – and he could be sending a secret message to King Charles in the process.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal reporter Bronte Coy claimed that the Duke of Sussex, 40, may wish to have a UK reconciliation.

GB News Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker claims the Duke of Sussex could be sending a message to King Charles to intervene with his court case[/caption]

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and now live in California with Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

Bronte shared: “A few things struck me about this. Firstly, it’s been five years since they left. “When they left, they left with such a passionate blaze of glory, they were so disheartened and bruised by the situation that they’d had back here.

“And I think that with all these things, once the dust settles and the emotion gets taken out of it a little bit, the reality is that he loves his home country.”

The royal reporter added: “A lot of things have changed in the last five years, and I think it’s entirely possible that, with some reflection, there’s a big part of him that’s wondering if there’s a way to sort of bring the UK back into the fold of his life.”

Bronte claimed that Harry’s love of the UK was evident in his Spare memoir, and he also may be sad that his children are growing up 5,000 miles away from his home country.

She shared how Archie and Lilibet “haven’t spent time getting to know their roots, which includes the Spencer family.”

Prince Harry will appear in court to appeal a High Court judgement that upholds a Home Office decision to downgrade his security, following him no longer being a senior working royal.

HELLO! claimed that a friend of Prince Harry’s said: “The goal for Prince Harry is simple.

“He wants to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country and so he can help support his patronages and their important work.”

By sticking to his guns with the court case, the Duke of Sussex could be sending a message to King Charles, according to GB News Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker, who also appeared on Royal Exclusive.

He shared: “Well, I think it’s a combination, probably, of the British public and King Charles, his father.

“The king has only met Princess Lilibet once during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

“There are reports, which hadn’t been confirmed or verified, that suggest that Prince Harry is essentially trying to lobby his father to intervene in his court case he’s got going against the home office.

“But of course, the king is not going to do that, because he cannot be seen to be involved in any court cases in the United Kingdom

“So in April this year, we’re expecting Prince Harry’s appeal to be heard.

“The Home office downgraded his security in 2020 when he stood back as a member of the royal family, and he lost that case, but he’s appealing.

A lot of things have changed in the last five years, and I think it’s entirely possible that, with some reflection, there’s a big part of him [Prince Harry] that’s wondering if there’s a way to sort of bring the UK back into the fold of his life

Bronte CoyRoyal reporter

“What he told ITV last year was that he will not bring Meghan or his two children to the UK, because he feels he can’t keep them safe without the level he used to have police protection he used to have.”

This follows Harry and Meghan “donating toys & kids’ clothing to LA victims” after mansions burned to the ground in wildfires in the region this month.

Why did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step back as senior working royals?

PRINCE Harry has always wanted out of the Royal Family and the repercussions will be felt for years, an expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex has lived in California with his wife Meghan Markle since 2020 after they dramatically quit their jobs as working royals and moved across the pond.

Katie Nicholl, who is Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that Megxit did not come as a surprise to her.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson, the commentator explained: “Anyone who knows Harry is aware he’s always wanted a way out of the Royal Family.

“He’s said multiple times on the record that he wished he’d never been born a prince.

“I think he really is living the life he wants to now. It’s very, very sad that it’s played out the way it has.”

In a statement made on the Sussexes’ Instagram account as they stepped back in 2020, the pair wrote: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”
