Falling asleep on Spain holiday left me disfigured by mystery condition – strangers stare and docs are baffled

A WOMAN with a mystery condition that causes her nose to go red – with strangers constantly asking if she’s sick – says doctors have no idea why it happens.

Jessica McGirr, from Donegal, first spotted the colour change five years ago when she was sunburnt during a holiday in Tenerife.

Jessica McGirr, who hails from Ireland, first spotted the colour change five years ago when she was sunburnt during a holiday in Tenerife. But while the rest of her skin recovered, her nose did not. She says the bizarre situation is destroying her self-confidence and has seriously impacted her life with the 24-year-old never leaving the house without makeup and often suffering unwanted comments. ¿The redness has ruined my self-confidence and I now wear makeup every day to hide it,¿ Jessica, who currently lives in New York, US, told NeedToKnow. ¿I wouldn¿t go out in public with my red nose as I get many comments from strangers asking me what¿s wrong with my nose or asking if I am sick. ¿Strangers are very open to questioning me about my nose and pointing it out, but I don¿t think if it was a birthmark I would get as many comments about it. ¿No diagnosis has been made which is very frustrating because I wish I knew why this happened and if there could be a cure.¿ Jessica was on a boat trip on the Spanish island when she nodded off under the blazing sun without any sunscreen on. She spent around four hours exposed to strong UV rays and when she woke up, she had a bright red nose. The 30-year-old said the initial burn took about a week to go down. But two weeks later, her nose was still red and sore. It later became rough, inflamed and even started bleeding and scabbing. Now more than five years later, Jessica¿s nose is still red. She said: ¿The initial blistering took about a week to go away but after two weeks, when my nose was still red, I got concerned. ¿The skin on my nose was very textured and would often bleed and scab. ¿For the first three years after the burn, my nose was very inflamed. ¿It is more calm at the moment. ¿It¿s still very red but the texture is smoother.¿ Jessica has seen three different doctors about her nose. She said: ¿I was prescribed a few different creams at first, then I was prescribed medication for acne but neither of those worked. ¿I was recommended to go to a skin clinic and get laser, so I got four sessions of intense pulsed light therapy but saw no results. ¿I¿ve had visual skin evaluations and blood tests but no doctor ever gave me a diagnosis. ¿They denied it being rosacea due to it only being on my nose and it staying consistently red.¿ Jessica claims she hasn¿t been treated seriously and some doctors have simply told her to avoid spicy foods. She said: ¿I feel very let down by the healthcare system at home as no doctor ever seemed to care or wanted to refer me to a specialist. ¿I don¿t do any treatments or use any creams at the moment and I¿ve never noticed an improvement with treatment. ¿I now wear factor 50 sunscreen every day.¿ Jessica refuses to go outside without makeup and uses heavy concealer to cover the redness. She added: ¿I would love to seek further help. ¿However, to me, it feels like I am throwing money away as you have to pay so much for skin consultations just for them to not be able to help you. ¿If I knew a treatment would work, I would love to try it.¿ ENDS EDITOR'S NOTE: Video Usage Licence: (EXCLUSIVE) We have obtained an exclusive licence from the copyright holder. The exciting DJ, from Pembrokeshire, Wales, was in Zante with his friends ahead of a major club gig in the holiday hotspot.

His friend escaped the crash with minor injuries but Kai was rushed to hospital.

Doctors found a bleed on the brain and he was placed in an induced coma.

Kai’s devastated girlfriend Kya Gillane-Heywood has described the moment she saw her boyfriend in the hospital bed as “horrible”.

She told the Mirror: “It is horrible.

“It is weird because we are all still in shock so it doesn’t feel real but at the same time it is just crazy because it is so real if that makes any sense?

“I don’t know how to describe it.”

Coco Gauff’s opponent is glamorous music star and model, 25, who must overcome allergy to GRASS to cause Wimbledon shock

COCO GAUFF is set to open her Wimbledon 2025 campaign against Ukrainian star Dayana Yastremska.

The American is flying high following her recent Roland Garros triumph, but may not have it all her own way on Centre Court this afternoon.

Yastremska, 25, is No42 in the rankings – but that barely scratches the surface of her incredible story.

The Odesa-born ace burst onto the scene as a teenager, and has built a huge 216,000-strong Instagram following.

Having recently reached the Nottingham final, Yastremska has shown a keen ability to play well on grass… despite being allergic to the green stuff!

During her Nottingham run, the 5ft 7in star said: “I really love playing on grass, even though I think I have a bit of an allergy to grass!

“I’m very excited, and I was proud of myself. In general everything worked pretty well.”

Yastremska, who has plenty of passions off court, has had to contend with the devastating effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In February 2022, the tennis star was forced to flee her home alongside her younger sister in the wake of the invasion.

Having been as high as No21 in the world, Yastremska had been attempting to rebuild her ranking at the time following a doping scare.

Wimbledon 2025 LIVE – follow all the latest scores and updates from a thrilling fortnight at SW19

In 2021 she was provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance – but six months later she was allowed to play again after an independent tribunal ruled that there had been a contamination.

As she fled war, Yastremska posted an emotional picture of herself alongside sister Ivanna, captioning it: “After spending two nights in the underground parking, my parents made a decision at any cost to send me and my little sister out of Ukraine.

“Mom, Dad, we love you very much, take care of yourself!!! I love you my country! Ukrainians take care of your lives.”

Yastremska has since served as an inspiration on tour, defying the immense difficulties back home to rebuild her career.

Last year she reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open as a qualifier, while this year she has reached finals in Linz and Nottingham.

Off court, Yastremska keeps herself busy with plenty of hobbies.

The Yonex athlete has posted glamorous modelling shots on Instagram, while she also released two singles in 2020.

Entitled Thousands of Me and Favourite Track, Yastremska used her time off during the Covid-19 pandemic to channel her passion for music.

Yastremska also loves to travel, a handy trait for a player on the WTA Tour.

She has posted several pictures of herself at various tourist hot-spots, including Rome’s Trevi Fountain, Miami Zoo and Monte Carlo.

Yastremska and Gauff have so far met three times, with the reigning Roland Garros champion having won each match.

The Ukrainian did win a 6-0 set against the American in Madrid earlier this year, however, with Gauff eventually coming back to win a war of attrition on her way to the final.

‘I’m not afraid’: Heartbreaking final text of tragic backpacker, 26, who perished in volcano crater after plunge on hike

TRAGIC backpacker Juliana Marins told her family “I’m not afraid” in a final text before her death on an Indonesian volcano.

The 26-year-old’s mum, Estela Marins, revealed it was written at the start of her daughter’s doomed Southeast Asia trip.

Estela revealed her daughter’s last message to Brazilian media

In a message shown to Brazilian programme Fantastico, Juliana said: “Mami, I love you so much. I was heartbroken when we said goodbye.

“In fact, that’s the only thing that worries me: letting you, papi or my sister be disappointed. Other than that, I’m not afraid of much, much less trouble.

“I was raised by a woman who can solve any problem and who is not afraid to take the plunge and go after her dreams. I am like that too. I have different desires and dreams.

“I love you all very much! And I will always be grateful for all the support, care and affection. That is what makes me not afraid.”

Juliana died after falling more than 1,600 feet from a cliff on a hike up Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia, on June 21.

Her body was only recovered three days later, after a complex and delayed rescue operation.

New autopsy ordered

Her body is due to arrive in Brazil today, Globo reports.

There, a second autopsy will be carried out to determine whether she could have survived the fall with timely help.

The request for the new examination was made by the Public Defender’s Office and fast-tracked by President Lula da Silva.

Authorities say the autopsy must be done within six hours of her return to preserve evidence.

The first autopsy, conducted in Bali, found that she died from trauma within 20 minutes – but drone footage and witness accounts have cast doubt on that timeline.

‘Left behind’ on the trail

Juliana, from Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, had been hiking with six tourists and two local guides when she became exhausted and stopped to rest.

The publicist and dancer’s family has since blasted the “botched” rescue mission and claimed her tour guide abandoned her.

“Juliana was in this group, but she got very tired and asked to stop for a while. They kept going, and the guide didn’t stay with her,” said her sister, Mariana Marins.

Guide Ali Musthofa claimed he was only “three minutes” ahead and returned when Juliana didn’t show up — only to find she had fallen.

“I saw the light of a flashlight on a ravine about 150 meters deep and heard Juliana’s voice calling for help,” he said.

Rescue drones later spotted the Brazilian alive on the cliff, but poor weather and lack of equipment delayed efforts to reach her.

She was officially confirmed dead on June 24, and her family has accused Indonesian authorities of failing to provide assistance.

Initial reports claimed rescuers had reached Juliana and provided food and water. The Brazilian embassy repeated this — but it turned out to be false.

“The information we have is that so far they have not been able to reach her because the ropes were not long enough, in addition to the low visibility,” Mariana said at the time.

The ambassador later admitted he had passed on inaccurate reports from Indonesian officials.

On Monday, June 30, things weren’t just heating up across the UK with the scorching summer heatwave — they were reaching unbearable temperatures on Love Island due to the sauciest heart rate challenge of all time.

And then during Tuesday’s episode, things got even hotter when two more bombshells exploding into the villa.

Relaxing by the Firepit, Shakira receives a text letting her and Toni know a new boy bombshell is waiting to whisk them both away on a first date.

As they do a little celebration dance, Shakira exclaims: “Talk about perfect timing!”

Then Dejon also gets a text saying a brand-new female Bombshell is getting ready to introduce herself to him and Conor.

After they all dress up in their finest outfits, they head to a stunning location with sea views to get to know the new bombshells over a glass of bubbly or two.

Here’s everything we know about the new boy bombshell — Ryan Bannister.

Who is Ryan Bannister?

Ryan Bannister is a 27-year-old gym hunk who’s primed to star in the Love Island villa as a bombshell.

He’s a Post Office retail support worker from Chesterfield.

His Instagram is packed with workout videos and fitness tips, making sure he’s at his beach-body best for his stint on Love Island 2025.

There are also an array of happy holiday snaps from locations including Puerto Banús, Marbella — which he captioned “certainly didn’t disappoint”.

His handle is @ryanbanners and as of July 1, 2025, he already has over 2k followers — a number that’s sure to shoot up during his time on Love Island.

Although he finds it “hard to initially commit”, Ryan is very specific about what he wants in his perfect partner.

He told ITV: “A tanned brunette with a good body, bubbly personality, a joy to be around.

The Islanders have been crying out for some bombshells with so many of them currently single… The villa is a bombshells paradise right now and it’s everything to play for

“They’ve got to be funny and someone I just love spending time with. I also like a bit of a fiery side.

Ryan added: “A red flag would be someone who jumps from relationship to relationship and isn’t happy on their own.

“A green flag is when people have good things to say about you, having a good family and set of friends.”

While his biggest ick is: “Someone who is rude to a waiter, I hate it!”

Ryan’s serious about finding a girl he can “bring home to his parents”, and already has his eye THREE of the girls — Shakira, Toni and Emily.

A source told us: “The Islanders have been crying out for some bombshells with so many of them currently single.

“It’s only really Meg and Dejon who are in any way settled which is bonkers at this stage of the game.

“The villa is a bombshells paradise right now and it’s everything to play for.”

Ryan arrived with a stunning girl bombshell and Irish content creator named Bilikis Azeez.

But she has already turned heads and won’t be afraid of making her mark.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

‘League of Ireland is calling’ – Watch Roy Keane get in touch with Cork City roots by starring in hilarious ad

ROY Keane got decked out in Cork City gear while starring in an amusing ad urging people to get out and attend League of Ireland fixtures.

While it was Cobh Ramblers that Keane started his legendary career with rather than Cork’s other team, he’s become a regular enough visitor to Turners Cross whenever he’s home.

But that smile is wiped away when a steward informs him it’s a sell-out[/caption]

He then has to get creative by trying to get in via the adjoining pub[/caption]

And even cites his lack of height as a reason he ought to be let through to the front[/caption]

Now, in a video created by Rockshore, the Manchester United icon shows his comedic chops as he tries his best to attend a City match despite being turned away at the gate.

The script even includes a joke about his height as he pleads with two other fans to let him get in front for a better view since he’s short enough that he won’t obscure their view.

The advert is suitably aided by the musical accompaniment of The Frank and Walters’ hit song “After All” which is a beloved tune on Leeside.

Rockshore are invested in the success of the League of Ireland as the league’s official beer sponsor.

So it all adds that their video implores casual Irish football fans to make the effort to attend a match in person instead of solely consuming the beautiful game through their televisions.

It’s captioned: “Time to show up. League of Ireland is calling.”

In the case of Ger Nash’s team in particular, they could do with all of the help they can get.

Despite him taking over from Tim Clancy in May, their results and performances have arguably gotten worse as they sit rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division with just 15 points from 22 games.

Amazingly, their last outing was their first clean sheet of the campaign as they dug out a point in a scoreless draw at home to St Pat’s.

It proved another acrimonious night at Turner’s Cross, but Bohemians lifted the mood by drawing late with Sligo Rovers.

Bottom of the table, the Leesiders are four — rather than six — points adrift of Rovers.

If it proves to be Tein Troost’s final game as City keeper, he at least signed off with a first shut-out and saved from Brandon Kavanagh late on.

City’s winless streak extended to 11 games while Saints have not won in their last five as they remain sixth. Stephen Kenny’s men have netted just once in that stretch.

Nash called for unity in his programme notes after the supporter unrest that mired their Drogheda United draw.

But play was paused midway through the first half as objects were thrown from the Shed End amid a plume of black smoke.

Fans chanted in opposition to the club ownership as a banner was unfurled that read, ‘Sold the dream, living a nightmare’.
