Tragic mum-of-four, 37, who ‘did anything to protect those she loved’ found dead at her ill child’s bedside in hospital
A MUM-OF-FOUR was tragically found dead at her ill child’s bedside in hospital.
Staff came across Lindsey Owen’s lifeless body on a fold-up bed last May.
She had been sleeping in a private room during a routine check on her poorly child at the Royal Stoke University hospital.
Lindsey, who lived in Bold Street, Northwood, had been prescribed methadone in an attempt to come off drugs, an inquest heard.
However CCTV showed Lindsey leaving the hospital the day before she died and its suspected she took drugs while away from the ward.
Coroner Lindsey Tonks said Lindsey had been using drugs from a young age.
The toxicology report confirmed prescribed medication and other controlled drugs and were present in her system.
Forensic pathologist Brett Lockyer said: “I gave the cause of death as mixed-drug intoxication.
“The drugs which have contributed to her death included a mixture of diamorphine or heroin, methadone, gabapentin, mirtazapine, codeine, and diazepam.
“All of those drugs together, they would have acted together in order to cause her death by suppressing her respiratory system and causing her to go into a deep sleep.
“Lindsey would not have known anything about what was happening to her.
“She would have just wandered off into a very deep sleep and then passed away while she was sleeping.”
A fundraiser has been set up in Lindsey’s memory by her sister, Claudia who has shared a heartfelt tribute for the mum-of-four.
Claudia wrote: “Lindsey would have done anything to protect the people she loved.
“She would have given her last penny to anyone in need.
“She was truly a kind person who didn’t deserve to leave the world this soon.”

‘I need to fight for my family’, cries Kildare dad-of-two in ‘devastating’ rare cancer diagnosis plea
A DAD-of-two has to live long enough to see both of his sons grow as he pleads for vital funds after shock cancer diagnosis.
Daniel Mooney, 37, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours in May 2024, in which only 30 cases are reported worldwide each year.
The family had recently started their new chapter by moving into their forever home in the countryside of Kildare before their lives were turned upside down by Daniel’s devastating diagnosis.
Despite the shocking diagnosis, Daniel stated that his “focus has never wavered”.
He said: “I need to fight for my family, especially my boys. I want to be there to watch them grow, to guide them, and to create memories that will last a lifetime.
“The thought of them not remembering me is unbearable. I want to live for them!”
Since the diagnosis, he has endured nine gruelling rounds of chemotherapy, and the results have been nothing short of “miraculous”.
Daniel revealed that the largest tumour had shrunk from 25cm to 8.4cm, and the cancer had stayed contained within his abdomen.
However, the treatment is expensive, and his body is currently exhausted from his battles, including severe bone marrow suppression and two life-threatening bouts of sepsis.
He is expected to undergo a major surgery to remove the known cancer sites on February 17, it will not be a curative procedure but will give him more time.
Daniel added: “Beyond this, I need further specialised and aggressive treatment, which could offer me a better chance of keeping the disease at bay.
“The Cleveland Clinic in the USA is a world leader in treating DSRCT.
“Doctors Pete Anderson, Dan Joyce, and Erin Murphy have treated over 100 cases and are pioneering cutting-edge treatment protocols for this rare disease including an immunotherapy vaccine that could change everything for me.
“This team offers me the best chance to survive and return home to my family. But the costs are staggering.”
GOFUNDME FUND PLEA
Launching the GoFundMe campaign, the family is raising funds to cover the “overwhelming costs of treatment”, including medical care, travel-related expenses and essential diagnostic procedures like DNA sequencing.
This will help the family cover the total cost of the medical treatment, everyday living bills and childcare, preventing an “immense financial burden”.
However, Daniel as “time is critical”, the window between surgery and requiring follow-up treatment is small and “every day counts” for his survival and achieving his goal.
The campaign was launched with the goal of €211,600 on January 17.
After half a month of the campaign being live, it has raised over €54,000 – a quarter of the goal succeeded.
People have been sharing and doing their best to help the family during difficult times.
Two generous people have donated €3,000, while a handful donated €1,000 to help support his battle with cancer.
You can donate online to Daniel Mooney’s GoFundMe campaign.

Celebs Go Dating in huge shake-up as hit reality series brings back ‘missing’ part of show after fan backlash
CELEBS Go Dating is set to return with a huge shake-up to the hit reality series.
E4 bosses are bringing back overseas trips after they were axed over the past few years because of budget reasons.

After fan backlash, celebs will be now be sent on holiday for the finale week – and have the chance to take their potential love interest.
A source told The Sun: “Bosses really want to pull out all the stops for the upcoming series and the overseas trips had been really missed.
“It was a cost-saving thing in recent years but producers decided the show was missing the glamour of an exotic jaunt so they decided to bring it back for this year.
“The cast are thrilled and can’t wait to pack their bags.”
Celebs Go Dating follows a group of single stars as they look for love, with a bit of help from dating experts Anna Williamson and Paul Brunson and Doctor Tara Suwinyattichaiporn.
Last year, Love Island All Stars‘ Chris Taylor and Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb were among the celebs who took part last year.
They were told not to expect the traditional overseas cast trip thanks to budget cuts.
Instead, the finale was a pool party filmed in the UK.
Travelling abroad had been a staple of the show alongside smaller trips throughout the season until 2022.
Before that, Celebs Go Dating was forced to totally revamp its show amid Covid restrictions.
The Mansion series saw stars live together in a social support bubble.
