‘Huge shock’ – Tributes paid to All-Ireland sheep shearing champion who died in fatal farming accident in Kerry
TRIBUTES have been paid to an All-Ireland sheep shearing champion who was killed in a farming accident in Co Kerry.
Breda Lynch, 64, from Bonane, Kenmare, Co Kerry lost her life following a fatal farm accident in the county on Tuesday.
The fatal work-place accident occurred in Bonane on June 17, at around 5pm.
Breda Lynch was an All-Ireland sheep shearing champion on several occasions.
Speaking at an event in 2019 about her career she said she wasn’t sure how many All-Irelands she had won.
Breda said: “I definitely have 12 but it could be 14.”
She added: “I didn’t get a trophy every year I won so I don’t actually know how many I have won.
“I won the All-Ireland Ladies Championship on Sunday with the electric shears, and I had only gone up as a spectator.
“I’ve been ill for a few years, and at one point I thought I’d never compete again. It was a spur of the moment thing. I also got a certificate for ‘Outstanding Service to the Sheep-Shearing Industry’.”
Paying tribute local Independent Councillor Dan McCarthy, who is also the manager of Kenmare Mart, said: “There is huge shock in the area at the passing Breda. She was very well-known in this area and beyond.”
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochána confirmed they attended the accident and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
They said: “Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a work-related incident that occurred in Bonane, Kenmare, Co. Kerry on Tuesday June 17, 2025 at approximately 5pm.”
Gardai said an examination of the scene was conducted.
The Coroner for Kerry has been notified and a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified and are investigating the matter.
The HSA have also confirmed an investigation is underway.
No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

A huge waterpark in Poland is going through a huge redevelopment, including the addition of a four-star hotel.
Suntago Water World is a one-of-a-kind tropical attraction with 18 swimming pools, 35 slides and it’s getting even bigger.
Suntago Water World is so huge it can host 15,000 visitors per day and it’s the largest waterpark on the continent.
Soon, it will be able to accommodate more guests staying over as it announces plans for the future, including constructing a four-star hotel
Idan Greidinger, CEO of Park of Poland told Blooloop: “Suntago Water World will be the best place to spend free time with friends and family, seven days a week, all year round.
“It will attract visitors not only from all over Poland, but also from other European countries.”
You can currently stay at Suntago in their accommodation called the ‘village’.
On-site are 92 fully equipped bungalows ranging from four-person to eight-person.
For guests staying over there are shops, a communal bonfire and grill area, children’s playground, bike rental and a shuttle bus to the waterpark.
The CEO also revealed that the 35 slides will be upgraded too: “We are working on a new version of the slide zone.
“I can only reveal that we will conquer the magical world to which we invite our guests who are looking for adrenaline and good fun.”
The area is known for its tropical landscape and keeps at an average of 32C.
The tropical waterpark is a hit with visitors, one wrote: “Its very hot and a lots of tropical plants. Very nice and beautiful place.”
Another added: “Amazing place pure fun, the best spa and Sauna in Poland.”
Suntago Water World also opened the new family-friendly Crocodile Island area earlier this year.
Crocodile Island forms a new part of Jamango and has four sections, Boat, Beach, Rainforest and Ruins.
Kids will be able to play games, make the most of the climbing structures and even build their own island.
Set across 75,000sqm, there are three other zones to explore – Jamango, Relax Suntago, and Saunaria.
For any families with young children, head to Jamango which is jungle themed with plenty of water slides, a lazy river and baby pools.
This is where the water slides are found, as well as a 130m lazy river and baby pools.
Relax Suntago is the adults only area with guests having to be 16 or over.
And it’s truly relaxing with hot tubs, thermal pools, Sulphur pools and ones of brine too.
In Saunaria, there are 15 saunas and steam rooms and hot tub pools.
The attraction is about an hour’s drive away from Warsaw.
The massive European waterpark with 14 themed lands is opening a new outdoor pool and a 150-seat swim-up bar.
And the huge waterpark two hours from the UK is super affordable – with 12 slides, lazy river and pool bars.

PEP GUARDIOLA was spotted with his youngest daughter Valentina ahead of Manchester City’s Club World Cup opener.
The club got off to the perfect start by beating Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca 2-0 yesterday.
Guardiola, 54, was in a relaxed mood ahead of the game at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The manager relaxed in the dugout while his players took a stroll onto the pitch after arriving at the stadium.
He was joined by daughter Valentina, 17, and they were sat next to each other chatting.
It led to fans joking that she was a “new member of the coaching staff”.
Valentina is the youngest of Guardiola’s three kids with now estranged wife Cristina Serra.
Their eldest Maria, 24, is a model and influencer with over 100,000 followers on Instagram.
Son Marius, 22, has a number of businesses registered in his name but prefers to keep a low profile.
The Sun exclusively revealed in February that Guardiola had begun divorce proceedings with wife Cristina.

FUMING Love Island fans have threatened to call Ofcom after Malisha Jordan was brutally dumped last night.
Earlier this week Love Island bombshell Harrison Solomon arrived and took Malisha and Toni Laites on separate dates.
Harrison had to pick who he would bring back to the villa, with the other girl being dumped immediately.
And Malisha didn’t even get to say goodbye, as Harrison was seen last night returning with Toni.
Fans rushed to social media to hit out at the cruel exit, with one writing: “Y’all need to go ahead and complain to ofcom for how they treating Malisha bc this crazy.”
Another said: “Malisha leaving was cruel and a waste of her time.

LOCALS are celebrating the rebuilding of their town high street after it was dubbed “soulless” and in desperate need of change.
In 1947, East Kilbride held the title of Scotland’s first ever ‘new town’, however, less than 80 years later, it is being knocked down.
Located just south of Glasgow, the proposals for the town centre could see more than a third of the town demolished.
This would make way for an impressive new supermarket measuring 40,000 feet, a hotel and a public square.
Local, Danny Fitzpatrick, 33, told the Metro: “The town has had some really tough times in the last two decades, but I hope and believe there is a kind of renaissance on the horizon.”
Danny was born and raised in the town and feels hopeful about the South Lanarkshire Council’s new proposals.
As he reflected on growing up in the area, he explained that the town used to be an “epicentre.”
But added: “It isn’t a shadow of what it used to be.”
In 1930, East Kilbride was home to just 900 residents.
But thanks to being selected as one of the five new towns in Scotland to serve as the solution to the post-war housing shortage, over the span of a few decades the town completely transformed.
Now with a population of roughly 75,000 the post-war scheme equipped the once small village with council offices, a police station, and even Scotland’s first Olympic size swimming pool.
It has even been affectionately nicknamed “Polo Mint City,” due to its extensive roundabout system.
However, over the last 20 years, East Kilbride has been suffering, with many businesses closing and locals labelling the town centre “grim.”
Among those to pack up and leave the area were the Motorola factory in 2009, Rolls-Royce in 2015, and the main shopping centre in 2022.
But Danny remains optimistic, saying: “The Rolls-Royce days may be over, but I think the future is good for EK.”
The council plans to spend a staggering £62,200,000 on the project, in a bid to make use of the more than 500,000 square feet of empty space across East Kilbride.
Threesixty Architecture, the company fronting these new plans, argue that the last decade has seen towns across the UK suffer.
Worsened even further by Covid, they claim that retail is on the decline, leaving areas like East Kilbride to suffer.
The document reads: “The master plan is the opportunity for the town to rediscover its identity and purpose.”
The Sun has approached South Lanarkshire Council and Threesixty Architecture for comment.

Lord Henry Mount Charles of Slane Castle dies at 74 after ‘valiant’ cancer battle as ‘heartbroken’ family pay tribute
LORD Henry Mount Charles has passed away at the age of 74 his family have confirmed today.
He passed away “peacefully” yesterday after a battle with cancer.
Lord Henry was well known as the custodian of Slane Castle in Co Meath.
Over the years he has facilitated several concerts at the venue which was his ancestral home.
Legends such as U2, Rolling Stones, Brue Springsteen, Queen and Madonna have performed at the site.
Harry Styles and even Oasis have also performed at the outdoor venue.
Lord Henry took over the venue in 1976 when he was just 25 years old.
In a public statement his family said the well known figure in the music and events scene fought a “valiant battle with cancer”.
They said: “It is with profound sadness that the family of Lord Henry Mount Charles, The Marquess Conyngham announce his peaceful passing in the late hours of June 18th following a long and valiant battle with cancer.
“A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and custodian of Slane Castle, Lord Henry’s courage, and unwavering spirit inspired all who knew him.”
Rochdale grooming gang fiends who abused girls as young as 12 still living in UK as Pakistan REFUSES to take them back
TWO prolific Rochdale grooming fiends are still living in the UK – because Pakistan refuses to take them back.
Qari Abdul Rauf and Adil Khan were part of a nine-strong gang of Asian men convicted of sex offences against vulnerable girls in 2012.
Up to 47 girls as young as 12 were plied with alcohol and drugs and gang-raped across Rochdale during a two-year reign of terror.
Then-Home Secretary Theresa May ordered the pair to be sent back to Pakistan in 2014 as it would as it would be “conducive to the public good”.
But ten years later, Rauf and Khan still remain in Rochdale where their victims are forced to live alongside them.
It has now emerged Pakistan is refusing to take the predators back, The Telegraph reports.
An official claimed it would be “extremely difficult” to take back the dangerous criminals.
The battle has also been further complicated by Rauf and Khan renouncing their Pakistani citizenship.
After they both exploited a loophole by ripping up their passports, they became “stateless”, which can block a deportation.
Rauf and fellow gang leader Khan, who got a 13-year-old girl pregnant, lost a lengthy fight in 2018 against deportation alongside a third member of the gang, Abdul Aziz.
They subsequently launched another bid – insisting the order breaches their human rights as they both have wives and children in the UK.
Their appeals were rejected but both have remained in Britain ever since.
Sources for the Interior Ministry have said “progress” could be made if the UK were to take part in talks.
They also suggested returning direct flights to the UK by its national airline PIA, which were suspended for safety reasons, could help.
But UK officials said this suggestion had not been raised in discussions.
The subject of grooming gangs has been thrust back into the spotlight this week following a bombshell report by Baroness Casey.
The scathing review found councils, police and the Home Office repeatedly “shied away” from dealing with uncomfortable questions on the ethnicity of rapists who targeted young girls.
Rauf and Khan were ringleaders of a prolific grooming gang in Rochdale, which has been plagued by sexual exploitation.
Khan got a 13-year-old girl pregnant and trafficked another girl, 15, to others – using violence when she complained.
He was sentenced to eight years in 2012 and released on licence four years later.
Dad-of-five Rauf trafficked a 15-year-old girl and raped her in a secluded area before taking her to a flat in Rochdale where others had sex with her.
He was caged for six years and released in November 2014 after serving two years and six months of his sentence.
A Home Office spokesman said it would do “everything in our power” to deport foreign nationals who commit “heinous” crimes in the UK.
He added: “The UK and Pakistan are working in partnership on shared migration and return priorities.
“Both countries recognise and respect our common obligations to return those with no right to remain in our respective countries.”
