Commuters fuming over ‘rampant’ Dublin Bus behaviour and reveal ‘petty’ revenge

COMMUTERS are fuming over a “rampant” behaviour taking place on Dublin Bus.

A debate on Reddit is taking place over people who leave their bags on the spare seat beside them.

The debate kicked off on Reddit with a post calling out people who leave their bags on empty seats during crowded Dublin Bus rides.

The original poster revealed that he was fed up with commuters who monopolise seats – especially on rainy mornings when everyone is wet and cold.

The post reads: “There is no excuse. On a rainy Tuesday morning, people soaked and finally getting on the bus, only for people to not move their bags and let them sit down.

“It’s downright scummy behaviour and it’s rampant.

“If this is you, you need to get a grip. You have no right to monopolise two seats.”

And others have taken to the comment section to chime in on the debate.

One commenter had enough of being polite, saying they just loudly ask people to move their bags because it’s public transport and they’re not about to stand for it.

They said: “I’m old enough to not care anymore, I just loudly ask them to move their bag.”

Others chimed in with a different frustration, mentioning how some people sit in the aisle seats and refuse to scoot over – forcing others to awkwardly climb over them.

Another commented: “I get why this is bad but the trend of people sitting on the outside seats and refusing to scoot over and making people practically climb over them on buses and luases is worse”

In response, people admitted to getting a little bit of revenge.

Some commuters revealed that they now purposely go to sit next to the bag, just to make the bag owner’s day a little more inconvenient.

One user shared their tactic, saying they almost feel like it’s their duty to take the bag-seated spot, enjoying the “satisfaction” of it.

They wrote: “I’ll nearly purposely pick the seat with a bag on it – get satisfaction out of it.”

Another responded: “Backfire!”

Meanwhile, a warning has been issued to Dublin Bus passengers over the “temporary closure” of a busy stop.

The company issued an alert regarding a temporary stop closure on Route 53.

Due to roadworks on Terminal Road South and Alexandra Road Extension, bus stop 8358 will be unavailable for a week from Monday, February 10 to Monday, February 17.

Passengers are now being advised to use the nearby stop 8357 as an alternative, located on Breakwater Road North.

The statement reads: “We wish to advise customers that due to roadworks on Terminal Road South / Alexandra Road Extension from Monday 10 February until Monday 17 February 2025, bus stop 8358 Terminal Road South, will not be in use.

“Please proceed to stop 8357 Breakwater Road North for your nearest stop location.”

I was nearly a ‘pirate bride’ when my TOOTH fell out just before my wedding – I’d paid thousands for composite bonding

A WOMAN has opened up on her dental disaster that happened just hours before her wedding day.

Shannon Delijani, an Iranian Jewish Opera Singer, claimed that she was moments away from being a ‘pirate bride’ when her composite bonding fell out the night before she walked down the aisle.

She has now shared all on her dental nightmare[/caption]

Ahead of tying the knot on December 14, 2024, Shannon, who is from California, went for dinner with her husband-to-be and their friends, only to experience her worst nightmare as she was getting ready.

As the 28-year-old was doing her make-up, her smile quickly faded when a broken tooth fell straight out of her mouth.

And as it was a destination wedding in Oaxaca City, Mexico, Shannon didn’t know any local dentists, and it happened late in the evening when everywhere was closed.

Keen to open up on the dental nightmare, Shannon took to social media to share all, leaving many open-mouthed.

Alongside a short video of her crying, showing off her missing tooth, Shannon penned: “PSA to the girls with composite bonding, mine fell out the night before my wedding and I was almost a pirate bride.”

Moments later, we saw Shannon in a dentist’s chair, as she explained: “This is me and my husband at a Oaxacan dental office the night before our wedding trying to understand dental terminology in Spanish.”

She then confirmed: “Shoutout to Dr. Pombo for saving my smile, you’re a real one.”

Following her blunder, Shannon advised: “A tip for my fellow destination brides, make sure you know a good dentist in town because you never know what’s going to happen…”

And if you’re wondering how Shannon found a dentist at such short notice, she confirmed: “My planner found him!

“He kept his office open late and stayed with his wife to help us at 9pm!! Honestly we got so lucky, he was an angel.”

Not only this, but Shannon then told Newsweek: “When I was six years old, I broke my front tooth in a biking accident and had composite bonding placed.

“Over the years, it’s chipped once or twice, and I’ve had it retouched, but I’ve never had any issues with it.”

In that moment, I was devastated and terrified

Shannon Delijani

But after “bad luck and crazy timing”, Shannon explained: “I remember bursting into tears and sobbing to my husband that I was going to be a pirate bride.

“There’s so much pressure to look your best and be the perfect bride. On any normal occasion, I probably would have laughed it off, but in that moment, I was devastated and terrified.

Average cost of a wedding in 2025

Recent research by Hodge reveals the dream of getting married can come with a hefty price tag, reaching more than £20,000.

  • Food – £6,000
  • Honeymoon – £4,329
  • Wedding outfits – £3,500
  • Entertainment – £2,000
  • Engagement ring – £1,948
  • Flowers – £1,110
  • Wedding ring – £1,000
  • Wedding transport – £700

Total = £20,587

“I kept thinking about how I was going to show the photos to my grandkids and be missing a chunk of my front tooth.”

Social media users react

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @shannon_delijani, has clearly left many totally stunned, as it has quickly amassed 386,000 views.

Social media users eagerly flocked to the comments, claiming that Shannon’s blunder had now sparked a new ‘fear’ for many.

Why it’s time to ditch wedding favours once and for all

By Josie Griffiths, Deputy Digital Fabulous Editor and bride-to-be

Josie Griffiths said: When was the last time you spotted something in a shop window or browsed past it online and thought “that would be the perfect gift for 120 of my closest friends, work colleagues, relatives and boyfriend’s mate’s partners I barely know”?

I’ll tell you when, never, because there is NO universal gift everyone is going to love – unless you want to bankrupt yourself buying Rolexes and Tiffany jewellery, and even then they wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste.

So why do brides still pile the stress (and expense) of wedding favours on top of everything else we have to organise?

I’ve been to dozens of weddings over the past five years so when I got engaged, I already had a mental list of dos and don’ts for my own big day, and ditching wedding favours was firmly on it.

The cost of buying an individual present for everyone coming is huge, meaning many couples try and keep it in the under-a-fiver category.

But the reality is no-one wants a cheap, ill-thought-out keepsake – they’d probably rather one more free drink from the bar.

It’s not only that, wedding handbags are notoriously small, with no room to stuff an unexpected gift in, and catering waiters have a bad habit of whisking away the wedding favours when they’re clearing the coffee mug off the tables.

I bet none of my guests will even notice the lack of random gift on their dining table.

If you really hate the idea of not buying something for your guests, charity donations are always a nice gesture.

But the last thing your friends and family need is more random tat cluttering up their homes – so it’s time to save them the guilt of binning your Etsy-bought keyring.

Despite this, one user penned: “I know you don’t believe me but I think the chip made you look so cute. Glad you were able to fix it to your liking though.”

To this, Shannon replied: “That’s what my father in law said haha. Honestly it would have been ok but in the moment I was DISTRAUGHT.”

At the same time, another advised: “Aw you should send him a card to thank him. So cute. Happy you got a good dentist out there.”

Following this, Shannon confirmed: “We sent him a holiday gift basket and a note!! He was amazing and took such good care of me.”

Although both celebrities are headed to the same location, they have very different experiences.

Each star is presented with an envelope: in one, is everything they need for a five-star holiday; inside the other, it’s the holiday from hell.

It’s the luck of the draw who gets what.

So as one is driven off in a limo to their luxurious five-star hotel, the other sets off to find the shuttle bus to their hostel.

They meet up several times on the trip to compare notes, and gloat.

On yesterday’s episode, Kin actor Clare Dunne is paired with RTE Build Your Own Home star Harrison Gardner as they explore Austria.

Setting off from Dublin airport, Clare opted for envelope B, while Harrison took A.

Harrison’s choice of envelope A put him on the high road.

While Claire, with envelope B, will be on the low road.

The disparity in their travel was clear from the beginning as Harrison enjoyed a luxurious business class flight that ranges in cost from €525 to €645.

Meanwhile, Clare was placed on an economy flight to Munich, which range in price, from €305 to €490.

Despite their differing travel arrangements, both of the celebrities arrived in Munich.

Munich is a common route for travellers making their way to the Kaiser region in Austria, as it is just an hour and twenty minutes from the airport.

STUNNING LANDSCAPE

The pair eventually reached the town of Söll at the foothills of the Wild Kaiser region.

Harrison got to check into a luxury chalet, fitted with a sauna, kitchen and breath-taking landscape.

The Hockfilzer Hotel is surrounded by natural beauty and boasts private chalets with an average per-night fee of €516.

Meanwhile, on the low road, Clare checked into Ferienbauernhof Niedermuhlbichler.

CHARMING CHALET

A charming one-room family operated hotel, just outside the city, it has a €60 per-night charge.

Settling into their accommodations, the pair got to enjoy much of the surrounding areas, as Claire embarked on a solo hike.

While Harrison enjoyed a private guided mountain tour on an e-bike, not having to hike on foot, like Claire.

Later on, as Harrison enjoyed the private sauna in his chalet, he admitted: “I’ve found my recipe for getting through this terrible luxury life and it’s setting up in this sauna every night, getting the laptop playing outside the window and watching Kin.”

‘I CANT BELIEVE IT’

“I can’t believe I made Amanda Kinsella go the low road while I’m sitting here in a sauna.”

Meeting up to discuss their opposing trips the pair reflected while over looking the breath taking views of the Austrian mountain range.

Harrison admitted: “It’s been amazing, but I’ve had it easy with Saunas and swimming pools.”

Curious about his low road companion’s experience, he asked Clare: “How has it been for you?”

Clare remarked: “Really surprising, because I know it has got a brilliat Ski season, but just being here during the summer has been so eye-opening.

“I just didn’t expect there to be so much to do.”

The pair left on a high, agreeing they would both come back to the area, albeit separately.

How dirty is YOUR local petrol station? Seven types of bacteria & traces of POO found on pumps nationwide

PETROL stations across the UK are crawling with bacteria, including traces of poo, a shocking investigation has revealed.

Tests on fuel pumps, pay machines, and door handles in London, Nottingham, and Manchester found a shocking amount of bacteria lurking on every surface.

Alarmingly, samples from the Nottingham forecourt showed the highest bacterial levels, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, commonly found on cockroaches[/caption]

The swabs, analysed by industrial hygiene consultancy Sysco, found seven types of dangerous bacteria, including faecal matter.

The study commissioned by National Scrap Car, paints a “grotty picture” of the bacterial contamination at forecourts nationwide.

The tests revealed the presence of faecal streptococci and enterococci, a bacteria commonly found in human and animal intestines at all four petrol stations sampled.

These bacteria are a clear indicator of faecal contamination.

One petrol station in Nottingham had “significantly high” levels of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria often found in cockroach droppings.

This bug can cause skin infections, respiratory issues, and serious problems for people with weakened immune systems.

The Nottingham site recorded a staggering 1,720 CFU (Colony-forming units) of this bacteria, far higher than the levels typically found on a clean toilet seat, which usually sit below 100 CFU/m².

Tomas Gabor, director at Sysco, said: “A count of 1,720 CFU is significantly higher than typical levels expected.”

Traces of E. coli, Clostridium perfringens, and Faecal streptococci, indicating the presence of fecal matter, were detected on Manchester’s petrol pumps.

However, all counts were below 20 CFUs.

Petrol pump handles are touched by hundreds of people daily but are rarely disinfected.

Experts recommend using hand sanitiser or washing hands after refuelling to minimise the risk of exposure to harmful bacteria.

The seven types of bacteria found on pumps:

  1. Escherichia coli (E. coli)– Found in food, water, and intestines of humans and animals. Most strains are harmless, but some cause diarrhea, UTIs, pneumonia, and sepsis, especially in vulnerable individuals.
  2. Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) -Common in soil, decaying vegetation, and intestines. Causes food poisoning, with spores surviving cooking, leading to diarrhea and cramps if food is improperly stored.
  3.  Pseudomonas aeruginosa– Found in water, soil, and cockroach droppings. Dangerous for immunocompromised individuals, causing respiratory, urinary tract, and wound infections, especially in hospitals.
  4. Salmonella– Lives in the intestines of farm animals, contaminating meat, eggs, dairy, and produce. Causes severe food poisoning, with vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, particularly dangerous for infants and the elderly.
  5. Faecal streptococci & enterococci– Found in human and animal intestines, indicating fecal contamination. Can cause infections in the bloodstream, urinary tract, and wounds, posing risks in healthcare settings.
  6. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus)– Present on skin, in nasal passages, and homes. Causes minor infections like acne but can lead to deadly pneumonia, sepsis, and heart infections, particularly in hospitals.
  7. Bacillus Cereus– Found in soil, rice, grains, and dairy. Produces toxins in improperly stored food, leading to nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, especially in young children and the elderly.

Buffer is set to help Rugby League fans “celebrate their love” in a special ‘Las Wigan Chapel’ outside the Brick Community Stadium.

The chapel will feature a fully ordained celebrant, with loved-up couples given a chance to renew their vows alongside one of sport’s greatest announcers.

It comes as the Warriors prepare to jet to Vegas for a special Stateside match at Allegiant Stadium against Warrington Wolves.

Buffer said, via a press release: “I can’t wait to make the journey across the pond to the bright lights of Wigan to help Super League fans have the full Vegas experience.

“I might not be dressed as the King of Rock and Roll, but I can assure you that alongside Sky Sports, we are going to make this a Valentine’s Day to remember.

“It really is a match made in Vegas.”

The ceremonies will give couples a chance to exchange personal vows, but will not be legally binding.

A survey of UK adults found Sin City was a “dream wedding location” for 8 per cent of Brits.

And for some lucky couples, Buffer will be on site himself to serenade them down the aisle.

Wigan begin their Super League defence in Nevada on March 1 against Wire.

Warrington have themselves been dabbling with celebrities ahead of the new season.

The club honoured superfan and darts star Luke Littler following his PDC World Championship win last month.

The club have renamed the Halliwell Jones Stadium for their Super League opener against the Catalan Dragons.

Lifelong Wolves fan Littler said: “It’s a dream come true that the club I’ve been a fan of since I was young has decided to name the stadium after me for a night!

“It’s an absolute honour and I can’t thank the club enough.”

Wire CEO Karl Fitzpatrick added: “Luke’s achievements on the world stage have been nothing short of incredible.

“And we are immensely proud to celebrate his success with this special homecoming.

“He’s a true Warrington fan, and therefore renaming our stadium in his honour for our home opener is a fitting tribute.”
