The 49p plant that keeps wasps away – it flowers until September & fills your garden with gorgeous fragrance

THERE’S nothing better than lying out in your garden and soaking up the sun.

And don’t worry if your space seems prone to wasps because a handy hack can help to repel them.

And since the current heatwave likely means more barbecues and garden get togethers, wasp season is officially here.

If you want to enjoy your summer drinks and al fresco dining without worrying about these buzzing pests, you can swap out a chemical spray for a natural deterrent.

With wasp populations increasing even further in July, now is the time to act.

Thankfully, one of summer’s most popular plants can double as a natural wasp repellent.

But you’ll want to get it in the ground now as once wasps beging building nests they become a lot more difficult to remove.

That’s when things get really costly, with professional removal fees reaching up to £241.

Liam Cleary, who works as an outdoor plants expert at Old Railway Line Garden Centre, revealed that planting lavender is a simple and affordable solution to your wasp problem.

“Wasps are highly sensitive to strong scents, and lavender is one they really don’t like,” he explained.

“Planting it near seating areas, doorways, or patios can help mask the smells that attract them, like food, sugary drinks, or perfumes.”

Lavender contains essential oils like linalool and camphor, which give it that distinctive floral smell.

And while this scent is pleasant to humans it can be overwhelming to wasps, which rely heavily on scent to detect food.

But don’t worry, pollinator insects will still be drawn to this garden plant.

And since lavender is drought-tolerant, you don’t have to worry about it in the summer heat.

You can pick up a pot of lavender for £6 from Ikea, or lavender seeds for as little as 49p can be found at The Range.

“It’s low maintenance, smells incredible, and keeps your garden feeling calm, all while helping you enjoy a wasp-free zone,” the expert added.

Keep pests out all summer

Hornets and wasps – hate the smell of peppermint oil so spraying this liberally around your patio or balcony can help to keep them at bay.

Moths – acidic household white vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak some kitchen roll in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.

Flying ants – herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, mint, chilli pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves, or garlic act as deterrents.

Mosquitoes – plants, herbs and essential oil fragrances can help deter mossies inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender and lemongrass.

If you’re planning to add lavender to your outdoor space, choose a sunny spot.

Lavender loves full sun and well-drained soil, so avoid shaded or damp areas.

Be careful not to overwater as this can cause lavender to wilt or rot.

And if you’re particularly prone to wasp visits, try planting lavender alongside mint, thyme, or lemongrass for an extra layer of protection.

Wasps are known become more aggressive from late June into August as their colonies grow and natural food sources decline.

This makes them more likely to pester humans for sugary snacks and drinks so you may want to cover your food and drinks when enjoying time in the sun.

You should also avoid wearing bright clothing and strong perfumes if you want to steer clear of these stinging pests.

Finally, keep these insects away from your home by sealing your bins and compost this summer.

A 22p item from your kitchen cupboard can also help to repel wasps from your garden.

Another 10p hack can also keep the pests from your garden all summer long.

And you can also keep these insects from your home this summer with another handy trick.

Or you can use a natural ingredient to repel wasps from your garden on a budget.

An affordable bait method can also work in your favour when repelling pests.

Fuming Love Island viewers calling Ofcom as show is hit by fresh bullying row after explosive fight

FUMING Love Island viewers are calling Ofcom as the show is hit by a fresh bullying row, after an explosive fight.

It comes after fans watched on as Yasmin snogged two of the boys in the villa, during a game of beer pong.

The cheeky bombshell also shared a kiss with Dejon

Yasmin’s first snog occurred with Dejon, who is coupled up with Meg, but he was tasked with snogging the Islander he found most attractive, aside from his partner.

He went straight over to Yasmin as Meg watched on, and snogged her.

Later on in the game, Yasmin ended up snogging Harry too, despite being coupled up with Shea.

And some of the girls questioned Yasmin’s motives after the villa snogs, including Meg who was shocked to see love interest Dejon’s kiss with her.

After a tense exchange between Meg and Yasmin, some fans have threatened to call Ofcom, accusing the girls of “ganging up.”

One person wrote: “Can the girls stop going at Yasmin… OFCOM! #LoveIsland.”

A second penned: “Ofcom complaint being filed for the witches coven bullying Yasmin #LoveIsland.”

A third echoed: “Those OFCOM lines will be busy #LoveIsland,” and a fourth said: “I wanna write to ofcom that was awful tv #LoveIsland.”

The threats of Ofcom come as Meg said to Yasmin in front of the group: “Wait, how can you still be happy in your couple if you’re snogging everyone but the man you’re coupled up with?”

Yasmin fired back: “It’s just a game,” to which Meg responded: “But you’re saying you’re happy in your couple.”

Things were obviously tense between the ladies, as Yasmin backed her reasoning, responding: “Everyone’s playing the games way too safe and you’re here to explore connections and to take risks.”

Not backing down, Meg added: “I know it’s a game, but you got asked if you’re happy in your couple and you said yes, and you’ve not once kissed your man. Don’t think you’re happy in your couple.”

Yasmin ended the chat by saying: “That’s your opinion,” as the other Islanders watched on.

  • Blu Chegini: A boxer with striking model looks, seeking love in the villa.

So far Yasmin has asked Dejon for a threesome, propositioned Harry, and talked no stop about sex – despite saying she had only slept with two men.

It all kicked off after Yasmin turned to Dejon on Tuesday night’s episode, and asked: “I have a question for you, it’s a bit rogue, would you have a threesome with me and Toni?”

Dejon laughed – but was soon saved from answering as Meg called out: “Come here please!”

He joked: “You called me at a good time! Oh my god! We’ll continue that question.”

However, the flirty tone continued as she followed up with: “It was in my head, I had to say it. Intrusive thoughts, intrusive thoughts.”

Yasmin tried to defend the comment as innocent fun, insisting: “It was just flirty banter. I think all of us talk really openly about sex and what we want to experience.”

But Meg wasn’t having it, firing back: “It just seems to be you three all the time.”

In the same episode, bombshell Yasmin revealed to some of the Islanders, including Harry and Dejon, that a man had never given her an orgasm before – which came amid another very shocking claim.

The Londoner also confessed that she has only ever slept with two men before, despite speaking about sex frequently with guys in the villa.

Then, in Wednesday night’s instalment, Yasmin spoke to Harry on the terrace when things got very flirty.

She spoke about being “bent over” and he said she was “undressing” him with her eyes.

Moment train passenger screams ‘I’m gonna break your FACE’ and lunges at worker

THIS IS the shocking moment a train passenger screams “I’m gonna break your face” to a member of staff.

Throughout the video, he incessantly asks to access the train’s cafe bar despite the fact that it has already closed.

He can be heard saying “I’m going to break your face” to the worker[/caption]

The chilling footage shows the passenger shouting at the staff member on the late-night London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train.

Remaining calm, the train worker tries to reduce the tension by asking the passenger to sit.

The worker can be heard saying: “I’m just gonna ask you to take a seat – come on, let’s take a seat.”

The passenger then raised his voice, shouting “I’m going to break your face. You’re lucky” at the worker.

Then, he waved his hand towards the managers while appearing to hold his mobile phone.

In response, the manager said: “Don’t point that in my face.

“I need to close the café bar. Don’t put that in my face please.”

However, the passenger continued to be aggressive and shouted “shut your mouth. Try it now”.

The shocking event has been confirmed to have taken place on March 16, though the train’s destination remains unknown.

The Sun has contacted the British Transport Police and LNER for comment on the incident onboard the train.

In a separate incident on board a train bound for King’s Cross on July 2, 2024, another man can be seen shouting at a ticket collector.

The footage is included in the first half of the video and shows the passenger swearing repeatedly at the rail worker, while saying “you’re going to lose your job”.

Meanwhile, the worker raises a hand to calm the man – prompting the passenger to accuse the railway worker of laying his “hands” on him.

The company chose to release the footage as part of “Rail Safety Week”.

The week is aimed at supporting staff who have been victims of abuse by passengers, while promoting sensible behaviour for train users.

The video surfaced just as news came in that a man was arrested in London for allegedly having a gun, whilst on a tube platform.

Cops raced to Elm Park Underground station at 7am to arrest the 61-year-old.

Investigations into the incident are now underway and police are appealing to witnesses for more information.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Officers were called just after 7am today (June 19) to Elm Park Underground station following reports of a man in possession of a firearm.

“Officers attended, and a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 109 of 19 June.”

Inside Ronnie O’Sullivan’s on-off relationship with Strictly star Laila Rouass as pair leave UK for ‘clean break’

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN and Laila Rouass have had an on-and-off relationship down the years but have re-united after months apart.

The pair have jetted out to Dubai after rekindling their relationship, pals told The Sun.

O’Sullivan first met Laila in 2012 and they were engaged a year later before moving in together in Essex.

The snooker star became stepdad to Laila’s daughter, Inez, from her second marriage to businessman Nasir Khan.

But they put marriage on the “back burner” as Laila told The Sun: “We’re enjoying our time. There’s no rush.”

Their relationship hit its first rocky patch in 2022, leading to a split.

Strictly star Laila, 53, took to social media and wrote: “After nearly ten years of love and memories, Ronnie & I have parted ways.”

That did not last long however with the duo working out their differences and re-uniting.

O’Sullivan reportedly threw himself back into the relationship and he insisted they were “happier than ever”.

He said: “It’s good. She’s great. I love her. She’s great company and I love being around her.

“She’s very supportive. I have to behave myself. I know when to go, ‘Alright, you’re in charge’.

“But she’s also really good at going, ‘Listen, you’ve got a busy life, you’ve got a lot to do, just get on with it’.”

He added: “Now it feels a lot better – everyone’s just in a better place. I just want to see her and her daughter happy, and her family, who are like my family, happy.”

Fast forward two years and they were back in a bad patch, with O’Sullivan moving out of their £2million Essex home.

The house was listed for sale with the seven-time world champion setting up shop in a London bachelor pad.

A friend of the couple said: “Ronnie and Laila really threw themselves back into their relationship after the split a couple of years ago.

“He kept posting pics of them online at home together and saying romantic things on special occasions, but that’s all come to a halt.

“They’ve tried so hard but they just can’t make it work.”

Now the pair have ironed out their issues once more and not just back together, but planning a new life in the UAE.

A source told us: “They have been back together for a while.

“The time apart gave them time to think about what they want and what is important to them — and that is being together.

“Ronnie is moving to the Middle East and Laila is going with him. They’ve talked about living in Dubai, which is just a two-hour flight from where Ronnie has his snooker academy in Saudi Arabia.

“He has spoken to people on his snooker circuit about the move and is excited about a clean break from the UK for him and Laila.

“They have had their issues in the past but Ronnie and Laila have worked through it and seem really happy again.

“The people who know them think they make a great couple and just want them to live a happy, quiet life.”

The Sun first revealed they had ended their engagement last September after his hectic work schedule pushed them apart.
