Stoppage-time two-pointer from Tipperary’s Mark Russell pips Longford in NFL Division 4 thriller
MARK RUSSELL nailed a stoppage-time two-pointer from the sideline to ensure TIPPERARY edged out a Division 4 thriller 3-13 to 1-18 against LONGFORD in Clonmel.
Damp and windy conditions did not prevent these two sides from playing out a cracker that swung back and forth.
Matthew Carey and Oran Kenny struck from distance to give Longford an early lead but Seán O’Connor and Luke Boland both found the net for Tipp in the space of 60 seconds.
But the Midlanders rallied again to lead 0-11 to 2-3 at the interval, with Aaron Farrell kicking 0-4 off the bench.
Cathal McCabe then struck a major to stretch Longford’s lead until the first of Russell’s pair of two-pointers gave the Premier life.
Michael Freaney’s goal for Tipp put the game back in the melting pot and set up a wild finish.
It was nip and tuck in the early stages of CARLOW’S trip to Dungarvan.
But once Ross Dunphy fisted to the WATERFORD net, the Barrowsiders had enough breathing room.
Alan Dunwoody pointed for the home side to leave a goal in it with an hour gone but Carlow surged home, with Kevin Murphy’s stoppage-time goal crowning a 2-15 to 0-12 win.
