The incident, on the Mullahead Road, involved a motorcycle and a Renault Scenic car.

The motorcyclist, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inspector Cherith Adair: “Officers received and responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a Renault Scenic car at Mullahead Road shortly after 8.10am.

“Colleagues from partner services were also in attendance.

“Sadly, a 25-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Road closures were in place for some time but the Mullahead Road has since reopened, while a closure remains in place at Ballymore Road.”

Cops are asking anyone with information or camera footage to make contact with them.

He added: “We are appealing to anyone in the area at the time and has dash cam or mobile phone footage to get in touch via 101, and quote reference number 231 of 19/06/25, or report online at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.”

Separately, another motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Antrim yesterday.

The crash, involving a van and a motorcycle, happened on the Garron Road in Carnlough around 6.50pm

The male motorcyclist was hospitalised, where he remains in a critical but stable condition at this time.

Sergeant Courtney said: “Police received and responded to a report of a collision involving a van and a motorcycle shortly after 6.50pm.

“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

“The male motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries, where he remains in a critical but stable condition at this time.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information or camera footage.

Sergeant Courtney  added: “Enquiries are ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any mobile phone or dash cam footage, to get in touch via 101, quoting reference number 1537 of 19/06/25.”

Dartford Crossing charge to rise by 40 per cent in September – check how much you’ll now have to pay

THE Dartford Crossing is set to become more expensive to use in just a couple of months time.

The crossing – which was known as the Dartford Tunnel until 1991 – is made up of two tunnels and the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and carries a charge for many who use it.

PA
The cost of using the Dartford Crossing is set to rise in a matter of weeks[/caption]

Used by around 180,000 cars every day the cost of using the crossing will rise from £2.50 to £3.50 on September 1, marking the first price increase since 2014.

Transport Secretary, Lilian Greenwood, explained the toll increase was necessary in order to manage the almost 200,000 vehicles that use it everyday.

“I am aware that these necessary changes to the charges will be unwelcome news for users of the crossing,” she said in a statement to parliament.

“These traffic levels are well in excess of the crossing’s design capacity, causing delays for drivers.”

Buses, coaches, vans and other commercial vehicles with two axles will pay up to £4.20 when the new fees kick in, while vehicles with more than two axles will have to pay up to £8.40.

The Transport Minister promised “significant” discounts on the tolls for people living locally and car drivers with prepaid accounts.

“I am aware that these necessary changes to the charges will be unwelcome news for users of the Crossing,” Greenwood said in her stament.

“I have been determined to keep the nominal fee paid by local people as low as possible, as many rely on the Crossing to get around their local area.”

She added that drivers who live in Dartford or Thurrock and who have signed up to the Scheme will pay £25 for unlimited annual crossings from September 1, which is a small increase from the current annual fee.

Greenwood argued: “The new charges will be significantly lower than if they had increased in line with inflation since the tariff was last fully revised in 2014.”

The charges at the Dartford Crossing vary depending on the type of vehicle being driven and if the driver already has an account set up on the gov.co.uk website.

The fees are often referred to as the Dart Charge.

Since the tollbooths at the Dartford Crossing have been removed, the charge can be paid on the gov.co.uk website.

Charges must be settled by midnight the day after crossing but can also be paid in advance.

The government website can be used to pay the Dart Charge and to set up an account to make future payments easier and cheaper.

Users can also use the service to pay or challenge a fine, as well as check which crossings they have paid for.

Inside minuscule EV with top speed of 56mph that costs just £21k – it’s the perfect travel companion for summer

A FOUR-WHEELED electric bubble car manufactured by a Swiss company makes the perfect companion for a seaside trip.

Micro, the maker of the adorable quadricycles, has unveiled a new Spiaggina version last year.

Spiaggina is the latest version of Microlino, a tiny battery-powered bubble car introduced in 2022.

The microcar sports a 17bhp e-motor and can reach a top speed of 56mph.

Spiaggina comes in two colours, reminiscent of Italian seaside towns – Portofino Blue and Sardinia Sage.

If you’d like to enjoy a sea breeze during your drive, the quadricycle can lose its rear and side windows while the canvas roof can be removed entirely.

The minuscule EV is equipped with a front-opening door and externally mounted headlights as well as a trunk.

Inside, it features a simplistic but elegant design with vegan leather seats in a two-tone colour.

The seat material is the same as the one often used in sailing yachts which means it’s moisture-resistant too.

With a 10.5kWh battery, the Spiaggina can survive up to 110 miles without recharge.

Once out of juice, it only takes four hours at a home socket to regain its battery entirely.

Microlino will also offer Cool and Connect package which includes a climate control system, a smartphone holder and a Bluetooth speaker.

The price for the Cool and Connect package is yet to be revealed.

But The Spaggiana in its mid-range spec is currently available for £21,377.

It comes after the Swiss firm’s micro motors hit the UK streets last year.

The manufacturer also plans to partner with major city authorities such as Transport for London to bring entire fleets of Microlinos to be hired, just like electric scooters and bicycles.

Swiss inventor Wim Ouboter started creating Micro Scooters 25 years ago and transformed the way people get around.

Since 1997, Ouboter’s family-owned Micro Mobility Systems business has sold more than 50 million scooters in 30 varying models and generated over £600m.

‘Oh hey friends’ – Sharlene Mawdsley’s cute snap as she’s cheered on at training by GAA ace boyfriend

IT was a case of a Tipperary takeover at the University of Limerick on Thursday as Sharlene Mawdsley partook in a training session there.

She was cheered on by two loved ones – one of whom being Tipp half-back and boyfriend Michael Breen.

It’s clearly part of the package when you’re dating an Olympic athlete.

But Breen doesn’t seem to mind as he’s getting in the habit of sharing snaps whilst “coaching” her.

He previously quipped he was on “coaching duty” while looking on as she did laps on what looks to be the same track.

The Ballina man will be racing around the Gaelic Grounds himself as the Premier have an All-Ireland quarter-final date with Galway on Saturday.

That 6.15pm throw-in will be preceded by the hurling clash of Dublin and Limerick in Croke Park at 4pm.

While both of those premier match-ups will be shown live on RTE Two, there is yet another frustrating schedule clash if you also happen to be a fan of Gaelic football.

Dublin against Cork will throw-in at the exact same time as Tipp against Galway as it’s going to be a Dubs double-header from Jones’ Road.

The day’s other All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final between Kerry and Cavan will also more or less run concurrent with Dublin versus Limerick as that’ll be a 3.30pm start.

Aside from heading along in person, both of those affairs will be only available to watch via GAA+.

A bumper Sunday will see Ulster champions Donegal and Leinster kingpins Louth face off in Ballybofey at 4pm.

That’ll be a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland quarter-final which Jim McGuinness’ men won 1-23 to 0-18.

Galway’s prize for their last-gasp win over Armagh on Saturday is a trip to Newry to face Conor Laverty’s Down at 1.45.

And Croker will roll out the red carpet for the last four of the Tailteann Cup as Wicklow get the ball rolling against Limerick at 2pm before Kildare’s clash with Fermanagh at 4.

Mawdsley last competed in Philadelphia where she placed second in a season’s-best 200m time of 23.24.

In addition to that showing on the Sunday at the big-money Grand Slam Track event, she also came sixth in the long sprints category 24 hours previous.

For that performance, she banked $15,000 with Olympic 400m gold medallist Marileidy Paulino coming out on top.

The 26-year-old wound up in fifth place. Again, she clocked a season’s-best time in that race at 51.12.

Her next outing is due to take place between June 28-29 in Maribor, Slovenia at the European Team Championships.

Royal Ascot key race previews

Friday

3:05 Group 1 Commonwealth Cup: 6f (3yo) – Shadow Of Light 15/8

Colin Keane could have a dream day in the saddle should he get his old boss, Ger Lyons’s Babouche, over the line in the first place here. But the more we delve into the Commonwealth Cup, this looks there for the taking for SHADOW OF LIGHT. A top-class operator as a two-year-old, winning two Group 1s over 6f and 7f, Shadow Of Light seemed to be stretched in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket over 1m but still finished a close third behind two top-class colts.

He drops back to 6f here, which won’t be an issue for the son of Lope De Vega. He has every right to come forward fitness-wise for his run a Newmarket, and this prominent racer should prove hard to beat here. Should Shadow Of Light underperform, Big Mojo may be the one to capitalize. He made a winning return to the tack over this course and distance and was unlucky not to back that up on his next start. At his current odds, he looks a good each-way alternative.

4:20 Group 1 Coronation Stakes: 1m (3yo) (Rnd) – Exactly 10/1

The French 1000 Guineas winner, Zarigana, will be hard to beat if she is at her best, but even so, her form is not beyond reach. The supplemented Falakeyah is a fascinating runner on the back of an impressive Listed win on just her second career start.

EXACTLY was just over one length behind Zarigana in the French 1000 Guineas, and considering that the Aidan O’Brien filly was hampered in the closing stages and eased off inside the final 100 yards, she doesn’t have much to find with Zarigana.

Saturday

3:40 Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes: 6f (4yo+) – Inisherin 4/1

The final Group 1 of Royal Ascot 2025 comes over 6f with a host of runners with realistic chances of winning. Storm Boy was the talk of the town when arriving at Ballydoyle from Australia, but he started his career in Ireland with a whimper. He was sent off the well-supported 6/4 favourite for his Irish debut, but he was beaten by the two-furlong pole, eventually finishing last of the six runners.

However, he is trained by Aidan O’Brien, so expect to see this son of Justify take a big step forward here. Even if he does show considerable improvement, he and the rest of the field may find it hard to head the game INISHERIN. The Kevin Ryan-trained inmate was an easy winner of the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot 2024, and he made a winning return to the track when showing bravery to hold off the fast-finishing Flora Of Bermuda.

This big strong son of Shamardal looked as if he would come on plenty for his comeback run, and given how he won with so much ease over course and distance last season, Inisherin can make it back-to-back Royal Ascot wins. Elite Status looks to have been missed in the betting and can run well at big odds.

Irish runners at Royal Ascot in 2025

  • HENRI MATISSE (St James’s Palace – Aidan O’Brien) French 2000 Guineas. winner.
  • REACHING HIGH (Ascot Stakes – Willie Mullins) Major improvement to come. Royal runner.
  • ONE LOOK (Duke Of Cambridge – PaddyT womey) Career best on her latest run. Big chance.
  • LOS ANGELES (Prince Of Wales Stakes – Aidan O’Brien) Unbeaten this season. Battle hardened.
  • CHARLES DARWIN (Norfolk Stakes – Aidan O’Brien) – Odds on in three starts. An exciting sprinter in the making.
  • ILLINIOS (Gold Cup – Aidan O’Brien) – Super sub for Kyprios. New trip is an unknown but has huge potential.
  • BABOUCHE (Commonwealth Cup – Ger Lyons) – Back to winning ways as of late. Big player here.
  • EXACTLY (Coronation Stakes – Aidan O’Brien) – 4th in French 2000 Guineas. Can get closer to the winner here.
  • STORM BOY (Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes – Aidan O’Brien) – Talented sprinter who is likely to leave a poor Irish debut well behind.

Raging China slams Britain after Royal Navy warship sails through Taiwan Strait in defiant message to Xi

CHINA has slammed the UK after a Royal Navy warship cruised through the Taiwan Strait in a defiant message to Xi Jinping.

Beijing blasted HMS Spey’s patrol through the passage, branding it a disruptive act of “intentional provocation” that “undermines peace and stability”.

The UK warship transit was a defiant message to Chinese President Xi Jinping[/caption]

The British Royal Navy said the route was part of a long-planned deployment and in accordance with international law.

The bold patrol was the first by a Brit naval vessel in four years.

A Chinese navy spokesperson hit back at HMS Spey’s route, and blasted the UK for “publicly hyping up” the journey.

They added the UK’s claims were “a distortion of legal principles and an attempt to mislead the public”.

And in a chilling threat, they said that Chinese troops would respond and “resolutely counter all threats and provocations” made by HMS Spey.

Meanwhile, Taiwan praised the patrol as an act that safeguarded the freedom of navigation in the highly disputed strait.

US warships regularly conduct freedom of navigation exercises in the strait.

But the last time a British naval vessel made a journey like this was in 2021 when HMS Richmond was deployed from Japan to Vietnam.

China, much like this time round, condemned the transit and sent troops to monitor the ship.

HMS Spey is one of two British warships permanently on patrol in the Indo-Pacific region.

China slammed the route as a means of aggression amid the ongoing simmering tension between Taipei and Beijing.

Taiwan insists it is an independent nation after splitting from mainland China amid civil war in 1949.

But China claims Taiwan remains a part of its territory with which it must eventually be reunified – and has not ruled out the use of force to take the island and place it under Beijing’s control.

The island, which is roughly 100 miles from the coast of south-east China, sees itself as distinct from the Chinese mainland, with its own constitution and democratically-elected leaders.

Beijing has ramped up military pressure on Taiwan and held multiple large-scale exercises around the island, often described as preparations for a blockade or invasion.

China also claims almost the entire disputed waterway in the South China Sea – through which more than 60 per cent of global maritime trade passes.

This is despite an international ruling that Beijing’s assertion has no merit.

In April, Xi Jinping launched a fresh round of army, navy and rocket force exercises encircling Taiwan.

Beijing described their concerning movements, which included 19 warships and 50 aircraft, as a “stern warning” and a “powerful deterrent against Taiwanese independence”.

And in May, satellite pictures showed that China had deployed its most dangerous nuke bombers to a tiny but vital island sea base.

Aerial photos showed two hulking H-6 bombers on an airfield on Woody Island in the South China Sea, taken on May 19.

Taiwan’s economy is another factor in China’s desperation to reclaim the land.

If China takes the island, it could be freer to project power in the western Pacific and rival the US, thanks to much of the world’s electronics being made in Taiwan.

This would allow Beijing to have control over an industry that drives the global economy.

China insists that its intentions are peaceful, but President Xi Jinping has also used threats towards the small island nation.

In this years New Year’s address, President Xi even said that the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family.

He has previously called the independence of Taiwan a futile effort and that annexation by Beijing is a “historical inevitability”.

It comes as a UK carrier strike group arrives in the Indo-Pacific region as part of Operation Highmast which is set to last several months.

Keir Starmer said it was aimed at “sending a clear message of strength to our adversaries, and a message of unity and purpose to our allies”.

Total blockade, air blitz & island grab… Three ways China could seize Taiwan

By Sayan Bose, Foreign News Reporter

WITH an overwhelming military force, advanced warfare techniques and a fragmenting West, Xi Jinping will likely feel more confident than ever to seize Taiwan, experts warn.

And if China does decide to attack, it’s feared it will go in with “full force” using three major military strategies that would wreak havoc on the island.

Defence experts say it’s the “perfect moment” for Xi’s long-standing ambition to reunify Taiwan with the Chinese mainland – and it could launch an attack as soon as 2027.

Professor Ashok Swain, a peace and security expert at Uppsala University in Sweden, says that China could look to attack Taiwan with full force.

He said: “The global politics has changed dramatically in the last couple of months… the way Ukraine is being handled by the United States gives a certain comfort level to Xi.

“It is the perfect moment for China to attack Taiwan if it plans to do so.”

Swain suggests they could invade through a devastating air blitz to disable Taiwan’s defences as naval forces also encircle the island.

This coordinated approach would aim to prevent Taiwan’s forces from mounting an effective response and limit the time available for Western intervention, the expert argues.

China could also seize all or some of the islands surrounding Taiwan’s mainland to gauge a reaction from the West.

Any response short of military support would embolden Xi to go further – like Putin annexing Crimea in 2014.

The third attack route could be a total blockade.

Military experts say China will start with an ever-tightening squeeze on Taiwan using naval blockades around the island – something very similar to the war drills Beijing has been conducting for years.

An effective sea and air blockade would halt valuable exports and cut off help from the US and Japan.

The island could be crippled financially, economically and operationally if Beijing extended military exercises for a longer period.

Love Island fans’ bizarre conspiracy theory Yasmin is ‘AI bot’ after series of weird moments in villa

LOVE Island fans are convinced Yasmin Pettet is an AI bot in a bizarre conspiracy theory – following a series of weird moments in the villa.

The claim gained traction on social media following last night’s episode, when Yasmin, 24, appeared unusually rigid during the recoupling.

Clips of Yasmin sitting bolt upright in her bikini have added fuel to the theory[/caption]

Viewers noted that she stood stiffly by the firepit, blinking slowly and barely reacting to the events unfolding around her.

Clips of Yasmin sitting bolt upright in her bikini during Wednesday night’s installment have added fuel to the theory, with fans describing her as “glitching” and “robotic”.

One TikTok user posted a video of Yasmin with the caption: “She genuinely scares me,” while another joked, “Is Yasmin AI?” on X, formerly Twitter.

A third viewer wrote: “I saw someone say Yasmin is AI and bro she is literally not real.”

Someone else joked: “Yasmin is the certified first Love island AI icon,” as a fifth chimed in with: “is yasmin love island’s first ai contestant?”

One more asked: “Are we sure Yasmin is’nt AI robot?”

Show fans previously shared their convinction the commercial banking executive had been planted by producers, ranting, “she CANNOT be real!”

Due to her outrageous antics, fans are convinced Yasmin is a Love Island “mole” and has been put in the villa by producers to stir things up.

So far she has asked Dejon for a threesome, propositioned Harry, and talked no stop about sex – despite saying she had only slept with two men.

Taking to X, one wrote: “I am convinced Yasmin is a producer plant and was told to f**k s**t up. She cannot me real!”

Another added: “Yasmin has to be a producer plant because there is no way.”

Someone else fumed: “You cannot convince me she isn’t some sort of producer plant put in to stir the pot this season.”

‘REAL VILLA VILLIAN’

Fans have also branded Yasmin “the real villain” of the villa as they feel she is doing all she can to split up Meg and Dejon.

Yasmin has come under fire over her flirty interactions with Dejon, and also asking him for a “threesome”.

Taking to X, one fan vented: “Yasmin is a villain she just doesn’t give a f**k.”

Another added: “Yasmin is actually a beg AND a weirdo omg what a villain.”

Someone else fumed: “They hating Malisha when the real villain is Yasmin.”

It all kicked off after Yasmin turned to Dejon on Tuesday night’s episode, and asked: “I have a question for you, it’s a bit rogue, would you have a threesome with me and Toni?”

Dejon laughed – but was soon saved from answering as Meg called out: “Come here please!”

He joked: “You called me at a good time! Oh my god! We’ll continue that question.”

However, the flirty tone continued as she followed up with: “It was in my head, I had to say it. Intrusive thoughts, intrusive thoughts.”

Yasmin tried to defend the comment as innocent fun, insisting: “It was just flirty banter. I think all of us talk really openly about sex and what we want to experience.”

But Meg wasn’t having it, firing back: “It just seems to be you three all the time.”

In the same episode, bombshell Yasmin revealed to some of the Islanders, including Harry and Dejon, that a man had never given her an orgasm before – which came amid another very shocking claim.

The Londoner also confessed that she has only ever slept with two men before, despite speaking about sex frequently with guys in the villa.

Then, in Wednesday night’s instalment, Yasmin spoke to Harry on the terrace when things got very flirty.

She spoke about being “bent over” and he said she was “undressing” him with her eyes.
