Hotel slammed for using endangered red pandas to wake up guests by letting cuddly critters crawl into their beds

A HOTEL in China uses endangered red pandas to wake up its guests, allowing the cuddly animals to crawl into their beds.

However, the Lehe Ledu Liangjiang Holiday Hotel, situated in the remote countryside near the southwestern city of Chongqing, has been rapped by the local forestry agency due to animal welfare concerns.

The hotel draws in the guests by advertising “red panda-themed holidays” where the loveable animals are allowed into rooms as a way of waking people up.

While the publicity has brought in the guests it has also attracted criticism.

Clips on social media show the endangered animals sitting on beds and interacting with the guests, who appear to be delighted to have them in their rooms.

The hotel has drawn the attention of local media with a Chinese magazine featuring the unusual hotel which triggered a discussion on social media about the ethical use of the animals.

In turn, the publicity drew the attention of the local forestry bureau who sent a team of inspectors round to investigate.

A statement issued by the bureau said it had ordered the immediate halt to all “close contact” activities with the red pandas and added it would report back on any further findings.

Brit YouTube stars Ben and Reanne Dridger, from Portsmouth, who update their fans with vlogs of their travels through China, loved their encounter with the red pandas when they visited the hotel in April.

Speaking to the camera, Ben said: “China is the only place in the world where you can have a panda delivered to your room to sit on your bed with you,” before the camera panned to Reanne who was seen hand feeding pieces of apple to the friendly animal.

Reanne then remarked: “That’s so cool,” as the red panda, one of four kept by the hotel, crawled across the bed and sniffed the camera.

Footage has also been posted by Chinese guests on the country’s popular social media site Douyin.

Hotel staff have said how long the creatures stay in a guest’s room “depended on the red panda’s mood that day,” according to a report by China Newsweek.

The Global Times, a communist party newspaper, though has put out a severe warning that the practice could be in breach of animal rights.

The hotel has responded to concerns over the treatment of the red pandas possibly being unhygienic or dangerous to children by saying the animals were all vaccinated and children had to be accompanied by an adult.

Red pandas are currently listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and estimates say there are less than 10,000 living in the wild.

Despite their name they are not closely related to the larger black and white giant pandas which live in the same region of China.

Red pandas are part of the extended raccoon family.

Before a ban was introduced in 2018, close contact with giant pandas, including photographs with cubs, was common practice.

The Liangjiang Hotel appears to have swerved prosecution due to the fact red pandas are not technically in the giant panda family.

It comes after one savvy shopper was left beaming after browsing the aisles in her local Home Bargains, when she spotted the brand new 5-Piece Kids’ Travel Set on shelves.

Thrilled with her affordable find, Catherine Jacinto Dela Cruz took to social media to alert others to the purse-friendly set, leaving many totally stunned.

Posting on BARGAIN LOVERS Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M, Primark, The Range & More, a public Facebook group with 852,000 members, Catherine uploaded a snap of her find and beamed: “Kids’ travel set spotted at Home Bargains.”

Thanks to this epic five-piece set, you’ll get a carry-on bag, a backpack and a lunch bag.

But that’s not all, as it’s also complete with a travel pillow and a zip pouch.

The carry-on bag and backpacks are perfect for packing your little one’s clothes and holiday essentials.

Holiday packing tips

Jemma Solomon, aka The Label Lady has got 5 packing tips to help you get organised for your next holiday.

1. Write a list

Think about all the essentials you need to take with you; suncream, medicine, a few games for the kids, beach towels, and write everything in one list, which you can tick off as you add it to your suitcase.

Or for complete ease, try Google’s AI app – Gemini – which will create a list for you and help you not over pack.

2. Involve your kids

Jemma said: “My girls are getting older, they’re 11 and nine, and they enjoy helping to pack. So I send them a list, and say ‘this is what you need’ and they follow the list.

“And then I give them a rucksack each – and say to them ‘you can have whatever you want in there as long as it’s not liquid’, and they can take that on the plane. And that’s their ‘home away from home’ items.”

3. Try a hack or two

She said: “I think they all work, but for different reasons – and you’ve just got to pick the right one for your trip.

“Rolling your clothes is really good to stop your clothes from getting creases. And if you’re trying to get a lot of items into your case, it’s a space saver.

“Packing cubes are great – for example, I’m going on holiday with my three kids and we’re all using the same suitcase for our clothes.

“These handy compartments let you separate your clothes, toiletries and tech into designated cubes, maximising luggage space by keeping your items compressed and neatly stacked.

“I love taking them abroad with the family and it means my kids can easily take charge of their own items once we’ve arrived.”

4. Decant beauty products

Do you really need to take full-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner with you? The beauty industry has evolved so much, you can now buy shampoo bars or sheets – which are much lighter and smaller.

Or, if you’ll be popping to the shops when you’re abroad, consider buying some items when you arrive.

5. Get organised before you come home

Jemma said: “When you repack on holiday [before coming home], the trick is to separate clean from dirty clothes.

“Also pack it in some form of order – so lights, darks, colours for items that need washing, or if you wash your clothes by person in the household, piles for each person.

“Then you can put it straight into the washing machine. Do it straight away, don’t leave it.”

And it’s clear that Facebook users were left beaming with the high-street find, as Catherine’s post has quickly racked up 121 likes and 72 comments.

One person said: “I got one of them for my son and he loved it.”

I want these for the kids!

Another added: “That looks good.”

Meanwhile, a third tagged a friend and commented: “If you see this, let me know.”

Not only this, but one parent mentioned a loved one and beamed: “I want these for the kids!”

How to wash your pillow to kill bacteria & keep them fluffy in hot weather with 35p hack

WHILE you likely wash your bedding regularly, chances are you aren’t cleaning your pillow often enough.

A budget-friendly hack can help to kill bacteria and leave your pillow feeling fluffier than ever in the hot weather.

A cleaning expert revealed the budget ingredient she uses to wash her pillows (stock image)[/caption]

Experts recommend washing your pillows a few times a year as they can accumulate everything from sweat and oils to dead skin cells and dust mites.

And with the current bout of scorching weather, now is an ideal time to give them a freshen up.

TikTok user Anna Louisa (@anna_louisa_at_home) shared the tip with her followers, revealing the budget item she uses to fully tackle bacteria.

She explained that someone told her “half the weight of people’s pillows is dead skin cells”.

The reason why your pillow may be getting heavier over time recently shocked This Morning viewers.

And while the statistics of bacteria on pillows varies by case, this was still enough to kick the cleaning pro into action.

“Apparently pillows should be washed at least [every] three to six months to keep them fresh and free of bacteria, skin cells, dirt, oil, and dust mites,” she told her followers.

She shared her go-to method for anyone who was also inspired to take immediate action.

Anna recommended keeping your pillows in a pillowcase or pillow protector when putting in the washing machine.

She explained that this can help to protect them during the cycle and avoid ripping.

To keep the washing machine balanced and guarantee an all-round clean, the TikToker suggested only washing two pillows at a time.

For the best results, Anna advised her audience to select a delicate or gentle cycle when washing.

She also suggested using a small amount of normal detergent and replacing fabric conditioner with vinegar to “make your pillows fluffy and to neutralise any odours”.

You can pick up a bottle of distilled vinegar for just 35p from Tesco.

And you can even speed up the drying process by adding an extra spin to the washing cycle.

Laundry tips

Catherine Green, sustainable cleaning expert at smol shared her laundry tips.

How often should you be remaking your bed?

When it comes to your bed, maintaining a hygienic sleep setup can actually improve your sleep quality, helping you start every day better.

Most people shed 500 million skin cells per day and a lot of that ends up in bed for dust mites to feed on. And those with asthma or allergies might see symptoms worsen by sleeping on dirty sheets!

You want to be washing your sheets once a week – or every 10 days if you don’t suffer from allergies and wear nightclothes. Bedding builds up with sweat, skin cells and oils quickly, even if it doesn’t look dirty.

Using an effective detergent like smol’s will still give you a great clean on a 20°C cycle – that’s better for the planet and your energy bills!

What temperature do smol recommend then?

For your regular weekly washes I recommend washing most loads at 20°C for 30 minutes. It’s gentler on fabrics, slashes energy use, and still delivers excellent stain removal with the right detergent. A colder wash can actually be more effective if you opt for a bio detergent as its enzymes need cooler water; too hot and they lose their ability to digest stains. A wash at 60°c (unless you have silk sheets) every now and again can help kill off dust mites and other nasties.

What’s the difference between bio and non-bio detergent?

Bio detergents contain enzymes, which are especially good at breaking down tough stains like food, grass, or sweat. It’s best used in mid to low temperature washes (ideally between 20-40°C) as anything hotter can cause them not to work effectively.

Non-bio skips the enzymes, which in turn makes it more suitable for those with sensitive skin or allergies. Although non-bio doesn’t contain enzymes, it’s still great at removing stains and keeping your clothes clean, you just may need to use a slightly higher temperature setting to aid with the cleaning process.

Make sure you allow the pillows time to fully dry to avoid any bacteria or mould growing.

And remember to always check your pillow’s care label and follow the directions accordingly when it comes to washing and drying.

According to Anna, most pillows can be washed in the washing machine using this method, including scatter cushions.

A laundry expert revealed the top ways to wash each type of pillow at home.

There is also a step-by-step guide available for washing your pillows and duvets.

Or you can opt to wash your pillows without putting them in your machine.

Stunning star of 90s album cover lived very wild life after iconic snap – would you recognise her now?

THE sexy nurse trope is hardly original but this stunning porn star’s take on the theme is the thing of punk rock legend.

Blink 182’s 1999 hit album Enema of the State was one of the decade’s most recognisable pieces of cover art.

The American punk group, renowned for their fart gags, pop parodies and power chords, drafted in Janine Lindemulder, 55, to take centre stage on their second LP.

The adult actress – whose work the band were not aware of at the time of her casting – wore a white hat adorned with a red cross, a white shirt left open to tease her red bra, and knowingly pulled her hand into a blue latex glove as her heavily made-up face smiled at the camera.

On the back cover, band members Tom DeLonge, Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus stood nervously in front of her wearing nothing but boxer shorts.

Between the imagery and the album title, subtlety went out of the window.

Originally, the album was due to be called Turn Around and Cough, which photographer David Goldman said inspired the now legendary images.

Unsurprisingly, there was controversy around picture. The Red Cross demanded the band remove the emblem from Janine’s hat as it broke the Geneva Convention. It was subsequently changed to the letter B.

The album was a huge success, selling over 15 million copies worldwide and catapulting the band to the big leagues.

Singles What’s My Age Again?, All The Small Things and Adam’s Song received heavy radio play and are synonymous with the era to this day.

After the album’s release, mum-of-two Janine’s life took a very different turn, temporarily at least.

She quit the porn industry the same year to become a primary school teacher.

Despite distancing herself from blue movies, she was inducted into the industry’s hall of fame in 2022.

And two years after that, the lure of a big money industry return proved too and she mounted a comeback, performing with men for the first time in her porn career.

Janine’s comeback coincided with her divorce from West Coast Choppers star Jesse James, who would later marry A-list actress Sandra Bullock.

That short-lived marriage wasn’t her first celebrity romance. She famously featured in a homemade sex tape with Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil in 1998.

James and Janine found themselves locked in a bitter custody battle in 2009 after she was released from prison having served six months for a $300k tax evasion.

Despite knowing she owed the huge sum, she splashed out more than $600k on a new home and two cars instead of paying back the debt.

James was granted custody of their daughter Sunny, then five, while Janine was locked up.

Following her release, she unsuccessfully challenged the arrangement, which saw her receive weekly visitation rights.

At the time, James and Bullock argued Janine wasn’t always in the right condition to look after Sunny, and they found themselves on ‘high alert’.

Janine argued that her drug use was a thing of the past and told ABC News: “Sandy doesn’t know what goes on in my house. I’d love for her to. Please come over, you know, I’ll make dinner, you know, let’s sit down, [as] two women.”

James divorced Bullock in 2010 and has since married twice more. The dad-of-four most recently tied the knot to porn actress and fifth wife Bonnie Rotten in 2022.

While Janine divorced her third husband, Jeremy Aikman, in 2010 after just one year together.

She became an early adopter of OnlyFans, putting out her own content in 2017. She still releases sexy online content to this day, stripping down to her underwear for a monthly subscription of $9.99.

Beloved school in Irish village closes for good after 101 years as last-ever two pupils leave on ‘very sad day’

A HISTORIC Irish primary school which has been open for 101 years will be forced to close today after its number of pupils dwindled to just two.

St Oliver’s national school in Stonetown, Dundalk, Co Louth is set to close its doors after the school’s only sixth class student graduates.

Barry said his children will miss the school[/caption]

Barry Og O’Brien, 11, will start post-primary school in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan in September while his younger sister Sheila, 7, will enrol in second class in the nearby school in Louth Village.

Father of the two students, Barry, said he is saddened to see a school with such history in the parish close.

Originally from Lisdoo, Barry and his wife Majella moved to the parish 21 years ago and four of his seven children were educated at Stonetown.

Barry said: “When we moved three of our children were already settled in school in Dundalk so we left them there but our youngest four all completed their education at Stonetown and were very happy there.

“Hundreds of past pupils attended the 100th year anniversary celebrations last year and shared so many wonderful and cherished memories of their time here.

“Over the years, the numbers just dropped off until my two children were the last pupils in the school last September.

“We did approach all the politicians for help and Peter Fitzpatrick did try and help by organising a meeting with the then education Minister Norma Foley.”

He continued: “We thought maybe we could get students bussed out from areas in Dundalk but unfortunately, the general elections were called and that was that.

“Peter retired from politics and the education ministry changed.

“None of my children ever missed a day at Stonetown School and they left every morning and came home every afternoon with smiles on their faces. They were very happy there.

‘WILL MISS THEIR SCHOOL’

“Barry Og and Sheila will miss the school but they are happy to go to a new school with more students and new friends.

“I know the school couldn’t carry on without students but I know it was a hard decision to be made to close it and it is a very sad day for the area.”

In a statement the Department of Education and Youth said: “The decision-making authority for a school closure is the patron of that school.

“Any proposal to close a school must involve consultation with all of the relevant stakeholders, parents, teachers, students and local communities and follow decisions taken at local level.

“A proposed closure is then subject to the agreement of the Department of Education and Youth.

“The Patron of Stonetown National School, Dundalk, Co Louth (roll number 16431Q) requested the closure of the school at the end of the current school year and the Department has agreed to this request. Where a decision is made to close a school, all relevant teachers are redeployed in time for the new school year.”
