Andy Murray reveals next career move and reveals he will snub ‘harmful’ new role

ANDY MURRAY is loath to step into TV punditry work just yet – as he does not want to annoy Jack Draper with his words.

Muzza, 38, hated it when he was playing and former British tennis stars, some who had nowhere near his same level of ability or talent, gave him advice.

The 38-year-old retired from tennis last year after a two-decade career[/caption]

Now retired and at a loose end following the dissolution of his coaching gig with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, the Scotsman could earn decent money working for the BBC.

The two-time Wimbledon singles champion is conscious of appearing in front of millions and saying something that current British No.1 Draper, 23, disagrees with.

Asked by GQ magazine if he feels the need to stay in the public eye, Murray replied: “I’m not thinking daily that I need to tweet something or somehow remain relevant.

“That’s why I’m much more interested in the idea of coaching because I feel like I’d actually really be helping someone.

“Whereas with punditry, it can be harmful. If I go and work at, let’s say Wimbledon, you start getting asked questions about British players like Jack Draper.

“I know when the British ex–tennis players would talk about my tennis and what I should be doing.

“Because you respect them, you listen to what they’re saying – but it’s not always the same as what your coach is telling you.

“What the pundits are saying could be wrong.

“They’re not right all the time, and when you’re young, it’s quite conflicting.

“So I’d be more inclined to do coaching, because I think punditry is quite an easy gig.

“You can just throw stuff out there.

People love it if it’s a bit controversial, but you don’t actually have any skin in the game.”

BBC’s Wimbledon TV comms team will be revealed on Monday.

Wimbledon hiking price of iconic strawberries and cream for first time in 15 YEARS

WIMBLEDON bosses have hiked the price of their famous strawberries and cream for the first time in 15 YEARS.

Since 2010, the price of the sweet treat at the All England Club had been set in stone at £2.50.

However, after a decade and a half, the SW19 chiefs broke the trend by increasing the price ahead of this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

Patrons will now have to pay £2.70 – a 20p increase.

A Wimbledon spokesperson said: “We have taken the decision to slightly increase the price of strawberries this year from £2.50 to £2.70.

“We feel that this modest increase still ensures that our world-famous strawberries are available at a very reasonable price.”

In the same time Wimbledon had frozen their prices, by comparison, average UK grocery costs have increased by around 40 per cent.

The historic item has been a staple at Wimbledon since its inception in 1877.

Around 140,000 punnets of them are sold each year, meaning the new price will bring in an extra £28,000 for the club.

Despite the increase, Wimbledon has reaffirmed its commitment to being accessible to all by continuing the tradition of allowing fans to bring in their own food and drink, including alcohol.

The tournament proper is scheduled to start on June 30 this year and run through to July 13.

French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz will be looking to become only the fourth men’s singles player in the Open Era to win Wimbledon three times in a row.

The only others to achieve the feat are Roger Federer, five in a row between 2003 and 2007, Pete Sampras, twice from 1993 to 1995 and again from 1998 to 2000 and Björn Borg, also five between 1976 and 1980.

The 22-year-old will also be looking to eclipse two-time winner Rafael Nadal as the most successful Spanish player in the competition’s history.

Defending women’s singles champion, Barbora Krejčíková, hadn’t played for five months before April due to injury.

However, 29-year-old Czech star has returned to the court and appeared at Queens earlier this month, where she was eliminated in the opening round.

MEGHAN Markle is showing some bottle after launching a Californian wine.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has added Rosé wine to her range of As ever products – which is her first alcoholic beverage.

The 2023 pink booze from Napa Valley, California, will be sold via her As ever website from July 1.

It has been announced alongside two new spreads now available including a Limited-Edition Orange Blossom Honey for $28 (£20)

And she has also restocked six of the original products including $15 flower sprinkles.

But there is no new raspberry spread available after Meg admitted she may never restock the infamous jam spread.

It comes weeks after Meghan applied to the US Patent and Trademark Office for permission to sell alcoholic beverages earlier this year

As ever claim the new product lines are ‘infused with joy, love and a touch of whimsy’.

Describing the new As ever Rosé they say: “With soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish, this bespoke blend is launching just in time for summer entertaining.”

The wine does not yet have a price but more details are expected before July 1.

The bottle of booze comes with the launch of two new spreads that are now available to buy on As ever website.

They are a $9 Apricot Spread which can be bought in a Keepsake Packaging for $14.

It is described as a “golden-hued Apricot Spread balances a delicate sweetness and a gentle brightness that lets this beautiful stone fruit shine.”

And adds: “Spoon it over yogurt, swipe it onto toast, or nestle it into a cake. Beautifully packaged in our signature glass jar with our emblematic brushed gold lid, this delightful addition to your home is presented in Keepsake Packaging that is crafted to look beautiful on any counter or kitchen shelf.”

There is also a new so-called Limited-Edition Orange Blossom Honey for $28 (£20).

Sorry Meg, celebs selling wine is nothing new

By Helena Nicklin

Kylie Minogue

Kylie’s wine range, which was launched in 2020, includes nine varieties.

However, it is her pretty pink rosé that has been the real superstar.

With more crunchy red fruit and a boggy, metallic tang nowadays, it is not quite the silky, strawberry-scented wine it used to be at the launch, but is still very drinkable for a warm day nonetheless.

Accessible and affordable, the numbers speak for themselves on the popularity of this celebrity offering.

Snoop Dogg

The rapper’s Cali Blanc is a sunshine-fuelled Sauvignon with 12% ABV.

It’s super-commercial but well-executed.

And there is no avoiding which VIP has put his dollars into this vino, with a great big picture of Snoop himself on the label for drinkers to admire – and to add a bit of bling.

It is worth a few extra pence – but a £12 tag is a bit too punchy.

Sarah Jessica Parker

The Sex & The City actress clearly loves a sweeter-than-average Savvy B as her whole range is flamboyantly on the fruity side.

Still, the sugar suits this New Zealand sauvignon.

SJP collaborated with a top Kiwi vineyard to make it, with the celeb reputedly tasting and blending each new vintage of wine herself.

It has a lower-than-average 7% ABV, so it is ideal if you are taking it light.

Lower levels also makes it a good daytime choice.

Carrie Bradshaw would approve.

Post Malone

The country superstar and rapper is the big name behind this pastel bottle of plonk.

The Rockstar hit-maker decided to think pink when it came to creating his own wine.

The French contents are made with a mix of grenache, cinsault, shiraz/syrah and merlot, and it is more savoury than some others, with a crunchy cranberry and vine tomato vibe.

But when you sip, the balance is a bit off and the tart factor is high and raspy.

It would be fine if it were a fiver for a bottle.

But it’s not.

Gary Barlow

FOR a man who proclaims himself a lover of music and fine wines, the Take That star’s self-named bottles hit quite a few bum notes.

This unoaked offering is made with a blend of Spanish red grapes from central Castilla.

Although it is competitively priced, it is a rustic plonk and pretty rough around the edges, with baked fruit flavours and a grippy texture – even though it is described as medium bodied.

Less of a wine you will Never Forget, it is more one you won’t want to remember.

Sorry, Gary.

Bon Jovi

ROCKER Jon Bon Jovi did well to partner with a top Langue-doc region winemaker – Gerard Bertrand – in France, alongside his son Jesse, to make this dreamy, satin-like pink.

It screams celebrity pool parties in the fancy US holiday resort of the Hamptons – but there is real substance to it, too.

A constant sell-out whenever it hits UK stores for good reason.

There is no “Le Vin On A Prayer” – this is a famous-name tipple with real taste and quality.

Try a glass and you will be grateful for a bed of these rosés.

As ever say: “Our Orange Blossom Honey, with its beautiful golden hue, an enticing aroma, delicate floral notes, and subtle citrus undertones, is a standout addition to your pantry. Its gentle complexity adds a balanced touch of flavor to everything from morning toast to cheese boards.”

Meg launched her first As ever products on April 2 and her stock sold out within 90 minutes.

She has restocked the $12 Herbal Hibiscus Tea, Herbal Lemon Ginger Tea and Herbal Peppermint Tea along with the $15 Flower Sprinkles, and Crepe Baking Mix and Shortbread Cookie Mix – both for $14.

But there is no new line of her infamous raspberry jam – which is actually a spread.

Some consumers had blasted the spread for being too runny.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed earlier this month she has decided to ‘just pause’ restocking her As Ever brand.

Meghan Markle said she wants to wait until it is ‘completely stable and we have everything we need’ and was trying to avoid being ‘annoying’ to customers.

B&Q shoppers are racing to snap up £10 buy that elevates your garden and instantly adds privacy

B&Q is selling the perfect budget friendly product to elevate your garden and add instant privacy to your outdoors space.

With summer now upon us, and the Met Office predicting a heatwave is “likely” this weekend, many of us are likely planning to spend lots of time relaxing in the garden.

Ornamental grass is great for adding privacy to your garden[/caption]

However, there’s nothing worse than sitting outside with a glass of wine and a good book, only to realise that your nosy neighbour is peeking at you over the fence.

Putting up a large fence around your garden may seem like the obvious choice to keep away prying eyes, but this can be expensive – and can sometimes lead to disagreements with neighbours.

Paul CEO of plants and perennials specialists J. Parker’s revealed that one stylish way of creating privacy in your garden is by planting ornamental grasses.

He said: “Grasses can be used easily to create internal screens or hedges that flower beautifully, move in the slightest breeze, and need little care during the summer months.

“I recommend silvergrass or pampas grass to not only conceal your garden, but to introduce interesting textures.

“Their fast growth rate makes ornamental grasses ideal for privacy hedges because new plants can rapidly fill in any gaps.”

B&Q’s Stipa Pony Tails Ornamental Grass is currently priced at £10.49, making it a perfect solution for penny pinchers.

The height of the plant when you purchase it will be 30-45cm, but ornamental grass can grow up to three metres tall.

The plant is low maintenance, so won’t cause you any stress, plus its feathery plumes will elevate the look of your garden into a stylish haven.

The expert revealed that another handy tip to add privacy to your garden is to cover up fences with evergreen climbers.

He said: “If you want to disguise fences, balcony railings or rooftop spaces, evergreen climbers are a fantastic solution.

“Star Jasmine would be my top choice, it’s a hardy, vigorous grower with glossy evergreen foliage, so it’s the perfect all-year-round cover.

“In summer, it bursts into fragrant, star-shaped flowers that fill your garden with an enticing scent.

“If you don’t have a surface to grow against, create a living fence by planting shrubs or small trees close together to make a natural wall of privacy.

How to create privacy in your garden

CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:

1. Fencing

  • Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.

2. Hedges and Plants

  • Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.

3. Outdoor Curtains

  • Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.

4. Sound Barriers

  • A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.

“Varieties like golden privet hedging or, for a shorter screen, Salix (like Flamingo Willow) are trendy options that work well to cordon off designated areas in your garden.”

Salix, or flamingo trees grow tall and quickly, meaning that they are a popular choice for hiding gardens from prying eyes.

The trees are native to the UK and are popular due to their bright pink foliage, which is a similar shade to the flamboyant birds they are named after.

This makes them perfect for adding a splash of colour to your garden, whilst also ensuring your outdoor space is shrouded from prying eyes.

Shoppers have recently spotted flamingo trees for sale for £13 at Asda.

New £3billion fleet of more than 90 air-conditioned trains promised for the end of 2025 delayed for another YEAR

A HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED fleet of air-conditioned London Underground trains have been delayed by another year.

The new £3 billion tube trains were expected to be in use by the end of the year.

The Piccadilly line is set to see 94 new trains launched by the end of next year (stock image)[/caption]

The launch of the “game-changing” fleet on the Piccadilly line will now be delayed by up to a year, according to The Standard.

This massive blow to London commuters comes after the fleet was revealed to be the first “deep level” Tube trains to be air conditioned.

The eagerly-awaited fleet, which consists of 94 trains, will offer 10% more capacity as well as wider doors for quicker boarding, walk through carriages, and CCTV.

They will replace an “age expired” fleet of older Piccadilly line trains which dates to 1973.

The update will enable peak-hour frequencies to be increased from 24 to 27 trains an hour, and will eventually see 36 trains running each hour, equivalent to the Victoria line.

Transport for London (TFL) originally announced the first new Piccadilly line train would enter passenger service by the end of 2025.

However, TfL publicly confirm on Friday, June 20 that the new trains are now not expected until the “second half of 2026”.

This delay has been caused by unexpected difficulties in introducing the first new train to challenging “real life” conditions on London Underground infrastructure.

The new trains are understood to have performed well on the test track.

While first batch of trains are being built by Siemens in Vienna, Austria, the bulk of the order will be assembled at Siemens’ new factory in Goole, east Yorkshire.

A source told The Standard that the electrical equipment underneath the new trains was “not in the right alignment”.

TfL confirmed on Friday that “the start of a rigorous programme of testing the interactions with the infrastructure and systems is delayed until the summer”.

Part or full closures of the Piccadilly line will continue over the weekends to prepare the stations for the new nine-carriage trains.

Stuart Harvey, TfL’s chief capital officer, who is in charge of the introduction of the new trains, spoke on the latest update.

“It will obviously be disappointing for customers that they will have to wait a bit longer for the new trains, and I regret that,” he said.

Three scenic train journeys you can take in the UK

Cornish Coast – One trip that rail enthusiasts seem to love is along a stretch of the Cornish coast and takes just 10 minutes to complete.

The route from St Erth to St Ives only stops at Carbis Bay en route to its final destination, but the views out the window for the whole journey are pretty spectacular.

Another highlight of the journey is that St Ives station is situated right next to Porthminster beach, meaning the sand and sea can be accessed almost immediately.

Meanwhile, the station is less than a ten minute walk into town, where the harbour, shops, galleries and pubs can be explored.

Durham to Edinburgh – Another train route that people in the UK love is the East Coast train line between Durham and Edinburgh, with coastal views and city landscapes among the sights that can be seen out the window.

Newcastle, Berwick, Lindisfarne and Durham Cathedral are all among the highlights on that route.

Scotland’s West Highland Line – While Scotland is home to plenty of famous landmarks and top attractions, it also has one of the most breathtaking train routes in the world.

Scotland’s West Highland Line has previously been dubbed the best rail journey in the world by Wanderlust – and it’s easy to see why.

The journey from Glasgow to Fort William is one of my favourite train routes – and I’ve interrailed through mainland Europe.

With mountain landscapes, serene lochs, wistful moors, and wildlife all visible through the train window, it’s certainly a route all holidaymakers should consider doing at least once.

“But I would like to assure Londoners and visitors to our city that we are working extremely closely with Siemens to ensure that the new trains can be introduced as soon as possible.”

He estimated that the first fleet will come into operation “in the second half of next year”, with a new “window” set between July and December 2026.

“Siemens and TfL are absolutely focused on trying to achieve the July end of the window,” he said.

“But it’s too early to say we can get that yet.”

He added that the hope is that all 94 trains will be in service “18 to 20 months” after the first one starts running.

This would meaning the entire fleet would be in operation by the end of 2027 or early 2028.

This delay means Underground passengers face an additional summer of soaring temperatures on the Picadilly line.

London Underground Piccadilly Line train arriving at a station.
Alamy
The delay in the new Picadilly trains means passengers will face another summer of commuting with no air conditioning in carriages (stock image)[/caption]

The first new Picadilly train arrived in London last October, and was spotted overnight on Underground tracks in west London in March.

The TFL rep said the new trains would have a “transformative effect” in the capital.

The Piccadilly line connects King’s Cross and the West End with Heathrow airport and beyond and is used for more than 10% of all daily Tube journeys – about 160 million trips a year.

And watch as a TFL driver shows what he gets up to during his work shift.

Plus, the famous voice of the London Underground speaks out after he is set to be replaced by AI.

A busy UK train station is also set to close for a year to undergo a “state-of-the-art” transformation.

Legendary Classic-winning trainer Kevin Prendergast has died aged 92

LEGENDARY flat trainer Kevin Prendergast, who won multiple Classics in Britain and Ireland, has died aged 92.

He took out his licence in 1963 and saddled his final runner at Cork last week, when Glory To Be finished second.

Kevin Prendergast has died aged 92 after a long and successful career
Sportsfile - Subscription

Tributes have poured in for Prendergast, who spent his career in County Kildare and died two weeks short of his 93rd birthday.

Among them was top Irish jockey Chris Hayes, who was stable jockey to Prendergast and rode most of his big winners in recent years including Awtaad, who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas in 2016.

He said: “La Collina was my first Group 1 winner for Kevin, but Awtaad was the first horse that was mine – I inherited La Collina from Declan McDonogh.

“Obviously there were also some great days with Madhmoon who came after Awtaad. But Awtaad’s Guineas was phenomenal.

“It was the old Curragh and the cheer we got on the way in, I haven’t heard one like it since.

“I’ve been around a while and I never heard a cheer like that before that either and that cheer was all for Kevin and solely Kevin. People say it was for us, but it wasn’t, it was for Kevin.

“He’s a legend around Kildare and a legend in the racing game and people were 10 deep around the winner’s enclosure desperate to congratulate him.

“When I got the news this morning I couldn’t help but look back through some pictures from that day in the car. We had some phenomenal times together and today is a sad day.”

Another legendary trainer Dermot Weld, who was great friends with Prendergast, said: “He was a wonderful trainer. His horses were always turned out in supreme condition – you could always identify one of his by the way they were turned out and, even in the early days, they always won the best-turned-out award.

“He was an exceptional trainer of a two-year-old and had great longevity – and he trained a much smaller team of horses than is fashionable nowadays.

“He was a very, very talented trainer and naturally my sympathy goes out to his family.”

Born in Australia on July 5, 1932, Prendergast was educated in Ireland but kicked off his racing career back in the southern hemisphere, where he was head lad to top trainer Frank Dalton.

He held that position for three years before returning home to establish himself as a leading amateur rider while serving as assistant trainer to his father.

After five years, Prendergast decided to strike out on his own in 1963 – and he did not have to wait long for his inaugural success, saddling Zara to win at Phoenix Park in May that year.

Pidget was the first to claim Classic gold for him in the 1972 Irish 1,000 Guineas, before going on to add the Irish St Leger to her tally later on that year.

After that Prendergast sent out the likes of Conor Pass (1973) and Oscar Schindler (1996 and 1997) to win two more Irish Legers, while Arctique Royal gave him another 1,000 win and Northern Treasure gave him a first Irish 2,000 Guineas in 1976.

Add into the mix top-drawer juveniles La Collina, Miss Beatrix, Termagant and Kingsfort and you get a feel for the kind of longevity Prendergast enjoyed.

One of the most consistent trainers in the Irish ranks, Prendergast sent out his 2,000th career winner in 2010.

As well as Hayes, the likes of Gary Halpin and Declan McDonogh also rode for Prendergast, demonstrating that he was not just an exceptional instructor of horses.

The great Kieren Fallon began his riding career with Prendergast, serving as apprentice from 1982 to 1987 before moving on and eventually becoming a six-times champion jockey.

Terence Crawford reveals why Canelo Alvarez fight is biggest in 20 YEARS… and lifts lid on sharing dinner with rival

TERENCE CRAWFORD says he is on the verge of boxing’s greatest fight in 20 YEARS with Canelo Alvarez – after they broke bread over dinner.

The unbeaten American steps up to super-middleweight to challenge Mexico’s undisputed champion on September 13 in Las Vegas.

Three men seated at a long table laden with food.
Terence Crawford shares dinner with Turki Alalshikh and Canelo Alvarez

Crawford compared the bout to boxing’s biggest ever and said: “Over the last 20 years I can definitely say it’s up there.”

UFC boss Dana White will enter the boxing space to promote the fight and Netflix will broadcast.

They debuted in boxing in November when over 100 MILLION watched Jake Paul beat 58-year-old Mike Tyson – causing the stream to crash.

But Crawford – a three-weight world champ with 41 straight wins – says he and 67-fight icon Canelo are the real stars of the show.

He said: “Me and Canelo is the talent without me and Canelo this wouldn’t be happening.

“So me and Canelo are definitely making this event as massive as possible given the work and body of work that he’s put in the sport the body of work that I’ve put in the sport.

“The accomplishments that he has, the accomplishments that I have in the sport.

“So when you look at it, we did this together with the work that he did and the work that I did.”

The mutual respect extended to a dinner together with Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh – a day before their Riyadh launch press conference.

But Crawford promised to leave a bad taste in the ring as he said: “I don’t need no dislike to fight Canelo.

“I don’t need to hate him, I don’t need to dislike him. But come fight night, the dislike and the hatred will be there.”

Canelo has won titles in four divisions and remains the sport’s biggest draw after 20 years as a professional when he started aged 15.

Crawford meanwhile defends his prized undefeated record at the Las Vegas Raiders’ £1BILLION, 65,000-seat stadium.

And he dubbed it the most important fight of his life.

He said: “Everything is up for grabs. Three-time undisputed, three different weight classes, going up two weight divisions.

“Undefeated in the 168 division in Canelo Alvarez. Another all-time great, Hall of Famer in Canelo Alvarez. Everything is on the line in this fight.”

Canelo won back his undisputed throne at 168lb in May with a laboured win over Cuban William Scull, 32, in Saudi.

He faced off afterwards with Crawford, 37, who is yet to return since winning the 154 WBA belt last August against Israil Madrimov, 30.

And the Omaha hero – who has a street named after him in Nebraska – warned the pressure is shared between the superstar pair.

He said: “We both wanna win. I don’t see why it’s less pressure on me. I wanna win, I don’t wanna lose! I’m not gonna lose.

“I want to become undisputed in three weight classes.”

“All Raver Tots festivals sold out last year with no tickets on the door and thousands on the waiting list.

“This year, more than half of all tickets have already gone on the release day – so if you are coming, early purchase is strongly advised.”

Tickets start at £5 for babies, £20 for kids and £25 for adults.

All the music played at the event will be a child-safe sound levels and there will be inclusive spaces for kids to explore, play and rave alongside their grownups.

Raver Tots is the UK’s original family rave and festival.

Each year around 15,000 people head to each event, which all raise money for charities supporting children with autism, ADHD and more.

One former attendee said: “For those of us that felt like our raving days were behind us because we burdened the world with our spawn, Raver Tots is sick.
