Met Eireann pinpoint when heatwave to end with major switch and ‘unsettled’ conditions on cards

MET Eireann chiefs warned there’s a big switch on the way with “unsettled” conditions – as we reach the longest day of the year.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “A little red sky before the sun rises on the longest day of the year and a lovely morning for the summer solstice here at Rathgall Hillfort in Tullow.

“A nice day ahead once again with just a small risk of a shower later.

“Enjoy the longest day and remember for some today marks the start of summer.”

Met Eireann’s Ailis Hankinson told how temperatures peaked at 29.6C yesterday but a major change is in store.

She said: “So yesterday was the hottest day of the year with 29.6C recorded at Mount Dillon in County Roscommon.

“But our weather will be cooler and more unsettled for much of the coming week though it’ll still be warm today.

“And with that keep in mind that the UV index will be high or very high this weekend and if you’re in or near water do stay safe.”

There will be mixed conditions on the cards today but temperatures will remain warm.

Ailish continued: “Today some mist and fog this morning near southern and eastern coasts will clear to leave a mostly dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

“Some scattered showers will develop though mainly in the west turning heavy or thundery at times in the afternoon.

“It’ll be warm with highs of 19C to 25C in light to moderate southwest breezes.”

Tonight will be “mostly dry with clear spells and some scattered showers”, they will be heaviest in the north.

Tomorrow will bring a mix of sunshine and cloud cover.

The forecaster said: “Cloud and outbreaks of rain will build from the west towards morning. “It’ll be mild with lows of 12C to 15C in light to moderate southeast breezes becoming fresh at times along Atlantic coasts.

“Tomorrow Sunday we’ll see cloud and outbreaks of rain clear eastwards through the morning and early afternoon with sunny spells and showers following.

“Further outbreaks of rain will feed into the west and north though in the evening with the south seeing most of the dry and sunny weather.

“Cooler and breezier than recent days with highs of 15 to 19 degrees in a moderate westerly wind.”

Monday will see a “cloudy and breezier” start with some isolated showers.

Ailish said: “Cloud will thicken further during the afternoon especially over the southern half of the country with rain following in the evening. Driest in the north with some evening sunny spells possible.

“Highs of 15C to 19C generally though a little milder in parts of the south and southeast.”

The meteorologist warned there’s some uncertainty for our weather mid week.

She added: “Then I’m afraid it looks like it’ll continue unsettled through the rest of the working week with spells of rain and showers – becoming breezy or rather windy at times too.

“But for today on this summer solstice, warm with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, scattered showers will occur mainly over the western half of the country with highs of 19C to 25C.”

How to find the perfect DD+ dress for summer

Looking for the perfect summer dress to fit your bigger bust? Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale has the perfect solution.

Looking for the perfect summer dress to fit your bigger bust? Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale has the perfect solution.

Finding a dress that flatters your bigger bust can be hard, often dresses can leave your bra showing, squash your bust and just be ill fitting in general.

However, there are a few things you can look out for that will make dress shopping easier.

A V-neck is a really flattering neckline as it gives your chest some more space, however, don’t discount a square neck also, not only is this a trendy neckline, but will also give your bust the room it needs.

Empire line fits are also super flattering, you just need to make sure they fall underneath the bottom of your bra, that way your bust will sit nicely before the rest of the dress skims your body.

Wrap style dresses are also a great option but just make sure to look for an added popper detail, so that you don’t have to use a safety pin to hold the dress in place and stop your bra from showing.

Extra shirring detail on the back will also give the dress more room for stretch around your chest.

And if you’re looking for a backless dress then make sure there is one with a tie detail at the back that means you can still wear a bra.

If all that sounds like something you’re interested in then here at Fabulous we have created a collection specifically designed for DD+ boobs that ticks all of these boxes.

I tried a 11p Amazon buy that promises you’ll never sweat out of your armpits again

NOW that the temperatures in the UK are finally rising, there’s one thing many of us dread: sweat patches.

They are those uncontrollable annoying damp circles under the arms – that no matter how much deodorant you put on, can not be avoided.

She has tried tonnes of different hacks to prevent sweat patches on the armpits[/caption]

Whether it’s a casual coffee with friends, a day out in the sunshine, or a high-stakes work meeting, visible sweat marks can leave you feeling self-conscious and desperate to cover up.

I’ve tried everything in the past to combat this – from strong antiperspirants to breathable fabrics – but nothing seemed to truly solve the problem, especially on those warmer days when sweat patches seem inevitable.

So, I decided to do a little research, convinced there must be a hack out there to help tackle this frustrating issue.

After all, we live in the 21st century, where there are brilliant inventions like portable washing machines and self-cleaning gadgets.

Naturally, my first stop was TikTok, where I stumbled across the trending hashtag #sweatpatches.

That’s when I discovered a solution that’s surprisingly simple yet completely effective: Armpit Sweat Pads from Amazon, priced at just £4.59 for a pack of 40.

This works out to be around 11p per pad.

These pads are designed for everyone – men, women, and even children – and are perfect for a variety of situations, from commuting on the tube to exercising, giving speeches, or just enjoying a hot summer’s day.

They promise to absorb sweat, lock in moisture, and keep your underarms dry for up to six to eight hours.

On top of that, they help prevent those dreaded yellow stains on your favourite tops, which, as we all know, are nearly impossible to get out.

Using them is easy: you simply peel off the plastic backing and stick the adhesive side onto the armpit area of your top, leaving the padded side to absorb the sweat.

At first, I was sceptical, but desperate enough to give them a try – and to my pleasant surprise, they actually worked.

Despite a particularly sweaty day, my top stayed completely dry, and the pads themselves felt so comfortable that I forgot I was even wearing them.

I kept checking throughout the day, expecting them to fail, but they didn’t. The pad itself even stayed dry to the touch.

Discreet padding

What really impressed me was how discreet they were.

They didn’t leave any marks on my clothes or arms, and at the end of the day, I barely noticed they were still there – a testament to how lightweight and comfortable they are.

I could stretch my arms, dance, socialise, and go about my day without worrying about embarrassing sweat patches.

The only minor challenge is getting the positioning right when you first apply them, but after a couple of tries, it becomes second nature.

For just £4.59, these disposable sweat pads are an absolute game-changer.

They’re ultra-thin, incredibly effective, and suitable for both sports and daily wear.

If you, like me, have been battling the dreaded sweat patches and pit stains, I can’t recommend these enough.

They’ve quickly become a staple in my summer survival kit, and I’ll definitely be stocking up for the warmer months ahead.

How to dress in a heatwave

SUMMER is finally here with temperatures soaring this weekend, but it has been so long since we dressed for the warmer weather - what should we wear? The Sun’s fashion team is here to help with a cut-out-and-keep guide to heatwave attire.

Clemmie Fieldsend and Abby McHale reveal the ultimate dos and don’ts so that you never suffer from unsightly tan lines, sweaty patches or wardrobe malfunctions again.

Cover up
While you might be tempted to put on your skimpiest outfit when the mercury rises above 25C, it has actually been proven that staying covered up can keep you cooler.
We’re not saying wear your winter coat and wrap up. You should wear a light breathable fabric such as cotton – look for flowy midi skirts, dresses or wide leg trousers which will billow and create a nice cool breeze for you as you walk.

Prepare for extremes
With our unpredictable weather, it’s not uncommon to see either someone in hotpants with goose-pimpled legs after an unexpected downpour, or at the other end of the spectrum, someone still wearing their winter tights in 30C heat. When you’re on the fence, opt for a loose co-ord that will keep you cool but not expose you to the elements if it rains.

Wear shorts
Yes, you can wear shorts – and at any age. The key is getting the length just right and longer shorts are all the rage this year. Short shorts are of course allowed but they won’t make you any cooler. If anything, micro-shorts can make you feel hotter. Plus, they are wedgie inducing, often too tight and often show off rather too much bum cheek.

Wear white
White is not the easiest to keep clean but it is the best shade for a heatwave, and looks effortlessly chic. It doesn’t absorb light like black but instead, reflects it. It’s also a shade that never goes out of style. If you do get the odd suncream smear on your whites, quickly dab with hand soap and water, rub in with a brush and then wash as normal.

Don’t show bra straps
Whilst everyone wants to wear strappy clothing in the summer, there really is nothing classy about your bra straps being on show – especially when they’re the opposite colour to your top. Instead, if you are plumping for a strappy top, stick a strapless bra underneath.

Don’t attempt a boob tube
The boob tube has got to be one of the most faffy and unflattering pieces of clothing you can own. Yes, you will avoid shoulder strap tan lines, but you will spend the whole day pulling your top up and trying to keep your boobs in place. Come evening, you will have grubby fingerprints all over and will have no doubt experienced the odd nip slip.

Don’t choose espadrilles
Espadrille wedges were once Kate Middleton’s go-to summer shoe but they have well and truly fallen off the fashion wagon. While noughties ballet flats are back, the espadrille is yet to have its revival. It’s one of those fashion items that Gen Z won’t be seen dead in, and have even dubbed ‘the granny sandal’. For now, opt for a ballet flat or a sandal.

Don’t wear crochet
The crochet trend is nice enough and while it looks great on the likes of Love Island presenter Maya Jama, it’s simply not practical. If the sun is out, chances are, you’ll end up with tragic tan lines like a mosaic. Plus, it’s essentially knitwear – hot and itchy. For men, knitted polos have also crept into the fashion fold, masquerading as summer wear but they are made from synthetic materials and induce swear. Wear at your own risk.

I’m TV’s Queen of Clean & swear by 1p Tesco bargain to stop your bins from smelling in hot weather

The QUEEN of Clean has revealed the 1p Tesco hack she swears by to stop your bin from stinking during hot weather.

Britain has been baking in blistering heat this week, with the Met Office predicting sunny days to be twice as likely as usual this summer.

Lynsey said the hack stops bins from stinking[/caption]

And whilst the hot weather is a welcome treat for tan-happy Brits, it also comes with its fair share of downsides.

Balmy temperatures can often lead to household bins smelling, as leftover foods decompose quicker, leading to unpleasant odours.

Thankfully, Lynsey Crombie, known for her appearances on ITV’s This Morning has revealed that you can banish unwanted stenches from your bin simply by using a 1p hack.

The Queen of Clean revealed that she relies on Cif Infinite All in One Cleaner Spray to carry out the essential household task.

“A spray under the lid and around the rim helps tackle bad smells, fast”, the cleaning whizz revealed.

The Cif product is currently on sale at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose for £4 for a 280 ml bottle.

According to Cif, each bottle contains 2800 sprays, meaning that each spray costs just 1p.

And it’s not only bins that can be cleaned with the budget-friendly cleaning spray.

Lynsey also relies on the spray to clean her toilet lid, seat and base.

“It’s easy to forget the bits you don’t see – like the base of your loo”, she said.

“A quick spray around the seat, lid and base gives a hygienic clean that keeps working long after you flush.”

The spray is also perfect for giving your smelly car a quick refresh.

“Car smelling a bit… lived in?”, Lynsey said.

“Lightly mist the seats or floor mats to cut through odours (always spot-test first!).

10 Grossest Areas People Forget to Clean

By Danielle Mason, who has 20 years of experience

Under and Behind the Fridge
Crumbs, dust, and spills accumulate over time, attracting pests and creating bad odours.

Shower Curtain & Liner
These collect mildew and soap scum but are often overlooked. Wash or replace them regularly to keep your bathroom fresh.

Toothbrush Holder
One of the germiest places in the bathroom, filled with bacteria and toothpaste residue. Rinse and disinfect it weekly.

Dishwasher Filter
Food particles and grease build up, leading to unpleasant smells and reduced efficiency. Remove and clean the filter every few weeks.

Washing Machine Seal
The rubber gasket traps mould, mildew, and detergent buildup. Wipe it down with white vinegar and leave the door open to air dry.

Light Switches and Remote Controls
Touched daily but rarely cleaned, making them germ hotspots. Wipe them down with disinfectant regularly.

Under the Sofa Cushions
Crumbs, dust, and even lost items hide in the cracks. Remove the cushions and vacuum thoroughly.

Kitchen Sink & Plughole
Food residue builds up, causing bad odours. Pour boiling water, bicarbonate of soda, and vinegar down the drain to freshen it.

Ceiling Fans
Dust piles up on the blades and gets redistributed into the air when turned on. Use a microfibre cloth or pillowcase to clean them easily.

Doormats
They trap dirt and bacteria from shoes but are rarely washed or vacuumed. Shake them out weekly and deep clean them every month.

Head to her Instagram pages for more cleaning information @missmasoncleaning @daniellemasonuk

“It leaves a fresh, clean scent without any scrubbing.”

And Lynsey also swears by the cleaning spray for keeping bathroom taps and chrome fixtures sparkling.

“This spray brings back the shine to taps, shower heads and metal handles.

“Say goodbye to water spots and fingerprints!”

Finally, the cleaning pro explained that the spray is her secret weapon for the family sofa.

“Fabric sofas take a lot of daily wear”, she said.

“Between deep cleans, you can mist over cushions to keep things fresh and inviting.”

The former Porto and Spurs boss has inked a new three-year deal at the City Ground, although you wouldn’t have known it if you looked at the Midlands club’s website.

He said: “I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football Club.

“Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the Club, which helped us achieve great things last season.

Why you should be turning your fans around this weekend to survive the soaring temperatures – never point them at you

WITH temperatures soaring across the UK this weekend, many of us will be reaching for our fans for some relief from the hot weather.

However, according to some experts many of us have been using our cooling devices all wrong causing them to become less efficient and cost us more.

Directing your fan at you is the worst way to cool down according to experts[/caption]

Here, energy-efficiency experts Green Improve reveal a simple heatwave hack that will save people money this summer.

Electric fans may make rooms feel warmer when used incorrectly.

Rather than positioning them inwards where they circulate hot air within rooms, fans should be directed towards windows to blow hot air outside during a heatwave.

Daniel McCowan, Director of Green Improve Ltd, also says that Brits should be ‘strategic’ when it comes to opening windows.

“UK homes are designed to retain heat,” says Daniel.

“By opening windows during a heatwave, people trap hot air inside the home and worsen the situation.”

By strategically opening windows during cooler periods, Brits can avoid overheating and save money on their electricity bills this week.

Daniel says windows and curtains should remain closed during the hottest hours, which are usually between 10 am and 4 pm.

They can then be opened during cooler evening periods to allow heat to escape and fresh air to circulate.

If someone opens their windows and allows excess heat into the home, they’re more likely to rely on expensive electric fans to cool down.

“Electric fans are an unnecessary expense during a heatwave,” McCowan adds.

“For example, running a 200W fan for 8 hours every night from May through August could add around £53.21 to electricity bills in the UK.”

How to keep cool in hot weather

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS...

Keep out of the heat if you can.

If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Cool yourself down.

Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

Keep your living space cool.

Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.
