Moment carer throws dementia-stricken man, 88, around ‘like a rag doll’ & threatens to ‘beat him up’ before his death

This is the shocking moment a carer “violently degrades” a frail elderly man with dementia just days before he died.

Cruel Bilikesu Olagunju, 42, was caught on CCTV manhandling the pensioner like a “rag doll” in his own home in Bexley, Kent.

Disturbing footage, captured on Christmas Eve in 2022, shows 88-year-old John Attard being stripped naked and dragged across his living room floor during a horrifying 45 minute visit.

Woolwich Crown Court heard Olagunju, who was employed by Unique Personnel (Ltd) UK at the time, threatened to beat John up and ignored him as he repeatedly told her she was “hurting” him.

At one point she tells him: “Maybe I will beat you up. I will flog you.

“I will take you to the GP to get injections. I will call the police on you.”

The following day, Mr Attard was found unresponsive – with blood dripping down the side of his face.

The pensioner was rushed to hospital, where he remained unresponsive, and tragically died ten days after the incident.

The horrific ordeal – that his family say he never recovered from – was captured on a camera set up by the great grandfather’s son, Chris.

She goes on to taunt Mr Attard in the footage by pouring marmalade into his coffee despite knowing he was diabetic and threatening to ‘flog’ him – a slang term for ‘beating him up.’

Chris told he was horrified by how visibly distressed his dad looked throughout the ordeal and described his face as “distorted” as he was being “manhandled.”

Chris said: “She is physically trying to lift him like a rag doll. His face indicates the discomfort and pain he is feeling.

“She lifts him off the floor, dragging him toward his armchair. He tells her ‘my head is banging’.”

The carer is repeatedly told by John throughout: “You are hurting me”.

The court also heard a breakdown of the footage, that starts when Olagunju arrives at 11.20am with the job of washing him and making him some breakfast.

After shouting at him to stand, he slips on the floor and as she struggles to dress him, she is seen stripping him naked in front of a window in full view of the street.

The carer is also seen dragging him by the arm and scruff of his collar across the floor and “yanking” him up, causing him “great distress”.

At one point, the defendant is heard calling her employer to explain that John was on the floor.

She was advised not to touch him and to call an ambulance.

The defendant ignores this request, and instead continued to yank John up herself while complaining “a man” should have been sent to do the job.

Olagunju is shown making breakfast as she continues to threaten violence.

She picks up a plastic marmalade sachet and squeezes its entire contents into his coffee.

John’s table is then pulled away from him, making it hard for him to reach any of the food and spilling hot coffee on him in the process.

As she leaves the house, she tells him, “Bye, I will report you to the police”.

Disturbing footage captured on Christmas Eve in 2022 shows the horrific 45 minute ordeal[/caption]

During Olagunju’s sentencing, Prosecutor James Benson said her conduct towards Mr Attard had taken multiple forms including “rough handling, verbal aggression, and degrading treatment.”

Chris said the the following day, Christmas morning, he found his father unresponsive with blood on his lips.

He added: “I called 999 for an ambulance.

“My wife and I were distraught at his condition and felt the carer’s actions were solely responsible for this.

“The autopsy could not conclusively prove the carer was responsible.

“But the autopsy showed he had bruising on the left side of his chest.”

During the sentencing hearing, Mr Benson described her actions as “brusque, inappropriate, and uncaring” and said she “played on her victim’s vulnerability”.

Woolwich Crown Court also heard a victim impact statement from Chris, who broke down in tears.

He added: “It was Christmas morning when I found my 88-year-old father unresponsive in bed.

“He was rushed to hospital and his room was declared a crime scene.

“This was the morning after he was physically and verbally assaulted by the very person entrusted to care for him.

“Three days after he was admitted to hospital I wrote a victim impact statement. My last words read: ‘I am yet to discover the long-term effect this may have on my dad, and his physical and mental welfare’.

“Well, now I know – he never recovered and died seven days later in hospital.

“An autopsy could not link your actions to his death – but I feel personally that your actions contributed to his sudden death”.

Addressing Olagunju, Chris continued: “When all of this becomes a distant memory for you, our pain will still be here.

“You can never ever take back the memories you left my father with at the end of his life, and the memories you have now left us with, for the rest of our lives.

“If you find it hard to understand how I feel, then just imagine it was me assaulting your loved one on that CCTV.

“Imagine I’m the one standing where you are now – what sentence would you like this court to give me?”

“For a very long time I was unable to get a full night’s sleep due to dissecting the CCTV over-and-over again in my head.

“I constantly thought about the fear he must have felt – the indignity of being dragged around and then yanked up off the floor and unceremoniously thrown back onto his chair.

“That must have been very distressing for him.”

Chris described his father, who had five children, 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, as “kind-hearted, generous, compassionate, and funny”.

“He was still enjoying what life he had left,” Chris added.

Olagunju, of Abbey Wood, wearing a light blue satin shirt and jeans, cried silently during the emotional statement.

Chris, pictured with his late father, blasted the lenient sentence as an ‘insult’[/caption]

John was her first assignment as a care worker in the UK.

During sentencing, Judge Charlotte Welsh told her: “Frankly it beggars belief that someone would be allocated an elderly man with dementia as their first client.

“Being a carer is a very, very difficult job and frankly people don’t appreciate it until they need it.

“I am convinced that you had not received the sufficient training.”

“Your actions are evident of your failure to treat Mr Attard as a person deserving of as much dignity and respect as the rest of us.

“I accept that there was no malicious intent to your actions and you show genuine remorse. But none of this will help Mr Attard’s family.

“They have lost a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and their memories of him are now tainted by what they have seen on the CCTV footage – and the way you behaved towards him.”

Olagunju’s defence barrister Mr Tijani said she accepted full responsibility for her conduct and was “ashamed” of how she had acted.

He continued: “She accepts that she failed in her duty as a carer.

“She has been suffering from mental anguish as a result of this incident and has instructed me to tell the family she is very sorry.”

In mitigation, Mr Tijani said Olagunju had no previous convictions and that Mr Attard had been her first patient, after arriving in the UK from abroad to be a carer.

“On the CCTV, you can see a woman who was not trained properly to deal with the situation she was faced with,” Mr Tijani added.

Chris added that he wanted to expose her company, Unique Personnel[/caption]

Olagunju pleaded guilty to one count of ill-treating or willfully neglecting an individual whilst acting as a care worker.

She was given a six week sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with 50 hours unpaid work, at Woolwich Crown Court.

Speaking after the hearing, Chris, who blasted the lenient sentence as an “insult”.

He fumed: “If those cameras had not been there, that person could still be out there treating elderly people like this.

“I was expecting a suspended sentence but the length and community service aspect is an insult.

“What kind of a deterrent is that?”

He added: “From now on that woman is out of my head, and my mission is to expose this company – Unique Personnel.

“They should have been in the dock alongside [Olagunju].

“Had they done their due diligence she never would have been sent near an elderly person.

“This is a care company sending people to the homes of elderly and vulnerable people and putting them at risk of harm.

“I want to speak about that so this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

“They tried to excuse it by saying she had only been there six days. But where were the checks and the training?”

Unique Personnel has been contacted for comment.

Homeowners need to throw slices of bread into the bottom of their bins during the hot weather

HOMEOWNERS have been urged to chuck slices of bread into the bottom of their bins during the hot weather.

With temperatures set to peak at 36C today, Brits across the nation will be basking in the heat.

Bread can be picked up from Aldi for just 55p[/caption]

And although there are many positives about the balmy weather, it can also cause a multitude of problems.

Maggots Thrive In Hot Weather

Maggots thrive in hot conditions and can hatch from eggs in as little as 8 to 20 hours during the heat.

Plus, food rots quicker in hot temperatures, attracting flies that lay eggs, leading to more maggots.

Maggots love infesting bins as they are full of rotting food.

How To Use Bread And Vinegar To Prevent Maggots

However, one TikToker has revealed a 85p hack to keep your wheely bin maggot free.

“Did you know, if you soak bread with vinegar and pop it into the bin, it will prevent flies and maggots?”, @no56northamptonshire said.

“Pop some bread soaked in vinegar at the bottom”, the TikToker, who often shares home and garden tips said.

“I always bag up all my garbage to keep the bin a lot cleaner.

“No more flies or maggots.”

Bread soaked in vinegar can deter flies and maggots due to the strong acidic smell of the vinegar, which is repellent to flies.

The vinegar also helps to mask the stench of the rotting food that attracts flies to the bin.

Plus, if maggots are already in your bin, vinegar can dehydrate them, and kill them.

Bread can be purchased for just 55p at Aldi, whilst vinegar costs 30p, making this hack perfect for anyone on a budget.

Make sure to regularly change the bread to prevent it from going mouldy.

What are maggots and why do I have them?

MAGGOTS are the larval stage of flies, typically houseflies or blowflies.

They are small, worm-like creatures that are usually white or cream-colored. Flies lay eggs on decomposing organic matter, such as rotting food, animal carcasses, or feces, and these eggs hatch into maggots.

If you have maggots in your home, it is likely because there is a source of decomposing organic material that flies have used to lay their eggs. Here are some common reasons why you might find maggots:

  1. Bins: If you have bins that haven’t been taken out for a while, especially food waste, it can attract flies.
  2. Pet waste: Animal feces, whether from pets or pests, can be a breeding ground for flies.
  3. Rotting food: Forgotten food items, whether in your pantry, refrigerator, or elsewhere, can attract flies.
  4. Poor sanitation: General lack of cleanliness and poor sanitation can contribute to fly infestations.

How to get rid of maggots

  1. Identify the source: Locate the source of the maggots and remove it. This could be rotting food, garbage, or any other decomposing organic matter.
  2. Clean thoroughly: Clean the area thoroughly with disinfectant to remove any remaining eggs or larvae.
  3. Dispose waste properly: Ensure that garbage is properly sealed and disposed of regularly.
  4. Use fly traps: Fly traps can help reduce the adult fly population, which in turn reduces the number of eggs laid.
  5. Seal entry points: Make sure windows and doors are properly sealed to prevent flies from entering your home.
  6. Regular maintenance: Regularly clean areas that can accumulate waste or organic matter, such as pet areas, kitchen bins, and outdoor spaces.

Social Media Users React

The TikToker’s hack has likely left many impressed as it has gone viral, racking up 255,000 views on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the video’ s comments section to share their thoughts on the unconventional hack.

One person said: “I didn’t know this, but I will try.”

A second person said: “I will definitely be giving this a go.

“Thanks for sharing.”

A third person chimed in: “I’ve never had maggots and I’ve been doing this for over 40 years.”

EastEnders exit as TWO stars axed after eight years and leave in a blaze of glory in final scenes

EASTENDERS has aired two major exits after bosses decided to axe the remaining Taylor family.

The BBC soap said farewell to Bernie Taylor and her cousin Felix Baker, eight years after the controversial family made their debut.

The Sun exclusively revealed how actors Clair Norris and Matthew James Morrison were being axed from the show earlier this year as new boss Ben Wadey makes huge changes.

And in today’s double-bill, their final storylines played out.

Viewers discovered last week how Bernie had been stealing from the Panesars after being left over-all control of the business empire by Nish after his death at Christmas.

Realising what was going on, Ravi and Vinny set a trap for Bernie to expose her as the thief – giving her another chance to steal from them.

But they had no idea Bernie wasn’t planning to stick around to face the consequences.

She packed her bags and convinced Felix to come with her

Having fallen for Ravi and Vinny’s trap and taken another £25,000 from the Panesar businesses, Bernie and Felix were set to leave.

But as they headed to the cab, Suki got in the way and stopped them with other members of The Six watching.

“She stole from me,” said Suki.

“No, you did,” hit back Bernie. “You all did. You stole from me and my family. Something that I can never get back.

“You’ve all just moved on. You can walk away from the Vic now that it’s up for sale and start again, you’ve got Harvey, Jack, all your kids…”

Turning back to Suki she told her: “And you have got it all.

“Everything that you ever wanted. You can be who you are with the woman that you love.

“This money is a drop in the ocean to get away with what you did, to move on, to finally let me, my mum, my family, to be finally be free of this.”

EastEnders stars who QUIT

MICHELLE Collins has seen her second EastEnders stint boost her bank balance. Yet what stars have quit this year?

The Sun exclusively reported how Michelle, 62, was down to £20,000 in her company accounts when she agreed to a shock back-from-the-dead return to Albert Square last year.

Her character, Cindy Beale, was presumed dead off-camera in 1998.

Yet what about the 2024 exits?

Earlier this summer, loyal soap fans appeared to note how Stevie Mitchell had “quit” the long-running series.

It came after Alan Ford enjoyed just six-months on-screen.

Bobby Beale actor Clay Milner Russell also left this year after five years in Walford.

Fans also feared Martin Fowler actor James Bye would “quit out of boredom” over recent storylines.

Additionally, a host of stars have quit the BBC soap for Hollywood fame.

One of the most successful stars to come from the BBC One soap is Rob Kazinsky.

He played Stacey Slater’s brother Sean Slater from 2006 to 2009, he has starred in Hollywood blockbusters Pacific Rim and Captain Marvel.

Ben Hardy, who quit EastEnders as Bobby Beale almost a decade ago, went on to break Hollywood the following year, when he starred as Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Since then, he has played Roger Taylor in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, and he starred in Michael Bay’s Netflix movie 6 Underground.

Michelle Ryan played Zoe Slater until 2005.

She starred as the lead in short-lived American series Bionic Woman from 2007 to 2008.

Kathy and Linda begged Suki to let Bernie go with the cash, and she stepped aside.

Bernie and Felix climbed into the cab and drove off – just as Ravi emerged to watch the shocking development.

NETFLIX is adding a very special live channel for 700 million users and it’s completely free.

The channel is part of a partnership with a world-famous brand and won’t show a single advert.

The streaming giant has teamed up with the iconic American space agency NASA

This summer, Netflix will be giving subscribers access to the NASA Plus channel which will broadcast the latest space news.

Watch the astronauts in space

According to NASA, the channel will also show everything including “astronaut spacewalks, mission coverage, and breathtaking live views of Earth from the International Space Station”.

Rebecca Simons, the general manager of NASA Plus, has said: “Our Space Act of 1958 calls on us to share our story of space exploration with the broadest possible audience.

“Together, we’re committed to a Golden Age of Innovation and Exploration — inspiring new generations — right from the comfort of their couch or in the palm of their hand from their phone.”

The streaming giant has over 700 million users worldwide, meaning that over eight per cent of the planet’s population will be able to watch space launches for free.

Netflix hiked the cost of its subscription in April in a bid to raise revenue.

Those with a standard membership saw their bills rise to £12.99 a month, while premium members now pay £18.99.

The standard version with adverts also saw an increase in its cost by £1 to £5.99.

Cost-saving experts warned that you could save up to £95.88 a year by ditching your Netflix plan and choosing a TV package which includes it.

Virgin Media, EE TV and Sky all offer packages with Netflix included.

Some phone contracts, including Inclusive Extra on EE plans, offer Netflix too.

First-ever exoplanet uncovered

The streaming service’s partnership with NASA comes after scientists made a major space discovery

The James Webb Space Telescope uncovered its first-ever exoplanet – a world hidden by the glare of its nearest star.

Named TWA 7 b, the mysterious world is hidden in the disks of debris surrounding the huge star.

It is roughly equivalent to the size of Saturn.

After the incredible discovery was made, Dr Caroline Harper, head of space science at the UK Space Agency, said: “This discovery represents a significant breakthrough in our understanding of exoplanets.

“Direct imaging of these distant worlds is extraordinarily challenging as they’re typically overwhelmed by the brilliant light of their host stars.

“While JWST has been studying known exoplanets since its commissioning, this marks the first time it has detected an entirely new planet.”

Wimbledon Ticket Options

There are a range of ways to get into Wimbledon as one of the only major sporting events in the world that offer sought-after tickets on the day of the event…

The Queue

As one of the only major sporting events that allows guests to purchase tickets on the day of the event, demand is high.

Each day a large queue forms of people wanting either a Grounds or Show Court ticket – with many even arriving the night before and camping to guarantee a place.

Upon arrival, visitors are issued a Queue Card, which is numbered and dated and should be kept until a ticket has been purchased.

While there is a limited number of entries, it is possible to remain in the queue and wait for people already inside to leave, with those tickets then becoming available.

It is also possible to check the status of the queue on the Wimbledon website.

This year, organisers are asking potential queuers to download the Wimbledon app and create a myWimbledon account.

Show Tickets

If you get to the front of the queue, then there are a limited number of tickets available for purchase for Centre Court and Courts 1, 2 and 3.

Note that Centre Court tickets are available for the first 10 days of the tournament, the final four days were already pre-sold.

Prices vary depending on the Court, seat and day of the event and will increase the further into the tournament you visit.

For example, Centre Court rows A-T cost £105 on Day 1 and £315 on Day 14 (men’s final).

Grounds Pass

A Grounds Pass costs £30 and allows visitors to watch matches on Courts 3-18 on unreserved seats, though there will also be a queue to get into Court 3.

Ticket Resale

From 3pm each day, tickets may become available from people who have left Wimbledon and made their seat available.

A Grounds Pass is needed to join the virtual queue on the Wimbledon App.

Tickets cost £15 for Centre Court or £10 for Courts 1/2.

Hospitality

There are a range of hospitality packages still available on the Wimbledon website.

Hospitality packages offer guaranteed premium seating to major matches as well as fine dining experiences, complimentary drinks, a shuttle and concierge service.

Hospitality packages can also be purchased via Seat Unique.

Secondary Markets

Sites such as StubHub offer tickets for the main courts for specific days and times.

*Please note that StubHub and similar secondary ticket resale sites may list tickets above face value.*

“He was doing a lot better than I was, so I would just see his name in the finals and I would be on a flight back home, but I didn’t know him personally at that time.

“We got to know each other a couple of years later.

“Denis can’t be around all the time when I’m playing events, so it’s super nice to have him in the box.

“He has a great eye for my game and for tennis in general, so I really trust him.

“But he’s very keen on the fact that he’s not my coach, he’s my boyfriend.

“We always find a way to support each other and have a good time and that can definitely help if things are not going the way you want on court.”

Denis and Mirjam are very open about their relationship on social media[/caption]

Denis added: “Mirjam’s extremely smart, you can see that on the court.

“I always try to ask her questions and vice versa. We both trust each other a lot.”

Engagement

In July 2023, the couple announced their engagement, sharing the news with fans on social media, posting sweet snaps of Denis getting down on one knee in Bastad, Sweden

Mirjam marked their sixth anniversary in June 2025 with a heartfelt post reading “6 years today & soon I get to marry you” — signaling that marriage is on the horizon.

While they are yet to tie the knot, the man himself said it would be happening sometime this year

During Wimbledon 2024, Denis was asked about wedding preparations and told the Tennis Channel:

The couple started dating in 2019[/caption]

“I think she’s doing much more of it than I am, I think it’s going well.

“Obviously getting married next year, and we’re preparing, we’re getting ready, sending the invites and stuff, things are moving along.”

And on whether they’ll be inviting any tennis players, he added: “No pros, its going to be a very small and intimate.

“I’m sorry Felix [Auger-Aliassime], no pros are invited, mainly just family and friends from really long time ago”

Puppy love

Not only are Denis and Mirjam madly in love with each other, they are also crazy about dogs.

So much so that the Canadian opened an adoption centre called ShapeShelter to help our four-legged friends find new forever homes.

The couple even took in an adorable white dog called Merlin towards the end of 2022 to make sure he had a Merry Christmas.

On Christmas Eve in matching pyjamas with her man, Mirjam posted: “Happy holidays!!🥰🎄 All I want for Christmas is for Merlin to get adopted…

“We had the most amazing time fostering him during the holidays and his future family is a very lucky one.”
