Nuno Espirito Santo signs new contract but Nottingham Forest appear to make gaffe in statement announcing it

NOTTINGHAM FOREST appeared to make a major gaffe in their announcing of Nuno Espirito Santo’s new contract.

Forest, surprisingly, announced a new deal for their Portuguese gaffer early on Saturday morning.

The former Porto and Spurs boss has inked a new three-year deal at the City Ground, although you wouldn’t have known it if you looked at the Midlands club’s website.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that Forest had mistakenly stated that Nuno inked an “x-year deal” in their statement announcing the new contract.

A snippet of the club’s official statement read: “Nottingham Forest is delighted to announce that Nuno Espírito Santo has signed a new contract with the Club.

“The Forest Head Coach has been handed a new x-year deal by owner Evangelos Marinakis ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.”

Nuno, 51, is over the moon to have extended his stay at the City Ground, which is set to host UEFA Conference League football this coming season.

He said: “I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football Club.

“Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the Club, which helped us achieve great things last season.

“I would like to thank our owner, Mr. Marinakis, for his constant support and backing.

“It is important to me to share a strong relationship with our ownership and we have thoroughly enjoyed working together ever since I arrived at Forest.

“Now is the time to work harder than ever as we strive for more special memories together.”

Marinakis said of the new deal: “Nuno has made a great impact and performed very well during his time with us so far.

“He has demonstrated that he maximises player performance and is an expert at developing players, whilst also embedding our young talent into the first team set-up.

“We enjoy a strong and solid relationship together and, above all, we share the same dream and ambition of writing a new history for Nottingham Forest, competing in the Premier League and in Europe and winning trophies for our great club!”

Forest will kick off their Premier League season on Saturday, August 17, away to Brighton.

The Tricky Trees will play the first leg of their Conference League play-off on August 21.

Why you should be turning your fans around this weekend to survive the soaring temperatures – never point them at you

WITH temperatures soaring across the UK this weekend, many of us will be reaching for our fans for some relief from the hot weather.

However, according to some experts many of us have been using our cooling devices all wrong causing them to become less efficient and cost us more.

Directing your fan at you is the worst way to cool down according to experts[/caption]

Here, energy-efficiency experts Green Improve reveal a simple heatwave hack that will save people money this summer.

Electric fans may make rooms feel warmer when used incorrectly.

Rather than positioning them inwards where they circulate hot air within rooms, fans should be directed towards windows to blow hot air outside during a heatwave.

Daniel McCowan, Director of Green Improve Ltd, also says that Brits should be ‘strategic’ when it comes to opening windows.

“UK homes are designed to retain heat,” says Daniel.

“By opening windows during a heatwave, people trap hot air inside the home and worsen the situation.”

By strategically opening windows during cooler periods, Brits can avoid overheating and save money on their electricity bills this week.

Daniel says windows and curtains should remain closed during the hottest hours, which are usually between 10 am and 4 pm.

They can then be opened during cooler evening periods to allow heat to escape and fresh air to circulate.

If someone opens their windows and allows excess heat into the home, they’re more likely to rely on expensive electric fans to cool down.

“Electric fans are an unnecessary expense during a heatwave,” McCowan adds.

“For example, running a 200W fan for 8 hours every night from May through August could add around £53.21 to electricity bills in the UK.”

How to keep cool in hot weather

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS...

Keep out of the heat if you can.

If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Cool yourself down.

Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

Keep your living space cool.

Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.

Love Island ‘bully’ row as Toni and Shakira turn on Emily in massive argument

LOVE Island fans have accused some of the stars of bullying after an explosive row in the Casa Amor villa.

American Islander Toni and Emily clashed in fiery scenes with the former accusing her costar of being nosey on the ITV reality dating series.

So, Emily confronted Toni and it ended in a row[/caption]

Toni  who arrived as the first bombshell of the series – gets annoyed after hearing a conversation between Emily and Conor.

The row then started after Emily accused Toni of talking behind her back and was warned by Meg that Toni had said she was being “nosey” and described her as “Little Miss Sunshine.”

Toni was also seen talking about Emily to Shakira, who agreed with Toni’s views.

Following their row, an exasperated Emily said she thought Toni was “just trying to cause a problem,” and “she’s f****g nuts.”

But viewers watching at home accused the Islanders of bullying due to the many instances of gossiping about Emily without her knowledge.

“Toni wanted to be the IT girl so bad and is now just trying anything to stay relevant causing problems when Emily hasn’t done anything wrong, when actually she just looks like a bully,” wrote one Love Island fan on X, formerly Twitter.

Another added: “You all love Toni but last year you all hated Jess saying she was a bully?!?!?!”

A third wrote: “Toni is like a school ground bully, poor Emily her and Shakira are 2 b*****s.”

And a fourth posted: “How can you call Toni a bully for that when Emily happily begs it w the bully trio.”

Toni hasn’t had the easiest ride in the villa, and on Wednesday night she was almost dumped from the villa.

New islander Harrison was faced with choosing between Toni and Malisha, after they both found themselves single in the latest recoupling.

They both then went on a date with Harrison, before he chose Toni, meaning Malisha went home.

It was a shaky night all round for Shakira on Friday’s episode as she chatted to Harry who admitted being unsure about his relationship with Helena.

Aoife McCoy reveals Armagh LGFA taking inspiration from male counterparts in their hunt for All-Ireland football glory

AOIFE McCOY and the Armagh ladies do not have to look far for heroes to inspire their bid for TG4 All-Ireland SFC glory.

On July 28 of last year, the county’s men edged out Galway to claim the second All-Ireland Senior Football Championship title in their history — and the first since a breakthrough success in 2002.

Piaras Ó Mídheach/Sportsfile

In their 1-11 to 0-13 triumph at Croke Park, defensive duo Barry McCambridge and Connaire Mackin played crucial roles in getting the Orchard County over the line.

Eight days earlier, McCambridge’s sisters Clodagh and Meabh featured alongside Mackin’s sibling Blaithin — his other sister Aimee was missing through injury — as Armagh lost out to Kerry in the LGFA’s Championship semi-final at O’Connor Park.

McCoy, who works from home in Lisburn as a software engineer, lined out at centre-half forward on that day in Tullamore.

And as Armagh aim to go a couple of steps further in this year’s Brendan Martin Cup, she acknowledges the lads’ achievements can spur them on.

She explained: “I think plenty of people have said it.

“The boys winning the All-Ireland last year, not really realising it, but it has maybe been a good push for ourselves as well. It has just brought a lot of happiness and stuff to the county.

“I think for ourselves it probably has pushed us on.

“We have a lot of girls that have siblings that are involved in that panel. The likes of Clodagh and the Mackins and stuff like that.

“Definitely you’re trying to emulate that success. Even without knowing it, it probably has pushed us on that bit more too.”

Despite losing out to Galway last week by a point, the Armagh men had already qualified for the quarter-final phase of the All-Ireland SFC prior to their group-stage clash.

McCoy and her Orchard colleagues will also be hoping to have booked a spot in the last eight of the Brendan Martin Cup by the time the final whistle sounds in their Group 3 clash with Kildare at the Athletic Grounds today.

Should Armagh get the better of the Lilywhites this afternoon, they will join Meath — who they have drawn with in their sole group fixture to date — in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals on the weekend of July 5-6.

The Orchard women could also potentially claim top spot ahead of a Meath side that secured a three-point victory against provincial rivals Kildare last weekend.

But McCoy stressed the main focus will be on trying to get the better of the Lilywhites.

PRIME FOCUS

She said: “A win will basically secure us a spot in the quarter-final and then after that, obviously we’d love to finish first in the group.

“To get that home quarter-final, that would be great.

“We’ll be focusing really on a win first and then just take it from there to see how it goes.

“Kildare have obviously come into Division 1 this year and they’ve maintained their status there.

“In 2023 they won the intermediate, so they’re a very good side. We played them earlier in the year down in Silverbridge.

“That was a home game for us. We had a very good performance that day, we were going pretty well in the league at the time, but they’re a very good team and they have some quality players.”

While McCoy has played in no fewer than six Lidl National Football League finals since breaking on to the Armagh panel in 2014, her sole All-Ireland final appearance to date at adult level has been on the club scene.

Although she hails from St Patrick’s Dromintee GAC, McCoy had a previous spell with Shane O’Neills in Camlough at a point when her home club was not in a position to field a team.

Joining her on this adopted side were fellow Dromintee footballers Shauna Grey and Katie Daly — and it was a productive time for the trio.

After helping them to secure county and provincial honours, McCoy, Grey and Daly featured for Shane O’Neills in an AIB All-Ireland intermediate club championship final against Galway’s Annaghdown at Parnell Park in December 2016.

A superb 2-4 haul from Aimee Mackin was not enough to get the Armagh and Ulster champions past their Connacht opponents.

But McCoy admitted reaching this showpiece was part of a great adventure with the Camlough outfit.

She added: “A great experience to say that you played in an All-Ireland club final and unfortunately we just couldn’t get the result.

“But we probably couldn’t have asked for a better club to be transferred to. It was a brilliant experience with a great group of girls.”

I went to London’s best rooftop bars – and one felt more like Mykonos than being in the city

NOW that summer is in full swing and the heat is truly turning up, there’s one spot like nowhere else to make the most of this weather – the rooftop bar.

So I visited some of London’s most popular rooftop bars to see which ones are really worth it

Chilling in the gazebo by the water fountain was a very different vibe to the competitive darts going on inside[/caption]

Here are five of my favourites to visit if you are in the city this weekend.

(Some of them feel like being at a beach club abroad, but for half the price).

Magic Gardens, Victoria Flight Club

Flight Club in London’s Victoria is a buzzing spot for after-work drinks and competitive darts with friends.

It’s popular for its retro fairground decor and stunningly suave bars, serving everything from craft beers to velvety espresso martinis.

It might be best known for its indoor high-energy darts, but take a step outside into their Magic Gardens and you’re transported into a dreamy rooftop escape.

As soon as I stepped out onto the terrace, I was hit with a vibrant floral explosion. It was a total contrast to the vintage feel of the indoor bar.

The Magic Gardens are like a hidden oasis tucked between skyscrapers.

The lush greenery and vibrant flowers make for a beautiful escape from the bustle of the surrounding city (and also make for a great Instagram backdrop!)

The drinks menu is full of fresh, summery cocktails.

The ‘Rose-ito’ in particular caught my eye. It’s a blend of rose-flavoured vodka with fresh lime and mint – the perfect floral refresher to sip in the summer heat.

London Bridge Rooftop Bar

In the centre of London, just minutes from Borough Market, is London Bridge Rooftop Bar.

This colourful hangout is built for partying and spectacular skyline views.

After making my way up a series of stairs (you forget that to visit a rooftop bar, you have to actually climb to the rooftop) I walked out onto a lawn decorated with picnic benches and bold colours.

This spot definitely has a party vibe, with booming beats blasting through the speakers and a DJ booth right in the centre.

It feels like a mix of city bar and Ibiza beach club, but weirdly it works. Business professionals were flocking in straight from the office, snacking on truffle fries in their suits and sunnies.

Think sipping on an Aperol Spritz and biting into a gourmet smash burger, all a stone’s throw away from The Shard.

The rooftop has DJ performances from 6pm Thursday through Saturday, playing the best in house and garage.

They also do a bottomless brunch on Saturdays that tends to sell out. 90 blissful minutes of bottomless Prosecco, Aperol, mimosas and beers with burgers and fries for £40 per person.

Given the location, views and vibe, I think it’s well worth it.

Circe’s Rooftop

This gorgeous rooftop bar felt less like London and more like Mykonos.

After walking up a staircase full of painted clouds and mythical goddess quotes, I stepped out into a world of peachy pink beachfront bliss.

With its palm trees, parasols and beach hut bar, why go for a girl’s trip to Marbella when you can sip and sunbathe in Waterloo?

This beach club style rooftop bar is just minutes’ walk from a busy station. But once I arrived, I instantly forgot about where I really was. Less Northern line, more Negronis.

The rooftop has a truly Mediterranean vibe, offering mezze and small plates to go with your piña colada or kiwi margarita.

The small plates are 3 for 2 if you’re there before 5pm, and range from spiced kofta lamb skewers to chilli tiger prawns.

I could honestly spend all day snacking, sipping and pretending I’m away on holiday.

I also couldn’t help but notice the espresso martini chocolate flavoured ice cream on the puddings, served with Hotel Chocolat chocolate sauce.

I didn’t think I’d ever see palm trees next to London skyscrapers, but there’s a first time for everything[/caption]

Frank’s Cafe

If you’re looking for something a little more quirky and artsy, Frank’s Cafe in Peckham really took me by surprise.

It has a much more urban and industrial feel, an effortlessly cool vibe, and is also the cheapest of the lot.

After walking up a hot pink staircase, you step out onto a giant playground.

The bar is hidden at the back of a giant rooftop, as you walk by unique art installations that make you feel like you’re in Berlin.

It’s a cheap and trendy spot where people gather for toasties, iced cocktails, and to watch the sunset over the London skyline.

By night, the rooftop is buzzing with groups sharing jugs of cheap drinks and enjoying food from the grill.

Drinks like alcoholic slushies are served in takeaway style cups at wooden benches for that no-frills urban feel.

It all felt a bit too cool and concrete for me, but the £5 drinks stole my heart.

This quirky spot is a great place for casual drinks with friends, a cheap bite to eat, and some pretty spectacular views over the city.

Market Halls Victoria

Opposite London Victoria station is a bar where street food market hall meets swanky rooftop hangout.

You start by choosing your food in the downstairs market hall, where various venders offer a range of affordable eats.

Burgers from Black Bear smelled divine, and the ever-popular eggslut was serving their famous breakfast style sandwiches.

I grabbed myself a tub of gelato from Badiani, and headed upstairs.

Stepping out into this stunning suntrap was a joy[/caption]

The floral decor really made this place feel like an urban escape[/caption]

This rooftop terrace was an absolute suntrap, and the perfect spot to enjoy the street food and soak up some rays.

The atmosphere is lively and the music is loud, with many gathered to watch the busy world go by with an ice cold pint.

The bar also hold live music events and regularly show football matches, making it a solid spot to meet up and soak up the summer vibes.

And three other rooftop bars outside of London

Goodness Gracious Roof Garden and Bar, Liverpool

Located in Liverpool, Goodness Gracious Roof Garden and Bar can be found on the eighth floor of West Africa House.

With views of the city’s iconic ‘Three Graces’ – The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building.

The bar is open from 12pm till late, Wednesday through to Sunday and has been described by previous visitors as a “real sun trap”.

20 Stories, Manchester

Over in Manchester, 20 stories is split between a roof terrace, restaurant and cocktail bar.

And this summer, the bar has partnered with Aperol for a bespoke Spritz menu.

The venue will also host live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Guesthouse No.42, Margate

Guesthouse No.42 opened in Margate back in 2023 and in the same year the spot opened their new rooftop terrace bar.

The bar features amazing 360 degree views over the beach front and serves a wide range of tipples including local beers and wine.

However, it is currently the only rooftop bar in Margate – so could be busy in the summer months.
