Small English market town on the edge of the Cotswolds that tourists forget about – despite being in two huge TV shows

TUCKED away in Wiltshire is a historic market town used as a backdrop for famous TV series starring Aidan Turner and David Tennant.

Corsham in Wiltshire has once again been turned into a TV backdrop, but it still isn’t the most popular spot in the Cotswolds.

The Cotswolds town has cobbled stone cottages, grand country manors and a quaint high street full of independent shops.

Its old-fashioned look makes it the perfect backdrop for period dramas – which is why it’s been used by two separate productions.

The cast of Rivals have most recently returned to Corsham according to the BBC with stars like David Tennant, Emily Atack and Danny Dyer returning to the town.

In the high street, the shop fronts have been tweaked to appear in the time period of the late 1980s.

The local Boots has been turned into an old-fashioned Waitrose and the town hall has been transformed into a polling station.

Classic cars have also been seen lining the streets to give the impression of the 1980s.

This isn’t the first time that Corsham has seen A-list actors in its streets, it was where half of Poldark was filmed.

Corsham was transformed into 18th century Truro when Aidan Turner, dressed as Captain Ross Poldark, came to the town.

During this time, there were horses in the streets, cattle and even sheep.

The Flemish Weaves pub was the base for the leading actors, while the extras ended up staying at the Town Hall.

While Corsham may appear to be a classic Wiltshire town, there is one big difference – the peacocks.

Around the town there are peacocks that roam the streets freely. Their actual home is in Corsham Court, but they do sometimes head into the town too.

There are plenty of extravagant places too including Corsham Court.

The privately owned stately home has a huge art collection, there are also huge gardens – which you can explore for a fee of £12.50.

Another is 23 Pickwick which is a Grade II listed country home in Corsham – and you can even book it out.

It has a sweeping staircase, an open fire and sash windows.

The cottage is a short drive away from the Georgian Spa town of Bath, which features in many of the outdoor scenes in Bridgerton.

The city of Bath is just a 30-minute drive, which is where parts of the Bridgerton series were filmed, and it’s the only UNESCO site in the country.

In Corsham is also home to The Pound Arts theatre where locals regularly put on performances.

There are also comedy shows, busking and showings of films.

Here’s a Bridgerton-like manor that you can stay in with all your mates in the UK – with its own lake and cinema room.

And Sun Travel visited the tiny English village you can only visit once a year.

Moment gang ‘of 30 teens’ spark chaos in UK seaside resort & hurl chairs at waiters in front of horrified customers

THIS is the moment a gang ‘of 30 teens’ sparked chaos and hurled chairs at waiters in front of horrified customers.

The shocking scenes were filmed as a group of yobs attacked a family restaurant at a seaside town in Kent.

A gang of up to 30 youths tried to enter the Italian restaurant, Sardinia, in Broadstairs as terrified customers looked on.

The group were chasing another youth who had sought safety inside the restaurant.

The video circulating online shows the youths run toward the restaurant before some start attacking two male members of staff at the front door.

The staff closed the doors as the youth the group was chasing hid inside the restaurant.

Objects were hurled at the staff before a bare-chested male picked up a chair from outside and threw it, smashing one of the windows.

One staff member is seen restraining the other, who disappears inside while his colleague picks up a chair to defend himself.

More chairs are hurled and a male voice in the video is heard shouting “get him bro, get him”.

Two girls are also seen filming the attack before the second staff member appears and chases one of the attackers down the street.

A window was smashed and damages could reach up to £2,000.

According to restaurant manager Tony, there were four or five tables full inside when the attack happened.

He said: “They were trying to get to this boy who they already attacked to beat him again.

“We let him inside and shut the doors, but they attacked the staff and threw chairs.

“He was half their size, I don’t know why they would want to do this – there were about 30 of them.”

The resident who posted the shocking footage on X captioned the video: “Welcome to Thanet #Broadstairs.

“The sooner I can get out of this area, the better… getting worse by the week.”

Police responded by issuing a dispersal order throughout much of the town centre following scenes of chaos throughout the day.

A window of another business was broken in addition to reports of underage drinking and street fights.

Yobs were also reported hurling bottles at beach huts and people stealing from shops on the seafront.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police is aware of incidents of anti-social behaviour in the Broadstairs area including under-age street drinking, fighting and reports of aggressive behaviour towards staff at shops and restaurants during the evening of Thursday 19 June 2025.

“Officers attended and three arrests were made on suspicion of offences relating to public order, assault and criminal damage.

“Two boys aged 16 and 17, and a 15-year old girl, all from Thanet, have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

“Officers are currently investigating these incidents, and a dispersal order has been implemented due to ongoing concerns relating to issues caused by a small minority of young people in some public areas including the town centre and beaches.

“We fully understand that residents may be concerned about incidents of crime and disorder committed by the minority, however they should feel reassured that local officers will be on patrol in the area to provide a visible presence to prevent offences from occurring.”

Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after plummeting onto rocks in horror early morning Donegal cliff fall

A MAN has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after falling from a cliff in Co Donegal.

The alarm was raised shortly after 7am when a member of the public heard calls for help at Cliff Fall at Bundoran’s West End.

They immediately contacted the emergency services for help.

Malin Head Coast Guard coordinated the response, tasking Bundoran RNLI, Donegal Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service, and the Sligo-based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 118 to the scene.

Bundoran RNLI volunteers were paged at 7:25am and proceeded quickly to the scene.

The casualty was located at the base of the cliff, having landed on rocks.

The RNLI crew at the scene managed to recover the casualty to the beach, where the helicopter had landed to assist.

The casualty was then stabilised and airlifted by Rescue 118 before being transferred to Sligo General hospital for further treatment.

The condition of the casualty is not known at this stage.

Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Daimon Fergus, said: “We are grateful to the member of the public who raised the alarm this morning.

“This was a challenging situation, and thanks to the swift response and teamwork between all agencies, the casualty was reached quickly and is now receiving the medical care they need.

“We wish them a full recovery.”

The RNLI reminds anyone visiting the coast to stay well back from cliff edges, take extreme care near the water, and in an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

This comes just a few days after Howth RNLI crews were involved in two cliff rescues yesterday.

The volunteer crew from Howth RNLI launched the inshore lifeboat just before 4.30pm on Thursday.

RESCUE OPERATIONS

This was in response to reports of three children being cut off by the tide near Lion’s Head.

This popular swimming spot is located on the south side of the Howth peninsula near the Bailey Lighthouse.

While on scene rescuing the three kids, the lifeboat was diverted by the MRCC Dublin to another emergency close by.

A teenager had fallen from the cliffs at White Water Brook – a remote beach below cliffs on the eastern side of the peninsula.

All those involved were safely returned to shore.

Love Island fans convinced producers ‘deleted’ scenes as feud explodes ‘out of nowhere’

LOVE Island fans are convinced show bosses “deleted” scenes leading up to Toni Laites and Emily Moran’s shock spat – giving the American a “villain edit.”

It came as US Islander Toni, 24, and Welsh beauty Emily, also 24, clashed in fiery scenes on Friday, with the former accusing her costar of being nosey on the ITV2 dating series.

Toni – who arrived as the first bombshell of the series – became annoyed after hearing a conversation between Emily and Conor Phillips, 25.

The row then started after Emily accused Las Vegas pool cabana server Toni of talking behind her back.

She was then warned by Meg that Toni had said she was being “nosey” and described her as “Little Miss Sunshine.”

Toni was also seen talking about Emily to Shakira, who agreed with Toni’s views.

Following their row, an exasperated Emily said she thought Toni was “just trying to cause a problem,” and claimed: “She’s f****g nuts.”

Yet after Toni had cemented herself as Love Island 2025 show favourite, fans were quick to smell a rat at her typically uncharacteristic conduct.

One took to X to muse: “Toni is so calm and collected so she’s peeped something crazy that Emily’s done for her to act like that. PRODUCERS NEED TO SHOW US!”

A second put: “I’m so confused where this random drama between Toni and Emily has come from?? I swear it’s not been referenced at all before now.”

A third mused: “The cast is unhinged where the HELL did that come from with Toni and Shakira I was gobsmacked.”

One then added: “Toni’s definitely saw something we haven’t they’re giving us the villain edit.”

Another noted: “Toni’s crash out is valid because the producers have edited something we haven’t seen, so I still support her!”

One then concluded: “Feel like Toni’s beef with Emily is so unprovoked???”

BULLY BEHAVIOUR?

Even though Toni’s fans were out in full force, other viewers watching at home accused the Islanders of bullying due to previous instances of her gossiping about Emily without her knowledge.

“Toni wanted to be the IT girl so bad and is now just trying anything to stay relevant causing problems when Emily hasn’t done anything wrong, when actually she just looks like a bully,” wrote one Love Island fan on X, formerly Twitter.

A third wrote: “Toni is like a school ground bully, poor Emily her and Shakira are 2 b*****s.”

ROUGH PATCH

It comes amid a tricky time for Toni, who caused hysterics with a wardrobe malfunction earlier in the week.

Toni hasn’t had the easiest ride in the villa overall, and on Wednesday night she was almost dumped from the villa

New islander Harrison was faced with choosing between Toni and Malisha, after they both found themselves single in the latest recoupling.

They both then went on a date with Harrison, before he chose Toni, meaning Malisha went home.
