Arsenal growing frustrated with Benjamin Sesko over wage demands as striker transfer search hits the rocks

ARSENAL are growing frustrated with Benjamin Sesko over the RB Leipzig striker’s wage demands.

And the Gunners are facing a double transfer blow — with Marc Guehi set to snub at Emirates move in favour of joining Liverpool.

Arsenal remain interested in Viktor Gyokeres should they fail to land Sesko[/caption] Head-to-head comparison of Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres' 2024/25 league statistics.

Mikel Arteta is desperate for a No9, with transfer chief Andrea Berta in negotiations for Sesko while circling for Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Arteta wants Slovenia ace Sesko, 22, to be his big summer splash and the Gunners will pay the £70million asking price.

But insiders reveal that the Sesko camp are looking for a contract much higher than they plan to pay and that may force a change of direction.

Gyokeres, 27, is Arsenal’s alternative and they do not want to lose out on the Swede, who is already realising he is not first choice.

Gyokeres wants to come to the Premier League and Sporting Lisbon will sell — but Arsenal currently have Sesko ahead of him.

The Gunners are facing defeat in their pursuit of Crystal Palace and England centre-back Guehi because of guarantees over playing time.

Guehi wants regular first-team football and assurances from Arteta that he will get it in the North London team.

But William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes would almost certainly start ahead of the 24-year-old if he was to move there.

With Liverpool selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for around £40m, the club are on the lookout for a centre-back and want Guehi.

The defender does not want to be sitting on the bench with the World Cup coming up next summer and Liverpool could be the perfect fit.

Arsenal will finalise a move for Martin Zubimendi next month at the request of Real Sociedad.

The Spanish outfit will let their influential midfielder go but for financial reasons there is a minor delay at their end.

Kevin De Bruyne wants Napoli boss Antonio Conte to reunite him with Jack Grealish in transfer blow to Man Utd star

KEVIN DE BRUYNE wants Napoli boss Antonio Conte to reunite him with Jack Grealish.

Conte has been quizzing De Bruyne about his old Manchester City pal, whose future was sealed when he was axed from Pep Guardiola’s Club World Cup squad.

And the Belgian, 33, who joined the Italians earlier this month, hopes his glowing reference will see Conte also try to land playmaker Grealish.

City are willing to take a huge hit on the £100million they paid Aston Villa four years ago.

And Grealish, 29, faces a big pay cut as  Napoli would pay little more than half of his current £300,000-a-week salary.

He will accept that if it gives him a chance of forcing his way back into England boss Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup plans.

Everton would love Grealish to be their marquee signing as they begin life in their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock — but the lure from Italy is stronger.

SunSport revealed on Monday that Napoli have £45m to spend on Grealish or Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho — but will only buy ONE.

Conte’s Serie A champs could start their title defence with SIX former Prem stars in their line-up.

Scott McTominay’s move from Manchester United went so well he was Serie A’s Player of the Year.

And striker Romelu Lukaku is another former United man on their books.

Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing arrived in January, in a move that could become permanent.

City would even sanction a loan switch for Grealish — especially if there is a commitment to buy.

Irish Lotto player celebrating huge six-figure sum win but narrowly misses out on life-changing €8.2m jackpot bonanza

A LUCKY player is celebrating after bagging a huge sum in tonight’s Lotto main draw.

The Lotto player managed to scoop a whopping €194,616 – but narrowly missed out on the jackpot by a single number.

The location where the winning ticket was purchased in Ireland has not yet been revealed by the bosses.

However, it is expected to be revealed over the weekend.

The winning numbers in tonight’s draw were 15, 19, 24, 31, 34, 42 and the bonus number 30.

The lucky player won €194,616 by matching five balls and the bonus number.

However, they were one number short of securing the life-changing jackpot prize of €8.267,128.

There were also 20 winners who matched five numbers, winning €1,659 each.

there were no winners of Lotto Plus 1 and 2 jackpots.

However, there were 87 winners of the raffle prize, each receiving €500.

The winning raffle number was 9824.

This comes just days after a record-breaking €250m winning EuroMillions ticket was sold at Clifford’s Centra on Shandon Street in Cork.

The lucky punter became the National Lottery’s 13th millionaire of 2025 and the largest-ever Irish jackpot winner when they bagged the huge sum on Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw.

Clifford’s store manager Simon Champ said he had no idea who the lucky winner is, although speculation ranged from a syndicate to a tea lady working with the HSE.

‘DREAM COME TRUE’

Irish Lottery Manager, Cian Murphy, said: “A win of this size is life-changing.

“It is a celebration for the Lottery, the shop, the community and the winner. It is fantastic as it makes someone’s dream come true.”

But he said if winners do not want their identities revealed, the Lottery ensures that the name does not get out into the public arena.

Jack O’Connor says Croke Park return will lift pressure after David Clifford hat-trick sinks Cavan

JACK O’CONNOR expects next weekend’s return to Croke Park to ease the pressure on his Kerry side after they held off a second-half resurgence from Cavan to take their place in the last eight of the Sam Maguire race.

David Clifford bagged a hat-trick in Killarney as the hosts put themselves on a quarter-final collision course with All-Ireland champions Armagh.

David Clifford bagged a hat-trick in the win over Cavan

If Donegal and Galway advance from today’s meetings with Louth and Down respectively, Kerry will face the Orchard in a repeat of last year’s semi-final.

Although the Kingdom kept Cavan at arm’s length, their wastefulness in attack kept the door ajar for the visitors to reduce the gap to four points with 12 minutes remaining.

In the context of their shock defeat to Meath seven days earlier, O’Connor cited intensity and tackling as areas where his team showed improvement.

However, he also felt they ‘got a bit frantic at times and made poor decisions with the ball’ as they allowed Cavan to chip away at the ten-point half-time buffer.

O’Connor admitted: “There’s a lot of pressure on Kerry players from the supporters. That was a difficult environment for the lads to play football in today. After their performance last week, there was huge pressure on them to perform and that can be a difficult environment.

“Often it’s easier to go to Croke Park, away from home, and actually express yourself and play without fear and play with a bit of abandon. That’s what we’re planning on next weekend.”

Having played with the breeze, Kerry looked comfortable as they led by 2-12 to 0-8 at the interval. Clifford netted twice inside the opening 19 minutes and Cavan were also handicapped by a black card to Niall Carolan. But the Munster champions were repeatedly guilty of butchering goal chances.

Gavin White struck the post in the first half when he sought to raise a green flag. Dylan Geaney also gathered a rebound to tap over a point after Clifford’s first attempt to claim his hat-trick was kept out by Liam Brady, who made a string of fine saves.

Clifford left two more goal chances go to waste in the third quarter. Conor Geaney also had a couple thwarted and Graham O’Sullivan squandered one too.

At the other end, the Cavan charge was spearheaded by Paddy Lynch, whose final tally of 0-12 included four two-pointers.

When he landed a huge effort from nearly 50 metres out, the natives briefly grew restless at the sight of the 2-16 to 1-15 scoreline.

Evan Crowe had punched home a 51st-minute goal for Cavan which kickstarted a spell that saw them outscore the opposition by 1-6 to 0-1.

Clifford then gave Kerry more breathing room by finally claiming his third goal, having been teed up by Killian Spillane after Joe O’Connor saw another opportunity for his side foiled by Brady.

Cavan responded with a Lynch two-pointer but Kerry saw out the game by firing 0-5 without reply. That included a point for Leaving Cert student Tomás Kennedy, who came off the bench for his senior debut.

Injury-hit Kerry can now look forward to a first Croker date since their National League final win over Mayo.

O’Connor said: “It’s a great footballer’s pitch. It’s a huge pitch and there’s space there and that’s why you want to play football.

“This is a good pitch here in Fitzgerald Stadium as well. I just thought there were times today when it looked like the pressure got to the lads a bit and they didn’t express themselves the way they could have.”

The Kerry boss lamented the latest injury setback to namesake Diarmuid O’Connor, who was forced off after injuring his shoulder in the throw-in. He joins Mike Breen, Tony Brosnan, Paul Geaney and Barry Dan O’Sullivan on the sidelines.

Kingdom chief O’Connor also responded to comments from Darragh Ó Sé, who claimed ‘the mood isn’t great’ in Kerry and that Armagh will bring their season to an end next time out.

O’Connor said: “Darragh would be as well off now to go away and do a bit of coaching himself.”

Huge carmaker ‘may sell iconic luxury motor brand’ as sales dive and new CEO takes charge

ONE of the world’s largest car manufacturers looks set to sell an iconic sports car brand as sales plummet.

Discussions over the future of Maserati remain ongoing as industry giant Stellantis prepares to welcome its new CEO in the coming days.

Last year, the number of Maserati units sold plunged from 26,600 to just 11,300[/caption]

The French-Italian company could be forced to sell the luxury car brand on the back of poor sales over the past year.

New CEO Antonio Filosa – who starts on Monday after being appointed last month – faces huge financial decisions as a result of President Trump’s brutal trade tariffs.

Stellantis – which owns 14 brands across the globe – was reported to have hired management consulting firm McKinsey and Co to review the situation.

McKinsey was called in April this year to advise on struggling brands Maserati and Alfa Romeo, with both experiencing a dire 2024.

Last year, the number of Maserati units sold plunged from 26,600 to just 11,300.

Stellanis told Motor1: “McKinsey has been asked to provide its considerations regarding the recently announced U.S. tariffs for Alfa Romeo and Maserati.”

Trump’s new legislation means tariffs of at least 25 percent on anything imported into the US.

Maserati has no new model launches scheduled as it waits for a new business plan, with the last one having been put on hold by Stellantis in 2024.

The plan is expected to be presented soon after Filosa starts his new role.

But as things stand, it is understood that all options remain on the table for the world-renowned Italian brand.

It came after the global firm pulled the plug on a £1.3billion investment in Maserati earlier this year.

Plans for the hotly anticipated electric MC20 Folgore were also binned due to low demand.

The EV, which translates to ‘lightning’ in Italian, was intended to be the brand’s electric alternative to the stunning MC20 sports car.

It promised a power output and performance characteristics similar to the existing V6-engined MC20.

The Folgore was set to be one of six Maserati EVs set for launch over the next year or so.

But Stellantis chief financial officer Doug Ostermann said they had pulled the plug on Maserati projects, claiming they wanted to review the pace in which sports car owners move over to EVs.

He said: “We have to recognise the dynamics in that business, particularly in the Chinese market, and our expectations in terms of how quickly that luxury market would transition to electrification.”

What is Stellantis?

Stellantis is the company behind iconic motor brands such as Fiat, Vauxhall and Peugot.

The conglomerate, which is the second-largest maker of cars in Europe, owns 14 badges, including Chrysler, Citroen, Jeep and Maserati.

The company itself is the product of a merger between Fiat-Chrysler and France’s PSA, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen, in 2021.

But the motoring giant has encountered increasingly stuttering financial success.

And an initial manufacturing break at Stellantis has now been extended as bosses report a collapse in demand for electric cars.

Other projects, including EV replacements for the Levante and Quattroporte models, are in danger of being cancelled too.

The vehicles were set to be released in 2027 and 2028 respectively.

It is understood the three models would have been Maserati’s electric line-up as the firm looked to adapt to the EV revolution.

Before he left the firm last year, Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares claimed the low sales at Maserati were due to advertising issues.

He told Top Gear: “Maserati is in the red. The reason is marketing.

“The Maserati brand is not clearly positioned and the storytelling is not how it should be.

“The brand is not just about sports cars, it’s about gran turismo, it’s about quality of life, dolce vita and technology.”

TV star Selina Scott viciously attacked and robbed by gang of eight in lawless London as she slams police

BROADCASTER Selina Scott was viciously attacked and robbed by a gang in broad daylight last week, she revealed.

The ex-ITV News at Ten anchor, 74, bravely fought back but said the ordeal left her “shattered and traumatised”.

She said she was leaving a Waterstones in Piccadilly, Central London, when she was struck on the back of her right knee and thought she had been stabbed.

A gang of around seven or eight men and women, in expensive sportswear and seemingly of East Asian origin, who were in front of her then turned and hemmed her in.

They tried to grab her designer backpack, which she tightly held onto.

Another group then barged into her and she realised she was being “attacked from both sides at the same time”.

Selina managed to keep hold of the bag when she fought back and the gang walked off laughing.

She later realised they managed to unzip the bag and take her purse, which had her driving license, cards and cash.

Ms Scott, a TV icon since the 1980s who famously interviewed Donald Trump, slammed the lack of police presence to deter or catch the criminal thugs.

She said she walked “up and down some of London’s busiest central areas” and did not see a single officer.

The journalist wrote in the Mail on Sunday that the events were “so swift and practised that it was clear it was a coordinated assault.”

She added: “I was right by a busy bus stop, although no one would have known what was going on.

“It was slick, brief and clearly engineered to happen in the middle of a crowd.

“I still feel shattered after what has happened. I can’t believe it happened to me.

“I’m mentally resilient and physically fit, but if they can attack me in such a brazen way they can attack anyone.

“You’re left feeling not just traumatised, but stupid that you have somehow let it happen.

“I’m also furious about the lack of police on our streets. No wonder the gang who set about me have a sense of impunity – they can do anything they want because they know no one will stop them.”

She suffered bruising to her leg but said she was relieved they did not use a knife.

The Met Police said: “While we understand that the victim was frustrated that she couldn’t see any police officers on the street, a significant number of officers patrol the West End every day – not just in uniform on foot, but also in plain clothes and in vehicles to have the best opportunity to identify and apprehend suspects.

“We would be happy to talk to the victim to better understand her concerns.”

Russia hands its own dead soldiers to Ukraine in sick move during body swap as Vlad’s best pal frees prisoners for Trump

RUSSIA handed over 20 bodies it claimed were Ukrainian defenders – but they were actually its own dead troops, says Zelensky.

It comes as Russian ally Belarus freed its top jailed opposition leader and other political prisoners – after Trump’s envoy met the ex-Soviet state’s iron-fisted leader.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed Russia’s grim body-swap blunder on Saturday, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.

He said: “They (Russia) told us these were only Ukrainians and only service members.

“But that’s a lie, now documented. In some cases, these bodies even have Russian passports on them.

“They can’t even check who they’re sending. We certainly want all of our warriors and the bodies of our heroes back.

“But we definitely do not want Russians being handed over simply for the sake of quantity.”

Meanwhile, Sergei Tikhanovsky, a prominent Belarusian opposition leader, was freed from jail along with 13 other political prisoners on Saturday.

His release came after US special envoy Keith Kellogg met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in the country’s capital, Minsk.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – Tikhanovsky’s wife and also a Belarusian opposition politician – publicly thanked Donald Trump, Kellogg and “all European allies” for securing her husband’s release.

Lukashenko’s press secretary said the prisoners were freed at Trump’s request.

Tikhanovskaya wrote on X: “My husband … is free! It’s hard to describe the joy in my heart.”

She added: “We’re not done. 1150 political prisoners remain behind bars. All must be released.”

Five Belarusian nationals, along with Japanese, Polish and Swedish citizens, were also released, according to Tikhanovskaya’s office.

The Lithuanian foreign minister said on X that the 14 political prisoners were receiving care in Lithuania.

Tikhanovsky was jailed for 18 years in 2021.

Many Belarusians believe the 2020 election was rigged by Lukashenko’s regime to keep him in power – a position he’s held since 1994.

Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians have fled their homeland since the brutal crackdown on opposition protests in 2020.

Belarus has faced heavy Western sanctions for its brutal crackdown and backing Russia’s war – including allowing Russian troops to use its land and hosting tactical nukes.

Tens of thousands have been arrested in Belarus for political reasons over the past five years, says rights group Viasna.

It comes as Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko signed a security agreement in December, finalising the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear arms in Belarus.

The signing followed an amendment in Russia’s nuclear doctrine, which for the first time placed Belarus under the Russian nuclear umbrella.

It effectively gives Lukashenko control over the potential use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons deployed to Belarus in response to aggression.

Putin said in a televised remark: “I’m sure that the treaty will ensure the security of Russia and Belarus.”

After the two leaders signed the pact, Lukashenko asked Putin to deploy the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) that Russia used for the first time last month against Ukraine.

Gerry Hutch will ‘have to testify’ & take the stand if alleged money laundering case proceeds, Spanish courts insist

GERRY ‘The Monk’ Hutch must take the stand in court if the case against him proceeds — Spanish authorities have told us.

The 62-year-old Dubliner remains under investigation for alleged money laundering offences but he has yet to reappear in a Lanzarote court since his initial arrest back in October 2024.

Hutch was lifted on the island as part of a major probe being led by Spanish authorities.

There was a series of raids in Lanzarote while the gardai assisted by searching his home in Clontarf, north Dublin.

Spanish authorities branded Hutch as “an alleged leader of an international gang of criminals” and he was held in Tahiche prison for a week and a half.

He was granted bail of €100,000 and returned to Ireland ahead of his bid for a Dail seat in last year’s general election.

In an update given to The Irish Sun on Sunday, a spokesman for the Canary Islands’ High Court of Justice confirmed that the probe is still ongoing.

They told us: “Mr Hutch is still under investigation. He has not reappeared at this time.

“If the case goes forward and is not dismissed, he will have to testify at the trial hearing if one is scheduled. The probe is ongoing, and its contents are not public.”

We also understand that Hutch is “likely” to be summoned to appear to testify in any preliminary investigation phase hearing if it is scheduled.

The Spanish-led probe is centred on the Hutch Organised Crime Group’s alleged use of cash from criminal activities to buy properties and vehicles in Spain.

The investigation — which saw eight others also lifted — has been ongoing for more than two years, with Gardai assisting by sharing information and evidence.

After the arrests, authorities in Spain said: “They are being probed as alleged perpetrators of money laundering crimes committed within a criminal organisation.”

In an interview last year, Hutch claimed the probe was being orchestrated by the Gardai to prevent him standing in the election.

He denied any wrongdoing when he returned back to Ireland in early November.

BACK HOME FOR DAIL RUN

Hutch ran for a Dail seat that month and just fell short in Dublin Central, finishing behind Labour’s Marie Sherlock.

Irish director Jim Sheridan told how he was “shocked” at the strong backing that Hutch had.

The My Left Foot director was following Hutch with a camera crew as part of a documentary he is making about the election and the gang boss.

“If the case goes forward and is not dismissed, he will have to testify at the trial hearing if one is scheduled. The probe is ongoing, and its contents are not public.”

Spokesman for the Canary Islands’ High Court of Justice

Speaking at the count centre in the RDS on the day Hutch failed in his election bid, the director said he was “totally surprised” at the level of support the crime boss received from voters.

He said: “I was thinking of just doing a small documentary about the election – that’s all. I never thought he’d get in or have a chance.”

RAGS TO RICHES & FAME

GERRY ‘The Monk’ Hutch could soon become a Netflix star if Jim Sheridan gets his way.

A trailer on the life story of the gangster, made by the award-winning producer and director, was sent to the global network for consideration earlier this year.

Both Netflix and Sky have indicated to Sheridan they are interested in The Monk’s rags-to-riches life story.

The director has made a trailer on the proposed real-life story and it is being sent to them.

Earlier this year a source told us: “Gerry gave Jim his full co-operation and has given him several hours of taped interviews. Some of the stuff he spoke about is incredible.

“However, some clips may have to be refilmed because they are now outdated and have been overtaken by (recent) events.

“There will be huge public interest in his story and what he has to say.

“Both Netflix and Sky are now considering it.”

Asked why he thinks people backed The Monk at the polls, Jim said: “I just think it is anger at their position. Years and years of drugs and nothing happening in that community.

“Like some people are trying to help but there has never been, like since Tony Gregory, a cohesive attitude towards it or a focused attitude.

“Sheriff Street, I think that was the one thing they got wrong because it’s like a blocked artery down there.

“It’s crazy and it’s in the shadow of all these IFSC and it’s not really a real community. It’s just one street now and you would just wish that something good was developed for it.”

DPP DECISION TO COME

Hutch refused to rule out running for public office again after failing in his attempt to win a Dail seat last year.

He has since continued to live between Ireland and Lanzarote.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions is weighing up organised crime charges against him here in Ireland.

Hutch walked free from the Special Criminal Court in April 2023, left, after he was acquitted of murdering the 34-year-old Kinahan cartel lieutenant David Byrne at the Regency Hotel.
