Love Island fans spot ‘secret new couple’ after a sexy performance in the heart rate challenge

LOVE Island viewers are going wild over a hot new connection between two contestants.

The infamous heart rate challenge once again returned to the Love Island villa – and some brand new chemistry was undeniable.

The Islanders turned up the heat in the villa by stripping off and performing provocative moves in a bid to excite the opposite sex.

During the task, one couple’s chemistry couldn’t be ignored by fans.

Ben Holbrough was most stirred by international business graduate Alima Gagigo.

While Alima’s heart rate was raised the most by Harrison, viewers have clocked her attraction with model Ben.

The ITV2 dating show saw the Islanders suck fingers, strip off and even spank each other in the saucy challenge.

The official Love Island social media channel teased: “Let’s just say some hearts were racing in very unexpected directions…”

Eagle-eyed viewers have noted the pair having secret chats around the pool – and can’t ignore the promising signs.

One fan noted: “Alima and Ben could be cute.”

A second noted: “Alima and Ben seem to have a thing which hasn’t been shown until tonight.”

A third suggested: “Alima and Ben anyone?”

“There is actually a vibe between Ben and Alima, saw them in a lot of background shots chatting. They have good chemistry. Ngl [not gonna lie] don’t hate it,” observed a fourth.

“Low key like the idea of Ben and Alima but I know she won’t stand for his behaviour,” wrote a fifth.

“You’re going to hate me for this but I’m full support of Ben and Alima, there’s something there and it’s not forced,” another fan confirmed.

“Ben and Alima, I just want to see something,” begged another viewer.

“Alima and Ben seem to have a thing,” concurred another.

“Ben and Alima would make a great match,” one fan predicted.

Events in the Majorcan villa got even more wild as a BDSM-clad Dejon spanked Emily Moran as she leant on her chair.

Arguably, Helena Ford was the contestant who shocked the islanders the most by whispering something X-rated into Harry’s ear.

She left the boys reeling when she made a beeline for the footballer.

Kneeling on the floor, she suggestively sucked his finger as the boys watched on.

The contestant straddled his lap as she whispered into his ear: “I can’t wait to f*** you.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.

Choosing the right one is tricky as it is, so things are only going to get tougher. That’s where we come in. Our experts have been reviewing online casinos for almost two decades.

Using our collective knowledge, we’ll show you how to find the best casinos in Ireland right now and make smart decisions in the future.

Taking into account everything from bonuses and payment options to games, innovations and customer service, our casino reviews will help you find the perfect places to play. So, let’s get started.

Best online casino sites in Ireland ☘

More online casino information: best online casino reviews

What makes our top 10 picks outshine all other Irish online casinos? Scroll down, and you’ll find out why our team of gambling experts has chosen each one.

1. TonyBet

TonyBet tops our list of elite online casinos in Ireland because it’s the home of massive payouts. We love the fact that you can play more than 1,500 games. The ones that impressed us most were the exclusives, including TonyBet Plinko and TonyBet Space XY (crash). Lots of IE casinos have exclusive games, but very few have exclusive Plinko and crash games.

Linked to its impressive gaming lobby are tons of big-money promotions. There’s a €30 million Drops & Wins promotion that pays out 10,000 bonus prizes every day. You can also play for €850,000 in daily progressive jackpot prizes. Finally, if you wager enough to become a VIP, you can get up to €100,000 worth of bonuses and cash prizes.

Highlights

  • Mobile-optimised software
  • Also offers online sports betting
  • Withdrawals processed within 12 hours

2. 24 Casino

24 Casino is one of our recommended casino sites for high-rollers. That’s not to say you can’t use it if you’re a recreational player. You can play all of the casino’s 1,000+ games for less than €1. However, one of 24 Casino’s best features is its VIP program.

The minimum wagering requirement is €10,000, which is more than most people can afford.  But, if you’re able to play responsibly and hit this mark, the rewards are exceptional. In addition to personalised promotions and faster withdrawals, you can get a dedicated VIP manager and tickets to exclusive events.

Highlights

  • Accepts crypto, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and USDT
  • Tons of First Person live games, including First Person Video Poker
  • In-house progressive jackpots topping €1.3 million

3. Slotbox

SlotBox, as you can probably guess, is a hive of spinning activity. The site contains more than 1,500 slots, covering every genre possible. Video and classic slots are flanked by progressive jackpot and Megaways games. For those who want even more ways to win, SlotBox has lobbies dedicated to expanding feature slots, games with cascading symbols, and bonus buy titles.

Slots are potentially profitable in their own right, but SlotBox makes its high-RTP games even more attractive with weekly cashback. This promotion refunds up to €2,000 of your net losses every week, thus improving your theoretical win rate.

Highlights

  • Trade points for bonuses in the SlotShop
  • Play for massive Drops & Wins prizes
  • Excellent FAQ and live chat support

4. Karamba

Karamba is a well-established brand that mixes slots, live tables and a full sportsbook under one roof – ideal for Irish players who like both casino and betting. You’ll find top slots from NetEnt and Play’n GO, regular promotions, and fast withdrawals. The site is mobile-friendly and holds MGA and UKGC licences, giving players in Ireland extra peace of mind.

Highlights

  • Trusted name since 2005
  • Play slots, live games & bet on sport
  • Fully licensed and secure

5. LuckyWins

You should try LuckyWins if you’re a mobile casino player who wants novel promotions. On the added value front, a massive welcome bonus is followed by a variety of unique offers. For example, in-house Super Progressive Jackpots topping €1.3 million are great for slot players.

Another offer that got our attention was the €10,000 Lucky Lottery. Depositing €30 or more gets you a ticket for the monthly draw. 40 tickets are picked at random, and prizes range from €50 to €2,000. These promotions are wrapped up in a mobile-optimised interface that taps into smartphone-specific payment options such as Siru.

Highlights

  • Instant BTC payments through CoinsPaid
  • Hot jackpot slots, including Mega Moolah
  • Great for live game shows, including Mega Wheel

6. Spinsy

If you’re a player interested in exploring new game titles and enjoying a variety of casino experiences, Spinsy is a great place to start. In addition to popular slots, game shows, and a selection of exclusive games, we appreciated that the casino also features challenges, tournaments, and regular promotions.

Spinsy rewards you with “Bonus Crab Credit” for each daily deposit, giving you the chance to win real money prizes, bonuses, free spins, and coins. The casino also offers solid cashback and reload promotions.

Highlights

  • Exclusive slots
  • Games from over 60 software providers
  • Fast payout payment methods available

7. Playfina

Playfina’s website might look basic, but don’t let that fool you. Desktop and mobile push notifications ensure you never miss out on a new promotion or challenge. The challenges are intriguing because they add another layer of excitement to what’s an already impressive collection of 1,000+ games.

Another reason to get busy inside the Playfina gaming lobby is the seven-tier loyalty program. Rise through the ranks and claim every bonus possible and you’ll get an extraordinary €2,664,000 in bonus money and 33,540 free spins.

Highlights

  • Turn loyalty points into a Lamborghini Huracán
  • New promos every day of the week
  • Get mystery loot box prizes by depositing €20 or more

8. CasiGo

CasiGo might not have the biggest bonuses, but it has the best. We’re bullish about its bonuses because of the playthrough. At 35x, CasiGo’s playthrough is lower than the industry average of 40x. That means it’s easier to convert bonus credits to withdrawable cash, which is handy if you’re a recreational player.

Having a lower-than-average playthrough without any promotions would be a crime. Fortunately, we don’t have to call the Garda because CasiGo has different bonuses every day of the week. These offers are flanked by a five-tier loyalty program that gives you a chance to claim personalised promotions and more.

Highlights

  • Get 15% cashback on losses
  • One-touch filters make it easy to search through 1,000 games
  • Use the heart icon to save your favourite games

9. Lukki

Lukki Casino is our top pick for indecisive players. The “Discover” feature led us to this conclusion. Tap that, and it provides a stylish but slick overview of the best games from a range of categories, including  Luck of the Irish, Popular, New Games, and Diamond Club Games. This is an easy way to find new games when you’re unsure what to play.

If you don’t want to use the Discover feature, we recommend Lukki Casino’s Diamond Club Games. These exclusive games put a unique spin on established hits such as Starburst and Cash Pig. The twists include random prize drops, special promotions, and the chance to earn extra points so you can progress further up the ranks of Lukki’s seven-tier loyalty program.

Highlights

  • 10% cashback on blackjack losses
  • Plenty of high-stakes live games, including No Commission Baccarat
  • VIP club with generous rewards for high-volume players

10. Casino Rocket

The first thing you’ll notice about Casino’s Rocket is its quirky interface. The sci-fi theme and fluorescent green icons might not be to everyone’s taste, but we think it’s a good look. If nothing else, it makes Casino Rocket stand out in a market full of dull-looking websites.

That’s a positive because Casino Rocket has plenty of substance to back up its style. The gaming lobby is filled with a combination of casino classics and modern marvels. Among the 1,000+ games are Bitcoin versions of popular titles, including 5 Lions Megaways, Plinko X and Baccarat Live.

Highlights

  • Larger-than-average selection of 20+ poker games
  • Seven-tier Rocket Club loyalty program
  • VIP club for high-stakes players

11. CrocoSlots

If there’s a bigger casino welcome bonus in Ireland, we’re yet to find it. CrocoSlots gives new customers up to €11,000 over the course of three deposits. The unique part of this welcome offer is that the third bonus is random.

As long as your third deposit is €20 or more, you get to spin the Croco Wheel. Depending on where it stops, you’ll win a mystery prize worth between €20 and €10,000. The unique offers don’t stop there. CrocoSlots is the best Irish online casino for cashback bonuses. There are three offers in total – 15% slots cashback, 10% live casino cashback and 15% crypto cashback – which is more than any other casino in Ireland.

Highlights

  • Refined mobile-first design
  • Anonymous crypto deposits and withdrawals
  • Plenty of responsible gambling tools

12. Rooster Bet

Rooster Bet is our favourite all-rounder. The well-stocked casino contains games from a wealth of world-class providers, including Yggdrasil, Evolution, and NetEnt. You can even play crypto-specific casino games such as Endorphina’s 100 Zombies.

The live dealer lobby also has something to offer players of all persuasions. Double Ball Roulette is particularly enjoyable, as are Lightning Storm Live, Speed Blackjack and Monopoly Big Baller. Finally, if you need a break from casino gaming, Rooster Bet offers betting odds on 64 different sports.

Highlights

  1. Loyalty program offering up to 20% cashback
  2. Instant fiat and crypto withdrawals from €20
  3. Accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay

📋 How we test and rate online casinos in Ireland

We don’t pluck names from thin air. Our recommended online casinos have been picked and pulled apart to ensure they offer the kind of service you deserve. Anyone can deconstruct online casinos, so we’re not claiming to be unique in this regard.

What most people can’t do, however, is critically appraise them. Our experts can because they’ve been in the business for almost two decades. They’ve not only reviewed hundreds of online casinos but been players at many of them.  Our overall experience with the casino is represented with our Sun Factor ranking system. Each casino is ranked on a 1 to 5 scale.

Put simply, every casino review we publish is backed by years of experience. We want you to combine your preferences with our collective experience by assessing the same qualities as we do. Those qualities are:

💰 Bonuses and promotions

Every top-rated online casino in Ireland should be packed with generous promotions. Go back to our list of recommended IE casino sites, and you’ll see that all of them give newbies plenty of bonus credits.

Free spins also show us that an operator is serious about giving players extra value for their time online. Other offers that are commonly available at Ireland’s leading online casinos are:

  • Cashback on losses
  • Loyalty rewards (available to all players and work on a bets-for-points basis)
  • VIP perks (usually reserved for high-stakes players)
  • Reload bonuses
  • In-house progressive jackpots
  • Prize drops
  • Bonus wheel prizes
  • Mystery deposit bonuses

All of these offers should be as accessible to low-stakes players as high-rollers. In fact, as we always say in our casino reviews, wagering requirements matter. The minimum deposit/betting requirements should be suitable for players at all levels.

We also check to make sure there aren’t any unnecessary betting restrictions for players with active bonuses. Finally, we like playthrough targets to be as low as possible. 40x is the current industry average, so anything around this mark is considered acceptable. Anything lower signifies a better-than-average casino bonus.

🃏 Selection of games and software providers

Games are the foundation of every online casino in Ireland. We expect the basics to be covered, which means you should have access to the following games via your desktop or mobile device:

  • Video slots
  • Progressive jackpot slots
  • Blackjack
  • Roulette
  • Baccarat
  • Casino (table) poker
  • Video poker

We don’t mind gambling sites that only offer the classics if they use a variety of software providers. For example, video slots from NetEnt have a much different vibe to ones from Yggdrasil and Pragmatic Play.

The same goes for table games. BSG’s American Blackjack looks different to Play’n Go’s Blackjack NH. Then, when live casino games from developers such as Evolution are added to the mix, you get a completely different experience.

Our point is that a casino doesn’t necessarily need thousands of games. As long as the basics are done well, that’s enough. Of course, an IE online casino is even better if it does this and offers something else.

Arcade-style and instant-wins games are incredibly popular right now. This category includes crash games such as Aviator, Plinko, Keno, Coin Flip, and scratchcards. The very best Irish online casinos also have exclusive content. TonyBet’s collection of casual casino games is a great example of this.

💳 Secure and fast banking options

Money matters when you’re trying to win €1 million jackpots, which is why we examine a casino’s cashier page. The first thing we check is the native currency. Ideally, we want an online casino to accept Euro deposits, so you don’t have to worry about currency conversion charges.

The second thing we look at is the minimum limits for deposits and withdrawals. Any amount around the €10-€30 mark is fine with us. Next, we look at payment options. All of the usual suspects should be there, including Visa, MasterCard, Skrill, and PayPal.

Mobile-specific options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay should also be available. Finally, As we move into an era of decentralised payments, it’s nice to see Irish online casinos offering cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals.

Bitcoin is the standard in this regard, but it’s great when casinos also accept other tokens, including Ethereum, USDT, and Litecoin. The presence of these payment options tells us that the operator cares about innovation. It also means you can make secure, anonymous payments and enjoy instant withdrawals.

📞 Customer experience

The reason we take so much time over our casino reviews is to minimise the chances of you running into snags. However, unexpected things can happen, so we want you to be in capable hands when you leave us.

That’s why our top picks have comprehensive FAQs, as well as instant help via the following methods:

  • Live chat
  • Email/contact form
  • Phone (not as common, so it’s nice when you can call someone)

Customer support isn’t the only thing we review. The design and aesthetic of an online casino can affect your experience.

How easily you can get through the registration process affects your overall experience. In short, we want everything to be smooth, easy to understand and reliable, from tapping our secure sign-up links to the moment you start playing.

🔒 Responsible gambling and security

The final qualities world-class online casinos share are integrity and security. Integrity, for us, means offering games certified as fair by independent testing agencies. It also means caring for customers by offering tips on how to avoid gambling problems as well as the following tools:

  • Personalised deposit and betting limits
  • Loss limits
  • Session timers and reality checks
  • Timeouts and self-exclusion options
  • Links to responsible gambling organisations, such as GamblingCare.ie

These tools should be backed by a variety of security protocols. SSL encryption is a minimum standard, as are password-protected accounts. Additional security features that should pique your interest are 2-factor authentication (2FA) and Touch ID/Face ID logins for mobile casinos.

Casino bonuses at Irish casino sites

Bonuses are non-negotiable. The offers below give you ways to boost your bankroll, regardless of whether or not luck is on your side:

  • Matched bonus: get a bonus equal to the value of your deposit, e.g., deposit €100 and get a 100% match bonus of €100.
  • Free spins: you can spin the reels of popular online slots without spending a cent. The caveats with free spins bonuses are that they have a preset bet value, the amount you win will often be capped, and prizes are usually paid in bonus cash.
  • Cashback: it’s possible to recoup a portion of your losses with cashback bonuses. The best Irish online casinos give you increasing amounts of cashback based on your VIP status. Rebates are usually issued as cash and based on your net loss for the period (deposits + winnings – losses).
  • Reload bonuses: in the same way you can get extra credits from your first deposit, it’s possible to get bonuses when you reload your account. Reload bonuses are usually smaller than first deposit bonuses. The most lucrative offers have a 50% bonus multiplier.
  • No deposit bonuses: no deposit casino bonuses are rare in Ireland, but they’re worth claiming if you find one because you don’t have to add funds to your account to get something extra.

Payment methods at Irish online casinos

Safety and speed are important when it comes to casino payments. The methods below are ideal for Irish online casino players who want to make Euro deposits and withdrawals. For those willing to use new technology, Ireland’s leading gambling sites now offer cryptocurrency payments:

  • Debit cards: everyone uses debit cards to pay for goods and services, which is why they’re one of the most popular ways to make casino deposits and withdrawals. As well as being safe, familiar and reliable, withdrawals are usually processed within three days.
  • eWallets: PayPal, Skrill and Neteller are the three big names in the eWallet game. They’re designed for online transactions, which means deposits and withdrawals are processed within 24 hours.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay: mobile gaming has become increasingly popular over the last decade, which is why more and more Irish online casinos are incorporating Apple Pay and Google Pay. As well as almost instant withdrawals, these one-tap payment options connect seamlessly to your chosen casino for increased security.
  • Prepaid cards: anyone who wants to keep their bank account and casino account separate can use prepaid cards such as Cash to Code. You can pay for a voucher code in cash at participating stores or online. Enter that code on your chosen casino’s cashier page, and the funds will be credited to your account.
  • Cryptocurrency: Bitcoin et al. are the new kids on the payment block. As decentralised payment methods, cryptocurrencies allow you to make instant and anonymous deposits and withdrawals.

Most popular casino games in Ireland

We said earlier that games are the foundation of every online casino. Here’s a rundown of the most popular games and what makes them entertaining:

  • Slots: slots offer a simple and speedy way to win prizes. All you have to do when you play slots such as Starburst and Gonzo’s Quest is set your bet and tap to spin the reels. Match three or more symbols, and you win a prize.
  • Jackpot slots: progressive jackpot slots take prizes to a new level. The main features are the same as video slots, but the top prize increases as people place bets. This means the payouts for games such as Mega Moolah are worth upwards of €1 million.
  • Poker: casino poker is played against the house instead of other people. This means you don’t need to worry about bluffing. All you have to do in games such as Caribbean Stud, Casino Hold’em and Jacks or Better is make ranked poker hands.
  • Baccarat: bet on the Banker or the Player and win 1x if your pick gets the best total (nine is the best total). Bet on a tie and win 8x. Baccarat has one of the lowest house edges.
  • Roulette: European, American and French roulette are games of options. You can bet on specific numbers or groups of numbers. In line with this, prizes range from 1x to 35x. Novel variants, such as Lightning roulette, have bonus features that give you a chance to win upwards of 1,000x.
  • Blackjack: Vegas and Atlantic rules blackjack are card games where the aim is to get closer to 21 than the dealer. The mechanics of blackjack allow players to reduce what’s already a low house edge by making mathematically correct moves.
  • Game shows: live casino games have evolved. Alongside classics such as blackjack and roulette are live game shows. Dream Catcher and other prize wheel games have been joined by live versions of slots, lotteries, keno and other games.
  • Slingo: what do you get when you combine bingo with slot games? Slingo. Themed variants, including Slingo XXXtreme, are fast-paced and offer big prizes.
  • Crash games: Aviator and other popular crash games put your nerve and timing to the test. A game starts with an object taking flight. A prize multiplier increases in sync with the object’s altitude, but it won’t fly forever. You have to collect a prize before the object crashes, and you lose everything.

🤔 How to make the most of your online casino experience: Tips and tricks

We want you to get maximum value from your time online. Naturally, this means giving yourself the best chance to win money, but it also means having fun. The following tips will help you succeed in both ways:

1. Accept that there are things you can’t control

Gambling is unpredictable. That’s what makes it exciting and entertaining. Even though there are mathematically correct moves in certain games, you won’t win every time.

Without getting too deep into it, there are expected long-term outcomes for every move. Results in the short term can fluctuate around this expected outcome.

However, over time, the overall result will converge on the expected outcome. Accept this fact, and you’ll be less stressed when you play any casino game online.

2. Always play responsibly

The fact that you can’t control the natural ups and downs of gambling means you shouldn’t risk more than you can afford to lose. Playing responsibly requires three things:

  1. Ensure your bankroll only consists of money you can afford to lose.
  2. Betting small amounts relative to your bankroll.
  3. Having a win/loss limit and stopping when you get too emotional.

Keep these things in mind, and variance won’t take as much of a toll on your bankroll.

3. Become a bonus hunter

Casino bonuses offer more funds for your bankroll. Any time you can lock up a more returns in the uncertain world of gambling, take it. Our only other tip here is to read the wagering requirements.

This prevents you from making mistakes that can cause you to forfeit a bonus. It also allows you to check that the bonus’s playthrough isn’t excessive. Anything around the 40x mark is acceptable for a playthrough.

4. Slots win in many ways

Every popular online casino in Ireland has thousands of slots. There’s a reason for this: because they have the best payout potential. In addition to offering the biggest prizes, you can wager more per hour on slots than any other game.

Finally, slots allow you to clear bonuses faster. They’re also linked to special promotions, such as Pragmatic Play’s Drops & Wins, which pays millions of Euros in bonus prizes every month.

5. Stick to legit online casinos

You should always use licensed casinos. The good news is that all of our recommended IE online casinos are licensed. Having an online gambling licence means the operator meets strict standards with regard to safety, integrity and fairness.

FAQ about online casino sites in Ireland

Before you sample what Ireland’s top online casino sites have to offer, we want to make sure you’re comfortable with what awaits. The following FAQs should tie up any loose ends so you can play with complete confidence.

1. Do you pay tax on gambling winnings in Ireland?

Gambling winnings are subject to income tax in Ireland. There are gambling taxes in Ireland, including a 2% levy for casino games. However, if you’re a recreational player rather than a professional whose sole income is from gambling, you shouldn’t be liable for tax.

2. How are gambling sites regulated in Ireland?

Gambling sites must be licensed by an established regulator to be legal in Ireland. The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland currently oversees the industry, but casinos don’t have to be licensed by the organisation. It’s legal for Irish casino players to use offshore sites.

3. Are online casinos safe?

Online casinos are safe if you stick to licensed and regulated platforms. Online gambling licenses show that an operator meets various standards with regard to safety and security. Licensed operators must also have their games certified as fair by independent companies.

4. How do I choose a reliable online casino?

The best way to find reliable, reputable and high-quality online casinos is to follow the advice of industry experts. The gambling experts at Sun IE have been working in the industry for more than a decade. They understand the law, what players want and everything that goes into creating a world-class product.

5. Do online casinos have mobile apps?

Some online casinos have native apps, and some don’t, but all of them are available on mobile devices. Even if your chosen casino doesn’t have an iOS/Android app, you can still log into your account, make deposits, claim bonuses, play games, and collect your winnings via an optimised mobile site. You can even streamline the process by adding a shortcut to a smartphone’s home screen.

‘Do not touch’ – Health alert issued over seagulls & other wild sea birds as pet owners urged to ‘keep dogs on lead’

HEALTH chiefs have warned of the danger of touching sick or dead wild birds – over risks of bird flu.

In recent weeks, groups of dead wild sea birds have been discovered off the west coast of Ireland.

EMBARGOED TO 0001 MONDAY JULY 25 The National Trust team of rangers clear deceased birds from Staple Island, one of the Outer Group of the Farne Islands, off the coast of Northumberland, where the impact of Avian Influenza (bird flu) is having a devastating effect on one of the UK's best known and important seabird colonies with 3104 carcasses recovered by rangers so far. The National Trust, who care for the islands, have warned this number could be the "tip of the iceberg" as cliff nesting birds, including guillemots and kittiwakes, will have fallen and been lost to the sea. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre said avian influenza is a type of influenza that mainly affects wild birds and poultry.

But it can also occasionally infect some mammals and humans.

Officials at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine warned of the disease today.

They said: “Avian Influenza Bird flu is circulating in sea birds.

“Do not pick up or touch sick or dead wild birds, and keep your pets away from them.

“If you find a sick or dead wild bird, you can report it using the Avian Influenza Wild Bird reporting App.”

The HSE is echoing advice from the department “not to touch or handle” any sick or dead wild birds.

While there are many strains of HPAI viruses, the H5N1 virus is considered the “most serious” for both birds and humans.

There have been almost 1,000 human cases of H5N1, half of whom have died, since 2003.

The HSPC said it is “very unusual” for people to catch bird flu but it can happen.

They said: “Currently, it is hard to catch avian influenza from a bird or animal, and there is no evidence that it can be passed between people, but if the virus mutates (changes) this may happen in the future.”

HSPC Advice

Why it's important to prevent people getting H5N1:

  1. It can – rarely – produce serious disease in people
  2. Mixing of avian influenza and seasonal flu in a person could allow the virus to mutate and become better at spreading between people
  3. If a person is infected with HPAI, it could be passed from people to Irish poultry flocks leading to severe disease among birds.

Minister for Agriculture Martin Heyden told RTE that flocks of dead birds were discovered in some counties.

He said: “In the past three weeks, there have been a number of reports of groups of dead wild sea birds washing up on shorelines in counties Kerry, Clare and Galway.

“In two instances, a wild sea bird which washed up on a beach tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza virus, with one case in Kerry and one in Galway.”

If a person picks up or handles infected, sick or dead wild birds, they will be monitored for a period of 10 days.

They may be offered antiviral medication and vaccination if they are considered to be at risk.

Rarely seen celeb son calls his famous mum to prove they’re related – but can you guess who his Hollywood parent is?

THE SON of a rarely-seen celeb called his famous mum to prove they’re related in a hilarious video.

Natalie Portman, 44, usually keeps her family life private while living in Paris with Aleph and eight-year-old Amalia, who she shares with her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, 48.

While out in the French capital, Aleph approached Swedish star Marlon who was filming content, and casually dropped a surprising fact.

He asked, “You know Star Wars? Padmé Amidala? Well, that’s my mom.”

Then he cheekily added, “Can you give a shoutout to my mom?”

To back up his claim, Aleph pulled out family photos from his phone.

Marlon, clearly taken aback, asked, “That’s your mom?!” to which Aleph confidently replied, “Yeah, that’s my mom.”

Taking full advantage of the moment, Marlon asked Aleph to call Natalie herself.

Moments later, the actress appeared on screen as Aleph said, “Mom, do you want to say hi to Marlon?”

Natalie, who was getting her hair done at the time, greeted the YouTuber warmly: “Hi, I’m sorry for disturbing you, I just want to say hi real quick.”

Marlon replied, “Nice to meet you,” adding, “I’m here with your son real quick, we’re about to play a little football.”

Natalie wished them well despite not being able to hear much, saying, “But I hope you’re having a great day.”

After some small talk, she said goodbye with a friendly, “Have a good one.”

Sharing the story with his 395,000 subscribers, Marlon admitted he was blown away.

“When I was growing up and watched Star Wars really heavily, she was my biggest crush,” he said.

“Very beautiful woman. Very good son. I just want to respectfully say that. That’s insane.”

Natalie, who has lived in Paris since 2014, divorced Benjamin Millepied after 11 years of marriage in 2024.

She met Benjamin — a dancer and director — on the set of 2010 film Black Swan.

He choreographed the ballet-themed movie, for which Natalie won a Best Actress Oscar.

The couple married in 2012 and have two kids.

Israel-born American actress Natalie filed for divorce in 2023, and it was finalised earlier this year in France, where the couple lived together.

And Natalie, who made her acting debut aged 12 in Leon, revealed this year that Rihanna shared some kind words to help her through her divorce.

The Star Wars actress met the 36-year-old for the first time at Paris Fashion Week in January and, after fangirling together, the singer told Natalie something that created a “formative moment.”

In the clip, caught on camera, Natalie, 43, told Rihanna, “I love you” who in return, received the reply, “I am a f**king fan.”

The Black Swan star continued, “I’m gonna faint. I’m gonna black out.

“I love you and I listen to your music all the time… You’re just such a queen. Thank you,” Natalie continued to praise the Fenty founder.

On Monday, Natalie told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that Rihanna had called her “one of the hottest b****** in Hollywood.

“I think every woman going through a divorce should get to have Rihanna say to her that she’s a bad b****,” she said.

Jimmy then got to his feet and gave her loud applause.

After they showed the clip of her with Rihanna, Natalie said, “It was exactly what I needed.

“It was a formative moment in my life,” she added.

I don’t send my kids to school when it’s too hot… trolls say it’s ‘why we’ve got brats now’ but I’m not soft

A MUM has come under fire for raising ”brats” after she revealed she didn’t send her kids to school as the heat was ”unbearable”.

Mother-of-three Jade was slammed after confessing her kids stayed at home at the start of this week, when temperatures across the UK soared to 35C.

During what’s been the hottest day of the year so far, Jade said that while her opinion was ”unpopular”, the weather was simply ”unbearable”.

Although even Jade’s friends have dubbed her ”too soft” for letting her three boys stay at home, her kids have allegedly suffered from the heatwave before.

Explaining herself, Jade said: ”Some schools still don’t let the children have their water bottles on the table, so they’re not going to be keeping hydrated.

”There is one fan – sometimes no fans – in the whole classroom.

”And twice now I’ve been called up by the school during the summer heatwave period where my children have gone faint because they’re that hot.”

According to the mum, who’s since garnered a mixed bag of responses, there are 30 children in each classroom.

”I don’t think it’s unreasonable but I’m being called soft.

”I don’t think that’s soft – I think that’s smart.”

According to the GOV UK guidance, schools are typically not advised to close for the day when it’s hot.

They stated: ”This is because school attendance is the best way for pupils to learn and reach their potential, and hot weather can usually be managed safely.

”School leaders should make sure they take any steps necessary to make sure children are safe and comfortable.”

When it comes to clothing, ”schools could consider relaxing uniform rules during hot weather to make sure pupils are comfortable”.

The experts advise that children should ”wear loose, light-coloured clothing to help keep cool and sunhats with wide brims”.

Teachers should also encourage children to take off their blazers and jumpers.

How to keep cool in hot weather

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS...

Keep out of the heat if you can.

If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Cool yourself down.

Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

Keep your living space cool.

Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.

When outdoors, children should be encouraged to stay in the shade as much as possible.

Sunscreen with high sun protection factors should be used to protect skin.

Uploaded less than 24 hours ago, the video, posted under the username @jades.mum.life, has already taken the internet by storm.

Amassing Jade close to 82k views and almost 2,000 likes, the clip has also sparked a fierce debate, with many disagreeing with the mum’s approach.

‘Parents are way too soft’

One critic said: ”Reasons like this should be why we get fined.”

Someone else thought: ”Parents are way too soft on their kids nowadays, that’s why we’ve got a bunch of brats roaming the street with knives and no respect.”

A third chimed in: ”Any excuse to keep them off school these days.”

”Personally I think we’re snowflake generation, we all went to school when we had heatwaves no fans just got on with it!” a viewer added.

Meanwhile, a supportive viewer hit back at the critics, saying: ”This is not a BIT of heat. It’s unbearable.

”You were able to keep them off and I think you were right to do so.”

A fellow mum shared her opinion, writing: ”My daughter got heatstroke, no laughing matter, you did good keeping them off.”

”As a TA, with no air conditioning, you made the right decision, no learning happened today. The children were too uncomfortable to concentrate and so were the adults,” a teacher’s assistant chimed in.
