Bear Hunt’s Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen reveals special treatment from Netflix crew and admits what he smuggled into camp

LAURENCE Llewelyn-Bowen has revealed the special treatment he received from the Celebrity Bear Hunt crew while filming the Netflix show last year.

Interior designer Laurence, 59, admitted he managed to smuggle in an array of personal items – despite strict bans on home luxuries.

Speaking to The Sun at the show’s Leicester Square screening yesterday, Laurence cheekily boasted about not being parted with his own clothes, moisturiser, sunglasses, and even his signature fragrance while roughing it in the Costa Rican jungle.

He said: “I had quite a lot with me actually. I seem to be about the only one that smuggled everything in. I was like Mr Bridger in The Italian Job.

“I had most of my own clothes, I had my own moisturiser, my own sunglasses, I had my own fragrance.”

When asked how he managed to pull off the sneaky move, he simply quipped, “I don’t know. How do I get away with anything?”

Despite strict regulations on what contestants could bring, Laurence credited an inside source with helping him out.

The TV personality continued: “I think they probably did [check my bags].

“Well, no actually, I had a spy in the House of Love because Susie, the costume lady, said she couldn’t bear the idea of me wearing high street so I managed to get my own stuff in…

“Which is good because I think there are basic hygiene issues about wearing high street, I’m happy to say.

“And the high street is very pleased. I think if I wore high street, the high street would go.”

Not all of his co-stars were as lucky, with Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas expressing his frustration at the strict rules.

He told us: “I’m just too much of a goody two shoes. ‘We’re not allowed.’ I would have [brought banned items in]. I mean, that would have been really nice.

“I think they were quite strict. We weren’t allowed much.”

Lottie Moss was equally surprised at Laurence’s revelation, admitting she had no idea smuggling was even an option.

She complained: “Oh my god, no! I didn’t know you could!

“They even told us that we couldn’t bring our own clothes in. So, I was like, ‘Fine, I won’t.’ And then I saw some of the others did, and I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’

“I could have brought so many cute outfits if I’d known.”

Celebrity Bear Hunt sees some of the UK’s biggest names fly to Costa Rica to take part in a slew of tough-challenges, all whilst hoping to evade the capture of explorer Bear Grylls.

The Sun was the first to reveal the full line-up last year, with Mel B, Boris Becker, Una Healy and Shirley Ballas competing – and Holly Willoughby presenting.

Netflix says about the show: “Holly Willoughby hosts this action-packed competition show that sees a group of unlikely celebrities dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for one of the world’s most fearsome predators – Bear Grylls.

“Bear believes there’s an action hero inside us all – even the celebs – but how strong is their will to survive?

“As Bear puts them through their paces, those who fail to impress will face the dreaded Bear Hunt.

“A brutal game of cat and mouse where they’ll be hunted down by Bear himself and, if captured, face elimination from the show.”

  • Celebrity Bear Hunt is now available to stream on Netflix.

Emmerdale slapped with warning ahead of tonight’s harrowing episode after April Windsor’s tragic fate was revealed

EMMERDALE viewers will be met with a warning on tonight’s episode as the dramatic storyline with April Windsor continues.

Emmerdale viewers watched weeks ago as April disappeared on Christmas Day, with little clues about where she would go.

ITV viewers have already been left heartbroken at April’s tragic storyline[/caption]

However viewers have now learnt that she has been sleeping rough, and faced a tragic outcome as she was pregnant and then had a stillbirth whilst hiding out in a gym toilet.

The devastating scenes saw a heartbroken April telling her baby she was sorry.

With the tragic storyline set to continue, ITV has put a warning ahead of tonight’s episode to let viewers know there will be more distressing scenes.

The message, currently on its Hub site, reads: “With scenes of medical distress and themes of self harm and abuse.”

Mark Charnock – who plays Marlon Dingle, April’s dad, told the Mirror things are not straightforward when April returns home.

Viewers watched as a worried Marlon sat by April’s bedside in hospital, as the actor explained: “It’s not straightforward; it’s almost being like missing in your house. The old them has gone.

“They’re all treading on egg shells – it’s not just Marlon – and I was saying before, it’s like they’ve been searching this human haystack and now they’ve got the needle back.

“It’s just a different being, with different reference points and a different attitude.”

As April’s journey is set to continue, soap fans are left wondering if the father of her baby will be revealed in an upcoming episode.

Taking to social media, one fan was convinced it must be her friend Arthur as they wrote: “Which child from the village is the father of April’s baby? I think it could be Arthur.”

Another shared: “Is Arthur the father !???”

However some thought it could be much more sinister and explain why April ran, as one suggested she could have been groomed by an older man online.

Emmerdale continues on ITV1 and ITVX.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.

MARK Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates take on the shared responsibility of hosting Match of the Day from next season.

According to reports, they will be paid less than pundit Alan Shearer, who was declared as earning between £445,000-£449,999 for the 2022-23 and £380,000 last year.

While in contrast, their salary pales into comparison to Gary Lineker’s mega wage.

But, who tops the ultimate sports presenters’ rich list?

Let SunSport reveal all from numbers crunched online of their estimate net worths.

    10. Clare Balding, £1million

A staple of our TV screens for decades, Balding has worked on horse racing for Channel 4, and reported for the Beeb’s Olympic coverage a staggering SEVEN times!

Balding also appeared on Today at Wimbledon from 2015, eventually taking over from Sue Barker as lead presenter, after she retired in 2022.

Her interview skills were put to the best by BT Sport, who gave her her own show.

On The Clare Balding Show, she interviewed sporting superstars including Mike Tyson, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Lewis Hamilton, and Tom Daley.

    9. Jeff Stelling, £2million

The ultimate professional, Stelling was the eyes and ears of football fans wanting updates on their teams for years on Saturday afternoons.

He famously fronted Soccer Saturday – keeping pundits like Paul Merson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt Le Tissier in check.

Stelling has taken his stories from the sports world on tour around the country with his own stage show.

He currently fronts talkSPORT’s breakfast show.

    8. Alex Scott, £2million

Poor Alex appears to have been snubbed by the Beeb of late.

Not only was she left off the coverage for the Paris Olympics, the former footballer wasn’t chosen as one of the three new Match of the Day presenters either.

Despite her daring outfits livening up Football Focus, the show’s dwindling viewing figures have led to reports suggesting it could soon be axed.

Scott’s wealth has been boosted by appearances on Strictly Come Dancing and she’s lucky in love – dating pop star Jess Glynne.

    7. Laura Woods, £2.5million

Woods worked her way to the top by starting as a runner on Sky Sports.

But she became a household name thanks to her brilliant talkSPORT breakfast show.

Woods is now the leading host for TNT Sports’ Champions League coverage, as well as the face of ITV’s football coverage.

She is currently enjoying materninty leave after giving birth to her first child, little boy Leo.

    6. David Jones, £3million

David Jones fronts the live coverage of Super Sunday and Monday Night Football.

Over the years, he’s kept tempers in check with pundits such as Roy Keane and Graeme Souness, although he had on-screen spats with the latter.

Jones is a Sky Sports News OG – joining the channel for their launch in 1998 alongside Georgie Thompson.

Outside of presenting, he has a role as non-executive director of his beloved Sunderland AFC.

    5. Mark Pougatch, £3.5million

Calm and collected Pougatch fronts ITV’s major coverage of both football and rugby.

He replaced Adrian Chiles as ITV’s chief football presenter six years ago to cover Champions League and England fixtures.

Before that, he spent 22 years at BBC Radio 5 Live.

He also joined BT Sport in the summer of 2016 to host the show BT Sport Score, to rival Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday.

    4. Gabby Logan, £4million

Gabby is a stalwart when it comes to presenting sport shows on our box.

From 2007, she started presenting for BBC sport and was used as a replacement for Lineker on Match Of The Day.

She is the face of athletics on the channel and has presented the Olympics, London Marathon, Commonwealth Games and World Athletics Championships’ coverage.

She was also part of the BBC’s presenting team for Euro 2024, which made her totally suitable for her upcoming role sharing MOTD hosting duties.

    3. Mark Chapman, £4million

Chappers is the purist’s host for the BBC.

His dry wit and knowledge of the game has been admired by fans who tune into Match of the Day 2 show on a Sunday.

Chapman also hosts Sports Report on BBC 5 Live, one of the longest-running programmes on British radio, and the world’s longest-running sports radio programme, plus The Monday Night Club.

In 2023, he joined Sky Sports to present their Carabao Cup output.

    2. Kelly Cates, £8million

Cates is riding high in her career, after revealing she is making the switch from Sky to BBC for Match of the Day.

The much-loved football presenter is the daughter of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.

She was one of the OG Sky Sports News presenters, when that launched in the late 90s.

Like Chapman, Cates has also recorded shows on BBC 5 Live.

    1. Gary Lineker, £30million

The winner, by some way, is BBC’s highest paid presenter.

Lineker, 62, began his TV journey on comedy quiz show They Think It’s All Over as a team captain.

In 1999, the former England star replaced Des Lynam as the anchorman for all football coverage and he fronts Match of the Day.

According to the latest figures, Lineker is paid £1.35million a year by the BBC.

Better still, his podcast empire – Goalhanger Podcasts – is raking in a fortune.
