Emmerdale legend SACKED as rival blackmails boss into driving him out of the village

AN Emmerdale legend is brutally sacked next week – after a scheming rival blackmails their boss into forcing them out of the village.

The shock twist leaves residents reeling as the long-time character is shown the door in a savage power move that could change everything.

Dodgy John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has finally shown his true colours in Emmerdale – by plotting to get rid of his own brother Robert (Ryan Hawley) just days after his shock return.

Robert rocked up in the village after being released from prison, determined to reconnect with his family – but not everyone gave him a warm welcome.

And it didn’t take long for tensions to explode, with John secretly threatening his brother before his release… and now dragging Caleb (William Ash) into a sneaky revenge plan.

But things quickly turned sour as Robert tried to warn sister Vic (Isabel Hodgins) to steer clear of John – only for her to brush it off, accusing him of being jealous.

Despite the drama, Robert tried to keep his head down and even landed a trial shift at Caleb’s depot – much to the fury of John and Aaron (Danny Miller), who clearly didn’t want him back.

In tonight’s (Monday) episode, Robert rocked up late for his first day but managed to impress Caleb by name-dropping a few handy business contacts – proving he still knows how to hustle in the Dales.

During his lunch break, Robert was none the wiser as Caleb opened the door to a furious John, who stormed in still raging about his brother’s return.

Fuming that Robert had been given a shot at the depot, John told Caleb he refused to work alongside him – but when pushed for a proper reason, he had nothing to offer.

Instead, John played dirty – and pulled out the big guns.

Reminding Caleb that he helped cover up the murder of Anthony Fox earlier this year, John coldly said he owed him… and it was time to cash in.

To Caleb, it was a dirty move – but to viewers, it was classic John.

With no other option, Caleb backed down and spun a lie that brought Robert’s trial to an abrupt end.

But Robert wasn’t fooled.

After a sly remark from Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), he clocked that Caleb had been forced to dump him – and he knew exactly who was behind it.

Most devastating soap deaths

SOAP viewers are frequently left heartbroken after watching some of their favourite characters bite the dust.

Here is a list of the most devastating deaths that have taken place in soapland over the years.

EASTENDERS

Barry Evans – Evil Janine (Charlie Brooks) lured her trusting fiance to Scotland for a quickie marriage after learning he was dying.

Her plan to inherit Barry’s fortune was thwarted when Barry told her that the doctors had mixed up his medical files.

Furious that she was no longer set for a windfall, she pushed Barry off a cliff after telling him their love was “fake”.

Bradley Branning – Bradley was accused of killing Stacey Slater’s rapist Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb) after he punched him twice on the night he died.

He was spotted in the Square by a police woman who chased him up a fire escape.

Bradley lost his balance and tragically plunged to his death.

CORONATION STREET

Tina McIntyre – Tina was getting it on with Peter Barlow – despite him being married to Carla Connor.

When she threatened to reveal the truth, Carla’s brother Rob got into a physical altercation with her.

Tina lost her footing and fell off a balcony – then warned Rob she was going to tell the cops he pushed her.

In a panic, Rob brutally clobbered her over the head with a metal pipe.

Molly Dobbs – Molly was one of the victims in Corrie’s 2010 tram crash, alongside Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold).

Married to Tyrone (Alan Halsall), Molly had been having an affair with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) in the months before her death.

This resulted in the birth of their son, Jack (Kyran Bowes), who was named after Jack Duckworth.

As fate would have it, Kevin’s wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) was by Molly’s side in her final moments.

Sally was stunned as Molly confessed Kevin was Jack’s father, before dying of her injuries.

Vera Duckworth – Having appeared regularly in Corrie since the 1970s, there was no denying Vera Duckworth was an iconic character.

Alongside her husband Jack, the pair formed one of the soap’s most beloved couples.

Viewers were heartbroken when Vera was killed off in 2008, being discovered having passed away peacefully in her chair.

Liz Dawn, who played Vera, made a brief return two years later for Bill Tarmey’s exit as Jack.

Paul Foreman – Fans were heartbroken when Paul Foreman succumbed to his illness after battling motor neurone disease.

Introduced in 2018 as David Platt’s (Jack P. Shepherd) cellmate, he later embarked on a romance – and marriage – with vicar Billy Mayhew.

The MND storyline was announced in 2023 – with the expectation it would result in the character’s death.

EMMERDALE

Sarah Sugden – After the family got into financial problems, Sarah’s son Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) decided to make some quick cash from an insurance company by setting fire to the Sugden barn.

He didn’t realise his mum was inside the building, and she got trapped in the blaze.

Nine villagers – The shocking 1993 plane crash episode brought in 18 million viewers for Emmerdale.

Mark Hughes was killed by a falling wall, Archie Brooks was burned by jet fuel, Elizabeth Pollard was killed by debris and newcomer Leonard Kempinski died in a car crash caused by the crash.

Five other non-recurring characters from the village also died.

HOLLYOAKS

Carmel McQueen – The talented singer died in shocking scenes when a train crashed into a her family’s car.

Carmel managed to free her cousin Theresa from the rubble – but got stuck in it herself.

Moments later the train exploded and Carmel died in the arms of her family members, promising to be their guardian angel.

Storming out onto the street, Robert confronted John and the pair came to blows in a heated showdown, only for Vic to burst in and break it up just in time.

As the dust settled, a seething John was left plotting his next move – convinced Robert needs to vanish for good.

But just how far will John go to get rid of his brother for good?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.

Muireann told how the buying process in Australia is much easier

The search for her forever home wasn’t easy and Muireann has even recalled people crying at viewings.

After blood, sweat and tears, the popular presenter finally went sale agreed and became a home owner earlier this month.

But, even after securing her first-ever property, the 41-year-old has told how “hopeless” the buying process feels.

Speaking on Louise Cooney’s podcast, Open Book, Muireann said: “It just feels more than dysfunctional, it feels very hopeless for an awful lot of people.”

She admitted: “But it’s just that the process is the wild, wild west.”

The TV star explained how her close pals who live in Australia can’t comprehend the struggle of buying a home.

Muireann explained: “They’re like, ‘The house just goes up, this is the price of the house, someone bids and there you go, you get yourself a house.

“It’s done in like 10 days.”

The breakfast show host highlighted how a lack of “supply” is the main problem with the Irish housing market.

But, noted that length of the buying process is also a tough factor.

The Virgin Media star even reminisced on her own experience with viewing homes.

She said: “One woman was pregnant and she also had a child with her. The house was already 140,000 over the asking price and she just wept, it was crazy.”

Beside the struggle of buying a home, Muireann has also had a tough time with renovating her new pad.

Whilst the new home is being renovated Muireann and her partner will remain in their Dublin city home which they have lived in since 2017.

HOUSE THAT?

Taking to Instagram, the star expressed her immense struggle with packing up all her belongings for the new property.

The Limerick lady said: “Probably the most viscerally horrible thing to ever happen to me was getting the coil. Awful, I hated it, it should be given under general anastethic.

“But, would I chose to have that procedure done everyday rather than clearing out my house and packing up, yes.”

The Irish host highlighted how she had been living in her current home since 2017, but had found items that belonged to her in 2003.

She cried: “I didn’t even live in Dublin in 2003, how did you get in to this house? Why are you here? Do you spark joy in my life? No!”

Muireann shook her head ashamedly and added: “Look I know I am an over consumer, it is a reckoning and I’m having a bit of an existential crisis about that right now.”

THE 1% Club has knocked out 8 players with an ‘easy’ picture question – but could you solve it in 30 seconds?

The popular quiz show, fronted by Lee Mack, is known for leaving players with their minds boggling thanks to its tough questions as the game goes on.

Screenshot of a geometry puzzle: "You walk 10 miles northeast, then turn south and walk a further 20 miles. You then walk in a straight line back to your starting point. What shape have you just made?"
The question asked what shape you would make if you followed the directions

However for most of the 100 players, they manage to sail through the first few round which are deemed easy thanks to most of the general public being able to correctly answer them.

But for one episode of the Saturday night quiz favourite, eight people fell at an early hurdle.

They all failed to correctly identify the answer to the 80% question – which was all about shapes.

Reading the question aloud, Lee said: “You walk 10 miles northeast, then turn south and walk a further 20 miles.

“You then walk in a straight line back to your starting point. What shape do you make?”

With 30 seconds on the clock, the players did their best to attempt to answer the question.

As Lee joked that if he walked that far he’d have to call an Uber.

Once the time was up, Lee revealed that eight people had been knocked out and that the answer was a triangle.

Meanwhile, a recent episode of the show saw the studio filled with celebrities instead of members of the public.

The likes of Chris Hughes, I’m a Celeb winner Jill Scott, TV presenter Paddy McGuinness and Tommy Fury all took part.

Other celeb names included Scarlette DouglassIain Stirling and Westlife singer Brian McFadden.

However, things took an interesting turn on the show when Lee got to the 60% question.

He asked: “Which four-letter word fills all the gaps to create footballing phrases?”

Look here to find out what happened.

The 1% Club's Most Difficult Questions

The 1% Club sees 100 contestants try and make it to the 1% question and be in with a chance to win a share of the jackpot. Here are just some of the show's most difficult teasers.

  • Players had to compare and contrast three images of butterflies then explain which of the butterflies were exactly the same on both sides. Find the image and answer here.
  • Players were shown groups of six symbols then asked which were in the same order whether you read them from left to right or right to left. Find the image and answer here.
  • Players were asked how many different combinations were there of displaying four digits on one hand. Find the answer here.
  • Peter had recently found his old diary that he’d written in secret code but he couldn’t remember how to decipher what he wrote. Players were asked to crack the code and find out what the bold word was. WH89 I GR1W UP I WA92 21 B8 A 5L1RI72. Find the image and answer here.
  • A 1% question was based on a grid of numbers going in ascending order from 1 to 49.  Starting on 25, the middle square, SEEN took you to square 27. From there, NEW took you to 20. From there, which square would SEWN take you to? Find the image and the answer here.

Elsewhere, The 1% Club fans called out a ‘difficult’ question on ITV and insisted the correct answer ‘can’t be done’ – but would you get it?

And a contestant on the show was left shocked by a strict rule that means you can be kicked off the show instantly.

Plus, three contestants were left stumped by a tricky letter riddle that whittled down the competition in its final stages.

Finally, a question on The 1% Club wiped out players from the get-go – despite being deemed as easy.
