LA cops forced to delete ‘offensive’ post about US strikes on Iran and admit it was ‘unacceptable’ in lengthy apology

LOS Angeles police have been forced to delete a social media post about the Iran conflict that they called “offensive and inappropriate.”

Cops issued a lengthy apology for speaking out on the issue and falsely suggesting people were killed after the US launched airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared condolences for the “tragic” bombing in a since-deleted post on X on Sunday.

An original version of the post read, “Our hearts go out to the victims and families impacted by the recent bombings in Iran.

“While this tragic event occurred overseas, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is closely monitoring the situation alongside our local, state, and federal partners.”

No deaths have been confirmed in the US airstrikes on Iran.

A few moments after the post was shared, it was edited to remove mentions of Iranian victims and families.

The statement was also edited to say police were “closely monitoring the situation overseas.”

Then, the post was deleted entirely after backlash from social media users, some of whom called the message “embarrassing” and “pathetic.”

LASD then shared an apology for the post.

“We are issuing this statement to formally apologize for an offensive and inappropriate social media post recently posted on our Department social media platforms regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran,” police said.

“This post was unacceptable, made in error, and does not reflect the views of Sheriff Robert G. Luna or the Department.

‘”As a law enforcement agency, we do not comment on foreign policy or military matters.

“Our mission remains solely focused on protecting public safety and serving our diverse communities.”

The department said it launched an internal review to figure out how the post was created and published.

Police also said they’re working to strengthen their social media policies and “ensure that any future communications align with our Department’s standards of professionalism, respect, and accountability,” the apology added.

LA County Sheriff's Department's statement

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department issued the following apology after sharing a post about the US airstrikes on Iran:

We are issuing this statement to formally apologize for an offensive and inappropriate social media post recently posted on our Department social media platforms regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran. This post was unacceptable, made in error, and does not reflect the views of Sheriff Robert G. Luna or the Department. As a law enforcement agency, we do not comment on foreign policy or military matters. Our mission remains solely focused on protecting public safety and serving our diverse communities.

We fully recognize that the words and messages we share carry weight. As law enforcement professionals, we are entrusted with a position of public responsibility, and that trust demands that we communicate accurately. In this instance, we fell short of that expectation, and we are taking quick corrective action. We are committed to learning from this failure and to prevent such incidents from occurring again.

We have updated our social media post and have launched an internal review to determine how it was created and published. Steps are being taken to strengthen our social media oversight protocols and ensure that any future communications align with our Department’s standards of professionalism, respect, and accountability.

We appreciate the continued trust of our community and will work diligently to reaffirm that trust every day.

The LASD hasn’t returned The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.

It comes after Los Angeles law enforcement officials are already facing backlash for how they handled anti-ICE protests in the city, which saw violence and looting break out earlier this month.

The demonstrations were peaceful at first, but escalated after President Donald Trump sent in the National Guard as some rioters lit self-driving vehicles on fire.

Cops and local politicians were slammed for failing to keep the peace during the rallies.

CONFLICT IN IRAN

The LASD’s original post about Iran was shared just hours after Trump entered the conflict between Israel and Iran on Saturday night.

He sent American warplanes to target Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

It’s unclear if there have been any casualties in the attack, but Trump said the sites were “obliterated.”

He wrote on Truth Social after the strikes, “We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

“All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.

“Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”

Iran has warned that there will be consequences for the strikes.

Met Office reveals Glastonbury 2025 forecast as rain blows in after 33C hottest day of year – but will sunshine return?

THE Met Office has revealed the forecast for Glastonbury – with revellers bracing for a variety of weather conditions.

With the festival kicking off on Wednesday, forecasts are taking a dip after hitting highs of 33C at the weekend.

The Met Office has predicted a low chance of rain[/caption]

After the hottest day of the year so far was recorded on Saturday, festival-goers can expect slightly milder weather by the time the festival starts on Wednesday.

When the festival opens on June 25, the Met Office predicts reasonably warm temperatures of around 24C between 1pm and 4pm.

This is then expected to drop off into a cooler evening with temperatures in the high teens.

There is also a 40 per cent chance of rain on Wednesday evening, climbing to 50 per cent between 4am and 7am Thursday morning.

After the weekend’s soaring temperatures, Glastonbury attendees can expect milder weather averaging in the high teens and low twenties.

Festival-goers can take Thursday to get acquainted with the 1500 acre site, with some sunny weather and clouds expected.

The milder weather might be offset by wind chill, as gusts are expected to reach around 30mph between 10am and 4pm on Thursday.

It might pay to be prepared with warmer jackets, suncream and hayfever meds -with a high pollen count and UV rating at 1pm Thursday.

As the music begins on Friday, crowds can expect it to be “cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning” according to the Met Office.

With Supergrass kicking off the Pyramid stage at 12pm, they’ll be met with temperatures of around 22C, as well as relatively high humidity and wind speeds.

By the time The 1975 headline the main stage at 10:15pm, temperatures will have dropped to 17C.

The chance of precipitation remains low throughout the day at around 10 to 20 per cent.

Saturday is expected to bring similarly warm temperatures, reaching highs of 23C.

The Met Office said: “Overcast changing to sunny intervals by late morning.”

The festival is set to finish on a high, with temperatures climbing to 24C.

With Rod Stewart taking the stage for the famous legends slot at 3:45pm, temperatures will peak at around 22C.

By the time Olivia Rodrigo closes the festival out at 9:45pm, audiences can expect a slightly milder 18C.

More than 200,000 people are expected to attend the festival at Somerset’s Worthy Farm.

The mild temperatures come following the hottest day of the year on Saturday June 21 – which reached highs of 33C across the UK.

Brits faced train delays and sunburn over the unusually hot weekend.

In previous years, the festival has left the working farm with churned up dirt and debris, as staff stay behind to help clean up.

There will be no festival next year as it is scheduled as a fallow year to allow the ground to recover.

Eamonn Holmes looks loved up with girlfriend Katie Alexander as they glam up for romantic date at Royal Ascot

EAMONN Holmes and girlfriend Katie Alexander looked loved-up as they enjoyed a romantic date at Royal Ascot.

GB News star Eamonn, 65, wore a classic grey morning suit with a top hat for the occasion.

The couple have been dating since mid-2024[/caption]

Meanwhile, Katie, 43, opted for a white ruffled gown with black polka dots.

Taking to Instagram, Katie shared a selection of snaps from the pair’s sunny day out last week.

She captioned: “A Beautiful day with beautiful people at @ascotracecourse yesterday.

“Fantastic weather, albeit too hot which meant I had to drink more champagne! to stay hydrated!”

One of the sweet snaps showed Eamonn and Katie leaning in for a kiss.

Eamonn began his relationship with marriage counsellor Katie last year.

The Northern Irish broadcaster and ex-wife Ruth Langsford ended their 14-year marriage.

The former couple, who first began dating in 1996, share son Jack, who was born in 2002.

A source said previously: “Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning.

“They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change.

“Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he thinks of as home, but Ruth would never move.

“It became a bone of contention.

“As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night.

“For the past two years they had led separate lives, professionally and personally.”

Earlier this month, Katie warned she “doesn’t forget” in a candid message posted on her Instagram story.

Ruth and Eamonn's relationship timeline

Before the shock split announcement, Ruth and Eamonn seemed like one of the strongest couples on UK TV – even with their signature bickering style.

Here’s how their romance played out…

1997 – The couple first meet after being introduced by mutual friends, two years after Eamonn splits from his first wife, Gabrielle, with whom he has three children.

1997-2002 – To be respectful to Gabrielle, the couple kept their relationship out of the limelight. Ruth told Daily Mail: “I thought it spoke volumes about the sort of man he was, the sort of father he was and the integrity he had. It made me love him more, not less.”

2002 – Ruth and Eamonn welcome their son, Jack, to the family.

2005 – Eamonn finalises his divorce with Gabrielle.

2006 – The pair begin to host Friday episodes of This Morning together.

2010 – Eamonn proposes to Ruth while at the Cheltenham Races, after asking Ruth’s mother for her hand.

June 2010 – Eamonn and Ruth marry at Elvetham Hall, Hampshire.

2016 – Eamonn undergoes a double hip replacement in the first of many health battles.

June 2019 – On This Morning, Ruth and Eamonn say the secret to their happy marriage. Eamonn credits “compromise, consideration and lots of conjugal,” while Ruth said it was “laughter and an equal marriage”.

November 2020 – Ruth and Eamonn are replaced on their regular Friday slot by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary in a ‘show shake-up’.

December 2021 – After a year of being moved to the bank holiday presenting slot, both Eamonn and Ruth left This Morning.

January 2022 – Eamonn debuted on GB News, while Ruth stayed with ITV in her long-standing role on Loose Women.

September 2022 – Eamonn undergoes spinal surgery after years of back issues including a trapped sciatic nerve.

November 2022 – Eamonn falls down the stairs of his Surrey home with Ruth and breaks his shoulder, requiring a new operation.

September 2023 – Eamonn has a spine and neck stretching procedure as part of his year-long recovery.

May 2024 – Ruth and Eamonn announce they have split after 14 years of marriage and a 27-year relationship.

September 2024 – Eamonn was spotted on a luxury holiday in Barcelona with his new girlfriend Katie Alexander. Ruth calls in a ‘fierce’ divorce lawyer.

She took to her account to admit 2024 had been “the year of hell” with “lies about me and death threats from people who have never met me.”

She added: “Not only did my mental health suffer but also my childrens’ did.

“One thing I don’t do is forget.

“But a huge thank you to my friends and family who know me, and the truth, and have supported me through the past year.”

Paige, 32, has previously insisted that she performs better on the course when wearing more revealing clothes.

It is this style that has seen her build a fanbase of 4million followers on Instagram.

She has also got another 1million followers on X, which is where she made her point yet again.

She wrote: “If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I have this working theory that I play better when I wear less clothes.

“Can confirm that science is right once again. I played like s***.”

Her followers have all come up with the same idea to get the stunning blonde below par.

One posted: “Using that theory then, playing naked would give you the best chance of breaking par.

“Is this something we’d see on YouTube or Golf Channel?”

A second wrote: “I have a grand idea then…”

A third commented: “If this is true then I have an idea.”

A fourth said: “I concur, more clothes will affect your swing and stance.”

Another added: “Classic wardrobe interference. Next round: less fabric, more fire.”

Meanwhile, Paige recently put rumours to bed that she was involved in a hilarious golf buggy blunder.

A video went viral of a woman, with a resemblance to the influencer, falling from a buggy while driving on a course.

She said: “I would like to clear up the speculation. This is not me.

“We all know I wouldn’t be wearing a polo.”

Why police were called to first Dunnes Stores opening

BETWEEN the weekly food shops and bargain fashion - Dunnes Stores is a staple retailer in Irish households.

But this wasn’t always the case, and when the initial branch of the shop opened its doors in 1944 it caused quite the stir

On March 31 of the year, Ben Dunne opened the first ever Dunnes Stores on St Patrick’s Street in Co Cork

Locals quickly learned of the grand opening and flooded into the store in what the retailer’s archives recall as a “shopping frenzy.”

The bargain clothing on sale inside the new store at “pre-war prices” was one of the factors cited for the buzz.

During the chaos a window was forced in and Gardai were called to the scene.

Cops worked to deal with the eager crowds and keep shoppers calm and safe before they made it into the store for their first Dunnes experience.

Fast forward some 80 years, the business now employs over 18,000 people and although an opening of a Dunnes branch hasn’t caused quite as much stir since the very first one, it has cemented its place as one of the nation’s leading retailers

Dunnes Stores now has 138 stores across Europe:

  • 118 in the Republic of Ireland,
  • 15 in Northern Ireland
  • Five stores in Spain

‘Could lead to denial’ warning for 3 key Irish groups travelling to USA as new social media rule confirmed

STUDENTS hoping to travel to the States this summer on a J1 visa will have their social media and online presence “thoroughly vetted” under new changes announced by the American Embassy in Ireland.

Thousands of Irish college students travel to the States every summer to work as part of the famous J1 visa programme.

The Trump administration previously paused visa applications[/caption]

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump froze all student visa applications which left Irish students in the application process stuck in limbo.

The U.S Embassy in Ireland issued a statement to announce that they will be restarting the student visa programme but with new social media checks.

Anyone who wants to apply for an F, M or J student visa to go to the States will have to declare all their social media accounts and switch them to public mode.

Social media pages will then be vetted by US officials.

The Embassy claims that the checks are to ensure people coming into the US “do not intend to harm Americans and our national interests.”

The statement said: “The U.S. Department of State is committed to protecting our nation and our citizens by upholding the highest standards of national security and public safety through our visa process.

“A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right.

“We use all available information in our visa screening and vetting to identify visa applicants who are inadmissible to the United States, including those who pose a threat to U.S. national security.

“Under new guidance, we will conduct a comprehensive and thorough vetting, including online presence, of all student and exchange visitor applicants in the F, M, and J nonimmigrant classifications.

“To facilitate this vetting, all applicants for F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas will be instructed to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media profiles to “public.”

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit.

“Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.

“The U.S. Embassy in Dublin will resume scheduling F, M, and J nonimmigrant visa applications soon.

“Applicants should check our visa scheduling service for appointment availability.

“The link is https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ie/niv

“Every visa adjudication is a national security decision.

VISA ELIGIBILITY

“The United States must be vigilant during the visa issuance process to ensure that those applying for admission into the United States do not intend to harm Americans and our national interests, and that all applicants credibly establish their eligibility for the visa sought, including that they intend to engage in activities consistent with the terms for their admission.”

News website Politico recently reported on an internal cable sent to embassies about these social media searches.

The cable instructs officials to search for any “advocacy for, aid or support for foreign terrorists and other threats to US national security” and “support for unlawful antiemetic harassment or violence.”

And there is currently a ban on visas for people from 12 countries
