ENZO MARESCA claims the heat is hitting Chelsea’s Club World Cup bid because it is “almost impossible to train”.
The Blues boss cut short his final training session ahead of their decisive Group D game with ES Tunis as temperatures neared 40C.

And with Philadelphia under a ‘Code Red’ severe weather alert, it is still likely to be well over 30C when they play in the early hours of Wednesday morning — at 9pm local time.
Chelsea used giant fans to spray cold water over sweltering players during a brief tactical session.
Maresca said: “It is almost impossible to train because of the weather.
“We are just trying to save energy for the game.
“This morning’s session has been very, very short.
“It’s been just about tomorrow’s game, planning for tomorrow and that’s it.
“It’s not easy in these conditions with these temperatures. We are going to try to do our best.”
A draw would take the Blues through to the knockout stages with a likely date against Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Chelsea captain Reece James missed training due to illness.
Maresca said: “It’s difficult to work in these temperatures but we are trying our best and will try to win tomorrow.
“It’s impossible to do a normal session, otherwise you don’t save energy for the game. So the session this morning was quite short.
“We are not training, almost. We are just doing very, very, very short sessions.
“We try just to be clinical and do the right things that we need for game preparation. We have the cooling break during the game which helps a little.”
Nicolas Jackson did not join training as he is banned after his red card in the 3-1 defeat to Flamengo.

THE IRISH cops have travelled to Iceland as part of their ongoing probe into the disappearance of an Icelandic man in Dublin six years ago.
Jon Jonsson, 41, travelled to Ireland to play at the 2019 Dublin Poker Festival, but vanished within 24 hours of arrival.
Jon vanished after leaving the Bonnington Hotel in Dublin six years ago
Investigating detectives made a fresh appeal for information about his sudden disappearance as they recently stepped up the investigation into his disappearance in recent months.
The father of four was reported to have vanished after leaving the Bonnington Hotel on Swords Road in North Dublin in February 2019.
He left his hotel room without his phone, passport and wallet, although he may have had a large sum of cash with him.
Since early March 2019, when Icelandic search and rescue teams searched a defined search area in the city after receiving a tip that suggested he may have gotten into a taxi, the case has made little to no progress.
Five gardai from the Ballymun station will spend the week in Reykjavik, Iceland, interviewing 45 Icelandic citizens in hopes of obtaining information that may help pinpoint his whereabouts.
Detective Superintendent Alan Brady revealed they are there for a number of purposes.
Talking to RTE News, he said: “We came here to interview a large number of people who we think may have some information in relation to where Jon is.
“We’ve also come here to appeal to the Icelandic public for help in finding Jon.
“We believe that whatever happened to Jon did happen to him in Dublin, but the answers to what happened to Jon may lie here amongst the Icelandic community.”
He added: “Jon’s family have been going through heartbreak for the last six and a half years. We’re here to try and find answers for them. No family should have to ensure that they’ve gone through.”
RESPONSE ‘POSITIVE’
Talking to the Iceland Review, Icelandic Detective Eirikur Valberg said: “We’ve contacted nearly everyone on the list provided by the Irish police, and the response has been very positive.
“People are showing up and are willing to give statements.”
However, he declined to comment on whether any of the individuals had any connections to the case or Jon himself.
The interviews are scheduled to take place this week, with Eirikur hoping that they will shed new light on his disappearance.
‘WHERE IS JON?’
He added: “Of course, that is our hope—but we don’t know in advance what will come of this. Still, we wouldn’t be undertaking such extensive efforts if we didn’t believe they could yield results.”
The documentary podcast series ‘Where is Jon?’ (‘Hvar er Jon?’) focused on his sudden disappearance, which was collaboratively produced by Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE and the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service RUV.
In the final episode, which aired in March, the two anonymous letters that are being discussed by the investigating teams were revealed.
It was pointed out that the letters were delivered to the Gardai one year apart, suggesting that Jon may be buried in a garden.
However, the location of the potential site of his burial was not disclosed.
Gardai and Icelandic cops hope to gain information during their interviews

REAL MADRID are losing millions after the Santiago Bernabeu was banned from hosting concerts.
The iconic ground underwent a stunning £1.5billion renovation last year to make it a world-class arena for both football and other events.

Taylor Swift was one of many megastars to perform at the Bernabeu following its opening 12 months ago.
But the project masterminded by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to see the biggest names in music take to their stage has failed.
Neighbours have filed a legal compliant over noise levels and gigs have been cancelled.
The court case remains ongoing and Real Madrid’s bitter rivals Atletico are profiting from it.
Several concerts have switched to their Metropolitano Stadium ten miles down the road.
Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons and AC/DC among those playing at the home of Atleti this summer.
The Bernabeu’s neighbours registered noise levels to be above 90 decibels during the shows last year.
Local Enrique Martínez de Azagra told the BBC that the noise from concerts is different to football atmospheres.

He said: “It is impossible to suffer this kind of noise and it affects our health, it affects migraines, insomnia and heart attacks and it is a criminal offence in our laws.
“Football is a sport that lasts two hours, more or less. The noise is normal. Only when there is a goal, the passion surges.”
Real Madrid are reportedly working on a plan to “soundproof” their stadium.
Yet critics like neighbour Enrique claim it would be “impossible”.
Real Madrid supposedly generate revenue of £1million per day via their stadium through tickets, tours and merchandise sold.

A WELL-WORKED and well-taken goal by veteran striker Liam Boyce brought Derry City further capital gains with this smash-and-grab victory at Richmond Park.
Though they deserved their 1-0 win over Shelbourne at Tolka Park on Friday, Derry rode their luck in Inchicore as Saints could not find a way to goal despite a dominant display.
Derry City beat St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday nightBen McShane/SportsfileIt was St Pat’s third loss on the bounceBen McShane/Sportsfile
Following losses to Shels and Galway United, this marked a third defeat on the bounce for the first time in Stephen Kenny’s 13-month tenure.
It is also four games without a home win and just two victories from their last ten matches as Pat’s remain in the bottom half of the table. Needing a result and a performance after two defeats on the bounce, Saints made two changes from Friday’s 3-1 defeat in Galway.
Seán Hoare replaced Tom Grivosti in defence while attacking midfielder Brandon Kavanagh came in to play behind Mason Melia as Aidan Keena dropped to the bench.
And Kenny’s side showed their positive intent within two minutes when Jay McClelland got forward from left-back to bring a comfortable save from Brian Maher.
Hoare was then given a free header from Kavanagh’s first corner of the night on six minutes, but planted it straight at the Derry keeper.
With the energy of Barry Baggley, Simon Power and Zack Elbouzedi across midfield, Saints maintained their bright start.
Power worked a yard of space on the left to cross for Kavanagh whose acrobatic volley was over the top.
Not surprisingly, unchanged from their deserved big win at Shelbourne, Derry were labouring to get a foothold in the game as Saints continued to dominate the ball.
That changed midway through the half after St Pat’s were angered by a double booking for Jamie Lennon and Hoare following a foul on Michael Duffy.
It led to Derry finally enjoying some possession, forcing a couple of corners which came to nothing, before striking with a superbly constructed goal on 29 minutes.
Building from the back, skipper Mark Connolly found Carl Winchester in space in midfield.
He fed the run of Duffy who opened Saints up with the help of a decoy run from Gavin Whyte.
The ball was spread wide for overlapping right-back Ronan Boyce whose cross was turned home by namesake striker Boyce with a glancing header for the 34-year-old’s fifth goal of the season.
As in the first half, St Pat’s began the second on the front foot, almost levelling within a minute of the resumption.
Skipper Joe Redmond and McClelland worked the ball down the left for Baggley but Melia could not get enough on his cross as Maher made an easy save.
Maher had more to do on 57 minutes when a terrific break on the counter from Melia tore Derry open to set up Power, whose drive was saved.
Saints owned the ball from there but struggled to work Maher as Derry held on for another three points in Dublin.

THE daughter of an anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorist nurse died of blood cancer after listening to her and refusing treatment, her brothers claim.
Cambridge graduate Paloma Shemirani, 23, died last year after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The Miss Brighton finalist refused chemo despite doctors saying it would give her an 80 per cent chance of survival.
Instead, she listened to her mum Kate, 60, who was struck off the UK’s nursing register in 2021 for discouraging masks and Covid vaccines.
She claimed the Covid virus was linked to the roll-out of 5G technology, and a political tool to gain access to and change people’s DNA.
Brothers Gabriel and Sebastian said she might still be alive if she had not caved in to pressure.
Sebastian told the BBC: “My sister has passed away as a direct consequence of my mum’s actions and beliefs.”
Kate, now 60, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and had the tumour removed through surgery, undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
But online, she appears to suggest she was healed following ‘Gerson therapy’ – a baseless form of alternative medicine.
Mrs Shemirani has not commented on the claim.

And on Monday, the Paris Olympian confirmed that she will be returning to the track at the European Athletics Team Championships in Slovenia this weekend.
She said: “Happy Olympic day.
“A last minute decision but I’ll be stepping into the Irish kit again this weekend for the European team championships.”
Mawdsley has been confirmed for the 4x400m mixed relay, with Cillin Greene, Ciaran Carthy, Sophie Becker, and Callum Baird completing the Irish line-up.
And fans on social media backed her to make her dad proud regardless of result in Maribor.

A third hailed: “Great to see you back training. It’s been a very tough few weeks”
Muireann O’Connell commented: “Well done Charlene we’re all thinking of you”
Mawdsley has become one of Ireland’s brightest sports stars in recent years.
She bagged silver and gold in the women’s and mixed 4x400m relays respectively at the European Athletics Championships in 2024.
The Newport AC export followed that with a promising performance at the Paris Olympics that saw her narrowly miss out on a medal.
During her dad’s funeral, Sharlene credited her ability to achieve her dreams on the track to her dad’s unwavering support and belief in his daughter.
She said: “He made me trust that my dreams were never too big and, for that, some of my dreams have already come true.
“The best part is I got to share them with you, Dad.”
BACK IN ACTION
Mawdsley has had plenty of help getting into racing shape from her GAA star boyfriend Michael Breen.
Breen, who is a senior hurler with Tipperary, joked he was coaching her as he watched her hit the athletics track for a session.

Shakira, 22, gushed over the footballer as she said: “He boils my blood. He’s hilarious, witty, charming and funny. And he’s not bad looking.
“So the boy I would like to couple up with is… Harry.”
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, fans went wild after spotting the move.
One joked, “Not Helena moving away from harry,” with a laughing emoji, while someone else said: “Helena moving away from Harry is just so…. #LoveIsland.”
A third chimed in with: “Shakira picked harry wow the face on helena.”
While a fourth pointed out: “how’s helena upset that harry’s moved on when she said they’re done?”
Harry, 30, was previously seen sobbing as he appeared to backtrack on his behaviour towards Helena.
The ITV2 star caused shockwaves in the villa last week when he split with his day one partner – before he attempted to pursue a third different romantic connection in the compound just hours later.
In scenes aired on last night’s Aftersun, Harry appeared to have huge regret on calling time on his connection with Helena.
A video shows him in tears as he sat with Dejon, who said if he could have it his way he would see the pair together.
Semi pro footballer Harry, with tears in his eyes, replied: “Yeah. Like, we just have nothing. Do you know what I mean?”
He then paused to dab his face and added: “Where it’s just like, we were good and then it’s just like she can’t even be around me.
“Geez. It’s just weird man.

One fan was quick to write: “Crying as if all of this wasn’t his own doing. Men lack accountability fr.”
A second posted: “If it isn’t the consequences of your own actions….”
A third noted: “He’s realised he’s exhausted all his options that man does not want to be with Helena,” while one agreed and put: “And tomorrow he’ll want Emily we can’t predict his next move.”
