AN Essex farm has found itself at the centre of an alleged car theft epidemic after being linked to an international car smuggling ring.
Baldwins Farm in South Essex has recently been exposed in a Channel 4 documentary for allegedly being a hotbed of organised crime.
However, according to the MailOnline, this is far from the first time that the farm has been accused of illegal activity.
Channel 4’s recent Dispatches instalment featured Baldwins Farm, and began with an Audi A4 that was stolen from a driveway in North London on March 15th.
Unbeknown to the thieves, the car leasing company had previously fitted the vehicle with a hidden tracker.
The tracker showed the Audi’s journey from London to a patch of woodland in Baldwins farm, which is tucked away in an area of green belt just inside the M25.
Possible GPS jamming or blocking equipment was thought to have prevented the tracker from working at the farm, however, five weeks later, it reappeared in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Dispatches then tracked it to a business in the outskirts of the city called Baltic Car Trade.
The documentary showed police as they raided the property, but all that was left was a bunch of wires – the car has been torn apart, like many others that are stolen off of British streets.
Organised gangs of criminals steal thousands of cars each year to then ship abroad as parts destined for scrap yards in the Middle East and Africa.
The Dispatches investigation also revealed that at least two other stolen cars with trackers had ended up at Baldwins farm, in a part of the farm nicknamed “Lithuanian end.”
However, this allegedly isn’t the first time the site has come under fire.
In 2020, Essex Police conducted a raid that recovered three Range Rovers and a Land Rover discovery.
Some of the vehicles were already in the process of being broken down for parts.
Dispatches identified Martin Clark as the director of the company that owns the lease to the part of Baldwins that the car was found on.
Clark was jailed in 2007 for six years for his part in a £4million car theft ring.
After being tracked down to a large house in Essex with several parked luxury cars on the drive, Clark told journalist, Matt Shea, to “F*** off.”
Former police officer, Neil Thomas, told the MailOnline that he wouldn’t be surprised if Baldwins Farm had been used to store stolen vehicles.
Thomas, who now works for a private track and recovery service for stolen cars, said: “The access in and out is quite restricted, it’s quite close to London, quite close to the docks, so if you are exporting vehicles it’s a really good location.”
According to the MailOnline, who visited the farm last week, there is only one road in and out in the form of a dusty track, and the whole site is brimming with CCTV cameras.
Drone images of the farm show rows of parked vehicles and shipping containers, as well as piles of scrap metal.
There are plenty of legitimate businesses renting units at the farm, including window companies, car repairers and a cement business run by the Bromley family.
However, the MailOnline claims that the site has also long attracted criminal clientele.
Like many semi-rural parts of Essex, the area saw an influx of criminals from the East End during the 1970s and 1980s.
Gangsters found it useful due to it being relatively isolated while still being close to London.
The current Channel 4 investigation focuses on allegations of stolen cars tied to an international smuggling ring.
The family who now run the site, insist that any criminality is a thing of the past.
Jake Bromley, 29, told the MailOnline: “That stolen Audi has nothing to do with us and we have nothing to do with the land where the Lithuanians are.”
In reference to Martin Clark, who Dispatches reported as holding the lease to the land that the vehicle was tracked to, he said that he simply rents the land to the businessman and will review the contract when it ends in 2026.
Jake explained that himself and his sister, Lily Tiger, 25, are keen to make an honest living and are fearful of this negative publicity.
The pair were made directors of the new company Baldwins Farm Limited in February this year.

Tesco Ireland chiefs have released Silex at-home health tests, giving shoppers an easy way to screen for common health issues.
All tests are priced at €8, with some coming in packs of two, working out at just €4 per test.
Each one is designed for self-testing at home and comes with straightforward instructions, rapid results and clinically tested accuracy.
To start, Tesco is offering the Silex Menopause Self-Test in a pack of two for €8, designed to detect levels of follicle-stimulating hormone to help assess menopause.
The test is taken using urine and gives a result within five minutes, with a result window that compares the test line to a control line for accuracy.
A strong or equal line suggests perimenopause, while a fainter line indicates normal FSH levels – a quick option for those experiencing irregular periods, night sweats or mood changes.
Next up is the Silex Iron Deficiency Self-Test for €8, which uses a blood sample to screen for low iron levels by detecting ferritin concentration.
It’s a cassette-based test that gives results in just five minutes, and can help flag iron deficiency anaemia – often associated with fatigue, hair thinning or brittle nails.
After applying a drop of blood and buffer solution, the results show whether ferritin levels fall within or outside the normal range.
Also priced at €8, the Silex Underactive Thyroid Self-Test checks for elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone in the blood.
The test is done with a finger prick, requires two drops of buffer and takes around 10 minutes to produce results which is shown as coloured lines on the cassette.
Symptoms like low energy, memory issues, and heavy periods may suggest an underactive thyroid and this test offers a shoppers quick way to check.
Tesco is also stocking a Silex Urinary Tract Infection Self-Test, which comes with two dipsticks for only €8.
It only takes one to two seconds of immersion to use, with clear results ready in just two minutes, and an accuracy rate of 99.5 per cent.
This is a useful option for anyone experiencing a burning sensation when urinating, and it can detect signs of infection like leukocytes, nitrites and blood in the urine.
Another product in the range is the Silex Vitamin D Self-Test for €8, which helps check whether your levels are sufficient.
The test involves drawing a small blood sample, adding two drops of buffer and comparing the colour result to a provided card.
It has over 94 per cent accuracy and can be helpful for those who feel fatigued, have bone aches, or get limited sunlight exposure.
Lastly, the Silex Vaginal Infection Self-Test is available for €8 and checks vaginal pH to help identify possible cases of bacterial vaginosis.
Users apply a swab to the pH panel and the colour result appears in just one minute – with yellow-green indicating a normal range and green-blue suggesting abnormal pH.
All six self-tests are available now in Tesco Ireland stores – and savvy shoppers must act fast.

Top, 39, is now “group executive chairman” with his role switching to “determining the direction and setting the policy frameworks for business operations”.

Earnings dropped by just shy of £350,000 from 2023 to 2024 despite the number of winners jumping from 27 to 29.
And though there is much of the Flat season still to go, King Power have had a 12 per cent strike rate this year – matching their lowest ever – with 13 winners at the time of writing.
That adds up to earnings of £417,109 – but with plenty still to play for over the coming months and with loads of the King Power horses having lots of entries.
King Power’s flagbearers now look to be Group 2 hero Bellum Justum and The Foxes, both trained by Kingsclere handler Balding.
Bellum Justum landed a monster £830,000 win when he claimed the Nashville Derby in Kentucky last August.
He then won the Group 2 Betfred Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket in May this year – bringing home another £70,000.
While The Foxes’ Group 2 Huxley Stakes win at Chester in May was worth just shy of £75,000.
The money is significant on its own but nothing compared to the situation the King Power company finds itself in.
King Power had a 30-year near-monopoly on duty free concessions in Thailand.
But, while aiming to renegotiate contracts at four of the country’s major airports, want all rental fees to be waived.
That is expected to lead to losses of £450m-plus for the state-run Airports of Thailand, which rejected the opening offer from King Power.
Top’s replacement Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said: “It’s like a patient surviving on oxygen.
“The company’s intention was to ask AOT to remove the oxygen because we can’t cope anymore. This was the signal we sent.
“We’re in a position where we’re saying we can’t manage, and we’re asking AOT for help.
“We’ll listen. If the conditions allow us to remain profitable, we’ll stay. If not, and we can’t make it work together, we’ll accept that.”

NETFLIX viewers have slammed a teen drama over steamy sex scenes – accusing bosses of ‘fetishising the young cast’.
Raunchy Spanish drama Olympo is a recent addition to the streaming platform.
The show follows a cohort of young adult athletes at the fictitious Pirineos Center of High Performance.
Its synopsis is as follows: “When a swimmer collapses at a high-performance sports center, Amaia investigates the extreme risks her fellow athletes are taking to feed their ambition.”
However, some fans have hit out at its racy scenes – taking to X to share their thoughts.
One wrote on X: “Episode 1 of #OlympoNetflix and everyone is just f*****g.”
Another added: “I was interested in watching #OlympoNetflix, but I’ve seen GIFs and it looks a bit too much for me.
