Contaminated sauce is urgently recalled by major UK supermarket over ‘health risk’ as shoppers are told ‘do not eat’

A MAJOR retailer has urgently recalled a popular sauce over fears it could pose a deadly health risk to customers.

Customers have been warned to avoid the product because it could be fatal to allergy sufferers.

Laoganma Brand Black Bean Chili Sauce has been pulled from shelves because it contains undeclared peanuts.

The 280g product is stocked in popular retailers such as Sainsbury’s and is widely available in Asian supermarkets.

Affected items have the batch code 18232 and show a best before date of 8 March 2026.

Your product recall rights

Chief consumer reporter James Flanders reveals all you need to know.

Product recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item

Sex-mad soap stars who caused chaos on set…from actor with uncontrollable libido who bedded 1000s to Dales love triangle

WHEN sparks fly on-screen, it’s not surprising that romance sometimes blossoms when the cameras stop rolling.

That seems to have been the case for Casualty hunk Olly Rix, who’s dating another female co-star just months after his whirlwind fling with actress Helen George on Call the Midwife.

The 40-year-old, who plays surgeon Flynn Byron on the long-running BBC show, has grown close to Anna Chell, 28, who plays nurse Jodie Whyte.

An insider said Olly is enjoying a “blossoming romance” with Anna, while snaps of the couple carving each other’s names into stone feature on Olly’s Instagram account.

Here we take a look at other soap lotharios who fell for their co-stars – including a messy love triangle in the Dales and a Corrie legend who admits to an “uncontrollable” sex drive.

Co-star fling while ex was pregnant

In May 2022, we reported how EastEnders star Max Bowden, now 30, had grown close to his co-star Shona McGarty, now 33, after splitting from his pregnant lover, insurance exec Roisin Buckle, now 40.

The actor, who played Ben Mitchell, assured his girlfriend he was not seeing anyone else when they separated.

But Roisin claimed she found out Max was in a relationship with Shona just weeks after their split – and said he missed key scans and events, leaving her in tears.

She gave birth to a baby boy in September 2022.

Meanwhile Shona and Max – who went Instagram official days before Roisin’s due date – broke up after six months of dating, but remained on good terms.

Opening up about the split in June 2023, Shona told the Mirror: “We’re actually better than ever. It’s a friendship, we’re such in a good place.

“You take a risk, and you do something and it doesn’t work out, but that’s life, you’ve got to take that risk.”

Following his romance with Shona, Max moved on with fellow EastEnder Danielle Harold, 33, who played Lola Pierce.

They secretly dated for a number of years before a bitter split which saw them unfollow each other on Instagram.

Now Max – who was axed from EastEnders in December 2023 following a showdown with bosses over his party lifestyle – has gone public with his new girlfriend.

He grew close to co-star Tori Allen-Martin 39, after appearing together on stage in the musical Midnight Cowboy.

Marc Bannerman, 51, was played lothario Gianni di Marco on EastEnders from 1998 to 2000 – having fibbed that he was half-Italian when he was actually born in Ireland.

The heartthrob dated Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha, 60, while she too was appearing on the soap as businesswoman Annie Palmer, with whom his character had a fling.

Marc was once so popular he claimed he had to donate a sack of knickers sent to him by female viewers to Oxfam.

But he later claimed he was axed from EastEnders over his real-life romance with Nadia because it was lessening his appeal for female fans.

After he was given the boot, Marc said he fell into depression, his weight ballooned to over 17st and his drinking spiralled.

He told the Mirror: “I’ve not kept in touch with the other Di Marco actors because our departure was so traumatic. When I first found myself out of the show I didn’t realise at the time but I started eating all the wrong things and I was boozing far too much.”

Marc was back in the spotlight in 2007 when he appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here – and controversially grew close to his campmate Cerys Matthews.

He was in a relationship with his Footballer’s Wives: Extra Time co-star Sarah Matravers at the time, and confessed to behaving like a “rat”, having broken his girlfriend’s heart.

Marc said: “I just developed feelings for someone in there and I’ve got a Mrs at home, I’m a rat. I can’t look for a scapegoat. The buck stops here.”

Marc and Cerys continued dating post-jungle, but called it quits a year later.

Claire King‘s Emmerdale character Kim Tate has had her share of agony, but the actress herself is no stranger to drama.

In 1994 she married co-star Peter Amory, 60, who played her on-screen step-son Chris.

But their 10-year marriage was derailed when he was accused of having an affair with Emmerdale co-star Samantha Giles, now 53, while Claire, now 63, was working on Bad Girls in London.

While he and Samantha deny anything happening during the marriage, Claire was convinced it did.

“I had a feeling that something was going on,” she told the Mirror back in 2005.

“I was working in London and we were spending less and less time together. I was travelling back to Yorkshire every weekend.

“I remember Pete saying that I only came back to see my dogs and horses… and I thought: ‘Well, yeah, and to catch you at it!'”

Claire’s suspicions were seemingly confirmed when Samantha’s then-partner penned a letter claiming their spouses were indeed cheating.

Claire also claimed Samantha had apologised to her at Richard Thorpe’s funeral.

Bill Roache, 93, has played Ken Barlow since the very first episode of Corrie back in 1960 – and was a lothario both on and off screen.

He cheated on his first wife Anna Cropper multiple times, something he has since expressed regret over.

Speaking about his affairs – one of which was with fellow Weatherfield star Pat Phoenix, who played Elsie Tanner – he said: “There were plenty of girls around.

“I didn’t have any control over my own sex drive. I didn’t have the strength to control it. Every morning I woke up regretting and hurting.”

He added that his fling with Pat was a “one-off” after she invited him round to her flat.

“We had a few drinks, then one thing led to another,” he said. “At that time, she had a reputation and I had a reputation, and she felt we should meet, as it were. It just happened.”

Bill Roache

Bill and Pat then fell out after a row during filming and she didn’t speak to him for two years afterwards.

When Anna discovered her husband’s infidelity she divorced him in 1974.

In an interview with Piers Morgan on his Life Stories show, Bill told how his sexual antics led fellow Coronation Street actors to nickname him “C**k Roache”.

Piers also pressed him on the number of women he’d slept with, asking if it was 1,000 – to which Bill replied: “Well, I’m not denying it.”

He went on to marry Sara Mottram in 1978, with whom he shares three children, but they divorced in 2009 – though Bill insisted he was always faithful to her.

Bill then dated TV weather girl Emma Jesson, nearly 40 years his junior, until 2013.

The actor is now celibate, and claimed: “I don’t need a sexual relationship anymore. Everything works, but I don’t have that need for sex I used to have.”

Things were frosty in the Dales in 2016 when it was claimed Danny Miller, now 34, was having an affair with his co-star Isabel Hodgins, now 31 – who was dating fellow Emmerdale actor Michael Parr, now 38.

At the time, Danny was in a relationship with Hollyoaks actress Kirsty-Leigh Porter, 36, who found incriminating texts on his phone.

It’s said to have caused fireworks, with angry cast members splitting into two camps.

The Sun reported: “The tension between them caused major problems on set, because Michael made it crystal clear he didn’t want to be around Danny.”

Kirsty was said to be devastated at the betrayal after forgiving Danny’s alleged infidelity with a prostitute when drunk.

And Michael was believed to be furious with pal Danny for going behind his back, but he stayed with Isabel until they finally split in 2019.

Danny is now happily married to childhood sweetheart Steph Jones, and the couple are expecting their third child.

It’s never wise to mix business and pleasure, but Tina O’Brien, 41, appears to have missed that memo.

Aged 17, she dated Bruno Langley, 42, who played her on-screen boyfriend Todd Grimshaw, for a year.

When their romance went south, five months later she moved on to Bruno’s on-screen brother, Ryan Thomas, 41.

Thankfully her ex gave them her blessing, and initially Tina and Ryan seemed to be one of the most stable soap couples – though Tina said their relationship was tempestuous at times due to her bad temper.

The pair dated for six years and welcomed daughter Scarlett in 2008.

But a month before Scarlett’s first birthday, Ryan allegedly told Tina he didn’t love her anymore, leaving her “devastated”.

Tina claimed: “He said I didn’t do it for him any more. Those were his words. I was absolutely devastated. He said he didn’t want the responsibility of a relationship with me.”

Both moved on, with Ryan happily engaged to former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh, 33, with whom he shares two children.

Tina married personal trainer Adam Crofts, but earlier this year she reportedly called time on their 14-year relationship. They share a son, Beau.

According to a source, Tina is gutted about the breakup but is doing her best to stay positive and is enjoying her life as a single woman.

She and Ryan occasionally make digs at each other on social media but have remained relatively harmonious – until Tina was accused of damaging her ex’s car with a baseball bat during a late-night bust-up in March 2024.

GAA All-Star marks ‘first night in our new home’ by getting engaged as couple have two reasons to celebrate

MAYO captain Paddy Durcan and partner Alannah McBrien toasted their first night in their new house by getting engaged.

On Tuesday Alannah shared several sweet photos on Instagram recapping their double celebration.

She reflected: “What a way to top off our first night in our new home. Here’s to forever with my best friend.”

Several of Durcan’s past and present inter-county teammates were among the many well-wishers in the comments section.

Fellow veteran Aidan O’Shea hailed: “Massive Congrats guys! Enjoy the celebrations!”

On a similarly joyous note, 2016 Footballer of the Year Lee Keegan added: “Class news!”

Rob Hennelly and Diarmuid O’Connor were among the other Mayo legends to react to the post with rival Galway stars Shane Walsh and Damien Comer also expressing their delight.

The 2025 inter-county campaign saw Durcan, 30, make his long-awaited return after suffering a torn cruciate ligament last year.

While his return to the pitch was a welcome boost to their on-pitch fortunes, it wound up being another frustrating Championship for the Green and Red.

After putting themselves in a hole by losing at home to Cavan, they looked on the brink of scrapping qualification from their All-Ireland group when they equalised on 70 minutes versus Donegal.

However, in a cruel twist of fate even by the standards of Mayo football over the past decade or so, they conceded a winning point with the last kick of the game.

And the off-season in Mayo never passes without some sort of circus.

The debrief after their fruitless 2023 and 2024 campaigns saw in-depth reviews go on for months, much to the frustration of their demanding supporters.

The most worrying aspect of their season was of course that Kevin McStay suffered a health scare in May which forced him to stand aside as boss.

It means the county are heading into months of uncertainty.

It remains to be seen if McStay will remain on for a fourth campaign after coach and former boss Stephen Rochford temporarily took the reins last month.

Rochford led them to the 2016 and 2017 All-Ireland finals where they agonisingly fell short against Dublin.

Still, the Crossmolina clubman got a tune from them this term as they stunned Tyrone in the second round before their one-point loss to Donegal saw them finish bottom of Group 1.

He may be sick of the torment that comes with the job and there are questions over some stars’ futures.

January seems like a million miles away, but amid another sunny spell across the country, the dark clouds are again on the horizon in Mayo.

Fears ‘world’s scariest Zombie drug’ Devil’s Breath is in UK after woman suffered horrifying ordeal on tube

THE world’s scariest drug Devil’s Breath – used by organised crime groups to kidnap Brits abroad – may have made its way into the UK.

The mind-warping chemical was once tested by the CIA as a truth serum and turns tourists into “zombies” who give up valuables without a struggle.

Deborah Oscar, 30, suspects she was spiked on a London train with ‘Devil’s Breath’ drug[/caption]

Also known as scopolamine or burundanga, the powerful drug is derived from the seeds of the Borrachero tree and wipes away memory and free will.

The US’s Overseas Security Advisory Council has warned travellers to South America about the dangers of Devil’s Breath.

It is administered via drinks, chewing gum, cigarettes or paper and card.

The drug has also been linked to deaths in the UK – including Irish dancer Adrian Murphy, who died in 2019 after his killers administered scopolamine.

Last month it was reported that Colombian police fear London-based scientist Alessandro Coatti, 38, who was found dead while on holiday in Santa Marta in April, may have been targeted with Devil’s Breath too.

While the powdered form is tasteless and odourless, it is a potent drug that can disorient and incapacitate people and lead to hallucinations.

How tourists are being targeted with ‘Devil’s Breath’ drug that turns victims into ‘zombies’ for robberies & kidnaps

By Juliana Cruz Lima

In doses as small as 10mg, it can paralyse victims and leave them highly susceptible to commands, making them easy prey for criminals.

Victims lose their will, forget what happened, and often hand over PINs, valuables and passwords without a fight.

Now Colombian gangs are plying unsuspecting tourists with the drug via drinks, chewing gum, cigarettes — or even business cards soaked in the substance — often after luring them through apps like Tinder or Grindr. And the body count is rising.

In a UK first, the drug was used in 2019 to murder Irish dancer Adrian Murphy.

Teen killer Diana Cristea and her boyfriend Joel Osei met him on Grindr, poisoned him with scopolamine, and ransacked his flat.

They were later convicted of murder and attempted murder of a second victim.

British-based scientist Alessandro Coatti, 42, was on holiday in Santa Marta last month when he was lured to an abandoned house via Grindr.

There, investigators believe he was drugged, bludgeoned to death, dismembered, and stuffed into suitcases.

His remains were found scattered across the city, discovered by horrified children.

Only his head, hands and feet have been recovered.

One of the masterminds behind this chilling criminal trend is alleged gang boss Carolina Mejía Montoya, 27, nicknamed “The Queen of Scopolamine.”

She was arrested in Medellín after years of drugging and robbing foreign tourists in luxury apartments and hotels across the tourist hotspots of El Poblado and Parque Lleras.

She racked up millions in thefts, using her beauty to gain the trust of high-profile visitors.

In one night alone, she stole more than 120 million pesos from an Italian and an American man, police said.

CCTV captured her leading victims into short-term rentals before drugging them and fleeing with their cash, cards and jewellery.

Mejía, part of the La Marina gang, had previously been granted house arrest in a gun case — only to vanish and continue her spree.

According to the UK Addiction Treatment group, it can also effect memories, make users highly impressionable and even paralyse them.

Victims have been raped, convinced to commit violent crimes, emptied their bank accounts and even had their organs stolen while under the influence of this drug.

Zaheen Ahmed, Director of Addiction Therapy at The UKAT Group, told The Sun: “It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that Devil’s Breath could have made its way into the UK.

“Unfortunately, when there’s high demand for drugs, especially ‘new’ drugs, supply will find a way.

“Although primarily found in Columbia, we know that it’s already made its way into Europe, and so unfortunately, there is every chance that it is already here.”

It comes after a woman claimed she was spiked with the terrifying drug on a London tube.

Deborah Oscar, 30, was on the Elizabeth Line leaving from Abbey Wood when a woman wafted a newspaper in her face – leaving her feeling “high” and “sleepy – before sitting next to her in an empty carriage.

Barely able to keep her eyes open, Deborah remembered a TikTok video she had seen about ‘Devil’s Breath’ – a drug called scopolamine blown on victims to turn them into compliant “zombies” before they are robbed or killed.

She stumbled out of the train to safety.

Deborah, a content creator, from Abbey Wood, southeast London, is adamant she was hit with the drug which at one point was used in an estimated 50,000 attacks a year in South America, with reports of street robberies in Paris.

Deborah said: “This train was fairly empty, and this woman was walking slowly wafting this newspaper staring at me.

“I assumed she was a confused tourist about to ask for directions.

What is Devil's Breath?

Some people may take the drug on purpose for a “dream-like state” it can induce, mistakenly thinking it will be like mainstream hallucinogens like LSD.

But Devil’s Breath hallucinations tend to be far more disturbing and disjointed, often manifesting as nightmarish visions or confusing scenarios that blur the lines of reality.

It may also be taken by mistake due to its close resemblance to cocaine.

The correct dosage of the drug is notoriously hard to pin down, and even a slight miscalculation can lead to an overdose.

This can lead to respiratory failure, acute psychosis and even death.

Symptoms may include dry mouth, difficulty speaking, lethargy, hallucinations, rapid heartbeat and disorientation.

Source: The UKAT Group

“But she just maintained eye contact. It felt eerie and very odd but she was quite well dressed, so I didn’t feel scared really, she just looked like a tourist.

“Then she came and sat down next to me and I felt like I needed a deep sleep, I suddenly felt very peaceful.

“Like the first few seconds when you have anaesthesia before a surgery.

“I thought I had low blood sugar, maybe I was about to faint – that’s when I remembered videos I had seen about the ‘Devil’s Breath’ drug.

“She walked away eventually but kept staring at me the whole time.”

Deborah said she was left feeling drunk – and that her “mind was working faster than her body”, during the incident around 11am on Tuesday, June 17.

“The doors closed behind me and I got away – once I stepped into the fresh air outside, the feeling began to subside too.

“I had my Yves Saint Laurent bag on me, maybe they thought I was wealthy. But I was wearing a dress from Primark too.”

After sharing her experience online she said she has had other people contacting her sharing similar experiences in London.

When contacted, the Met Police were unable to comment on whether this is a wider issue across London.

A TfL spokesperson said: “Everyone should feel safe and be safe when travelling in London and we’re very sorry that Ms Oscar experienced what must have been an extremely frightening incident for her.

“We take all reports of crime seriously and are investigating this incident

“We ask anyone who witnesses or experiences a crime to report it to British Transport Police on 6101.”
