ANDROID users have been left puzzled and concerned after Google announced plans to ramp up how AI works with their smartphone apps.
And there appears to be some confusion about how to turn it all off.
GoogleGoogle is integrating AI into more of its apps[/caption]
The tech giant has been increasingly pushing its new Gemini AI tools in face of competition from ChatGPT.
Users have received an email informing them that Google has “made it easier for Gemini to interact with your device”.
“Gemini will soon be able to help you use Phone, Messages, WhatsApp and Utilities on your phone, whether your Gemini Apps Activity is on or off,” the message reads.
It goes on to say “if you don’t want to use these features, you can turn them off in the Apps settings page” but doesn’t explain specific steps or provide a link on how to do this.
“If you have already turned these features off, they will remain off,” they add.
The vague wording has raised concerns online of Gemini “getting more control”, one X user wrote.
Another commented on a forum: “How scary is that? What could possibly go wrong?
“I don’t want anyone or anything interacting with my phone, unless your calling me or sending an email or text message.”
A third added: “Google is desperate to get us to use their AI before we get used to another one.”
Google’s email states that the changes will start to appear from July 7.

THE HISTORY OF PENNEYS
THE Penneys brand grew from humble beginnings on Dublin's Mary Street, where it opened its first store in 1969.
Known as Primark outside Ireland, the company was the brainchild of Garfield Weston, who hired Dubliner Arthur Ryan to make his vision reality.
Penneys branched into the UK in 1973 with its first store opening in Derby. The UK now has 191 Primark stores in total.
However, the Penneys name could not travel to Britain as the American retailer JC Penney had the right to use the name in the region.
And in 2006, the expansion into Europe began with an opening in Spain, followed by the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France and Italy.
Primark went Stateside for the first time in September 2015, with the opening of a store in Boston. There are now 27 stores in America with branches in Florida, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The retailer’s opened its largest store in Birmingham in 2019.
It spans five floors and features Primark’s biggest beauty studio to date, a barbers and three restaurants.

Three games
To mark the momentous occasion, Playstation announced three games will be available to all members.
Action/climbing game Jusant depicts a journey to the top of a tall tower.
Players are able to uncover secrets of bygone community and hone their skills, at their own pace.
Also included is The King of Fighters XV, which, as the title suggests, is an instalment in a long-running series.
The game features 39 characters, as well as a new combat system and a variety of battle options.
Rounding out the trio is Diablo IV, an RPG game – where players can tackle a campaign either solo or with friends.
The narrative combines a gripping story with memorable characters for users to meet along the way.
Taking to Reddit, one fan commented: “Diablo and Jusant! Nice! Good month for me!”
Another added: “Oh nice, I’ve been wanting to play Diablo for so long. I completed Diablo 1 some time ago and it was great.”
While a third shared: “Man, i had my eye on diablo 4 for months. This is amazing!”
Nine new titles
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that nine new titles are coming to players’ consoles in a major software upgrade.
They’re all part of Sony’s PlayStation Plus membership scheme, which is the subscription that gets you online gameplay.
But it also grants you access to a massive rolling library of free video games to enjoy.
PlayStation’s Adam Michel said: “This month, join forces to tackle the paranormal crises of a mysterious federal agency under siege in the cooperative first-person shooter FBC: Firebreak.
“Lead your team to victory in the iconic all-out warfare of Battlefield 2042, test your skills as a new Fazbear employee managing and maintaining the eerie pizzeria of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2.

WELCOME to the most bouji campsite at Glastonbury where a top package will cost you a staggering £38,000 – without even a ticket to get in.
The Pop-Up hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the festival site but it is a world away from the enormous tent city and infamous long-drop toilets used by the masses.

While most of the 200,000 music lovers will go without a shower for five days, those who can fork out the price of an average UK salary can even have a swim.
The exclusive retreat boasts the Festival’s only pool, complete with deck chairs, cocktail bar and gold painted naked Roman statues.
Between sets guests luxuriate in a spa with saunas, ice baths, hot tubs with yoga and meditation, and even hook up to a vitamin IV drip.
High rollers pay £28,000 for a five night stay in the top Tipi Tenthouse Suites and can be flown there by helicopter from London in just 40 minutes for another £10k.
The posh tents, which can sleep up to 10, are held up with thick bamboo columns and come with an ensuite bathroom, sofas, mood lighting, dressing tables and extras including hangover pills, Lavazza coffee machines, hand held fans and electric toothbrushes.
Also available are American RVs at £20,000 and Airstreams for £13k.
The glamping site is the ultimate in cushiness and the polar opposite of the “rolling-around-in-the-mud squalor” that many will associate with the biggest music festival on earth.
Organisers are tight-lipped about who might be staying in the exclusive campsite but previous guests have included
Rivals actor Aidan Turner, Made in Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh, model Daisy Lowe, and actor Steve Coogan, who left a review saying: “Great atmosphere. Plenty of space to chill out and great food. I will be back.”
Fim director Guy Ritchie hired the Pop-Up Hotel for his wedding with stars including Brad Pitt and Jason Statham as guests.
Others staying for Glasto include mega rich hedge fund managers, trustafarians and successful business people.
It started off small in 2011 as the first luxury glamping accommodation with just 16 bell tents and has expanded every year into the “350 room hotel” it is now.
The whole thing takes around four weeks to put up with many of the areas like the reception and restaurant bespoke made.
Many of the rooms and bell tents – which start at £3,6990 – have already sold out.
And some of the guests arrive on Friday afternoon and go home on Sunday, missing out on two of the nights they have paid for.
A source told us: “The people who stay here have a different level of money.”
Managing director, Mark Sorrill, a local boy from Street, Somerset, is unashamedly proud of creating the elite paradise.
He said: “We’ve evolved to deliver an unparalleled festival experience for our hotel guests during Glastonbury matched with a 5* service found at any international boutique hotel.
“Our creative production team is busy putting their years of experience into delivering the finest immersive experience combining festival vibes with a boutique hotel’s comfort; making The Pop-Up Hotel the perfect choice for a Glastonbury adventure to remember.”
Guests are ferried around the site on brand new £90k electric Mini Mokes – more often seen on the French Riviera than in a field in Somerset.
And for the filthy rich there is a wellness area run by legendary dance DJ Rob DaBank and his wife Josie where they can get clean and chill out.
The couple’s company Slomo invested in a series of Dutch wood-fired hot tubs where “festival weary bodies” can float about after a hard night’s dancing.
And what festival spa complex would be complete without a Wim Hof-style ice bath.
Josie, who also runs Camp Bestival with hubby Rob, said: “It’s just what you need to relax if you’ve been partying hard.
“People want the wellness.”
DJ Rob also takes breathing workshops and Renee Stewart, daughter of rocker Rod, teaches yoga.
And for the cut above customers there is even a salon “pamper area” where they can buy festival clothes and get a Glasto glow-up.
A 24hr restaurant and bar keeps guests fed and watered while a DJ booth and live music acts provide round the clock entertainment.
Fun Loving Criminals Huey Morgan is among musicians putting on private shows at the hotel.
For those with deep enough pockets the hotel offers “the thrill of glamping with all the comfort, service and facilities you’d expect from a luxury boutique hotel” that can cater “for every whim”.
But have you really been to Glastonbury if you haven’t camped in with the masses, got covered in mud, and queued for horrific toilets?
“Some people don’t want any of that. They just want to go into the Festival site, enjoy the music and then sleep in a comfy bed and have a shower,” a source said.

IF you’re looking for a new beach to enjoy the summer weather on, there’s one in the south of the country that’s not to be missed.
Banna Strand is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunshine, or hop in for a swim.
Banna Strand is a favourite in KerryAlamyThe beach has 10km of golden sandAlamyThere is a surf school on the beach and you can also play golf nearbyAlamy
The Kerry beach is popular with both locals and tourists, with crystal-clear waters making for the perfect views.
The Blue Flag beach is just 13km from Tralee and is a favourite within the county.
It stretches 10km, and is one of Ireland’s largest beaches, reaching from Ballyheigue Beach in the north to Barrow Beach in the south.
It’s perfect for swimming, as the waters are warm from the Gulf Stream.
Located in Tralee Bay, tourists can enjoy views of Kerry Head to the north, the Dingle Peninsula to the southwest and Mucklaghmore Rock straight ahead to the sea.
There are stunning views from the dunes which tower 10m high, which have views of Mount Brandon and the Dingle Hills to the southwest.
The stunning stretch has golden sand that spans 10km along the Kerry coastline.
It’s perfect for families, with a perfect environment for swimming, sunbathing and building sandcastles.
Lifeguards are on duty every day from June until August.
There is a surf school located on the beach, making it the perfect place to learn something new, or you can take part in some kite surfing.
And you can even spot dolphins when looking out towards the bay – which is sure to be a thrill for the kids.
The beach has a large amount of car parking available, including disabled spaces.
There is also disabled access down a short slipway and toilets on site.
To reach the beach, visitors should turn off the R551 at Banna Cross.
Behind the sand dunes are several holiday parks and a Leisure Centre, ensuring your day is fully packed.
You can also travel to the nearby town of Ardfert or to Tralee for a range of other amenities.
While there, you can visit Tralee Golf Club that sits at the southern end of the beach.
HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE
It also has historic significance, as this was where the rebel Roger Casement landed in 1916 from a German U-boat after attempting to secure weapons from the Germans for the Easter Rising.
He was then caught and sentenced to death by the British government, and you can see a memorial to him near the beach.
Dogs are allowed on the beach, but must be on a leash.
There are also a number of B&Bs and hotels nearby, providing an array of accommodation for visitors.
On Tripadvisor, the beach has a 4.8 star rating and many rave reviews.
It is even rated as the number one thing to do in Tralee, and it’s easy to see why.
One person wrote: “What a wonderful beach – a blue flag beach – the best in Europe! Great to walk along. Lots of people swimming and surfing.
“A lovely place to get a hot drink and a cake – well worth trying. A must to visit – highly recommended.”
‘WONDERFUL WALK’
Another visitor said: “Banna beach is about 8 km long, fine sandy and invites you to swim safely in warm weather. But even in colder temperatures it is worth a visit.
“You can take a wonderful walk on the beach here. The history of the beach is also very interesting.
“During the First World War, German weapons were to be smuggled into the country on Banna beach to support the Irish struggle for independence.
“The mission failed, and the leader, Roger Casement, was arrested and then executed. A well-known song still tells its story today.
“Numerous parking spaces are available, the largest parking lot has changing rooms, toilets and a snack cart selling coffee and snacks.”

A NEW cultural destination is coming to London with a giant Vegas-like dome.
The Holborn Dome will be home to office spaces, a cultural space and a 300-person auditorium in central London.

City Of London.govThe Holborn Dome will be home to office spaces, a cultural space and a 300-person auditorium[/caption]
Located next to Chancery Lane tube station, the new venue will replace the surrounding offices and shops and bring them into one larger building.
The centre and a number of retail shops will be located on the ground floor.
And as part of the project, there will be a main auditorium with a double-height domed ceiling.
Whilst The Holborn Dome aims to commemorate the earlier Knights Templar Church, which was demolished at the site a long time ago – plans reveal a similar dome-like structure to that of the Vegas Sphere.
The round cultural space will be similar to the round churches that the Templars used to build.
And the design of the dome is inspired by the former Knights Templar Church – which once stood in nearly the same spot as where the new dome will sit.
The auditorium will be used for exhibitions and provide an immersive experience.
When the site eventually opens, there will also be parts of the walls from the original church revealed and put on display where possible.
There will be a remodelled pocket park at the rear of the building too, and upgraded public routes around the entire site.
Facilities such as the water fountain and toilets will also be upgraded.
Once completed, there will also be a number of exhibition spaces across the 10-storey-tall destination.
According to MyLondon, deputy Tom Sleigh, chair of the planning and transportation committee, said: “This is exactly the kind of scheme we want to see more of in the Square Mile – best-in-class office space that keeps London globally competitive, while also delivering public spaces that everyone can enjoy.
“Supporting the primary business function of the City through meeting this huge level of demand for office space is critical.
“But I’m particularly pleased by the retention of sections of the Knights Templar, a brilliant way to connect the new venue with the history of the site.”
Instagram/Make ArchitectsLocated next to Chancery Lane tube station, the new venue will replace the surrounding offices and shops[/caption]
Of course, The Holborn Dome will not be anywhere near the same size as the Vegas Sphere .
The US attraction towers 112metres into the sky and stretches 157metres wide.
And whilst the both the interior and exterior of The Holborn Dome won’t be a colossal screen, inside it will offer an immersive visitor experience.
The world’s deepest bar is also set to open in London as part of huge new £120million attraction.

SEVEN in 10 Sunday League footballers admit to playing while hungover – after having one too many the night before.
The poll of 1,000 amateur players also found that more than six in ten (65 per cent) regularly hit the pub before matchday, sinking an average of four and a half drinks per visit.
Tim Gander/PinPepOne Sunday League team has even been barred from their local[/caption]
Of those who have stumbled onto the pitch worse for wear, 15 per cent claim a boozy night improves their game and 26 per cent still manage to bag a goal.
While 21 per cent rubbed their eyes in disbelief after missing an open goal, and 29 per cent make wayward passes.
Nearly six in 10 (59 per cent) confess to overestimating their ability to play, the day after the night before.
But the problems go beyond the pint glass – as many as 85 per cent of players admit their football career has been hampered by poor prep.
From skipping warm-ups (43 per cent) and training (31 per cent) to forgetting boots (11 per cent) or turning up at the wrong ground (8 per cent).
The research, commissioned by Specsavers as part of its Best Worst Team campaign, shines a light on the struggles of teams like Tunley Athletic, a Sunday league side whose local pub – The King William Inn – has now banned players from drinking there the night before games.
Landlord Tom Watson said: “We’ve pulled more pints for this team than they’ve scored goals – so we figured it was our turn to switch tactics.
“Banning the lads the night before a match is our way of showing tough love.
BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK
“We’re not saying no to beers – just not before the final whistle.
“Hopefully next season, the only thing they’ll be losing is their losing streak!”
Cognitive slip-ups are also common, with 19 per cent misjudging distances, 28 per cent passing to the wrong team, and 22 per cent struggling with headers – often due to fatigue, dehydration or lack of focus.
And when it comes to fuelling up, one in four players opt for junk food on matchday morning, while 12 per cent go for a full English.
Almost three in 10 (28 per cent) have skipped having a pre-game breakfast altogether, according to OnePoll.com data.
Despite this, 89 per cent agree that good preparation – including proper nutrition, hydration and sleep – is essential, even at grassroots level.
To help Tunley Athletic turn things around, Specsavers has brought in top sports nutritionist Ted Munson to create a bespoke nutrition plan for the team.
Ted added: “Nutrition plays a key role at any level – from grassroots to the Premier League – allowing novice athletes to prepare, execute and recover more effectively.
“What we put into our body within 48 hours of a match directly impacts our physical output on the pitch.”
“I’ll be working with Tunley Athletic on the fundamentals – ensuring their pre-match meals are carbohydrate-rich and eaten at least 2 hours before kick-off, focusing on hydration habits which can make or break performance, and helping them fuel properly during games.
“I promote an 80/20 rule – get 80 per cent of your nutrition right and enjoy the other 20% with treats. So yes, enjoy a beer or takeaway, but save it for after the game, not before!”
The final episode of Specsavers’ Best Worst Team Season 3 is now available to watch on YouTube
