I paid £20 for Tinder and want my money’s worth – but little-known loophole desperate guys are using is driving me mad

A FED-UP mum reckons she’ll never find love on Tinder – because it keeps serving up blokes she’s already rejected.

Divorced Dawn Cowie, 48, turned to the app after more than two years being single.

Potential Tinder matches should no longer appear if you swipe left to reject them[/caption]

Her swipe finger has been working overdrive and she’s already knocked back everyone that’s on offer in tiny Nairn, Inverness-shire.

But frustrated Dawn told how the guys she’s rejected are making comebacks and repeatedly showing up for her.

The mum-of-one said: “It’s doing my nut in. I keep running out of men because of my location.

“And I feel Tinder is recycling profiles. I kept thinking I’ve seen these faces before.

“Three times I’ve seen this one person. It’s not taking the hint.”

Since her marriage of 16 years ended Dawn admitted it’s been tough trying to find someone else.

Between work and taking care of her 11-year-old daughter she’s not left with much time to herself.

While meeting blokes in noisy pubs is a nightmare because she has no clue what they’re saying to her.

A friend suggested Tinder and she decided to fork out £20-a-month to get all the benefits of the app.

But so far she’s been extremely unhappy with the men offered up to her by the app.

One date she lined up ended in disaster because the guy kept going on about her age, despite only being four years younger than her.

Dawn said: “Since then I’ve ran out and it’s changed my location to global.

“There’s no way I’ll be flying 3,000 miles for more red flags.

“Now the same ones keep showing up, including the one that was going on about my age. I’ve already blocked him and moved on.”

Dawn has discovered she may be falling victim to a little-known loophole on Tinder.

She added: “People have realised that if you deactivate your account and go back on, it says ‘new’. So it resets them and pushes them back out.

“I feel like I’ve got to see it through to the end of the month to get my money’s worth.

“But I won’t be renewing after that.”

Dawn isn’t enjoying being back on the dating scene and has no idea if she will ever meet someone else.

She said: “It’s actually a minefield. I thought dating in my 20s was bad.

“But it’s a whole new ball game in the dating world now.

“To be honest I’m thinking if it happens it happens.

“It would be nice to have company but in all honesty I have an amazing daughter, my parents and my close friends.

“Online dating works for some but unfortunately it’s just not for me.”

Josh van der Flier recalls hilarious first memory of the British & Irish Lions from his childhood

JOSH van der Flier accidentally taped over a home movie to record the Lions’ 2005 whitewash by the All Blacks.

But the Ireland flanker is hoping his family can watch footage of a series triumph in Australia this summer.

The Wicklow native, 32, was named World Rugby Player of the Year in 2022 but only earned his first call-up to the touring squad this year.

Before departing for Down Under last Saturday, van der Flier helped host a training session for 90 kids in UCD.

And VDF revealed how there was a VHS mishap as the then-12-year-old attempted to record the Brian O’Driscoll-led tourists 20 years ago.

The Leinster star explained: “We didn’t have the channels in my house but my grandparents lived across the road, so we would go and watch the Lions.

“I would have been quite young. I distinctly remember 2005. We had a family video and we taped over it by mistake! It was Lions against New Zealand that year, would that be right? We didn’t have the TV channels and it was on cassettes.

“It was either that or Star Wars or something! It wouldn’t have been something I verbalised but I watched games on TV.

“Then you go straight out to the garden and you pretend to be someone who is playing for the Lions or Ireland. It’s probably the pinnacle.”

Van der Flier made his Leinster debut in 2014 and earned his first Ireland cap in 2016 against England, going on to make 72 appearances in the green jersey since.

But for a time in 2021, he was behind his Leinster team-mate Will Connors in Andy Farrell’s Ireland pecking order.

A knee injury ruled Connors out for the 2022 season and opened the door for van der Flier, who grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

So the flanker recognises how much of an achievement it is to get the Lions nod from Farrell now.

He said: It’s hard to compare with playing for your country. But it is a very hard thing to do. It’s pretty cool.”

The Lions face Australia in the first Test at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on July 19.

Farrell’s troops will travel to Melbourne a week later 26 for a clash at the MCG before the final Test takes place in Sydney on August 2.

Should Van der Flier start, he will be doing his best to counteract a game-plan devised by Australia chief Joe Schmidt, who gave him his Ireland bow nine years ago.

Having faced Schmidt’s Wallabies last November at the Aviva Stadium in a 22-19 win, VDF is expecting another tough challenge.

Van der Flier said: “They were pretty impressive when we played them in November.

“Joe is an incredible coach. He will have them very well organised and with a few tricks up their sleeve as well. It will be a big challenge.”

Omagh bombing victims to ‘heap shame’ on Irish Govt during public inquiry amid ‘broken promises’ and ‘false assurances’

VICTIMS of the Omagh bombing intend to use a public inquiry to “heap shame” on the Irish Government for its failings over the atrocity, a barrister has said.

The inquiry also heard that victims are “sick and tired of platitudes, false assurances and broken promises” from Dublin over the bombing.

The Omagh Bombing Inquiry, chaired by Lord Turnbull, is hearing opening statements from core participants.

On Tuesday the focus moved to statements from the legal representatives of bereaved families.

The Real IRA bomb in the Co Tyrone town in August 1998 killed 29 people, including a woman who was pregnant with twins, in the worst single atrocity in the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

The public inquiry was set up by the previous government to examine whether the explosion could have been prevented by the UK authorities.

Barrister Alan Kane KC delivered a statement on behalf of the families of Omagh victims represented by solicitor John McBurney.

These include the families of Debra-Anne Cartwright, Olive Hawkes, Julia Hughes, Philomena Skelton, Samantha McFarland, Alan Radford, Lorraine Wilson, who were all killed in the massacre, as well as several other people who were injured.

He told the inquiry: “It is important that we always keep in focus that it was republican terrorists under the name Real IRA who planned and planted the Omagh bomb.

“They alone are responsible for the loss and hurt caused by it.

“On hearing the accounts of so many at the commemorative hearings, it beggars all belief as to what else was intended other than murderous carnage by leaving a bomb in a peaceful town’s main street on a busy sunny Saturday afternoon where so many innocent women, children and men were likely to be.

“The preventability of the murders and injuries was at all times within the absolute control of the Real IRA.”

He added: “Our clients are of the clear belief that whatever aspects of preventability may lie at the door of the UK state authorities, blame, to a greater or lesser extent, rests with the state authorities in the Republic of Ireland.

“Our clients again renew their call for a parallel inquiry to be immediately established by the Government of the Republic of Ireland, a call that they should not be required to repeat.

“Our clients remain greatly disappointed at the lack of any commitment of the authorities in the Republic of Ireland to meaningfully assist this inquiry.

“They regard the memorandum of understanding, agreed with the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Ireland as wholly unsatisfactory.

“Our clients wish to use this inquiry to heap shame on the Government of the Republic of Ireland for their failures.”

Tesco’s 35p ‘secret weapon’ will remove green muck from your mouldy garden furniture without harming the wood

SHOPPERS are racing to Tesco to pick up a “secret weapon” to use in their gardens.

The 35p item makes scrubbing green muck from your mouldy garden furniture easy, without damaging the wood.

The brand’s distilled vinegar is a great hack for cleaning your garden furniture[/caption]

After sitting outside over winter, some garden furniture can become covered in a crunchy, green layer.

However, there is one dirt-cheap item from Tesco which can make cleaning off that thin layer of algae easy.

The Tesco-own brand of distilled vinegar can dissolve the algae quickly and only costs 35p.

According to gardening expert, Laura Carter, the product is a “secret weapon” which can remove more than just algae.

She described the 35p product as “a cheap hack for cleaning wood and outside upholstery is distilled vinegar as it can remove bacteria, dirt and grime without harming the wood”.

The product is available at nearly all Tesco stores, though you’re more likely to find it in the cooking section than in the gardening aisle.

The supermarket chain’s website describes the product as “sharp and tangy” and as being perfect for “pickling” – it’s original purpose.

The 568ml bottle can be used on most garden furniture and has received rave reviews from fans.

Several shared the different ways in which they used the product.

One user shared how it doubled as a fabric conditioner and a descaler

The customer wrote: “I use it instead of fabric conditioner for my laundry and as a rinse aid in the the dishwasher. Also good for descaling the kettle and removing limescale from taps.”

The news comes after Brits flocked to their gardens over the weekend, as the UK sizzled in balmy 30C heat

Festivalgoers at Glastonbury have been urged to prepare for more humid weather, though, which averages around 22C.

By the time that the festival’s first headliner comes on stage, temperatures will have fallen to 17C.

Stunning English hospital with woodland gardens named one of the world’s most beautiful buildings

A STUNNING cancer centre has been named as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and it is right here in the UK.

Maggie’s in Yorkshire is no ordinary hospital building – in fact, back in 2022 it won the RIBA Yorkshire Award and the RIBA Yorkshire Building of the Year Award.

Maggie’s in Yorkshire is no ordinary hospital building – it is set in greenery and features light and bright interiors[/caption]

Commended for it’s design, Maggie’s is located in the middle of St James’ University Hospital campus in Leeds and opened back in 2020.

And now it has also just been named as the 19th most beautiful building in the world by Time Out (and the only one in the UK to make the list).

Maggie’s is a charity for cancer patients and the centre in Yorkshire was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, who is known for also designing the London 2012 Olympic cauldron and the revamp of Coal Drop’s Yard in King’s Cross, London.

Time Out commented: “Hospitals tend to be uncomfortable places characterised by too-bright strip lighting and unnervingly squeaky surfaces, but not at this Maggie’s Centre.

“The charity has striven to build personal environments to support cancer sufferers and their families, and this space is comforting and stunning.”

The exterior of the building is made up of whitewashed timber and dark bronze elements, surrounded by greenery and shrubs.

Unlike the clinical greys and whites of usual hospital buildings, Maggie’s feels much warmer with pale wood colours throughout.

As with all Maggie’s Centres, the kitchen is in the middle of the building for both staff and patients along with family members can sit.

The RIBA Journal remarked the building as: “Homely and peaceful, it is a building with real heart and soul.”

The building was the 26th Maggie’s centre to open, but it isn’t the only centre that is beautiful in design.

Other centres have also been designed by notable architects include Norman Foster – the creator of London’s iconic Gherkin – and Ab Rogers – known for designing the Wonderlab n London’s Science Museum.

According to Maggie’s, every centre focuses on ‘healing architecture’ because “great design and architecture can help the people who come to us for support feel better – and help us to give the best possible cancer support”.

Each centre is unique and designed to be “a home from home […] that feel[s] nothing like a hospital”.

The idea to create centre that are unique and homely came from the charity’s co-founder Maggie, who understood that environment and design can have a positive impact on someone dealing with cancer.

Gardens are equally as important as the design of the centres[/caption]

The charity’s website states that “Maggie talked about the need for ‘thoughtful lighting, a view out to trees, birds and sky‘ and the opportunity ‘to relax and talk away from home cares'”.

And those ideas have influenced each and every Maggie’s centre.

Gardens are equally as important as the design of the centres.

Maggie’s works closely with designers to ensure there is a connection between the outside and inside space.

However, it is worth noting that it is still an active cancer centre and therefore, it is important to remain respectful.

Other buildings that featured on Time Out’s list include popular tourist destinations such as the Taj Mahal in India and The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

One of the UK’s most beautiful landmarks also recently announced it will get a £191million upgrade.

‘What’d he shoot?’ – NBA megastar’s visit to Kerry golf course causes stir among Irish basketball fans

NBA superstar Steph Curry posed for photos at a Kerry golf course after completing a round with his basketball royalty family.

The Golden State Warriors point guard is a frequent visitor to Irish shores as he’s previously swapped jerseys with Johnny Sexton.

He’s clearly grown fond of all that Ireland has to offer as an off-season destination – in particular its many links courses.

Recapping his visit to their club, Waterville posted on Instagram: “A very warm welcome to NBA legends Steph Curry, Seth Curry, their father Dell Curry, and fellow NBA star Damion Lee to Waterville Golf Links.

“It was an honour to host such incredible talent from the basketball world – we hope you enjoyed your day on the links!”

The presence of the best shooter in basketball history on the course made for ripe comic material in the comments section.

Jeff jokingly asked: “What’d he shoot?!” Meanwhile Mark laughed at the California-based ace having to wrap in less than ideal conditions.

He added: “Looks like a typical Waterville day!” Finally, another bowled over follower summarised: “The best at the best!!!!”

Curry’s off-season has been in effect since the Warriors were eliminated from the NBA play-offs in the Western Conference semi-finals last month.

The post-season as a whole only came to a dramatic close on Sunday night.

For the first time since the Warriors’ epic 2016 match-up with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, this year’s Finals went all the way to a decisive game seven.

Unfortunately for the Cinderella story Indiana Pacers though, their magical play-off run ended in the most cruel of fashion as talisman Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles early in the first quarter.

This allowed series favourites Oklahoma City Thunder to win on the night by 103-91.

In doing so, the franchise claimed its NBA championship since moving to Oklahoma having previously been based in Seattle when they were known as the SuperSonics.
