Derry City first team coach Andy Mitchell declared their goal is to win the Premier DivisionStephen McCarthy/SportsfileDerry are nine points off Stephen Bradley’s Shamrock Rovers having played two games fewerThomas Flinkow/Sportsfile
And Brandywell first-team coach Mitchell declared: “We have got to catch them, it’s as simple as that.”
The rout was Derry’s biggest league win since a 7-1 drubbing of UCD on Foyleside back in April 2022.
Jamie McGonigle scored a hat-trick on that occasion but on Friday night it was ex-Hearts hitman Liam Boyce who grabbed his first treble for the club to take his season’s tally to eight.
Against the Blues, there were five different goalscorers, including star man Michael Duffy, 30, who has been pivotal to Derry’s revival since the mid-season break.
The ex-Celtic winger was involved in ten of the club’s 12 goals during this four-match winning run, including stunning strikes against Shelbourne and Waterford.
Derry sit second in the Premier Division — nine points adrift of Rovers but with two games in hand — and meet the Hoops twice before the end of the season.
But with Stephen Bradley’s men preparing for Europe, Mitchell is confident his side can stay in the hunt for a first league title since 1997.
He said: “We’re not looking at teams around us — we’re looking at Rovers and we’ve got to catch them. It’s as simple as that.
“We’re not looking to see if Bohs drop points or if Pat’s pick up points — or Shels or Drogheda.
“We don’t really care. We came here to try and do a job — to try and win this league.
“We’ve got to keep looking up and keep looking to catch Rovers.
“We’ve still got to play them twice so we have to keep this consistency going and hopefully when we play them we’re in and around them and we go and take our chance.”
Derry were written off this season after slipping down to sixth, but Glengormley native Mitchell says their recent form is more reflective of the club’s ambitions.
He added: “We didn’t get the consistency, but we’ve managed to find it the past four games and we’re working hard to try and keep this going.”
SupirPete2Black Sabbath fans were shocked as an A-list actor joined them in the mosh pit as Ozzy Osbourne performed for the final time[/caption]

Ozzy Osbourne performed with Black Sabbath for the final time on Saturday night
Called Back To The Beginning, it is frontman and rock veteran Ozzy’s last time performing on stage amid his worsening diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
A number of other legendary bands were on the bill, including Metallic and Slayer, but there was also some serious star power in the crowd.
Fans in the mosh pit at the front of the stadium got a surprise when Aquaman and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa hopped the barrier and joined them.
A video from one audience member saw the 45-year-old actor near the stage during Pantera’s set before heading into the crowd and start to make his way back through the mosh pit.
As the fans realised who it was, he was soon surrounded and fist bumping everyone, before the throng started to jump around him.
The camera then panned back to the stage before returning to the pit, with crowd going around in circles, making it difficult to see if Jason had made it out in one piece or not.
Another fan captured the moment Jason was seen on the big screen jumping around among the crowd.
They captioned it: “Jason Mamoa a real metalhead! Walked into the center of the pit to mosh with the crowd.”
Ozzy, 76, has vowed it will be his final performance due to his deteriorating health. He went public with his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2020.
Back To The Beginning has also featured a mega line-up of fellow rock stars, performing their own sets and as a super-group, and all the profits made will be going to charity.
The money will be shared equally between Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice.
Metallica and Slayer were on the line-up for main sets as they celebrated Ozzy’s remarkable legacy.
Pantera, Gojira, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Lamb Of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon also played at the show.

IF you’re battling with hair loss, fear not, you’ve come to the right place.
And especially if you can’t afford to break the bank on expensive shampoos and posh haircare treatments, don’t worry, we’ve got just the thing for you.
GettyA doctor has revealed why those suffering with hair loss should use a red onion on their scalp[/caption]
A doctor has revealed the secret to combating hair loss – and you may be surprised to know that the key isn’t a high-street supplement or oil.
In fact, according to this pro, a red onion will help to fix your hair loss.
Not only this, but it will also protect against fungus, mould and dandruff too – yes, you heard that correctly.
In a recent video that was posted on YouTube, Dr Eric Berg DC claimed that red onions are “packed with sulphur,” which aids the body in producing keratin, the primary protein found in hair.
These pungent vegetables also boast “the highest amount of quercetin,” which helps combat some of the root causes of hair loss.
The health expert acknowledged: “Quercitin helps increase the growth hormones of the hair follicle.
“It is also a powerful antimicrobial, protecting your scalp from overgrowth of yeast, fungus, mould, and dandruff.”
The remedy involves a simple red onion as it “has the most quercetin” – but instead of eating it, Dr Berg explained how a homemade onion ‘shampoo’ could be an incredibly effective treatment.
To prepare the solution, simply chop and blend a red onion before straining the mixture through cheesecloth to fully separate the liquid from any remaining chunks.
Once the preparation is done, while in the shower, massage the onion juice through damp hair and into the roots for a few minutes.
But don’t rinse it off immediately – instead, Dr Berg advised beauty fans to let the solution sit in your locks for up to an hour and “allow it to work its magic.”
Then, jump back into the shower and “shampoo your hair twice” to wash away any lingering onion smells.
If the smell persists, you can add a dash of lemon juice or some rose water to your hair.
Hair Loss 101
HAIR pro Samantha Cusick has revealed everything you need to know about hair loss.
Why Does Hair Loss Happen?
Hair loss can be influenced by so many factors, from genetics and hormone changes to lifestyle choices.
Stress, diet, and even hair care habits can all impact hair strength.
It’s perfectly normal to lose some hair each day, but sometimes the body can shed more than usual, responding to things like hormonal shifts or even life stressors.
Why It Happens More This Time of Year
Have you ever noticed your hair seems to shed more in autumn? That’s seasonal shedding!
During summer, we hold onto extra hair to protect our scalp from the sun.
As the weather cools, it’s like our body recalibrates and lets go of those extra strands.
Dry, cooler air can also make hair more brittle, making it easier to lose a little extra volume during these months.
Hacks and Affordable Buys to Treat Hair loss
The great news? You don’t need to spend a fortune on pricey treatments to support your hair.
Try daily scalp massages—they’re so simple but really help boost blood flow to the follicles.
Castor oil is another fantastic, budget-friendly option that’s rich in nutrients to strengthen your strands.
Adding a bit more protein to your diet and a biotin supplement can also work wonders for overall hair health.
Products to Avoid
Steer clear of products with high levels of alcohol, sulphates, and parabens – they can be drying and damage hair over time.
Heat styling and chemical treatments can also cause breakage, so try to use them sparingly.
Instead, look for gentle, hydrating formulas to support your scalp and keep hair healthier through the seasons.
Backed by scientific evidence
While this may seem like an online beauty fad, it has been supported by scientific evidence.
Compared to tap water, people who used this raw onion juice treatment for alopecia noticed “significantly higher results with regard to hair re-growth.”
This research involved participants suffering from alopecia areata, a type of patchy, non-scarring hair loss.
It is also a powerful antimicrobial, protecting your scalp from overgrowth of yeast, fungus, mould, and dandruff
Dr Eric Berg DC
The researchers identified that hair growth commenced after just two weeks of applying onion juice to the scalp twice daily.
Not only this, but nearly 74% of the participants witnessed some hair regrowth after four weeks, and by six weeks, around 87% reported regrowth.
Both men and women participated in the study, with men demonstrating a higher rate of hair regrowth.
Won’t break the bank
And fortunately, those strapped for cash will be pleased to know that this DIY haircare remedy doesn’t have to be expensive.
In fact, it’s super affordable and great for those on a budget, as a pack of three red onions can be purchased from Aldi for just 95p, which works out at only 32p per onion.
According to Dr Berg, applying onion juice twice a week for about six weeks is sufficient to ensure hair growth.
While it may take some time to notice results, most people report seeing hair growth after the third or fourth week.
To enhance the onion juice treatment, Dr Berg recommended adding five drops of rosemary oil, which contains phytonutrients linked to hair growth and overall health benefits.
He also suggested fermenting the treatment for up to 72 hours before use, which “enhances the quercetin” and increases the acidity, making it “very therapeutic for your scalp.”
Dr Berg recognised that this solution is not a “miracle cure” and that alongside this, proper nutrition, including consuming enough vitamin D and a balanced diet, is essential for supporting hair health.

IT seems that everyone and their nan is talking about privacy fences this year.
Long gone are the days of talking to your neighbours while sunbathing, now we’ll do anything to keep them out.
suppliedWe tried three of the best privacy fences to keep nosy neighbours out[/caption]
But with over 40 million videos of privacy fences on TikTok alone, it can be hard to navigate which way is the best.
So Fabulous Reporter Leanne Hall and Associate Editor Rebecca Miller decided to put three of the most popular methods to the test.
While Rebecca has an 80ft fence in her back garden to take care of, Leanne has a front garden on a main road in London – both are subject to prying eyes they’d rather keep out.
Ivy Trellis
suppliedThe fake ivy was a cheap and effective method[/caption]
The ivy trellis has become a popular way to give fences an update without forking out thousands on new fence panelling.
The one I picked from AliExpress has a flexible backing which is perfect for me as it’s easy to hang on the iron bars of my fence using cable ties.
I bought three packs of the Dark Green Grape privacy fence panels in a 50×200 size, each pack of two cost £5.28.
This made covering my side of the fence cost just £15.84 – a bargain if you ask me.
Fed up with passersby and dreaded Lime bike users watching my every move in the garden, I was eager to get the privacy panels up.
It’s a simple job and only needs one person to complete.
The ivy is super light, making it easy to hold on to while you secure it with cable ties.
While you can tell the ivy is fake, it still looked pleasant for the price and with some extra plants potted around, it looks perfect in the summer.
Most importantly, it kept neighbours out from seeing inside my garden.
suppliedYou can’t see through from the outside either[/caption]
Bamboo Screening
RM The picket fence offered no privacy for either garden[/caption]
Another popular budget-friendly fence covering is using bamboo screening.
The privacy screen is 4x2m and costs £44.99, but comes in a variety of heights, making it suitable for all gardens.
Rebecca used two screens to cover her side of fence making the hack cost just under £90.
To get it up, you’ll need long screws and mushroom caps to attach the screen to the existing picket fence every foot or so along.
Because of its size, you’ll need an extra pair of hands to get it done; one to screw and one to roll it out and hold it tight. After 10 minutes, both screens were up.
Rebecca adds: “As for how it looks…the screen isn’t entirely opaque; there are tiny gaps between the bamboo rods that let some light through.
“So unless you and your neighbour have a staring competition, you can’t see them.
“Plus, when the sun hits it, it leaves a beautiful dappled effect across the grass. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looks.”
It also comes with a one-year guarantee to make sure it lasts through winter.
RMThe finished result! Now I can potter around my garden freely without my neighbours looking[/caption]
How high can a garden fence be?
Despite what many people think a garden fence can be as high as 100m but you need to get planning permission for any fence taller than 2m.
Any fence under 2m does not need planning permission.
However, there are some complications to this.
If you are thinking about front garden fences, restrictions state that fences alongside a driveway can be a maximum of 1m or 3ft.
You would need to get planning permission for putting a trellis on a fence of 2m.
But, if any plant that you grow on that trellis exceeds 2m, you do not need to obtain a permit for the growing plant.
Shower Curtains
Putting it up was super easy and took just five minutessupplied
So I decided to take matters into my own hands and buy a shower curtain from Amazon for just £10.
I went for a design that featured luscious, thick greenery and a gorgeous lake in the centre so I could attempt to feel like I was on Lake Como while in the heart of London.
While many people who have shared the hack online have used a staple gun to attach it to their fence, I had to opt for a different method.
Because my front garden has iron bars – I used the hooks that came with the shower curtain and put them through each of the holes.
It instantly blocked out the stares from passersby and was much more pleasant to look at than the line of Lime bikes outside my house.
Although it can pass as looking quite nice in pictures, in real life it looks like exactly what it is – a shower curtain in your garden.
But if you’re looking for a quick, cheap and effective method this might be the one for you.

JOSH HONOHAN saved Shamrock Rovers’ blushes as the Hoops’ winless streak at the Showgrounds stretched to four games.
The table-toppers had to come from two goals down to salvage a draw after Jad Hakiki’s double gave Sligo Rovers a dream start.
Josh Honohan scored a dramatic equaliser for Shamrock Rovers against Sligo RoversThomas Flinkow/Sportsfile
A Dan Cleary goal on 33 minutes brought the league leaders back into it before Honohan equalised just past the hour.
The Dubliners were expected to push on and extend their advantage at the top of the Premier Division.
But impressive defending from the home side saw Sligo claim a valuable point in their mission to avoid the drop, extending their unbeaten home run to three games.
The hosts could have won this tie late on, but Francely Lomboto could only fire over in a one-on-one with Ed McGinty.
Armed with four new signings, Sligo boss John Russell gave club debuts to two of his recent acquisitions.
Loanees Ryan O’Kane and James McManus were included in a Sligo XI for the first time.
And the returning Paddy McClean — whose last game for Sligo was against this same opposition on the final day of the 2018 season — started his second stint in the north west at the heart of defence.
Trying to extend their lead at the top to 11 points, the visitors made just one change, with striker Rory Gaffney rewarded for his winner against Waterford, coming in for teenager Michael Noonan.
Striker John McGovern, who was signed from Dungannon back in May, was on the bench.
Chasing a first win at the Showgrounds since the summer of 2023, the Dubliners created the early openings.
A breathless first half featured some wonderful one-touch football from both sides, with Matt Healy and Graham Burke going close for the Hoops early on.
But it was the Bit O’Red who opened the scoring. Will Fitzgerald unsettled the Shamrock Rovers rearguard with a clever short corner, finding Jake Doyle-Hayes.
The Cavan man picked out the late arrival of Hakiki to the front post and the former Dundalk man, unmarked, nodded past McGinty.
The impressive Danny Grant looked set to level it on 22 minutes but lost control of the ball in front of the Sligo goal, following a sublime crossfield ball from Danny Mandroiu.
Stephen Bradley’s charges were made to regret the miss two minutes later.
Golden boy Owen Elding, who has been attracting interest from clubs all over Europe, added to his value with a skilful through-ball to Hakiki.
Instead of using Wilson Waweru who found himself in ample space, Hakiki elected to go himself and was rewarded as he slotted past McGinty for his brace.
The Tallaght men had a shout for a spot-kick turned down when Honohan and Conor Reynolds tangled on Sligo’s endline, while Burke pulled a sharp, two-handed stop from Sam Sargeant seconds later.
Ryan O’Kane leaves the pitch after being substituted during the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division match against Shamrock RoversThomas Flinkow/Sportsfile
The 2023 champions found a way back into the game 12 minutes before the break.
Burke’s initial free-kick was recycled back into the Sligo box by Mandroiu and on to the head of Cleary who headed past Sargeant.
Sligo were almost caught out by a short corner themselves early in the second period. Sargeant got down in time to get in front of a Healy drive from 20 yards after Mandroiu and Dylan Watts combined.
Sargeant then pulled off a superb double save, first from Mandroiu and then Grant as the visitors applied the pressure. The Hoops’ pressing told on 63 minutes when Honohan smashed home Watts’ curling cross.
Although the momentum was with them, Bradley’s side failed to test Sargeant again.
In fact, the hosts could have won it three minutes from time.
Substitute Lomboto attempted to chip ex-Sligo netminder McGinty, but he rushed his finish and skied it over the goal at the Old Shed End.
