‘Think this is the wrong take’, says Lana Del Rey as she hits back at Irish critic who slammed ‘strange’ Aviva gig

POPULAR singer Lana Del Rey has hit back at a scathing review of her “strange” Aviva gig.

The multi-million record selling artist only recently kicked off her sold-out stadium tour – where punters paid as much as €200 for a ticket.

Lana took to the stage at the Aviva in Dublin on Monday, June 30, for her first gig in the country since 2023.

However, fans were left divided by the gig as the concert lasted just a little over an hour and twenty minutes.

Along with the 80 minute runtime, the singer only made it through 14 songs – five of which were from her unreleased new country album and another two were covers.

Additionally, she was absent from the stage during two songs and had a hologram perform in her absence.

After the show, many of her fans took to social media to both praise and air grievances with the performance.

One fan stated: “The crowd was incredible. She was super interactive with fans, along with her dancers and vocalists.”

Ruby took to X to say: “Lana Del Rey played just over an hour set, hid behind a wall for 20 mins, sang the same setlist as the last 3 years, overpriced tickets and is playing covers.”

Audi remarked: “Her voice was amazing – but wtf was with her disappearing for two songs?”

Raquel commented: “The concert was amazing, as always! Have been to Malahide in 2019, 3Arena in 2023, each concert had a different atmosphere and I loved all of them.”

And fans weren’t the only ones with a complaint as Ed Power from the Irish Times wrote a review titled: “Lana Del Rey in Dublin: By far the strangest performance the Aviva has hosted.”

In the article, the music critic made note of the “trim” running time of the show and pondered if the concert was “value for money”.

The Irish Times shared the article on their Instagram, where soon after, Del Rey herself commented on the post under her Honeymoon username.

She wrote: “Ooh I think this is the wrong take on the angle for the story.”

Many of her ardent fans raced to their comments section to bombard the publication with their take on the singer’s gig.

‘WRONG ANGLE’

Irish influencer James Kavanagh quipped: “Is this the same Ed Power who said the Charli XCX concert wasn’t great? That girl needs to be fired lol.”

Fredrica said: “I wish people who didn’t understand Lana didn’t go to her concerts, and more importantly, didn’t review them.”

Igor commented: “As a fan I can say she was brilliant and the concert was beautiful… if you don’t understand Lana’s concept so you won’t understand or enjoy the show … and is fine but for the real fans it was beautiful.”

Another fan added: “100% wrong take. This was an incredible show and insightful to who Lana is as a person.”

Elsewhere on the show, Carol feigned bravado but couldn’t hide her nervousness as Bo was back in town.

When J.J. let Ger know that Bo had been tasked with her hit, she questioned Sharon for information on him.

When Carol discovered that Bo was here for Ger, she confronted Liam, knowing it was him who told Aidan where Ger was staying.

J.J. turned to old associate Ronnie for a favour, but at the last second Bo got a phone call from Ronnie calling off the hit.

And he told J.J. he now owed Ronnie a favour – either he proved Ger was innocent or he must complete the hit himself.

OLD FRIENDS NEW SCHEMES

Elsewhere in Carrigstown, Cass and Nikki searched for the missing toy soldier, while Nikki grew suspicious of Darren.

Later, when the historical society checked the CCTV of the night their artefact went missing they found it was too blurry to find out who took the item.

They decide to pretend that Cass was being arrested for the crime, in a bid to pressure Darren into a confession.

CANNED CONFESSION

And finally, Victor suspected that Babs was giving Lorcan a share of her profits in return for the best jobs – to win their tip bet.

When Babs grew suspicious, Lorcan revealed that he had agreed to a similar deal with Victor.

In order to settle their tips bet, Lorcan showed them their ratings on the taxi app, showing Babs was miles ahead with good reviews and five stars, to her delight.

Yasmin picked Dejon as the ‘least dedicated’[/caption]

The aim of the game is for the Islanders to fly through the city, pair up with their Lois Lanes, and then lift and hold a steel girder overhead before picking up a newspaper with a headline.

Together, the pairs had to decide which of the male Islanders they think have the most and least of that trait.

Yasmin and Gio choose Dejon as the least dedicated.

Yasmin explained her reasoning: “I don’t feel like you’ve dedicated yourself fully to the whole experience.

“I hope you’ve only dedicated to getting to know one person…”

Dejon remarked: “I didn’t know when all of a sudden it’s become a problem wanting one woman.”

Yasmin continued: “There’s other girls in here like Billykiss who picked you to go on a date because she was obviously attracted to you…”

Meg interjects: “Well he clearly doesn’t want her.”

Billykiss: “Well he didn’t say that. He didn’t say he didn’t want me.”

Meg hit back: “It’s not up to you guys, we will decide ourselves.”

She then said to Dejon: “You say you’re open then when she’s not around you don’t act like you’re closed.”

Dejon reacted: “I don’t care about any of your opinions, I know what I want and that’s Meg.”

Billykiss replied: “Well close things off, even on the date when I asked if you were open and you wanted to get to know me, you said yes.”

Dejon fired back: “Please Billykiss, is this like your five minutes of TV or what?

“I don’t understand why you’re still going on.”

After some choice words between her and Meg, the exchange ended with Billykiss told Dejon: “You don’t want to hear the truth which is why you’re feeling sour.”

Viewers were full of praise for Billykiss as she finally delivered some home truths to Meg and Dejon.

One wrote: “PLEASE WE NEED TO VOTE MEG AND DEJON OFF PLEASE!!”

A second posted: “Meg stfu and leave the villa, don’t bring your bitchy attitude to billykiss she’s only saying what everyone thinks.”

A third said: “They’re clocking Dejon it’s been a month, he’s not closing things off with Meg and has his tongue out whenever a new bombshell comes in. Game player.”

A fourth commented: “Close it then Dejon!! Like she needs to close her big mouth when kissing you. You don’t want her and you know it.”

Another said: “Billykiss say your truth!!! Dejon is there to win, close it off if you don’t want anyone else!”

Jack Draper gives worrying update on future Wimbledon prospects as he admits he can’t play on grass

The No4 seed went down 6-4 6-3 1-6 6-4 in two hours and 38 minutes.

Draper, 23, said: “I’m very frustrated. Obviously, really upset. Probably one of the toughest losses I feel.

“I thought Cilic played an incredible match from start to finish. Didn’t let up. He deserved the win. But it hurts a lot.

“It’s highlighted to me this year that I really struggled on the grass in all honesty.

“I felt great on the hard and clay. There weren’t many holes in my game – whereas as soon as I came onto the grass, I felt a big difference.

“It’s just something I’ve got to keep in mind, how I’m going to develop my game for the long-term for next year. Just to get better as a player.

“For sure, it highlighted a lot of weaknesses in my game.

“I mean it makes me think that Andy’s achievement of what he did, winning here twice, just unbelievable.

“It’s not the pressure. I just didn’t play good enough. I lost to a better player.

“I just wasn’t able to find the level I wanted. I came up short.

“The hole in my forehand showed up. I wasn’t able to deal with his pace of ball into my forehand. I was over-spinning a lot.

“I’ve still got a lot of areas that I need to improve in my game.

“There’s a bit of a misconception, just because I’m a 6ft 4ins lefty, I must be incredible on grass. I haven’t had loads of experience on it.”

Former US Open champion and 2017 Wimbledon runner-up Cilic, 36, said: “The emotions are just incredible.

“Where I was two years ago, I cannot even describe. It’s been a long journey.

“I never lost any doubt. It was long and testing. It’s incredible to win this. Thanks to the crowd for great sportsmanship.”
