EastEnders star breaks silence after she quits soap – and final scenes air TODAY

EASTENDERS actress Clair Norris has broken her silence on her soap exit.

The star has played the role of Bernadette Taylor in the BBC soap opera for eight years but her final scenes are now playing out today.

She is leaving her role as Bernie Taylor[/caption]

It marks the end of an era for the Walford-based soap, as her exit brings an end to the Taylor family, with all characters from the show having left or been axed by show bosses.

Actress Clair has now shared a heartfelt message about her time on the show as she bids farewell to Albert Square.

Taking to social media, the star penned: “My last ep airs tonight
& with that comes a flood of memories…

“EastEnders was my first audition, and my first job.

“Having come from college & having no experience in this industry, Julia, Wayne & Sean all took a chance on me to play Bernadette Taylor & for that, I can’t be thankful enough.

“8 years later and honestly this job, has changed my life.”

Clair continued: “It’s true what they all said at the beginning, EastEnders is one big family & I’m so lucky to have met and worked with some amazing people.

“I will always have an attachment to Bernie, she represents so many girls out there who wear their heart of their sleeves and don’t quite fit in…no offence to anyone who wear purple coats…

“I have adored playing her and she will forever hold a special place in my heart.

“This has been the best first role ever!!!”

Bernie departed on-screen alongside her cousin Felix Baker.

Viewers discovered last week how Bernie had been stealing from the Panesars after being left over-all control of the business empire by Nish after his death at Christmas.

Realising what was going on, Ravi and Vinny set a trap for Bernie to expose her as the thief – giving her another chance to steal from them.

But they had no idea Bernie wasn’t planning to stick around to face the consequences.

Now, her time is up[/caption]

She packed her bags and convinced Felix to come with her

Having fallen for Ravi and Vinny’s trap and taken another £25,000 from the Panesar businesses, Bernie and Felix were set to leave.

But as they headed to the cab, Suki got in the way and stopped them with other members of The Six watching.

“She stole from me,” said Suki.

“No, you did,” hit back Bernie. “You all did. You stole from me and my family. Something that I can never get back.”

Kathy and Linda begged Suki to let Bernie go with the cash, and she stepped aside.

Bernie and Felix climbed into the cab and drove off – just as Ravi emerged to watch the shocking development.

Pool sex assault epidemic sweeps Germany with 74 attacks in just one region after Syrian men arrested for ‘groping kids’

A DISTURBING epidemic is sweeping through Germany with hundreds of people reporting sexual assaults in public swimming pools.

In one of the worst hit regions, 74 alleged attacks have been recorded recently with several involving children – including eight young girls in one day.

Just last weekend, four men were arrested over sexual assault claims at the Barbarossabad swimming pool in Hesse[/caption]

The issue has started to raise questions across Germany after a concerning number of reports were made last weekend.

Cops arrested four Syrian suspects, aged 18 to 28, and accused them of sexually assaulting up to eight girls in a public swimming pool in Hesse.

They were aged between 11 to 16 and had all been at the Barbarossabad pool on the same day.

And now further stats have shown a total of 74 cases of sexual violence were registered in Hesse’s swimming pools alone in 2024.

The study, done by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), marks a worrying trend in the region with the number rising from 2023.

It also provided an insight into the main culprits of the alleged assaults.

In 60 per cent of cases, the suspects were not born in Germany.

And out of the 57 people questioned by cops over the allegations, only two were women.

Hesse’s Interior Minister Roman Poseck has made it clear that any formal complaint must be taken seriously so any recurring fiends can be taken off the streets.

He demanded: “The incidents at the swimming pool in Gelnhausen must be investigated swiftly and comprehensively.

“We must not allow our swimming pools to become sites of sexual assault.”

Elsewhere, Cologne has been forced to put up makeshift posters raising awareness of potential poolside dangers.

The sign shows a blonde man grabbing a young woman from behind as they both swim.

The heading reads: “Stop! No groping!”

There are said to be dozens of the posters spread across the city.

Despite the concerning national rise, German police are refusing to say swimming pools have become a hotspot for sexual crimes.

But Peter Harzheim, the president of the Federal Association of German Swimming Masters (BDS), says the numbers are worrying.

He said: “Many people are getting out of control because the sun is shining on their brains.

“The number of skilled workers is decreasing, which creates the risk that we will no longer be able to keep an eye on everything and intervene accordingly.”

The issue has been a long-standing one for many Germans.

Back in 2016, a town banned male asylum seekers from a public swimming pool after several women complained of harassment.

A government official in Bornheim said the men would be barred until they “got the message” that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Chilling property ad inadvertently reveals haunting lost terror clues linked to massacre of 51 people

A PROPERTY listing has inadvertently revealed haunting lost terror clues linked to the massacre of 51 people in New Zealand.

In 2019, white supremacist Brenton Tarrant, now 34, opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch, heinously targeting worshippers inside.

Australian Tarrant targeted Muslim communities, shooting at Al Noor mosque and Linwood mosque in March that year.

The terrorist pleaded guilty to 51 murders, 40 attempted murders and one charge of committing a terrorist act during the shooting rampage.

Graphic footage of the attack was live-streamed on Facebook via a headcam he was wearing.

Tarrant told police officers that it was his plan to burn down the mosques after his attack – and that he wished he’d done so.

The terrorist was sentenced in August 2020 and will spend the rest of his life locked up.

Now over six years on, a property listing has revealed harrowing clues linked to the massacre.

Investigative journalist Joey Watson discovered that the apartment on the real estate website was where Tarrant lived before he launched the heinous attack.

The property listing appears normal initially, with a fairly desolate kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

But pictured on the desk in the study is a computer, logged in, with the screen completely visible.

Watson observed on the desktop home screen a saved Word document thought to be Tarrant’s 74-page manifesto he wrote released before the massacre.

In the manifesto, Tarrant described how he’d been preparing for the attack since his trip to Europe two years prior.

During his visit to France, he’d described a town in Eastern France as a “cursed place”, calling immigrants “invaders”.

The author of the disturbing manifesto said he was inspired by Anders Breivik – the far-right terrorist who killed 69 children of a Workers’ Youth League on the island of Utøya in Norway in 2011.

The computer’s background image also bears haunting clues linked to the attack, as it shows a painting from the 1860s called Among the Sierra Nevada by Albert Bierstadt.

This painting is said to have reached popularity with extremists on dark internet sites visited by terrorists, Watson explained on his podcast Secrets We Keep: Lone Actor.

The bombshell discovery comes years after New Zealand Police said it had never recovered the terrorist’s computer.

Journalist Watson even downloaded the image and discovered it had been taken on March 4, 2019 – 11 days before the tragedy.

Two other icons on the homescreen were spotted – an anonymity browser often used to access the dark web called Tor, as well as a software called Eraser that permanently deletes files.

Discord – a messaging app created for gamers – was also seen on the listing by Watson installed on the computer.

The app had been used in the past by an international community of neo-Nazi groups which became collectively known as the Skull Mask network, according to Watson.

Skull Mask is said to have emerged from an extremist forum called Iron March.

Watson revealed how terrorist Tarrant was connected to such networks and posted on extremist groups.

The Christchurch massacre

The devastating attack at the Masjid Al Noor Mosque and the nearby Linwood Masjid took place at around 1.40pm on Friday, March 14, 2019.

The gunman opened fire on the two mosques, targeting worshippers inside.

He then returned to his car to pick up another weapon and resumed firing inside.

He then shot two more people outside the Linwood Islamic Centre.

Tarrant reportedly had been on a seven-year trip around the world before the attack after his dad Rodney Tarrant died of cancer aged 49.

The attack prompted New Zealand to reform its gun laws – banning military-style semi-automatic weapons.

His grandmother told news outlet 9News that she believed these travels changed him, saying: “It’s only since he travelled overseas I think that boy has changed completely to the boy we knew”.

In his manifesto which he posted online before the attack, he said: “I had little interest in education.

“I did not attend university as I had no great interest in anything offered in the universities to study.”

Emmerdale legend signs new contract amid soap cuts and slashed episodes

Created by Kevin Laffan, it first broadcast on 16 October 1972 and produced by ITV Yorkshire.

EMMERDALE legend Chris Chittell has signed a new deal to keep him in the village into his 40th year.

The actor – who plays scheming businessman Eric Pollard in the ITV soap – will mark the momentous milestone next year in September 2026.

Chris made his debut on the show in 1986[/caption]

A source said: “Chris is Emmerdale and there was no way he wasn’t going to make it to 40 years in the village.

“It’s such a big achievement and he loves being on the show just as much as he did when he first joined.

“There are big things coming for Eric well into next year.”

The signing comes as the ITV soap has undergone cuts that will see it drop to five episodes a week from January.

He first appeared on the soap in 1986 as a villain for just a 12 episode stint but quickly made an impression on bosses who signed him up for a full-time return.

Over the years he has been at the centre of some of Emmerdale’s biggest storylines including the heartbreaking death of wife Val Pollard in the helicopter crash.

His most recent storyline has seen him diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The long-running storyline has seen Eric slowly decline as the incurable condition progresses.

Earlier this year Chris’ real-life wife Lesley Dunlop quit the soap as his on-screen partner Brenda Walker after 16 years.

Back in 2017 Chris hinted at his own retirement, saying: “I can see Pollard heading downhill in five or 10 years’ time.

“But you’re only ever as good as your last storyline. I’ve always said that when the writers stop writing for Pollard, I’d leave.

“And although I’d hate it, I’d just shake everyone’s hand and say thank you very much, as the journey has been wonderful.

Eric Pollard's biggest Emmerdale storylines

By Conor O’Brien

As Emmerdale’s current longest-serving character, Eric Pollard has seen his fair share of drama.

Introduced in 1986, the character was originally portrayed as a villain – but this has been since downplayed.

Here is a look back at some of Eric’s biggest storylines from over the years.

  • Long lost son: Having had an affair with Lydia Halliwell, Eric left unaware that she was pregnant. His son David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) arrived in the village during 2006 – and ended up staying until 2023.
  • Marriages: Eric has tied the knot on five occasions. His five ex-wives are Eileen Pollock, Elizabeth Feldmann, Dee la Cruz, Gloria Weaver and Val Lambert. Eric’s current partner is Brenda Walker – played by actor Chris Chittell’s real-life wife Lesley Dunlop.
  • Bigamy: Upon marrying Elizabeth in October 1992, she was unaware he was still legally married to first wife Eileen. As a result, he was therefore committing bigamy.
  • Parkinson’s diagnosis: In 2023, Eric left fans heartbroken after it was revealed he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s – the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.

“But when it does happen, I’ll just have to get the fishing rod out.”

An Emmerdale spokeswoman declined to comment.
