Former Carlow Rose of Tralee marries London escort at stunning wedding in Portugal nine years after meeting

A FORMER Rose of Tralee star has got married at a stunning wedding in Portugal.

Emma O’Byrne and her husband Martin Davey tied the knot last Friday on June 20.

The beautiful bride represented Carlow in the 2016 Rose of Tralee festival and Martin acted as an escort for the London Rose in the same year.

The pair didn’t actually spend a lot of time together during the main event but they caught each other’s eyes during a BBQ the day after the competition.

Martin got down on one knee and popped the question in 2023.

And nine years later, Emma and Martin have exchanged vows and become Mr and Mrs.

The happy couple legally got married in Ireland in May and celebrated the occasion at Mount Falcon Estate in Mayo.

They were then surrounded by 140 of their loved ones for their glamorous wedding in Portugal last week.

And the newly weds looked more in love than ever in heart-melting photos taken by Matt and Lena Photography.

Emma stunned in a Milla Nova white floor-length ball gown from Amore Bridalwear Youghal.

The fabulous sleeveless frock was fitted on the bodice and flowed out into a long train.

The psychologist had her luscious locks pulled back off her face into a low bun.

She finished off her bridal look wearing a white veil and a pair of white pointed-toe kitten heels.

Martin looked dapper wearing a classic black suit with a white shirt and black dickie bow.

The couple made sure to have a few Irish touches for their big day with an Irish poem and a few traditional songs performed.

JUST ROSIE

A table of Roses were invited to join in on the special day including Maggie McEldowney and her husband John Slowey.

Maggie was the winner of the iconic RTE series back in 2016 as the Chicago Rose after her third attempt at applying for the show.

At the time of the show, Maggie was dating Chicago Fire Service worker Jim FitzGibbon, who could not attend the festival due to work matters.

Instead, John stepped in and escorted the Irish lady on her big day – and the rest is history.

John got down on one knee and proposed while they were out golfing in Chicago in August 2024.

And after just 10 months being engaged, the pair have exchanged their vows for each other last month.

The love birds got married last weekend on Saturday, May 24, in a beautiful ceremony in Hilton Chicago Oak Brook Hills Resort in Chicago.

They were surrounded by their loving family and friends, with many of them flying over from Ireland.

Why tenniscore is my go-to for all-weather-wear for Wimbledon & other summer occasions, says fashion pro

Collage of women's clothing and accessories.

WITH Wimbledon just around the corner, tenniscore has made a triumphant comeback on and off the court.

And as the pros prepare for the prestigious tournament next week, spectators are turning their attention to what to wear.

Collage of women's summer fashion items.
For looks that serve this summer, try tenniscore

This year, hot weather is on the cards, with temperatures expected to hit 33 degrees on the opening day.

So choosing what to wear is more important than ever – and comfort is key.

But from lightweight breezy trousers to poplin skirts and comfy footwear, there are plenty of high-street buys to help make your looks serve this season, whether you’re watching the tennis or hitting up a BBQ.

The Fabulous fashion team has pulled together a range of different styles that’ll keep you cool and stylish, so whatever the occasion this summer, you will look ace!

Emily Regan, 25, Fashion Assistant

When it comes to big events, I love dressing for a theme.

This tennis-racket printed skirt is a great option from Boden – it gives a nod to the occasion and is so easy to wear.

I’ve leaned into the Wimbledon whites trend and paired it with this light knit polo top and white denim jacket from H&M, both of which I’ll be able to wear again throughout the year.

This jute bag is extra large so it will fit in all my essentials for the day, and will double up as a great beach bag, too.

I’ve finished off the look with a pair of white heels and a cute tennis bag charm, but I’ll definitely be taking sandals with me for the commute.

While I’d love to dress in an all-white Wimbledon-inspired outfit, I’m a liability as my whites don’t stay white for very long.

Instead, I’ve opted for this green striped dress, a nod to the Wimbledon lawn colours – and with the puff sleeve and square neckline, it’s the perfect throw-on dress for summer.

I couldn’t believe how cute this woven bag from Rixo was when I first saw it and it complements the dress perfectly.

A pair of sensible ballet flats, sunglasses and some jewellery, and I’m all (game) set (and match).

Battle the unreliable weather with light layering like Tracey[/caption]

Comfort is always my go-to these days, especially if I will be outside all day.

Let’s face it, the weather might be chilly and overcast one minute and boiling hot the next.

A lightweight knit is always my go-to for all-weather wear, so this short-sleeved polo knit from COS is just perfect, plus I have opted for white wide-leg trousers because white expels the heat and if it turns into a scorcher, I won’t get sunburned.

A raffia hat, statement sunglasses, a massive bag and flat comfy shoes will ensure that I feel as cool as the cucumber in my Pimm’s and I enjoy every second of the tennis!

What’s the best style that suits everyone?

ACCORDING to the fashion pros at Fabulous, there's a new style of dress that suits all body shapes.

Low-slung, dropped-waist silhouette styles have surged, thanks to the Noughties fashion trend that has swept the catwalks, social media and, of course, the high street.

First seen on the runways of luxury labels Molly Goddard and Jil Sander, the style typically cinches around the hip and pelvic area rather than the waist.

Now a plethora of more affordable options of the dress that suits a number of body shapes have dropped just as the sun starts to come out.

Clemmie Fieldsend, Fashion Editor, said: “There’s something so stylish about these dresses, and I love them.

“The simplicity of the top half teamed with the full skirt is like a sleeker and more grown-up tutu.

“I have a short torso so the dropped waist makes my body look longer, but, thankfully, the long skirt means your legs don’t look shorter.

“Plus it means I can tap into the low-waist trend without baring all in a pair of low-slung jeans.

“I know I’ll be living in mine all summer, paired with black sandals and sunnies, but for now all I need is a blazer slipped over the top and a closed-toe shoe and I’m ready to go.”

Meanwhile, Fashion Director, Tracey Lea Sayer, added: “I remember dropped-waist dresses from the 80s. I loved them then and I still love them again now!

“Forty years on from when they were first popular and I am not so sure they will be quite as flattering around my middle, because two kids and middle-aged spread later, my waist doesn’t exist any more.

“With a dress like this I can disguise my middle bit and still feel on trend for summer.”

Newly single Orlando Bloom cosies up to Kim Kardashian at Jeff Bezos’ wedding – after split with Katy Perry is revealed

ORLANDO Bloom put on a cosy display with Kim Kardashian after his split with popstar Katy Perry was revealed.

The duo have headed to Venice as part of Amazon chief Jeff Bezos, 61, and 55-year-old fiancee Lauren Sanchez’s star-studded wedding guest contingent.

Reports suggested Orlando would be ‘making his debut as a single man’ following his reported split with fiancee Katy Perry[/caption]

It comes after reports the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 48, would “make his debut as a single man” at the A-List wedding of the year’s three-day celebration.

Clearly eager to embrace his stunning Italian surroundings – and escape speculation over his situation with the Roar hitmaker, 40 – he has touched down ahead of the nuptials.

Orlando was seen looking casual in a black vest top and shorts, finishing off with white sports socks.

He was seen stretching out as he strolled around the picturesque Italian streets with a pal, before spotting Kim, 44, and sister Khloe, 40, at nearby restaurant, The Gritti Palace.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum Kim looked chic in black Balenciaga trousers paired with a dark bandeau top.

She pulled on a pair of silver sunglasses and brushed her locks into a slicked-back up-do and was seen opening her arms to welcome the Lord Of The Rings actor into an embrace.

Her sister Khloe, decked out in bold leopard-print, could be seen watching the pair as she stood alongside.

The trio then sat at the same table as wedding attendees mingling at the pre-ceremony event.

Jeff and Lauren’s wedding venue was recently revealed as an “open air theatre” on a Venetian island.

A series of jaw-droppingly pricey hotel suites have also been booked out for the happy couple and their guests.

Kim and Orlando’s warm welcome came after it was reported Katy – who shares daughter Daisy with Orlando from their 10-year partnership – told pals they were over back in January.

The I Kissed A Girl songstress won’t be part of the wedding celebrations – despite cutting a striking figure in a see-through top at Lauren’s Hen – as she is on tour.

ALL CHANGE

Last week, The Sun reported how Orlando and Katy held crisis talks to try to save their relationship after leading increasingly separate lives.

American news website TMZ then said Brit-born Orlando would be “the life of the party” and that he would be hitting “the dancefloor hard” when he arrives in Italy for the nuptials.

An insider said: “No one has decided it’s definitely the end of the road for Katy and Orlando.

“They both love each other, but they have been living different lives for at least a year and in different mindsets.”

It’s understood Orlando and Katy are planning on reuniting on July 4 when there is a break in her touring schedule.

The insider added: “They have barely been together for a decent amount of time, without distractions, for many, many months.”

Tensions within their relationship also reached boiling point after Katy’s flight to space on board Jeff’s Blue Origin.

Katy, along with Lauren and Gayle King, were hit with a public backlash and those close to Orlando said he had warned Katy about taking part.

They said: “From day one, Orlando didn’t think going on the Blue Origin mission was a good idea, and knew she would face a backlash.”

DONE DEAL?

Yet it was then claimed Katy – who is on tour in Australia – had told her mates their engagement was over at the start of the year, before removing her engagement ring.

A source close to the couple said: “Katy confided in friends at the start of the year that their relationship was as good as done

“They decided to hold off on announcing anything in case things improved between them, because they are desperate to stay together for the sake of their daughter.

“But they have spent barely any time together this year, with Katy on tour and Orlando working on his upcoming film Bucking Fastard in Dublin.

“She knew that taking off her engagement ring would send a clear message.

“It’s been a hard year so far. They wanted to wait until the tour is over before they made their split official, although Katy has grown tired of the situation.”

The couple started dating in 2016 and got engaged three years later. However, The Sun understands they had difficult conversations about their future over Christmas and in January but struggled to make a firm decision.

Reps for the couple refused to comment when approached about their separation in February and again this week.

Judge ‘anxious to maintain’ anticipated date for alleged historical sex offences trial of Jeffrey Donaldson & wife

A JUDGE wants all sides to work towards ensuring the trial of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife on charges relating to alleged historical sex offences goes ahead in November.

A previous court hearing had been told that there had been a deterioration in the medical condition of Eleanor Donaldson.

A brief review of the case at Newry Crown Court on Thursday heard that an assessment over whether she is currently fit to stand trial will take place next month.

The trial had previously been due to start in March, but was delayed because of Eleanor Donaldson’s ill health.

A new trial date has been set for November 3.

Jeffrey Donaldson, 62, who did not attend the hearing on Thursday, has pleaded not guilty to 18 alleged offences.

The charges include one count of rape as well as allegations of indecent assault and gross indecency.

The charges span a time period between 1985 and 2008, and there are two alleged victims.

Eleanor Donaldson, 59, of Dublinhill Road, Dromore, who also did not attend court, is facing charges of aiding and abetting, which she denies.

Prosecuting barrister Fiona O’Kane told the court that the hearing had been organised to ensure “all matters are still on track”.

Eleanor Donaldson’s barrister, Ciara Ennis, said there was a “firm date” for her client to see a forensic psychiatrist on July 18.

She said: “There is absolutely no reason I can see at this point that it won’t go ahead as planned.”

FURTHER REVIEW

Judge Paul Ramsey said that the case had already been listed for review again on August 1 in Belfast.

He said: “By that stage you should have the report, or at least a summary of the findings of the report.

“The prosecution will then decide what they want to do.”

Ms O’Kane said the prosecution had been “proactive” and had instructed their own psychiatrist, pending the results of the report from the forensic psychiatrist.

‘ANXIOUS TO MAINTAIN’

Judge Ramsey said: “The other thing we have to keep in mind, that we are moving towards the anticipated date of the trial, which I am anxious to maintain and keep.”

Ms O’Kane said: “There is a triumvirate of interests going on here, obviously the complainants are very keen that this matter is progressed, we have the public at large who have an interest in the case, and then there are the defendants themselves.”

Judge Ramsey said: “I think everybody should work towards that date in any event. Hopefully we will see what matters progress.”

Jeffrey Donaldson, the long-standing MP for Lagan Valley, was arrested and charged at the end of March last year.

RESIGNATION

He resigned as DUP leader and was suspended from the party after the allegations emerged.

Weeks before his arrest, he had led the DUP back into Stormont after a two-year boycott of the powersharing institutions.

Previous deputy leader Gavin Robinson was appointed his successor as DUP chief.

THE HISTORY OF PENNEYS

THE Penneys brand grew from humble beginnings on Dublin's Mary Street, where it opened its first store in 1969.

Known as Primark outside Ireland, the company was the brainchild of Garfield Weston, who hired Dubliner Arthur Ryan to make his vision reality.

Penneys branched into the UK in 1973 with its first store opening in Derby. The UK now has 191 Primark stores in total.

However, the Penneys name could not travel to Britain as the American retailer JC Penney had the right to use the name in the region.

And in 2006, the expansion into Europe began with an opening in Spain, followed by the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France and Italy.

Primark went Stateside for the first time in September 2015, with the opening of a store in Boston. There are now 27 stores in America with branches in Florida, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The retailer’s opened its largest store in Birmingham in 2019.

It spans five floors and features Primark’s biggest beauty studio to date, a barbers and three restaurants.

Colson revealed he’d filmed an episode of Celebrity Mastermind[/caption]

Taking to his Instagram story, Colson teased when fans can next see him on-screen.

The 26-year-old revealed he’s filmed an episode of Celebrity Mastermind.

Colson posted a snap of himself sitting in the BBC show’s famous black chair — with the caption “Find out in December”.

The actor obscured his specialist subject and asked followers to guess what it could be.

When Hannah Montana emerged as an answer, Colson confirmed he “wasn’t allowed” to pick the popular Disney show.

He explained: “Can I just say how much I love that I’ve had about 6000 suggestions of Hannah Montana! I really did try!”

Colson played Craig Tinker from 2011 until his final scenes which aired in May 2025.

As part of the dramatic exit, Craig was attacked with a baseball bat by drunk villain Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton).

Rushed to hospital, the young police officer later passed away from the injuries.

In January, Colson first revealed he would be waving goodbye to the cobbles later in the year.

He penned on Instagram at the time: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.

“I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.

“I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home.

“I’m excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is the end of the beginning.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • “I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.”

Away from the soap, Colson also took part in Celebrity Big Brother during its first series on ITV.

He placed third overall, behind winner David Potts and runner-up Nikita Kuzmin.

A year later, his Corrie co-star and On The Sofa podcast co-host, Jack P. Shepherd, went on to win the series.
