Rocker Ricky Wilson reveals bizarre moment he held hand of Hollywood A-lister while watching Elton John at Glastonbury

THERE’S something about Glastonbury that makes you act in the most weird and wonderful ways.

And Ricky Wilson admits his last visit in 2023 saw him holding hands with an A-list actor while caught up in the moment.

The Kaiser Chiefs singer reveals how he shared a bizarre moment with actor Andrew Garfield at Glastonbury
The Mega Agency

In an exclusive chat at Bizarre HQ before he opens the Pyramid Stage on Saturday afternoon with the Kaiser Chiefs, he explains: “I stood in the crowd watching Elton John and then I noticed Andrew Garfield was next to me.

“When Your Song started, our hands happened to brush past each other. I said to Andrew, ‘Shall we?’. He nodded and we just held hands. He won’t deny it if you ask him.”

It wasn’t the only strange thing to happen to Ricky at that Glasto, as he recalls: “I dressed up as Elvis Presley — the full jumpsuit, everything. I was supposed to be doing some songs in Block9 but I got there and didn’t bother.

“I was with Leigh Francis and we ended up going to Glastonbury-on-Sea instead and we did the bingo calling twice.”

This year, Ricky is heading down with his wife Grace, and the couple have booked into a posh hotel close to the site before his performance.

He’s already lined up their must-see acts including Pulp, who are playing a secret set on Saturday under the pseudonym Patchwork.

“I’ve never met Jarvis Cocker but I don’t want to because I’d regret anything I said,” says Ricky. “Then you’ve got the double header with The Libertines and Rod Stewart on Sunday. Those are Grace’s two favourites and I’ve introduced her to them both.”

Ricky’s return to the Pyramid Stage comes 20 years after the Kaisers first played there in 2005 following the release of their breakthrough album Employment.

“I didn’t really appreciate the magnitude of playing there,” Ricky says. “We were playing so many shows, I was just taking it in my stride. We’d just released Employment and we’d be playing to 200 people in Italy, then 1,000 people in America.

“Then we got back to the UK and we didn’t realise how big it had got here until we arrived at Glastonbury and the crowd was mental. Everyone knew the words to our songs. It blew us away.”

Of their set this year, Ricky teased: “We’ve been on tour with Employment to celebrate the 20th anniversary and at those shows we’ve been playing it in full.

“We thought about just doing that but we’ve got too many other songs that would be missed.

“Many people know the songs but we’ve also got weapons in our arsenal that may be bigger.”

I look forward to hearing those shots fired on Saturday.

And if you see Elvis wandering around Worthy Farm, it might be worth double checking it’s not Ricky back in his disguise.

PALOMA’S BANG TO WHITES

PALOMA FAITH wore white while she still could before heading to Worthy Farm.

The singer wore this daring dress to the 25th annual Butterfly Ball in aid of Caudwell Children at The Dorchester in London on Wednesday.

The bash raised over £1.5m and Paloma, is now hotfooting it down to Somerset.

Another musician who’s heading there is Lily Allen.

That will build hopes she will join Olivia Rodrigo for her headline set on Sunday, having been a surprise guest when Olivia played in 2022.

Lily, who once passed out in a field at Glasto in 2015, said on her Miss Me podcast: “I went to see Charli XCX.

“I was drinking non-alcoholic beers and thinking, ‘I can do this’. I could get there and go, ‘This is too much,’ and leave.”

Well, with the luxury of a free ticket, yes.

GARY: I'M NOTE A SINGER

GARY LINEKER wants to play Glastonbury, but he’s admitted he’s so musically useless he is having to make do with a Q&A this weekend.

Asked if he’d swap his FA Cup medal for a slot on the Pyramid Stage, Gary said: “If I could sing! If I had a voice or I could play an instrument, I’d absolutely adore that.

“I think with musicians, there’s no one trying to stop them playing.

“In football, there’s always someone trying to. In music, pretty much everyone in the crowd is on your side. That must be amazing, when everyone’s singing along, and you’re not thinking: I might be s*** today and everyone will hate me. Or maybe they do?!”

It doesn’t sound like he’d have much luck as a DJ. He added: “I’d wheel in one of my sons to help me spin, what do you call it, house tech?”

Errr I think you mean house or techno, Gary.

LOO-UIS’ IDEAL CAMP SITE

LOUIS TOMLINSON might be worth millions – but he chose to keep it real by camping close to the toilets.

An onlooker said: “Louis loves to be a man of the people and he loves camping at Glastonbury – even though he’s got the cash to stay somewhere posh.

“His tent is erected near the loo’s and they’re with a big group of friends.

“He was knocking back cans of Red Bull with Zara as they hung out with their mates. Zara isn’t camping like Louis though – she’s off site.

“They looked like they were having a ball and Louis was really affectionate towards Zara and was making sure she had everything she needed.

“She was stroking his back and had a massive smile on her face.”

WHAT TO WATCH ON THE BOX

THE BBC will be providing wall-to-wall coverage – apart from Neil Young who is opposing it – so there will be hours of performances to watch.

Here are our picks of what you should not miss.

OLIVIA RODRIGO Sunday, 9.45pm – Pyramid Stage

THE youngest woman to ever headline Glastonbury, Olivia, left, had one of the best sets in 2022 so will be a brilliant closer to the event.

JADE Saturday, 3.15pm – Woodsies

SHE has dreamed of it for years and has promised to pull out all the stops for her set. Jade is one of the best new pop stars going and is bound to put on a belting show.

SIR ROD STEWART

Sunday, 3.45pm – Pyramid Stage

THE music icon will be watched by an estimated 100,000 in the Legend’s slot and has teased three special guests. He has said it will be his final Glasto, so it’s set to be massive.

MYLES SMITH

Friday, 12.45 pm – Woodsies

MY top choice for this year’s festival, Myles has brilliant songs like Stargazing and I can’t wait to see him undoubtedly pull a massive crowd to kick things off.

PATCHWORK

Saturday, 6.15pm – Pyramid Stage

ALMOST certainly a pseudonym for PULP, organiser EMILY EAVIS says she has been working on booking this mystery act for over a year, so it’s not going to be one to miss.

CHARLI XCX

Saturday, 10.30pm – Other Stage

BRINGING “Brat Summer” into 2025, Charli will light up your Saturday night with her high-octane set, which is expected to feature a string of special guests.

GRACIE ABRAMS

Friday, 6.45pm – Other Stage

THIS set is sure to be a real moment for one of music’s rising stars. Her No1 That’s So True will be a singalong.

A GIGANTIC, terrifying blow-up doll will appear with Lola Young on the Woodsies Stage later today.

Fans spotted the massive prop being brought on to site on the back of a lorry on Wednesday.

The Messy singer has had a big year, so I’m sure the tent will be packed for her performance.

WORTHY Farm just got a lot more sweaty following the arrival of rising star Jack Cullen.

The former rugby player, who moved into music after surgery ended his sports career, cycled over 650 miles from his home in Edinburgh for his debut on Sunday.

On stopovers during his marathon ride, Jack played in pubs and cafes. His new single, All I Need, is out now – with an EP scheduled for release later this year.

If you’re down by the Wishing Well on Sunday and fancy catching Jack live, he will play at 2.30pm.

Hopefully he’ll have cooled down by then. And managed to get to the front of the queue for the showers.

IT was emotional first day on site for James Norton – as he opened up about his split from actress Imogen Poots last year.

During a talk at arena site Silver Hayes, the Happy Valley actor said: “I got broken up with and it was massive.

“I thought I was going to have kids.

“The life I thought I was going to have disappeared at 38.”

James, who is now dating Lily Allen, said there are no hard feelings now though.

He added: “It was a gift in a weird, roundabout way.

“She called it. She realised it wasn’t working.

“I’m crazily grateful for the pain she caused me.”

Brit woman among two killed in horror gas explosion at bar in Spanish hols hotspot

A BRITISH woman has died in a suspected sabotage gas explosion at a bar in southern Spain that killed two and injured at least 15 others.

A butane gas canister exploded at the Casa Javi bar in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia.

The 56-year-old expat, who lived in the Lo Pagan area, was one of two women fatally injured in last Thursday’s blast.

She was reportedly visiting the weekly market when she was caught in the horror explosion.

Her death was confirmed today by the local town hall in a post on X.

The second victim, named Hind, was a 38-year-old Moroccan woman and the bar’s owner, El Español reported.

She suffered severe burns and died after being hospitalised for a week.

Both women had been battling for their lives in hospital alongside others injured in the explosion, which went off around 12.15pm, sending the area into chaos.

Shocking new details have emerged suggesting the blast may not have been an accident.

A Judicial Police inspection concluded the gas cylinder’s seal had been “sabotaged”, according to reports.

Locals have claimed the bar had long been a source of trouble in the neighbourhood.

“There were a lot of fights outside,” one resident told 20Minutos, adding: “Girls were often seen in the area,” sparking speculation it may have been run as a brothel.

The cause of the deadly blast is still officially unknown.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Rob Rinder and Rylan Clark bag a surprise new series of their show after their Bafta triumph

An image collage containing 1 images, Image 1 shows Rylan Clark and Rob Rinder in Florence, Italy

FIRST they took a trip to Italy, then India and now Rob Rinder and Rylan Clark are off on another Grand Tour adventure.

I can reveal the duo are making a third series of their acclaimed BBC Two travelogue even though the second season, which they filmed last year, is yet to air.

It comes after the popularity of Rob & Rylan’s Grand Tour among viewers and critics alike led the show to scoop a telly Bafta.

An insider said: “The success of the show was as much a surprise to the boys as it was to anyone else because it was almost a TV experiment.

“What would happen if you take two people — one from highbrow culture, the other from pop culture — and send them off on their travels? The answer is hilarious, moving and educational telly, loved by both the viewers, critics and the execs alike.

“It’s relatively early days yet, and it’s not clear where the third series will take them.”

The first series of Rob and Rylan’s cultural adventure took them from Venice to Florence and Rome, and bagged them the Factual Entertainment gong at the Baftas TV Awards in May, beating the BBC’s ratings hit, Race Across the World.

Receiving his gong, a stunned Rylan said: “This is so surreal, thank you so much to Bafta for this. We didn’t know what we were making when we first landed in Venice.

“We were in the edit and we watched it for the first time and I turned to Rob and said: ‘We’re either going to get cancelled or win a Bafta. I’m so glad it was the latter. A year or so on, we’re different people because of that show.”

New Beeb show

FILMING has begun on the new series of the BBC’s acclaimed comedy We Might Regret This.

By Lee Getty and Kyla Harris, the show focusses on Freya (Kyla Harris) and Abe’s (Darren Boyd) engagement and wedding planning. But their views on marriage day quickly hit a sticking point.

Oti: We ignore judges

OTI MABUSE has given away a Strictly secret that could infuriate the show’s judges – including sister Motsi.

The two-times Glitterball champion, who left the BBC One series in 2022, revealed the pro dancers ignore the judges’ comments, and tell their celebrity partners to do the same.

She says: “With the judges, I know a lot of the professionals say, ‘We’re listening, but we’re not taking it in’.

“The goal is not what the judges think, the goal is what the celebs think.”

Speaking on Mo Gilligan’s podcast, Oti added: “You really care about your partners and want to protect them, so I’m like ‘Look, [the judges] are going to have their opinion, I just need you to focus on our journey.”

Her next meeting with Motsi might be awkward . . .

Titanic’s a tonic for Noel

NOEL EDMONDS has a typically niche method of ensuring his New Zealand vineyard enjoys a winning harvest – blasting out music from the Titanic soundtrack.

And the veteran TV presenter enlists the help of head groundsman Jason, who is also a pianist.

Viewers of his Kiwi Adventure series, which continues tonight on ITV1, will see Noel towing Jason around the vineyard on a trailer while he’s tinkling the ivories, playing Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On.

Explaining his idea to workers at his River Haven estate, Noel said that in a study conducted half a century ago, “The rice field which had the music played in it, the yield increased between 25 and 60 per cent”.

But with the threat of frost on his crops, he added: “It’s a strange business to be involved in. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to make money.”

Handy if you fancy a tipple in the evenings, mind.

Kate’s Goggle shocks

KATE BOTTLEY starred in five series of Gogglebox, but the vicar says the experience was like “consensual exploitation”.

Kate left the Channel 4 show in 2016 after deciding it was taking too high a toll on her family life for too little financial reward.

She told the Walking The Dog podcast: “My kids spent two and a half years sitting in their bedrooms on nights they came to film. My kids didn’t have friends round, couldn’t have help with their homework.

“We got paid very little, but I cooked two nights a week for the crew. The money we got went on the electricity, the internet they were using and being hospitable to six people in my home two nights a week.

“It got to the point where we were overwhelmed by it.”

Former Premier League winner Mario Balotelli, 34, set to complete free transfer to 13th club after release by Genoa

MARIO BALOTELLI is poised to plunge his career to new depths – by playing for a THIRD DIVISION club in Spain.

The former Manchester City and Liverpool striker has won a Premier League title and 36 caps for Italy.

The Italian made just six appearances for Genoa after joining last October[/caption]

But Balotelli has endured a chequered career since leaving Anfield a decade ago, including spells with clubs in Turkey and Switzerland.

The 34-year-old joined Italians Genoa last October, but will be released after making just six appearances.

His agents have now opened talks with Real Murcia, who will remain in the Spanish third tier next season after losing in their promotion playoffs.

Murcia president Felipe Moreno met Balotelli’s advisors in Madrid recently, and went on to discuss the striker’s signature with sporting director Asier Goiria.

Moreno reportedly plans a fresh round of talks about a deal for Balotelli, who will be 35 next month.

Murcia have spent 18 seasons in La Liga, most recently in the 2007-08 campaign, and have won a record eight second-tier titles.

They play at the 31,000-capacity Estadio Nueva Condomina, and will be favourites for promotion next term.

The south-eastern club finished second in the Primera Federacion Group 2, but lost in the play-off semis to Gimnastic de Tarragona.

Balotelli’s madcap off-field antics have distracted from his undoubted playing ability throughout his career.

But if the frontman lands a deal and applies himself, he could yet help Murcia show no mercy to their opponents in the new season.

‘Outback killer’ to make ‘explosive’ deathbed declaration after murder of Brit Peter Falconio whose body was never found

THE notorious “Outback killer” is set to make an “explosive” final statement on his deathbed.

Bradley John Murdoch was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer in 2019, almost two decades after he murdered British backpacker Peter Falconio.

Peter, 28, and his girlfriend Joanne Lees before his brutal murder

Peter, 28, and girlfriend Joanne Lees were on a road trip through the Australian Outback in 2001 when they were flagged down by a man in a truck and attacked.

Murdoch shot Peter in the head before attacking Joanne and restraining her with cable ties in his car.

Joanne managed to escape and hide in nearby bushes for five hours, before waving down a passing truck for help.

Now, as Murdoch nears death, true crime author Robin Bowles, who sat down with the killer a few years ago, has revealed what she believes his final few words will be.

She told 7NEWS: “I know what they are, and they will be explosive.

“It’s a shame they weren’t able to be released earlier..”

While Murdoch has always maintained his innocence, Bowles said: “You can’t sue a dead man, so if he’s making the claims, and he’s died – the proverbial might hit the fan.”

This comes as cops have hiked their efforts to locate the tourist’s remains which have yet to be found.

Northern Territory police announced they would now offer $500,000 Australian dollars (£240,000) to anyone who comes forward with information that leads them to his body.

That’s double the initial $250,000 (£120,000) offering.

Acting Commander Mark Grieve said: “We recognise the passage of time that’s transpired, however it’s never too late to reach out and start that conversation with police.

“There’s still people out there who may hold some information.

“This has been a protracted and long investigation in regards to trying to find Peter’s remains and now is just the right time we feel to present this reward on offer.”

Who is Bradley John Murdoch?

Bradley John Murdoch was convicted of killing British backpacker Peter Falconio in 2001 and is serving a life sentence for the crime.

Police were never able to locate Falconio’s body.

Reports surfaced that bones were found near Alice Springs in February 2023, and that police were going to test them to see if they were a match for the murdered backpacker.

Northern Territory police were quick to dismiss the claims as incorrect.

Bradley was born on February 29, 1958, in Geraldton, Western Australia, to a mechanic and a hairdresser.

He lived in Northampton and then Perth – where he reportedly joined a biker gang after dropping out of school aged 15.

He was a drug smuggler who served 15 months for shooting at crowds celebrating at an Australian rules football match in 1995.

Eight years later, just before he was charged with Peter’s murder, he was charged with seven counts of abduction and rape, but later acquitted.

He has always protested his innocence in the murder case.

What happened to Bradley John Murdoch?

Sixteen months after the incident, Murdoch was arrested and charged with Peter’s murder thanks to Joanne’s identification combined with DNA evidence.

Murdoch pleaded not guilty to Peter’s murder and to assaulting and attempting to kidnap Joanne.

But he was unanimously convicted in 2005 and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Murdoch launched several failed appeals against his conviction.

Floyd Schofield out to make it up to his son for cancelling Disneyland trip after mysteriously pulling out of last fight

FLOYD SCHOFIELD is out to make it up to his little boy after cancelling a trip to Disneyland after the mysterious collapse of his last fight.

But the unbeaten American pulled out on the week of the bout – citing illness which left him hospitalised.

His dad and trainer even went as far as to sensationally claim his son had been POISONED – as he shared images of the boxer bed-bound.

Schofield later returned home to the US and had to break the news to his baby son that their celebratory trip to Disneyland had been KOd.

He said: “Actually, when I first got back from Saudi, I would say it was a little sad because I was a new dad, I couldn’t be around my son for like three months.

“I gave my son a promise, after I get the green belt, we’ll go to Disney, so I didn’t really get to fulfil that.

“So seeing him come back and I had nothing to show for it that like put me in a very bad depressed state.

“I wasn’t one to believe in depression really but actually going through it is a real thing.

“I’m just glad I have my dad, my fiancee, my son and they got me back to where I was supposed to be.”

Schofield, 22, now returns on Saturday against ex-featherweight champ Tevin Farmer, 34, on the Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr undercard.

And he plans to finally take his nine-month old son away after the fight – this time on a European getaway.

He said: “I wanna take them somewhere that other kids have not been able to go somewhere like Greece or somewhere that a nine month old don’t go, so something nice.”

Schofield was pulled out of his bout against Stevenson, 27, by the British Boxing Board of Control – who oversaw the event – after a health check.

His dad’s allegations of poisoning were never proven and Schofield never explained his mystery illness – and it looks as though he never will.

He said: “I just want to leave stuff in the past. Whatever happened, happened. I’m not trying to get into that.

“I’m just looking forward and if me and Shakur are going to run it in the future, so be it. But right now I’ve just got to look at Tevin Farmer.”

Schofield confirmed his health woes are past him – even managing to find light of the situation with sceptical fans online.

He said: “Yeah, I’m good. I have been trolling people in the comments. They’re like, ‘Hopefully he shows up.’ I’m like, ‘I might, I’ll think about it.'”

Lewis Hamilton gives lucky F1 rival a lift home on his private jet after finding out he was booked on EasyJet

LEWIS HAMILTON took rookie Franco Colapinto on his private jet following the Spanish Grand Prix, instead of flying EasyJet.

The seven-time world champion put a message in the F1 drivers’ WhatsApp group following the race in Barcelona offering a free flight.

The 40-year-old sold it for environmental reasons but still hires jets to some Grands Prix

22-year-old Argentinian Alpine driver Colapinto said he was headed to London – but with budget airline EasyJet.

So Hamilton told him to cancel his plans and hitch a ride onboard his swanky jet instead.

Colapinto said it was a “dream come true” given he has always been a huge admirer of the Ferrari driver and he had never been on a private jet.

Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, Colapinto said: “Yeah it was nice,

“Lewis is a great guy and I had the best flight of my life with him. It was very special and very unique.

“You all know that he was my idol since I was very young, with Senna as well, and to be able to fly with him and have a bit of a chat.

“He asked if anyone was flying to London and I said I’m going to London but on EasyJet.

“And he came back saying he had a lot of space on his plane and invited me to go.

“It was quite special. Also flying private for the first time, two very unique experiences and a lot of stories from Lewis. A very special flight.

“He’s a great guy and I was very, very impressed by how he is as a person and how he is as a professional.

“A lot to admire from the personal part from the sportsman. It was great, a dream come true and didn’t have to fly on my EasyJet flight.”

In 2013 Hamilton purchased a £25million luxury Bombadier Challenger 605 in a striking cherry red colour, shortly after leaving McLaren for Mercedes.

He sold it in 2019 so it is likely the jet that Colapinto travelled on was rented by Hamilton.

Hamilton sold the jet on as it did not make financial sense and it was also not in keeping with his views on sustainable living.
