Fastest-selling used cars UK: Driven and tested

Sadly, I haven’t driven all the cars on this list, but I have driven some – and here are my views.

Toyota Yaris

Model: Toyota Yaris

This cool, compact and convenient city car is a huge seller on Sun Motors.

It’s reliable, affordable and easy to drive, with the short wheelbase and compact design making it a doddle to potter about and park. It’s a WhatCar? favourite, too.

The biggest selling point is the fact it does a quite incredible 70 miles to the gallon.

The ride quality is good, too. It’s perfect for short journeys and city spins. It’s a compact can, and ‘larger individuals’ may struggle for space in the front (or get stuck in the back). 

The petrol-electric hybrid engine (like the one in this 2021 Yaris ICON) is no slouch and easily manages motorway cruising speeds. If you want better performance, go for a GR Sport model.

Ford Puma

Model: Ford Puma

We’re old enough to remember the iconic Steve McQueen advert for the original Puma.

This compact SUV-style car is more aggressive-looking and comes packed with more features. It’s a little less fun than the original, but it’s a perfect and practical family car.

Starting with the looks, the Ford Puma is more angular and aggressive than the original, but we like the big grill and rounded headlights.

The in-car experience is great, with lots of modern gadgets and gizmos like the large panel touchscreen, making it feel like you’ve invested well.

Despite some negative reviews, pre-2024 versions feel reassuringly well-made for a Ford, as well. 

Ford announced the petrol model Puma would be phased out in 2024. You can still get them, like this stunning red 2023 Ford Puma 5Dr ST-Line.

On the road, it’s confident and capable, as you’d expect. The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine isn’t hugely exciting, but it’s a family car, so sit back and enjoy the ride.

MINI

Model: MINI

Everyone knows the MINI is a cool car, and it continues to sell by the bucketload.

The styling is iconic and remains a favourite among all types of drivers.

There’s no one Mini, there’s a huge amount of variation, with the standard MINI coupe, convertible, Cooper and Clubman all having huge numbers of fans in the market. 

All minis sell well, because they’re a huge amount of fun to drive. Step (or slide) into a Mini and you instantly feel at home.

The driving position is comfortable, albeit quite low down. It’s ergonomically designed with every dial, switch, lever and pedal (thankfully) where you expect it to be. 

There are too many model variations to provide a review of any one particular engine configuration, but that’s not a problem because they’re all good. 

The enduring popularity of the MINI means prices hold up well. You’ll also find lots on the market (with over 2,500 MINIs for sale on Sun Motors today), so be sure to shop around.

What do I need to apply for car finance?

To apply for car finance, you’ll need to have information about yourself, including your date of birth, address and income. Our finance provider will do a soft check to get an understanding of what you could borrow. 

When you find a car and agree on a price, you’ll need to submit a full finance application. At this stage, the lender will require additional information, including identification and proof of income. (They may ask for additional information, especially if you’re self-employed.)

Check out old MOTs and look for faults that may not have been fixed. 

If you’re buying a high-mileage car, ask how the miles were done. Long motorway trips will put less pressure on the car than lots of short city centre stop-start drives.

A SAVVY maths professor has shared the easy way to get your car cool in seconds for the school run.

Hannah Fry, from the UK, took to social media to give us all a lesson in fluid dynamics.

Cars can become super hot in the summer, and it often takes a while for the AC to kick in and cool it down.

But Hannah shared the simple trick to get it cool in seconds.

She said: “You know that thing when you get into your car in the summer and it’s absolutely boiling hot?

“There’s actually a flow dynamics trick that you can use to quickly cool your car down. That’s what my PhD’s in, flow dynamics.”

Instead of putting the air conditioning on, she rolled down the window behind the driver’s seat and stepped out of the car.

Then, using the passenger side door, she would stand and open and shut it quickly for a few seconds.

Hannah did this a few times before getting back in the car as she was getting embarrassed.

“The reason why it works is that when you open and close the door, especially if you do it quickly, the door, as it’s moving outwards, it sweeps out all of the air that’s in its way, creating this sort of area of low pressure that you get here,” she explained.

“Then that sets up something called bulk flow, which is where all of the hot, sweaty, horrible air inside the car is drawn outwards. And the only way to refill it is with nice, fresh, easy air from over that side.

“It takes about two or three goes and suddenly it’s absolutely beautifully temperate.”

The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @fryrsquared with over 1.9 million views and 150k likes.

The clever hack comes just in time for summer and people were grateful for the advice.

One person wrote: “Never be embarrassed about fluid dynamics, babe.”

Another commented: “you lowkey deserve to be nominated for the Nobel Prize.”

“I’ve done this always with zero understanding of fluid dynamics…Am I a genius?” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “My dad used to tell me off for doing this as a kid, can’t wait to show him I was actually just a child genius.”

“This is genius!” claimed a fifth

Someone else added: “This is the coolest thing I’ve learned in a while! Thank you!”

A FAMOUS TikToker who went missing was tragically found dead with her body dismembered.

Teen influencer Fabiola Alejandra Caicedo Piña’s remains were found cut up into pieces and put in bags near a water treatment plant in Lima, Peru.

Cops were able to identify the TikToker by her distinctive tattoos, including the phrase “Love me for who I am” in English on her arm.

They say she may have been strangled before being dismembered.

They suspect it could be an act of revenge by the family or the close circle of her ex-boyfriend, who died in 2022 in unclear circumstances.

Fabiola – originally from Barquisimeto, Venezuela – left her country in 2022, when she was 16.

She was accompanied by her then-boyfriend, Mayner Yoffrey Giménez Castrillo, who is 21 years older than her.

Once in Lima, they lived together in a rental flat in the Huaycán district, where Mayner was found dead just months later.

His death was ruled a suicide, but his family never believed he took his own life. They accused Fabiola of killing him.

Despite this, she was never formally investigated and continued her life in Lima, working at nightclubs and bars.

Local media reports claim a Venezuelan mafia gang even threatened to make her “pay” for Mayner’s death.

The airline will start new routes and introduce new holiday package from Manchester Airport on April 3, 2026 and are already bookable online.

The brand-new flying programme means two weekly services on Monday and Friday.

The second route is exclusive with no other airline flying from London Stansted to La Palma.

 Jet2 will begin two weekly services with flights taking off on Mondays and Fridays which will begin on October 26, 2026.

CEO Steve Heapy said: “We are delighted to be expanding our presence across the Canary Islands from London Stansted and Manchester Airports by adding this brand-new gateway to our portfolio, appealing to holidaymakers looking to explore the island’s natural beauty.

He added: “After experiencing consistent demand from holidaymakers wanting to escape to the Canary Islands throughout the year, we are confident that these new flights and holidays will prove popular with customers.

“We are already looking forward to taking customers to La Palma for the first time on their well-deserved holidays from April 2026 and beyond.”

Jet2 now flies to five destinations across the Canary Islands, from 2026.

Prior to the 2021 volcanic eruption on La Palma, the island received around 250,000 visitors per year.

The numbers of holiday makers significantly decreased after that, but have slowly been rising.

In 2024, La Palma recorded 120,000 visitors to the island – a fraction of the seven million visiting Tenerife.

La Palma has dramatic cliffs, forests and beautiful beaches, which is why it is becoming popular with Brits.

The average temperature in La Palma, Canary Islands, typically ranges from 16C to 27C throughout the year making it a popular winter sun spot.

On the lesser-known place on island is the Caldera de Taburiente a volcanic crater almost five miles wide, created by an eruption three million years ago.

Santa Cruz de la Palma is the capital and port with cobbled streets, lined with 15th-century buildings with flower-filled balconies.

You can also do stargazing and visit the beaches which are not golden, but have volcanic black sands instead.

Bajamar is a long and wide beach in the capital, while Los Cancajos has calm waters and is a popular spot for families.
