Coronation Street in another major schedule shakeup this week as sport wreaks havoc for ITV soap

CORONATION Street has announced another major schedule shakeup as the sport continues to wreak havoc on the schedule.

The long-running ITV soap has suffered episode changes due to sporting fixtures, which leave fans furious.

Friday’s planned visit to the cobbles has been ditched[/caption]

Just last week, Friday’s episode to the Weatherfield cobbles was ditched for coverage of the Six Nations Championship.

As a result, fans only saw two out of three episodes.

And in a further shakeup, Friday’s episode has been axed again as ITV dedicate almost three hours of their schedule to the FA Cup.

The action will kick off from 7:30pm, just after Emmerdale.

Coronation Street will now broadcast on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

It’s unclear how soap bosses will make up for last Friday’s episode that was culled.

Fans have watched as a horrific inferno ripped through the Platt household, with it currently unclear who has made it out alive.

The blaze came after David Platt stole money from the notorious gangster Harvey Gaskell.

Harvey’s thugs were out for David after taking money which belonged to him – putting his whole family in danger.

Recent episodes have seen Lily given a threatening note and Shona get kidnapped.

Coronation Street is available on ITVX.

Coronation Street's 2024 shock exits

Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.

Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.

Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.

Show stalwart Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.

Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

Arsenal vs Man City needle and aggro is just what the Premier League needs… mutual respect is a crushing bore

THIS is what the public wants.

Grudge matches, aggro, needle, spite, petty vendettas and schoolboy antics.

Erling Haaland and Gabriel in conversation during a Premier League match.

The fighting spirit between the likes of Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira had fans lapping it up[/caption]

The idea of not just beating the other lot but absolutely rubbing their noses in it.

Watch a top Premier League match as a neutral and, while you might admire world-class talent or wonderful goals, what really seizes your attention is s**thousing, showboating, hatred, ridicule and utter disrespect.

Sunday at the Emirates — Gabriel v Erling Haaland, Myles Lewis-Skelly v Haaland, everyone v Haaland — was a throwback to Keane-Vieira and Fergie-Wenger.

The peak of the United-Arsenal enmity. Arsenal versus Manchester City, satisfying the bloodlust of the masses in peacetime.

The dislike was clear and obvious, Arsenal’s desire for revenge — after an explosive end to their 2-2 draw at the Etihad in September — was palpable.

Sure, it was mainly playground stuff — Gabriel screaming in Haaland’s face after Arsenal’s opener, Lewis-Skelly copying the Norwegian’s goal celebration, everyone calling Haaland a “c*”.

It was trivial, foul-mouthed pantomime.

But it was a hell of a lot of fun.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

Gabriel went early against Haaland and might have ended up looking foolish.

And there may be future recriminations for Lewis-Skelly — an inexperienced rookie refusing to “stay humble” and giving it to an established great.

But one thing is for certain, the viewers lapped it up.

For several years now, the English top-flight has become too nicey-nicey. Even high-stakes title showdowns have come with too much tiresome mutual respect.

There is a time and place for mutual respect — and that is  post-retirement.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger gush about each other in their pipe and slippers and it is heart-warming.

And Gabriel Clarke’s “Keane & Vieira: Best of Enemies” was  one of the finest TV sporting documentaries, as two great warhorses relived the Premier League’s most engrossing on-field rivalry with a grudging sense of affection after both had hung up their knuckle-dusters.

But mutual respect in the here and now is a crushing bore.

The entire nation stopped to watch Fergie’s United against Wenger’s Arsenal — not just because they were the best teams in the country but because they genuinely loathed one another.

Tunnel rucks, pizza- slinging, on-field brawls and  Martin Keown’s scary-monster taunting of Ruud van Nistelrooy. Were you not entertained?

Great managerial feuds — such as Fergie v Wenger, Wenger v Mourinho and Mourinho v Benitez — are a thing of the past.

Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta — former  colleagues and still, to some extent, friends  — have not engaged with any of it.

But that doesn’t matter.

Press conference barbs and managerial mind games are just words. On-field antipathy offers true theatre.

Haaland pointed out to rival Gabriel that he’s ‘never won this’ as he pointed at the Premier League logo[/caption]

Sunday wasn’t perfect. In terms of enmity, as well as the 5-1 scoreline, it was too  one-sided — more hounds-against-fox blood sport than a heavyweight boxing slugfest.

Haaland is from streetfighting stock — his father Alfie’s age-old feud with Keane is  legendary and Haaland senior had a post-match online jibe at Arsenal while his son pointed to the champions badge on his City shirt after the final whistle.

But Haaland aside, City looked like the victims of a mugging. They didn’t expect it and they didn’t truly get it.

While they were being humiliated by Arsenal’s players and supporters, City didn’t collect a single yellow card.

Even during an era of four straight titles, and six in seven seasons, of financial envy and of  Premier League charges claiming 130 breaches of PSR rules, City’s players aren’t used to being truly disliked by fired-up rivals.

Guardiola doesn’t welcome it because the levels of desire Arsenal showed can skew a game of football, adding a chaos factor which can negate his status as football’s greatest thinker.

When the clubs next meet, should the lawyers allow it, it will be intriguing to see whether City engage or attempt to rise above the needle.

The atmosphere at the Emirates has improved since Arteta lifted Arsenal into title contention.

But it has rarely been the bearpit of Sunday — with the beastly Haaland baited relentlessly.

It was like those legendary visits by Wenger’s Arsenal to face Tony Pulis’ Stoke at the Britannia — always  red-letter dates for fight fans.
Between 2008 and 2014, Arsenal visited eight times, losing five and winning only once.

The clash of styles and oceans of bile made those extraordinary occasions — with Arsenal usually beaten up and mocked mercilessly by a team Wenger accused of “rugby tactics”.

Chelsea versus Spurs became a genuine grudge match — among players not just rival supporters — climaxing in the 2016 Battle of Stamford Bridge when the Blues clinched the title for Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester in a 2-2 draw dripping with malevolence.

Such occasions are increasingly rare. Managers are more respectful and players more polite, while rules and refereeing approaches have — rightly or wrongly — softened the game.

But for global audiences, Sunday at the Emirates  was a reminder that spite and menace can provide entertainment and fun.

Surely, we need more of this. So who is joining me in urging the FA to start up a Disrespect campaign?

Arsenal player ratings vs Man City

ARSENAL stunned Man City 5-1 at the Emirates on Sunday evening.

It was an incredible result against their rivals of recent years.

Here, we take a look at how the Gunners rated…

David Raya – 7/10
Had very little to do in the first half but made a brilliant save in the 22nd minute to deny a goalbound header from Josko Gvardiol. Made another stunning save two minutes from the half-time interval, stopping a deflected Savinho shot from close range. Powerless to stop Erling Haaland’s 55th-minute header from briefly levelling the scores.

Jurrien Timber – 6
Didn’t offer his usual attacking threat going forward but was solid defensively. Picked up a pointless yellow breaking up a harmless counter-attack in the 24th minute. Almost scored late in the second half.

William Saliba – 5
Didn’t have much to do in the first half but won all his aerial battles in the first 45 minutes. Marshalled the defence well early in the second period but was embarrassingly outjumped and outmuscled by Haaland for City’s equaliser – a major flaw of his that continues to be exposed.

Gabriel Magalhaes – 6
Like his defensive partner, he was seldom called into action in the first half. Dominant in the air in his battles with Haaland, who he trolled after Odegaard’s goal.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 8
Continues to endear himself to the Emirates faithful with composure and tenacity beyond his years as he brilliantly floated between left back and midfield. Put real daylight between the two sides with a thumping finish just after the hour mark. This young lad is a real bright prospect for both the Gunners and England.
His trolling of Haaland by copying the Norwegian’s ‘Lotus’ celebration went down a storm with fans.

Thomas Partey – 7
Steady in the heart of midfield and broke up play well when required. Fired the Gunners back into the lead in the 57th minute with a deflected shot from outside the box.

Martin Odegaard – 7
Was in the right place at the right time to benefit from the aftermath of an uncharacteristic Manuel Akanji error and break the deadlock. Was at the heart of everything good the north Londoners did going forward.

Declan Rice – 6
Combative, as always, in the middle of the park and played a role in the home side taking the lead, teeing up Havertz who squared the ball to Odegaard.

Leandro Trossard – 6
Was particularly lively on the left in the first half, giving Matheus Nunes a real run for his money. His end product, however, wasn’t the best.

Gabriel Martinelli – 6
Lively on the right wing in the early goings. Found the back of the net in the fifth minute after some beautiful play from Odegaard but was needlessly offside. Forced a good save out of Ortega with a rasping effort in the 68th minute.

Kai Havertz – 6
Lively early doors, testing Stefan Ortega with a tame shot in the first minute. Teed up Odegaard for a tap in a few moments later. Missed a golden opportunity to double the lead in the 25th minute, dragging the ball wide with the goal at his absolute mercy. Made amends for his howler by finishing an even harder chance in the 76th minute. He well and truly needed that as he looked absolutely devoid of confidence.

SUBS

Ethan Nwaneri – 83 (on for Trossard) – 7
Put the cherry on top of the cake with an outrageous effort in second-half stoppage time.

Mikel Merino – 83 (on for Odegaard) – 5

Raheem Sterling – 89 (on for Kai Havertz ) – N/A

Riccardo Calafiori 89 (on for Lewis-Skelly) – N/A

Go for Myles

ENGLAND have been struggling to find a decent left-back in recent years.

So, even though he’s just 18, played only ten Premier League matches and never won an Under-21 cap, Myles Lewis-Skelly (right) should be in  when Thomas Tuchel names his first starting line-up against Albania next month.

Wood’s Goal-D

CHRIS WOOD’S hat-trick in the 7-0 rout of Brighton takes the 33-year-old journeyman to 17 Premier League goals this season — and propels the Nottingham Forest striker  into Golden Boot contention.

Look back over the 33-year history of the competition and the list of each season’s leading scorers is largely a who’s who of its greatest strikers.

The most surprising previous winners — none of them all that surprising — include Jamie Vardy, Son Heung-min, Dion Dublin and Kevin Phillips.

So if Wood pips Mo Salah (21) and Erling Haaland (19) to take the prize, the Kiwi would be the unlikeliest of the lot.

Ready Eddie?

IT’S ludicrous this week’s Carabao Cup semi-final second legs are a month after the initial matches — due to the ever-sprawling nature of Uefa club competitions.

But the flipside is the Newcastle-Arsenal tie — which appeared a dead rubber after Eddie Howe’s team won 2-0 — now looks very much ‘game on’ after they lost twice at home and Arsenal demolished Manchester City.

Tomorrow could be squeaky bum time on the Tyne.

Dunk and dive

MUCH mirth and mockery of Lewis Dunk after the Brighton man netted his seventh Premier League own goal — only Richard Dunne has scored more.

Yet own goals are usually worthy attempts to stop certain goals.
Dunk, like Dunne, is an old-school, body-on-the-line defender, willing to take one for the team

Amorim’s Messiah complex

THE concept of Ruben Amorim being Manchester United’s last great hope is a compelling one, embraced by most fans

But it has given the Portuguese a messiah complex, thinking he’s a genius who sees things mortals can’t imagine . . . Kobbie Mainoo at centre-forward in a 2-0 home loss to Palace.

Traffic at standstill after THREE crashes on busy Irish motorways as drivers warned ‘use another route’ amid bus delays

MOTORISTS are being warned to slow down this morning as severe delays caused by three separate collisions cause chaos.

There have been three crashes this morning on two major Irish motorways, causing severe delays for drivers.

Traffic bosses have urged road users to “consider a different route” after two multi-vehicle collisions and a single car crash.

A crash on the M4/N4 westbound has caused significant delays for commuters.

The single car collision occurred between Junction 5 Leixlip and Junction 6 Celbridge.

TII warned: “Delays to your journey will occur. Consider a different journey route or start time.

“When approaching the collision location, drive with caution, reduce your speed and obey instructions from emergency services.”

A separate incident has seen another Kildare crash, this time a multi-vehicle collision.

The incident occurred on the M7/N7 westbound, impacting lane one between Junction 8 Johnstown and Junction 9 Naas.

A third collision is also causing delays after a multi-car crash occurred on another main motorway.

The M11/N11 Northbound is experiencing delays between Junction 25 Enniscorthy and Junction 24 Ferns.

There is also reports of congestion impacting Dublin’s M50, with both northbound and southbound routes seeing heavy flows of traffic.

TRANSPORT CANCELLATIONS

Meanwhile, Bus Eireann has issued a number of cancellations and disruptions for commuters.

Due to operational issues the 7.30am 226X from Kinsale to MTU has been cancelled.

There are a number of diversions in place for routes 214 and 216 which can all be found here.

The 323X from Birr to Limerick at 7am is currently operating 20 minutes behind schedule.

Route 115 from at 7.50am from Enfield to Dublin has been cancelled this morning.

The 109X at 7.15am from Dublin to Cavan has also been cancelled, as has the 7.50am 105 service from Connolly Hospital to Ashbourne.

The D4/D5 is operating at a reduced frequency.

Over at Irish Rail, the 5.40am Sligo to Connolly Station service is operating 11 minutes late due to a mechanical issue.

I’ve lost seven STONE and this is my ‘magic’ go-to easy filling snack – you can make it in the air fryer too

A WOMAN who has lost more than seven stone in weight has shared her “magic” go-to snack.

Terri Lowe is also known as the ‘Air Fryer Queen’, and for good reason, as almost all of her recipes can be made in the device.

The eggy, cheese recipe can be cooked in just eight minutes in the air fryer[/caption]

And in a recent video on her TikTok page, Terri – who has lost a whopping 100lbs (7 stone 1lb) – revealed her new “obsession”.

She began with two dishes, into which she put two eggs each, before whisking them up with a fork and ensuring they’re fully mixed up.

“Okay, here’s where the magic happens,” she said.

“If you like onion, you’re gonna add some onion. I love onion.

“And then we’re gonna add some cheese.”

She then added in some cheese to the mix – using a spicy grated cheese herself but pointing out you can use “whatever cheese you want”.

“Each of these have about 15 to 20 grams of protein because of the cheese and the egg,” Terri explained.

Once she’d added the cheese, she put both the dishes into the air fryer, and cooked for 8 minutes at 180C.

Taking them out, Terri admitted she “couldn’t wait to eat this”, as she showed how they’d been transformed into an eggy, cheesy treat that can be enjoyed in the morning or as a quick snack.

“Eggs in the air fryer – so easy, so delicious!” she added in the caption.

“High-protein, low effort, and ready in under 15 minutes.”

And people in the comments section were quick to praise Terri for sharing the recipe.

“Making this right now! Your videos have really inspired me,” one wrote.

“Trying! I’m going to mix some cottage cheese in there too for even more protein and some bacon bits!” another said.

“Looks GREAT!” a third gushed.

While others were more impressed with the fact Terri had put her ceramic bowls straight into the air fryer.

Rise of the air fryer

Air fryers have maintained their spot the most popular kitchen gadget in the UK last year.

Annual sales figures from Lakeland show sales of air fryers were up 1,175% on last year – when they were already soaring in popularity – as households continue their efforts to save energy on standard ovens.

The retailer said: “In previous years, their popularity could be attributed to consumers seeking healthier cooking options and fast cooking times.

“However, with the cost-of-living crisis continuing, air fryers have a renewed appeal as an efficient alternative to oven cooking.”

The only other products that “shaped the year” were heated airers – with sales up 51% – and heated textiles, such as heated throws and ponchos, Lakeland said, again as households brought in gadgets as an alternative to expensive dryers and central and electric heaters.

“No idea that you could put those dishes in there!” one admitted.

“I’ve got the same dishes.”

“I am the only one who didn’t know you could Put dishes in the air fryer?” another asked.

“I didn’t even know that I could put bowls in the air fryer!” a third said.

To which Terri replied: “Me either!! Just found out!”

Evan Ferguson’s loan move to West Ham is welcome boost for Heimir Hallgrimsson – but Ireland no longer reliant on him

FERGIE time.

In an era in which we are all concerned with sustainability — or at least should be — the above headline is a fine example of recycling.

For years, it referred to Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United team and their knack for scoring late goals.

Now, it has been reconstituted to track the career of his namesake Evan, whose first name is also much-appreciated by sub-editors.

And now is the time for the 20-year-old to seize the opportunity afforded to him by a move to West Ham until the end of the season.

It was as far back as November that reports suggested the Ireland international would leave Brighton in this transfer window, most likely on loan.

It made sense given his lack of game-time for the Seagulls since an ankle operation towards the end of last season, with Fabian Hurzeler appointed as their new head coach in the meantime.

Fellow frontmen Danny Welbeck, Georginio Rutter and Joao Pedro all have at least three times the 390 minutes Ferguson has managed in the English top flight in 2024-25.

Hurzeler initially insisted there was no foundation to the reports but slowly but surely changed his tune to the point where it was not a question of whether he would leave but one of where to.

West Ham looks like a solid choice, with two of their three senior strikers sidelined. Michail Antonio may never play again because of his car crash. His campaign is certainly over.

Niclas Fullkrug is expected to be out for at least another two months with a hamstring injury.

The last rival standing is Danny Ings who, like Ferguson, has one Prem goal to his name this term.

As a result, attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been asked to lead the line. Jarrod Bowen has done so too, including on his return from injury last night when he scored.

But his preferred position is out wide so there is a clearer path to regular football at the Hammers than at most Premier League clubs.

If the Meath native can flourish under Graham Potter, the gaffer who gave him his first taste of men’s football in England, then we can all breathe a little more easily and reassure ourselves that the past year was nothing more than growing pains.

But, with Brighton signing 19-year-old Stefanos Tzimas from PAOK for £22.9million after he impressed on loan stint at FC Nurnberg, it also indicates Ferguson may well need to consider a more permanent move away from England’s south coast.

The signing of the Greek teenager serves as another reminder of just how ruthless life is in the English Premier League.

And the fact that Ferguson has been loaned out rather than sold may be simply because Brighton reckon a solid second half to the season could help his market value recover some of the ground it has lost over the past 12 months.

HOPE OF THE NATION

Never mind that the entire Irish nation has dumped its hopes on Ferguson’s broad shoulders, it appears as though Brighton have already diverted their gaze to another bright young thing.

Ferguson’s task in the 14 Premier League matches remaining for West Ham may be as much to impress potential suitors rather than to try to persuade his parent club that he has a part to play in their future.

And it will not be just those at Bohemians — because of the 12.5 percent sell-on clause agreed four years ago — who will be following his fortunes closely but those who believe that World Cup qualification is a realistic possibility.

Because, despite his difficulties at club level, Ferguson remains a key player for Heimir Hallgrimsson.

He featured in all six of Ireland’s matches since the Icelander took over, starting the last four, meaning he has almost as many minutes in international football this year as he does in the Premier League.

He scored against Finland and could feel hard done by not having been awarded a penalty away to both Greece and England, a memory-prompt for the trouble he can cause defenders.

Ireland are not wholly reliant on him as they might have been in a previous era. In 2018, Aiden O’Brien — now 31 and playing for Woking in the National League after a spell with Shelbourne — started three games for Ireland up front.

He did score, in a friendly against Poland, but the forward options available to Hallgrimsson are not comparable to the tail end of the reign of Martin O’Neill, much of which had been spent lamenting the fact Robbie Keane was not any younger.

The Under-21s did not offer much hope for the future either. Reece Grego-Cox, Joe Quigley, Ronan Hale and Ryan Manning were the strikers named in the first squad of the year.

The first two play in the National League, Hale — now with Ross County — has switched to Northern Ireland and Manning has made progress, but as a full-back.

That forced people to look further down the conveyor belt to see what might be coming down the track.

Troy Parrott, Adam Idah, Aaron Connolly, Michael Obafemi, Glen McAuley and Ryan Cassidy were the ones creating the most amount of excitement.

McAuley was at Liverpool while Cassidy came through at Watford. Neither man has played professional football for a number of years. Connolly is still trying to reclaim some of the ground he has lost since breaking through at Brighton, joining Millwall from Sunderland this month in search of regular football.

Obafemi spent the second half of last season at The New Den, on loan from Burnley, and is spending this season with Plymouth on loan again.

The Pilgrims are rooted to the bottom of the Championship and he has started just a third of their 30 league games, scoring twice, so it is hardly going as well as he would’ve hoped.

PRIME EXAMPLES

But Idah and Parrott are prime examples of how a stalling of a career does not have to turn into a nosedive.

Idah’s hat-trick for Norwich City in the FA Cup against Preston North End at the age of 18 set the bar ridiculously high.

He has not been a prolific striker, and may never be, and that might explain why he is not a guaranteed starter for Celtic.

But his two goals — and the quality of his finishing — against Aston Villa in the Champions League should address some of the snootiness about his exploits in Scotland, including a cup final winner last season. He hit the target again on Sunday against Motherwell.

Admittedly, it might be a bit tougher against Bayern Munich in the play-off round but what a stage for the Cork man to test himself.

Similarly, there can be a tendency for some to diminish Parrott’s record in the Eredivisie but Uefa rank it as the sixth-best top flight and the Europa League is providing the Dubliner with some sterner tests.

Already, he has scored against Roma, Ferencvaros and Elfsborg, and played against old club Spurs, Athletic Bilbao, Fenerbahce — managed by Jose Mourinho who gave him his Tottenham debut — and Galatasaray.

They will face Gala — with whom they drew 1-1 at home — again over two legs this month. And Parrott’s uninspiring loan moves at lower-division clubs are now a distant memory with 14 goals already to his name this season.

Parrott turns 23 today, Idah 24 a week later. Ferguson is only 20 and primed to reinforce why he had jumped ahead of those older than him in the pecking order.

It is Fergie time again.
