Tricky 1% Club question forces 13 contestants to use their pass to stay in the game – but would you have got it right?

A TRICKY The 1% Club question stumped 13 players who used their pass to stay in the game – but would you have got it right?

Lee Mack presents the smash-hit ITV quiz, which tests contestants’ logic and common sense.

Quiz question: Which is the odd one out: dapple, slime, spear, rabbit?

Lee revealed how many people had been flummoxed[/caption]

One question left 13 people perplexed, prompting them to use their pass to stay in the game.

All 100 players start with £1,000, but should they pass on a question, it goes into the prize pot.

Each person can only do this once – so it’s important to pick the right moment.

Lee asked for the 45% question: “Which is the odd one out? A) Dapple, B) Slime, C) Spear or D) Rabbit.

Contestants only had 30 seconds to identify the correct answer and lock it in.

Once time was up, the comedian revealed: “We’ve only lost three of you, but there was 13 passes on that one.”

The right answer was: D) Rabbit, as, “Rabbit is the only word when you take away the first letter it does not spell out the name of a fruit.”

“Dapple” becomes Apple, “Slime” becomes Lime and “Spear” becomes Pear.

It’s not the first time that contestants were caught out on a tough question.

A previous episode saw host Lee left shocked as a record-number of players used their pass.

A whopping 46 players were left baffled on a tricky word question and opted to utilise their pass on the show.

As well as the 46 people who opted to pass to the next question, a further seven got it wrong meaning that more than half of the show’s contestants failed to arrive at a correct answer.

The question that caught them out, read: “Which of these words can have two of its letters swapped over and still result in a valid word?”

The players were then given three multiple choice answers to choose from – Conversation, Dialogue and Chat.

Hardest Quiz Show Questions

Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions

  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
  • The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
  • The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.

Lee went on to reveal the answer as Conversation.

The V and S could be swapped with one another in order to create the word – Conservation.

Addressing the astonishing number of passes, Lee said to the players: “Now, you’ve just broken a record you lot, because, between you, you have just used 46 passes!”

The 1% Club airs on ITV1 and ITVX.

Joey O’Brien unsure if he will be in charge of Shelbourne for Champions League after replacing ‘true friend’ Damien Duff

JOEY O’BRIEN is not sure if he will lead Shelbourne out for their Champions League qualifier against Linfield.

But he is preparing as if he will be in charge.

Shelbourne interim head coach Joey O'Brien reacts to a missed scoring opportunity.

Thomas Flinkow/Sportsfile

The former Ireland international took over as Reds interim chief last weekend after Damien Duff’s shock Tolka Park exit.

O’Brien has overseen two draws since against Waterford and Galway United — with the latter coming on Friday at Eamonn Deacy Park as Mipo Odubeko’s opener was cancelled out late on in a 1-1 draw.

And with the Champions League tie against Linfield just over a week away, O’Brien is playing things by ear.

But he is acting as if he will be in charge as he travelled to watch the Irish League champions take on Haverfordwest County in a friendly yesterday.

O’Brien said: “It was so quick.

“It was just about taking the two games and then everyone will decide. The club will decide what they want to do.

“I suppose that will probably happen over the next few days.

“I never really thought about the manager job when I was working with the manager.

“What he created is unbelievable. I know we are off the pace but the standard of player here is very high.

“People look at results and think, ‘They’re miles off it’. But if you watched our games, so many games are like Friday.

“We dominated but haven’t got the wins you would most of the time.

“I’m heading to Linfield this weekend but that was planned.

“It’s a massive opportunity for the football club.

“I don’t know what the club will ask me or if they will ask me. I haven’t thought like that.

“It was a bit like taking the team on Monday, I wasn’t really asked, it just happened.

“Look at the draw we got. I am sure Linfield are saying the same. It’s a great draw for them.

“They probably fancy their chances as much as we fancy our chances.

“It’s going to be a tough game.”

‘TRUE FRIEND’

Shels host the Blues in the first leg of their Champions League tie on July 9 before the second leg is held in Belfast a week later.

But despite a hectic week, O’Brien was clear on what is important to him. And he still puts value on his friendship with Duff.

Caretaker O’Brien said: “My relationship with the manager is concrete from the point of view of what he has done for me and what I have learned.

“On a personal level, he is a true friend.

“There are not many friends that I have, to be honest, especially not through football.

“He is a forever friend. I spoke to him but they are ultimately private conversations.

“I still love him. That’s all that matters really.

“We’re similar in ways. There’s only a handful of people I still speak to in football from all the time I spent over in England.

“It’s hard because you sometimes don’t really get that close to others in the business, especially as a player because dressing rooms change and people move on.

“We got really close over the last 3½ years.

“When you’re in it, it’s the only thing that matters but there are bigger things in life.

“That’s ultimately it. It’s a game of ball.

“It’s about going out to enjoy yourself and to express yourself.”

Israel slams BBC for airing ‘death to IDF’ chant during Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury set – as calls grow to arrest singer

ISRAEL has blasted the BBC and Glastonbury for failing to cut off double-act Bob Vylan’s “death to the IDF” chants during a live broadcast the festival.

The singer from the pro-Palestine punk act, who keeps his identity secret, also shouted “from the river to the sea Palestine… will be free” – regarded by Jews as a call for Israel’s elimination.

The BBC has been criticised for not cutting the live broadcast[/caption]

IDF stands for Israel Defence Forces, the national military of the State of Israel, which is currently involved with the war in the Palestinian territory the Gaza Strip.

Bob Vylan – which consists of singer Bobby Vylan and guitarist Bobbie Vylan – then shared a post on X of the former eating an ice-cream with the caption: “While Zionists are crying on socials, I’ve just had a late night (vegan) ice cream.”

The BBC later took down the broadcast on the iPlayer but has been criticised for not cutting it off immediately after the anti-Semitic chanting, with the live feed continuing for another 40 minutes.

Avon and Somerset Police last night said they were examining video evidence and investigating if any offence had been committed.

Sharren Haskel, Israel’s deputy foreign minister, was among those to slam the performance.

She told The Mail on Sunday: “I condemn the BBC for continuing to live-stream anti-Israel hate speech from Glastonbury.

“What do you think the BBC would have done had a performer been shouting anti-Muslim or far-Right hate speech? They would have pulled the feed.

“But because the target is Israel – let’s be honest, because it’s Jews – it’s tolerated, even broadcast. This is clearly incitement.”

May Golan, Israel’s minister for social equality, said: “Perhaps someone should tell that anti-Semitic band what happened to the hundreds of innocent people at Israel’s Nova music festival who were murdered, raped, butchered, and kidnapped by savage monsters.”

Lord Ian Austin, the Government’s trade envoy to Israel, said: “The police should investigate as a matter of urgency and, if necessary, arrest the band members.”

The Bob Vylan set came immediately before controversial group Kneecap, which the Beeb had refused to show live.

Singer Liam Og O hAnnaidh was charged under the Terrorism Act last month after allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist group Hezbollah while saying “up Hamas, up Hezbollah” during a gig in Kentish Town, north London, in November.

The band’s X account posted a photo of member JJ O Dochartaigh in a t-shirt with the words “We Are All Palestine Action” an hour before they took to the stage.

The British government is considering making membership of the anti-Israel activist group illegal.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has the power to proscribe any such group under the Terrorism Act of 2000 if she believes it is “concerned in terrorism”.

Kneecap – whose set is still available to stream – also chanted about Palestine, as well as making derogatory statements about PM Sir Keir Starmer, who last week said they should not be allowed to perform at the festival.

Commenting on the chants about the IDF, a BBC spokesperson says: “Some of the comments made during Bob Vylan’s set were deeply offensive.

“During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language,” the response continues.

“We have no plans to make the performance available on demand.”

Bob Vylan, who formed eight years ago in London, refuse to reveal their real names because of what they call the “surveillance state”.

Addressing the crowd of around 30,000, Bobby said he had to be “careful” because their performance was “live on the BBC”.

He then, however, led the “free, free Palestine” chant, then changing it to “death, death to the IDF”.

“Hell, yeah, from the river to the sea Palestine must, will be, Inshallah, it will be free,” he added.

The singer also backed Kneecap by describing music executives who called for the group to be banned as “Zionists”.

He went on to use the highly offensive c-word.

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch branded the comments “grotesque”, adding: “Glorifying violence against Jews isn’t edgy.

“The cultural establishment needs to wake up to the fact this isn’t protest, it’s incitement.”

Danny Cohen, former director of BBC Television, said: “That something like this might happen could easily have been foreseen by the BBC and measures could have been taken to prevent its broadcast.

“This is a very serious failure, and further evidence that BBC management are blind to their responsibility to Britain’s Jewish community.”

Kneecap member Naoise Ó Caireallain called on the crowd to “riot” outside Westminster magistrates in August when bandmate O hAnnaidh’s case returns to court.

Kneecap started their performance by chanting “f*** Keir Starmer”.

They also spoke out in support of Palestine Action.

Glastonbury had said while all are welcome at the festival but added it “does not condone hate speech or incitement to violence of any kind from its performers”.

Avon and Somerset Police posted on X: “We are aware of the comments made by acts on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon.

“Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation.”

The cash-savvy shopper regularly shares easy and affordable recipe ideas on her page – and this time, showed her 10k fans how to make veg and egg fried rice on the cheap.

Ingredients

For this, she explained in a recent video, you will need a bag of white rice from Aldi’s Essentials range, 52p, a six-pack of eggs for £1.45 and 500g of fresh carrots for 40p.

Whilst shopping, the Aldi customer also snapped up a pack of three bell peppers for £1.69 and spring onions for just 69p.

The total breakdown of the budget-friendly dish was 16p for the rice, 97p for four eggs, 10p for two carrots, 56p for one bell pepper, as well as 20p for three spring onions.

This comes to a total cost of £1.99 – or just 50p per head if you’re feeding a family of four.

Method

Once you have all the necessary ingredients, start by boiling 300g of rice and leave it to cool whilst preparing the other items.

When the oil in the pan is ready, add the diced carrots and bell peper to cook, with the optional garlic if you have some already.

Stir fry for around five minutes before pushing the veggies to the side of the pan and crack in the four eggs before scrambling them.

”Once the eggs have cooked, I’m mixing them in with the vegetables.

”Then you’re gonna add your rice in and mix all of that together.

”Finally, you’re gonna add two tablespoons of soy sauce and your spring onion.”

Give all of this a good stir and cook for an additional three minutes and voila, you’re ready to serve your family a delicious meal on a budget.

The cash-savvy foodie wrote in the caption: ”This veg & egg fried rice is easy & delicious to make.

”If you want to you can add meat to this, but it’s still great without!”

‘Must say that looks lovely’

The recipe has clearly impressed many, as the video has racked up more than 130k views and almost 2,000 likes.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from comparison site Money.co.uk about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

One person commented: ”Well done. Type of post I like. Makes a change from people moaning about only having £20 to last them one day.”

Someone else chimed in: ”I think you’re really inspiring, cooking healthy unprocessed food on a budget.”

Another also praised the thrifty TikToker, writing: ”Lovely healthy meal for a family on a very tight budget! Well done girl.”

”Must say that looks lovely,” a fourth penned.

I bought splash pads from Temu and TikTok Shop for £9.99 to find the biggest for my kids – there was a clear winner

WHEN summer comes around, all most kids want to do is play in the sun – preferably with water involved.

A mum has revealed she bought two splash pads from Temu and TikTok shop for her kids to compare, and one was a clear winner.

She then showed how she picked up a yellow version from TikTok shop for £9.99 – and was impressed at the size[/caption]

Kassie shared how the Temu pad cost £10 and the TikTok shop one cost £9.99, so they were similar prices to compare.

However, they were very different in size.

On her @_kassieg account, the mum shared: “Temu one cost £10, my mum got it and expected it to be bigger and that is what we got.

“TikTok shop [product] cost £9.99 with free delivery and is bloody massive!!

“That is bloody huge, and that is a bargain for a tenner.

“Definitely your sign to get your hands on one for your children this summer!”

According to the TikTok shop, their large yellow splash mat is 168cm and designed for two to three children.

Bear in mind, it is designed for kids aged five to 14 and there is a 100kg weight limit on it.

It is also multi-purpose and can be used as a sand pit, ball pit or as a small pool or sprinkler pad.

Your pets can also make the most of it during the heat, and cool off from the sun.

You simply need to inflate the pad and connect the valve to your garden hose to enjoy the sprinkler effect.

To change the height of the sprinkles, you can increase or decrease the water pressure at the top.

Kassie explained: “It’s great, the edge just fills with water then sprays out the holes.”

Many of us have experienced the annoyance of a paddling pool or splash pad ripping so you can no longer use it.

The description reads: “Kids will love playing with water especially on a hot summer day, this will be an ideal gift for kids.”

Many people were impressed with the £9.99 bargain and said they wanted to turn their own gardens into a water wonderland.

One said: “Wow such a bargain.”

A second added: “wow!! that’s so good for the price!!!”

And a third commented: “TikTok shop wins every time!!”

Chaos as car ploughs into iconic landmark in central London with streets & Tube station sealed off by police

A CAR has smashed into Piccadilly Circus roundabout leaving the busy junction completely closed off.

Emergency services raced to the scene in the early hours of the morning today, June 29, after a car smashed into the roundabout.

All the roads leading to the huge junction have been left closed off and the nearby tube station has been left partially closed.

Images from the scene of the smash show a car on its roof after it appears to have crashed into the fountain at the centre of the roundabout.

An investigation into the collision is underway with a large police presence still on the scene.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.25am today (29 June) to reports of a road traffic collision on Piccadilly, W1J.

“We sent a number of resources, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

“Our first paramedic arrived on scene in less than four minutes.

I can fit 2 weeks’ worth of clothes for a long-haul holiday in just a carry-on suitcase with clever packing hack

AS the holiday season draws near, many of us find ourselves grappling with the intimidating task of packing for our travels.

Whether it’s a weekend escape or a two-week adventure abroad, the challenge of fitting everything into a carry-on bag can often seem impossible.

tiktok/@arabellastokes

However, one TikToker, known as ‘arabellastokes’, has taken the internet by storm with her ingenious packing hack that promises to transform the way we travel.

For many, packing for even a weekend in a carry-on bag feels like an impossible mission.

The endless debates over which outfits to take, the struggle to cram toiletries into a small space, and the constant worry of forgetting something essential can make the process overwhelming.

But TikToker Arabella shared how she successfully packed for a two-week trip to Japan – a country renowned for its diverse climates and unique fashion culture – all in the same compact suitcase.

What she packed:

  • Two jackets
  • Eight tops
  • One dress
  • Five pairs of trousers
  • Two pairs of trainers
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Makeup
  • Curling iron
  • Toiletries
  • Passport
  • Headphones
  • Laptop

Arabella’s packing tips combine clever folding techniques with the use of packing cubes, which can be purchased in a set of eight from Primark for just £8.

Packing cubes have become increasingly popular among travellers due to their ability to maximise space, minimise wrinkles, and provide easier access to belongings while on the move.

They help separate and compress clothing and other items, simplifying the packing and unpacking process, and may even save you from incurring carry-on luggage fees.

Her video, shared on 16 April, garnered 2.1 million views and 628 comments.

One viewer wrote: “How to be you? Haha. I will stay for only 11 days but I brought almost a month of clothes.”

Another commented: “My toxic trait is thinking I can do this too.”

A third added: “My toxic trait is thinking I could do this but then ending up with a checked luggage half of my husband’s checked luggage, a carry-on and personal item full.”

Meanwhile, someone else remarked: “That was really impressive… trying to convince myself that I can limit myself to a carry-on for Italy!”

Others were quick to point how heavy the carry on would be with all those items in.

A TikTok comment read: “This is 100% more than 7kg and you won’t be able to use this as cabin carry on though, no?”

She replied: “It depends on your airline! I’ve personally never had to weigh a carry-on.”

Hands holding a hairbrush over a packed travel case.

Investing into packing cubes is one of her main tips[/caption]

Each airline has it’s own policy and guidelines regarding the weight of a carry-on item. Passengers are required to check before they travel.

People were also keen to find out what suitcase she had as it was aesthetically gorgeous.

But unlike her cheap packing cubes, the carry-on came with a heft price tag.

She had the Beis Small Carry-On Roller in Beige, which retails at £223.

Holiday packing tips

Jemma Solomon, aka The Label Lady has got 5 packing tips to help you get organised for your next holiday.

1. Write a list

Think about all the essentials you need to take with you; suncream, medicine, a few games for the kids, beach towels, and write everything in one list, which you can tick off as you add it to your suitcase.

Or for complete ease, try Google’s AI app – Gemini – which will create a list for you and help you not over pack.

2. Involve your kids

Jemma said: “My girls are getting older, they’re 11 and nine, and they enjoy helping to pack. So I send them a list, and say ‘this is what you need’ and they follow the list.

“And then I give them a rucksack each – and say to them ‘you can have whatever you want in there as long as it’s not liquid’, and they can take that on the plane. And that’s their ‘home away from home’ items.”

3. Try a hack or two

She said: “I think they all work, but for different reasons – and you’ve just got to pick the right one for your trip.

“Rolling your clothes is really good to stop your clothes from getting creases. And if you’re trying to get a lot of items into your case, it’s a space saver.

“Packing cubes are great – for example, I’m going on holiday with my three kids and we’re all using the same suitcase for our clothes.

“These handy compartments let you separate your clothes, toiletries and tech into designated cubes, maximising luggage space by keeping your items compressed and neatly stacked.

“I love taking them abroad with the family and it means my kids can easily take charge of their own items once we’ve arrived.”

4. Decant beauty products

Do you really need to take full-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner with you? The beauty industry has evolved so much, you can now buy shampoo bars or sheets – which are much lighter and smaller.

Or, if you’ll be popping to the shops when you’re abroad, consider buying some items when you arrive.

5. Get organised before you come home

Jemma said: “When you repack on holiday [before coming home], the trick is to separate clean from dirty clothes.

“Also pack it in some form of order – so lights, darks, colours for items that need washing, or if you wash your clothes by person in the household, piles for each person.

“Then you can put it straight into the washing machine. Do it straight away, don’t leave it.”
