I’ve been left without a nose and gaping hole in my face – for months I’d complained to doctors of breathing pain

A MAN who complained of “breathing pain” has been left without his nose and a hole in his face after being diagnosed with cancer.

William Brogan, 47, was diagnosed with lymphoma in January after experiencing nose pain for more than a year.

After unsuccessful rounds of antibiotics, another biopsy found he had facial lymphoma, which had spread from his nose into his mouth[/caption]

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that originates in the lymphatic system, a network of vessels and glands spread throughout your body.

Despite multiple doctors’ appointments, William says he was simply given antibiotics which didn’t improve things.

He then had an initial biopsy in September 2024 which came back inconclusive.

Eventually after another round of unsuccessful antibiotics and pain breathing through his nose, William was given another biopsy in January which revealed a type of facial lymphoma.

The cancer had spread from William’s nose into his mouth, and he was told he’d need surgery.

He then underwent a 20-hour surgery to remove the cancer – which involved having his nose and upper gum removed – as well as making sure there was no cancer in his neck.

In the same operation, surgeons attempted to rebuild the gum using healthy tissue from under his arm – but it didn’t work, as the muscles in his mouth didn’t take to it.

William then had a second five-hour operation to remove parts of the graft and address his gum, before a third 12-hour operation which saw his surgeons rebuild his upper mouth by taking a skin graft from his arm and muscle from his waist.

He has since been undergoing radiotherapy, which is set to finish shortly, before work begins on reconstructing his nose.

William, a former chef from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, said: “I have never seen anybody else like this in my life.

“Diazepane [used to relieve symptoms of anxiety] is the thing that gives me the courage to go out.

“People say ‘there’s that man with the hole in his face’ “They’ve already taken a picture of my face, so they know what colour to make my nose.”

William claims he had told doctors for months that something was wrong with his nose.

He added: “I had been telling them for months and months that it was something more – you know your own body.

“Now I’ve got a hole in my face and a triangle where they removed part of my nose.”

He believes the cancer could have been caught earlier before it spread further around his neck and face.

William said: “It took them over a year to get a biopsy and find it was cancer.

“They could have caught this nine month earlier before it travelled into my mouth.

“The doctors didn’t know what it was – they gave me antibiotics to keep on top of it, but it wasn’t getting better.

“I just had a sore nose.

“I kept asking for antibiotics and another appointment took weeks to get.

“The antibiotics were helping at first but when I asked for more help I had to wait for an appointment.

“It got worse in that time waiting.”

William is now hoping to have a skin graft to rebuild his face within the year[/caption]

William is now hoping the radiotherapy has done enough to keep the cancer at bay so he can focus on rebuilding his face.

He said: “I’m hoping to have a skin graft to try and rebuild my face within the year.

“I finished with radiotherapy which I’ve been having for six weeks on Wednesday (18/06).

“I can’t thank the surgeons enough; they saved my life.”

What are the signs of lymphoma?

LYMPHOMA is a term for cancer that starts in the lymph system - a network of vessels and glands that spans your body.

There are two main kinds of lymphoma – Hodgkin Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Lymphoma can cause many different symptoms, depending on which type of lymphoma it is and where it develops in the body.

The most typical signs are:

  1. Swollen lymph nodes, such as in the neck, armpit or groin area
  2. Night sweats
  3. Extreme tiredness
  4. Itching
  5. Unexplained weight loss
  6. Fever
  7. Excessive bleeding, such as nosebleeds, heavy periods and spots of blood under the skin

Other signs of lymphoma in a more localised area include:

  1. Swelling of the stomach, loss of appetite and other abdominal symptoms
  2. Coughing, shortness of breath, or chest pain

I sunbathe naked on my balcony, my OAP neighbours complain constantly & builders wolf-whistle – I couldn’t care less

DRIPPING with sweat as she walks in the front door Mel Shelton, 30, drops her bag on the floor and peels off her jeans, shirt, and underwear.

But the psychology student isn’t headed to the shower.

Mel Shelton loves sunbathing naked on her balcony, even she does get a few stares

She says sunbathing nude means she doesn’t end up with weird tan lines from her swimming costume[/caption]

Instead, she pours herself an ice-cold juice, grabs some sunscreen and walks out onto the balcony where she lays on her sunlounger – completely starkers.

“If people above my flat crane their necks they may get an eyeful,” she says.

“Window cleaners working on scaffolding across the road let out a cheer once and I got a thumbs up from a builder on the balcony above me too.

“A couple of OAP’s have  given me evils in the lift and mumbled people should stay covered on their ‘terrace’

“I’m not bothered by people getting the odd eyeful.

“I’d rather strip down than cover up to enjoy this current burst of warm weather.”

Mel, a hairdresser and mature psychology student, lives in her two-bedroom rented apartment in her block of flats in Warrington, Cheshire.

“I chose this flat because the balcony gets sun in winter and summer,” she says.

“It’s the outdoor space many people who live in apartments don’t get to enjoy.

“I moved in two years ago; my balcony has been my ‘me time’ sunning space in the hot weather.

“It’s also saved me cash on the sunbeds I would otherwise be using.”

However, while Mel’s sunbathing spot is relatively secluded, she doesn’t go totally unnoticed.

“Window cleaners and repair men are often working on the outside of the apartment block,” she explains.

“There have been a few times when I opened my eyes to gawking blokes and the odd wolf-whistle.

“As for grumpy OAPs who somehow manage to spot my bare skin, I just smile when they waggle their fingers at me.

“I told one older woman she should have a go herself and the next time she saw me she looked tanned and gave me a cheeky wink.”

But while plenty of Brits will enjoy basking in the sun this week, according to recent research a growing number will be stripping off just like Mel.

An Ipsos survey found 6.75 million or 14% of British adults describe themselves as naturists an increase of 8% since 2011.

But more astonishingly of those people more than 30% of women are stripping off in 2025 empowered using naturism as a vehicle for improved body confidence, self-esteem, and mental well-being.

Naturists groups say around 2 million women are now bearing all now compared to a 2011 when figures show less than 600,000 were stripping off in the sun.

“I am one of those women, I have learnt to love my body and not be ashamed of it,” says Mel.

“I am hoping for a heatwave this week. I may even take a day off work just to top up my tan if that happens.”

Join the growing number of other women stripping off and embracing ‘buff love’

Mel Shelton

Mel’s naked and topless sunbathing obsession began more than a decade ago.

“I started sunbathing topless at home when I was 19,” she explains.

“I’d find a sheltered area of the garden and ensure my bikini top didn’t leave unwanted marks.”

But she admits that her dedication to achieving the perfect tan has seen her get burnt on a few occasions, literally.

“I have ended up with a burnt bottom and boobs,” she says.

“I learnt my lesson and always top up with SPF as I have fair skin.

Is it legal to sunbathe topless?

Being naked in the comfort of your own home or sunbathing topless in the garden might not seem like a huge problem.

But it could get you in trouble.

Under the law, it’s technically legal to be naked anywhere in the UK, unless the nudity is to cause shock, outrage or upset.

For it to become illegal, it needs to be proven that the stripping off was done deliberately.

This means it is legal for you to be naked in your own back garden, as long as you’re not doing so to upset your neighbours.

So if you’re thinking of sunbathing in the nude, make sure your neighbours can’t overlook or wouldn’t mind.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service “a balance needs to be struck between the naturist’s right to freedom of expression and the right of the wider public to be protected from harassment, alarm and distress”.

While she may have faced some judgement, Mel wants to encourage other women to starkers sunbathing and realise how beneficial it can be.

“I know firsthand that if you have the guts to strip off and enjoy the sun you don’t get so hung up and obsessed with body issues,” she says.

“It’s not just for an all over tan there are multiple health benefits as well as you’re allowing your skin to breathe and get some Vitamin D.

“Just remember if you are going to go topless or naked, check who is around, be considerate and don’t break the law.

“The weather’s heating up so join the growing number of other women stripping off and embracing ‘buff love’.”

Teen, 19, left with broken neck after freak beach accident when trying to cool down in water

A TEENAGER has been left with a broken neck following a freak accident when he tried to cool himself down in the water.

Aiden Sloan, 19, plowed into a sandbar head-on while diving into a wave, his mom revealed.

He suffered the injuries while at the beach in New Hampshire on June 23, as reported by Fox News.

Aiden, who works in a noodle bar in a casino, was knocked out when he collided with the sandbar and his cousins recalled the moment they realized something was wrong.

Family friend Jessica O’Brien said the teenager misjudged the depth of the water.

Michael Henry said it looked like Sloan’s eyes were “bulging” out of his face, as reported by the NBC affiliate WBTS-CD.

Gabriel Ruiz, Aiden’s other cousin, tried to bring him to shore and said it was like carrying a dead body.

“He was just, like, not moving at all,” he said.

Temperatures had soared to almost 90F on Monday when Aiden was trying to cool off in the water at Hampton Beach.

Aiden has been left with a broken neck and suffered a bruised spine and concussion.

Mom Melina Burton has updated social media users on her son’s condition after his accident.

In one post from June 27, she revealed Aiden couldn’t squeeze or move his fingers.

Aiden can slightly move his left knee but still had no movement on the right, and he can control both of his arms.

“He’s frustrated that all he can do is lay there,” she said.

Melina also revealed her son has suffered nightmares following the accident.

A nurse woke up Aiden after he feared he was drowning again, according to a GoFundMe post.

Melina revealed she’s hopeful Aiden would be moved out of the intensive care unit, and shared pictures of her son enjoying a lobster roll.

She said he was determined to feed himself two bites, which he managed to achieve.

Aiden has been enjoying ice cream and orange juice while in the hospital, according to his mom.

She told Fox News Digital it was “heartbreaking” to see him defeated.

Tributes have been paid to the teen, who has aspirations of becoming a chef.

“He is the funniest human you’ll ever meet,” O’Brien told the Portsmouth Herald.

The Oasis legend is getting ready to return to the stage with the band’s first live show in two decades.

The super group will play at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday.

Yesterday, Liam tweeted a major detail about the first night of the tour, when he posted: “Oasis on stage 8.15pm Cardiff don’t be late or we’ll start without you and you don’t want that now do ya see ya there LG x”

However, the singer appeared to immediately regret his post – or he was told to take it down – as he deleted it straight away.

Fans took to Reddit to discuss Liam’s deleted tweet, with one saying: “Maybe this is a troll to get us in early to see the support.

“Or does this mean it will be a 3 hour show? Either way I’m so fucking excited for Friday!”

Another added: “There is a 10.30 curfew so that’s when it end.”

NOEL TALKS

It comes just days after his older brother Noel Gallagher, 58, revealed details of how rehearsals are going.

Speaking to TalkSPORT on Friday, the rocker said: “We finished rehearsing last Tuesday.

“We’ve got a few days off now and it’s sounding huge, so we’re all, well this is it, there’s no going back now. It’s good.”

Oasis will kick off their long awaited reunion tour on Friday July 4 in Cardiff.

The sell out run of stadium gigs includes 5 shows at Heaton Park in Manchester and seven at Wembley.

Gigs will run all summer with the closing concert on September 28.

The band were recently heard rehearsing together, performing an electric version of Cigarettes and Alcohol all but confirming its place in the setlist.

Liam arrived at the London practice space armed with throat sweets but sounded in fine form, no doubt aided by his decision to swap booze for tea.

A source close to the Gallaghers told us: “Liam drinks tea to help warm up his vocal chords.

“He feels really fresh and they’re excited to get going.

“Rehearsals have been electric and they’re perfectly in sync.”

Uefa POSTPONE decision on Crystal Palace’s Europa League fate indefinitely with club left in limbo

CRYSTAL PALACE’S agonising Europa League limbo has been indefinitely extended.

The Eagles place in Europe next season is under threat due to Uefa’s multi-club ownership rules.

UEFA have once again delayed the ruling over Crystal Palace’s future in the Europa League[/caption]

John Textor, who is selling his majority share in Palace, also owns French side Lyon who have qualified for the competition alongside the south Londoners.

Palace bosses have been in talks with Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body to argue their case and were expecting a resolution this week.

However, with Textor’s financial trouble at Lyon having seen the club relegated to Ligue 2 the chaos drags on.

The seven-time French champions have appealed against the relegation but will forfeit their place in Europe should they fail.

In a statement on Monday, Uefa said: “The CFCB First Chamber has decided to postpone its assessment of the multi-club ownership case involving Olympique Lyonnais and Crystal Palace.

“This postponement relates to Olympique Lyonnais’ compliance with the settlement agreement concluded with the CFCB First Chamber for its breach of the financial sustainability requirements.

“As part of this settlement, Olympique Lyonnais agreed on an exclusion from the 2025/26 UEFA club competitions should the French authority (DNCG) confirm the club’s relegation to Ligue 2.

“Further details on this multi-club ownership case and this settlement agreement will be communicated in due course.”

‘Everyone needs to change’ – Aidan O’Brien drops his guard in passionate TV interview after Lambourn wins Irish Derby

THE usually unflappable Aidan O’Brien dropped his guard in a passionate TV interview after Lambourn won the Irish Derby.

The Ballydoyle boss was responding to criticism of the Curragh card on one of their biggest weekends of the season.

Some punters claimed a series of lower-grade handicaps ruined what should have been three days of top class action.

And, in their opinion, that led to a load of people snubbing the track – in a mirror of punters deserting Epsom for our Derby.

Racing TV presenter Kevin O’Ryan said he hadn’t seen as big a crowd for an Irish Derby ‘in a long time’.

But official figures showed the attendance had actually dropped from last year – when 11,400 racegoers were there compared to 11,200 this year.

O’Brien, the biggest Flat trainer in the sport, wasn’t having any of the criticism.

And he said people had to vote with their feet and get to the track to feel the atmosphere, because that is what will keep them coming back.

Getting uncharacteristically animated, a lit-up O’Brien said: “I think most of the criticism is unfair.

“If everyone just gets it into their head to tell people to come racing – not to be critical and not how bad it is – tell people how good it is!

“It’s the greatest nonsense, it’s negativity at its strongest.

“Tell people how good it is and everyone will come and have a good time

“That’s the problem – everyone in racing needs to change.

“Tell people how great it is and come and feel it.

“The more people who come the better the atmosphere, the more things will happen and be put on.

“We’re all in this world at this time, enjoy it and get together and have a great time.

“Try not to be negative, be positive!

“If you’re positive all the positive things will happen. If you’re negative all the negative things will come.

“Everybody, try to be more positive.

“Believe me it will be so much better for everybody because all anyone wants to do is get people in and help everyone and do the best they can for everyone.”

ITV Racing presenter Oli Bell was among those praising O’Brien, saying he was ‘bang on the money’.

Not everyone was convinced, however.

At a time when racecourse are coming under increased scrutiny for ticket and food prices as well as the quality on show on the track, one said: “What he’s basically say is sweep the bad things under the carpet? No thanks.”

O’Brien was speaking after Lambourn made it a Derby double following his win at Epsom earlier this month.

The Ryan Moore-ridden 8-13 fav looked under the cosh four furlongs out as his jockey got down to serious work in the saddle.

But he simply kept finding and repelled all challengers, including shock 28-1 runner-up Serious Contender.

He was beaten a length by King George V Stakes handicap winner Merchant at Royal Ascot.
