What is Putin doing in space? Secretive Russian ‘killer satellite’ detected launching mystery probe near US spacecraft

A SECRETIVE Russian “killer satellite” deployed in space was detected launching another mysterious flying object near a US spacecraft.

Kosmos-2558 is a Russian military satellite that is currently on an orbital path which is suspiciously close to USA-326 – an American spy satellite.

The 14F150 Nivelir-type satellite was deployed into a Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO) – and has presumably been stalking the US space asset since 2022.

It is believed to have the capacity to constantly monitor enemy spy satellites and potentially shoot them down if needed.

Space program researchers have now detected a new object that appeared to have separated from the Russian inspector satellite on June 26.

The new flying object, named 2025-089C or simply Object C, appeared to be a subsatellite that was launched by Kosmos-2558.

It was filmed on 28 June 2025 from Leiden, the Netherlands, using a powerful astronomy camera.

The clip shows Kosmos 2558 passing through the frame.

Just 16 seconds later, Object C can be seen moving in the same direction but on a different orbit.

It is believed that Object C is a highly manoeuvrable sub-satellite with onboard high-speed kinetic anti-satellite weapons.

Two earlier Russian satellites of the same type, Kosmos-2519 and 2542, also released subsatellites, which were designated Cosmos-2521 and 2543.

Bart Hendrickx, a long-time space researcher and Russian space program expert, wrote in his blog: “Both of those [Russian] satellites showed significant manoeuvring capability and each fired a high-speed projectile that was interpreted by the Pentagon as an anti-satellite weapon.

“This happened when they were flying in the vicinity of other Russian satellites.”

Last year, Putin launched a terrifying weapon system into space capable of killing other satellites.

The Pentagon said that the Russian counter-space weapon was put into the “same orbit” as a US government satellite – and is likely tracking the space device already.

The Russian space object believed to be Cosmos-2576 was launched on May 16 on a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket from Russia’s Plesetsk Cosmodrome, some 497 miles north of Moscow.

It is now following American spy satellite USA 314, operated by the US National Reconnaissance Office.

An unofficial Russian source claimed the launch carried a “secret military device”.

While it was previously reported as a Russian space satellite, the US has now warned it could be a counter-space weapon capable of attacking other such tech.

Pentagon spokesman Brig Gen Pat Ryder said: “Russia launched a satellite into low Earth orbit that we assess is likely a counter-space weapon.

Terrifying space weapons of the future

Rods from God

  • A strange but utterly terrifying weapon has been dubbed “rods from the God” and is based on the concept of creating man-made meteorites that can be guided towards the enemy.
  • Instead of using rocks, rods the size of telephone poles are deployed.
  • These would be made out of tungsten — a rare metal that can stand the intense heat generated by entering Earth’s atmosphere.
  • One satellite fires the rods towards the Earth’s atmosphere while the other steers them to a target on the ground.
  • Reaching speeds of 7000mph they hit the ground with the force of a small nuclear weapon — but crucially creating no radiation fall out.
  • As bizarre as it sounds, a US Congressional report recently revealed the military has been pushing ahead with the kinetic space weapons.

Molten metal cannons

  • This intriguing idea is being developed by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
  • It is called the Magneto Hydrodynamic Explosive Munition or MAHEM.
  • This game changing rail-gun can fire a jet of molten metal, hurled through space at several hundred miles per second by the most powerful electromagnets ever built.
  • The molten metal can then morph into an aerodynamic slug during flight and pierce through another spacecraft or satellite and a munition explodes inside.

Space force ships

  • Already the United States is powering head with its spacecraft, although China is busy developing one of their own.
  • The top-secret American XS-1 is under development by DARPA.
  • It can travel ten times the speed of sound and launch missiles.
  • Meanwhile an unmanned craft is currently being developed in the China Aerodynamics Research and Development Centre in Mianyang, Sichuan province, which is also known as Base 29.

“It was deployed into the same orbit as a US government satellite and assessments further indicate characteristics resembling previously deployed counter space payloads from 2019 and 2022.”

“We will continue to monitor the situation … we have a responsibility to be ready to protect and defend the space domain and ensure continuous and uninterrupted support to the joint and combined force.”

Russia’s Roskosmos state space agency said the launch was “in the interests of the defence ministry of the Russian Federation”.

In 2023, US intelligence chiefs warned that Russia is planning to launch nukes into space that would destroy satellites in a “grave” threat to the world’s security.

Military experts have warned that Putin would take the “suicidal” decision to launch the deadly weapons if he felt his grip on power was being threatened by Ukraine and the West.

Mad despot Putin has already tested orbital weapons designed for blasting Western kits – such as the anti-satellite weapon, Cosmos 2543.

Many more could follow him out of the exit door with Wednesday players able to hand in a 15-day notice period.

That is because the senior team have not been paid for a second month in a row, according to The Guardian.

Players will be able to terminate their contracts in 15 days time if they are not paid the money they are owed.

Manager Danny Rohl is also in discussions over his exit, with the German failing to show up for pre-season.

It is understood Under-21s players have received their June salaries, with the club offering an apology to first-team players who still have not been paid.

The club has pledged to pay them in full but did not specify when this would be.

Even if the players are paid within the 15-day period, the club could still face EFL sanctions.

The EFL could refer Wednesday to an independent commission and possible punishments include a transfer embargo, fine and points deduction.

Players have returned for pre-season training, which is being overseen by U21 boss Andy Holdsworth.

Rohl’s staff are also out of contract and are expected to leave.

Another club legend Liam Palmer has also seen his contract expire, along with Callum Paterson, Nathaniel Chalobah, Svante Ingelsson and Akin Famewo.

Fans have urged Wednesday boss Dejphon Chansiri and although he is open to a sale, offers from two US consortiums have been deemed insufficient.

Major heatwave warning for Irish holidaymakers as red alerts issued for three European sunshine spots

IRISH holidaymakers have been sent a major warning as three popular getaway spots have been issued red alert heatwave warnings.

While Ireland is coming out on the other side of a scorching few days, three European destinations are still in the midst of one.

Parts of France will sizzle at 43C[/caption]

France, Spain and Croatia are all set to see near record breaking levels of heat in the coming days.

Meteorologists at Carlow Weather took to social media to share the news.

Posting on Facebook, they said: “While Ireland has fresher weather today many parts of Europe continue to see a heatwave.

Some red warnings today Tuesday for high temperatures in parts of France, Germany and Croatia.

A hot day to be queueing in Disneyland Paris if you happen to be there!

Spain is set to experience the highest temperatures, with searing 42C expected to hit parts of the country.

The regions of Andalusia and Extremadura are likely to be worst hit as they are on the south west coast.

Weather bosses have predicted temperatures from 40C to 43C will plague the regions.

And the area is home to some of Spain’s most popular holiday destinations including Cordoba, Seville, Malaga and Cadiz.

Meanwhile in France, temperatures across the country are set to sit anywhere between 21C to 40C.

The majority of the country, including capital city Paris, will be engulfed by 38C heat.

Meanwhile northern coastal areas in Brittany and Normandy will see more bearable temperatures of 21C.

And in Croatia, temperatures will climb as high as 40C in some areas.

While the east of the country will be 34C on average, the west of the country will sizzle at anywhere from 35CF to 40C.

Spanish meteorologists at the country’s Met Office, AEMET, said the month of June was as hot as an average July or August.

They said on X: “The average temperature in June 2025 (23.6 °C) is higher than the normal average for July and August (23.1 °C and 23 °C, respectively).

“This is the first time this has happened.

“If a July or August had an average temperature of 23.6 °C, its character would be warm.”

Irish holidaymakers could find themselves disappointed when they experience the insane heat levels.

It is likely that many will spend much of their time indoors while abroad to escape the unbearable heat.

Visitors have been advised to follow the guidelines of local authorities while in affected areas.

I gave my house an extra room with NO planning permission thanks to a 1970s caravan I bought on Facebook for £300

A SAVVY woman has been able to extend her home without needing any planning permission.

Sarah, from the UK, decided to buy herself a cheap caravan to create an extra room for her house instead of doing an extension.

Despite having no previous experience, she transformed it into a luxe spare room[/caption]

Taking to social media, Sarah revealed that she purchased a pre-loved 1970s caravan from Facebook Marketplace for just £300.

She said: “It only cost me 300 quid but it smelled really bad.

“Practically everything was broken. But I could still see the potential, even though I could smell urine.”

Sarah got to work over the next week chucking out the old interiors and giving it a spruce-up.

The foldable caravan was in dire shape when she got it, even the brakes had rusted and fallen out, but it didn’t put her off.

The benches inside the caravan were just as bad, in fact, they couldn’t even be sat on as there was nothing to let them hold weight.

“Things often fell on me and at times I couldn’t tell if it was going to be any good, because at some points it actually looked worse than it did at the beginning,” she added.

“I’d pretty much trashed it. And somehow I also managed to trash my parents’ garden in the process.”

Sarah was almost ready to give up on the transformation but after being encouraged by her TikTok followers managed to pull through.

And it seems to have paid off, the caravan looked incredible once she was done.

People were floored by her skills[/caption]

She stuck with the 1970s theme, using a mix of warm woods and orange hues inside.

She was able to fix the benches with some extra foam from Dunelm and some curtains from Home Sense that she stapled onto the seats.

Sarah ripped out the floor and used some vinyl flooring for a more modern touch before adding a lick of coral paint to the walls.

For final touches, she added a wooden scalloped table, a 70s-style mushroom lamp and some rattan storage.

She finished the video saying: “I never in a million years thought I’d be capable of doing all of this work myself.”

The clip soon went viral on her TikTok account @imtheproblem with over 72k views and people were quick to praise her DIY skills.

One person wrote: “You’ve done a stellar job. It’s a dream caravan.”

‘They are crazy’ – Distraught Wimbledon star feared ‘dangerous’ fan had knife and demanded they were kicked out

A WIMBLEDON star feared a “crazy” fan had a knife courtside – before losing in 45 minutes without winning a game.

World No33 Yulia Putintseva halted her first-round clash on Monday to report the spectator to the umpire.

The chair umpire spoke to the security midway through the first set[/caption]

Bystanders said the man had been attempting to talk to Putintseva, 30, during her serve at the start of her match against American Amanda Anisimova on Court 15.

She said: “Can you take him out because maybe he has a knife? I am not going to continue playing until he leaves.

“These people are dangerous, they are crazy.”

Play resumed after the chair umpire consulted security personnel, but it was unclear if any action was taken against them.

It is understood that the spectator was not carrying a knife and would have been searched for weapons by ground security when entering.

A visibly emotional Putintseva, ranked 33rd in the world, lost 6-0, 6-0 in a match lasting only 44 minutes.

She won just 21 points and made 14 unforced errors in a dire showing against the No13 seed.

The Russian-born player also hit just one winner and, while 5-0 down in the second set, began crying into her towel between games.

Pushed on the fan incident, Wimbledon head of operations Michelle Dite told SunSport: “We’ve been very upfront about this, that if the players have got any concerns, if they feel that there’s something that doesn’t feel quite right, they absolutely should bring it to light.

“We would rather know about these things.

“So in terms of those conversations, protocols were followed, and the matter was dealt with.”

Ms Dite added it was not a stalking-related incident.

She went on: “There was an issue raised by one of the players.

“We want to create the best possible theatre for them to come and do their thing.

“One of the players had some concerns, they went and spoke to the umpire, we checked it all out with security.”

Wimbledon bosses played down the incident, including Putintseva’s “knife” remark.

A spokesman insisted: “Security was in the area. The issue was dealt with.”

Russian-born Putintseva previously sparked outrage when she told a rival star to “go f*** yourself” during a warm-up event.

Fellow player Maria Sakkari had told Putintseva “nobody likes you”, before the firebrand star snapped back: “Go f*** yourself”.

The GOV.UK App will launch in a basic stage initially, as Labour roll-out the beta version today.

Initial roll-out takes place today

This incarnation of the app will allow users to prioritise topics on their home page, depending on which government services are most useful to them.

These areas include benefits, care, travel and business amongst others.

Having these services on the home page will make it easier for 88 million Brits to engage with the government.

Users will also be able to log-in using facial ID, removing the need for separate passwords for different services.

The upgraded version of the app is set to roll out later this year and will feature an AI chat bot – named GOV.UK Chat.

It will help to answer specific questions using information from the 700,000 page website.

A GOV.UK wallet will become available on the app too, which will contain a digital driving license and other hard-copies of important documents.

No more paper forms

Ahead of the launch, Peter Kyle, the technology secretary, said: “Our new GOV.UK App shows for the first time how this government is overhauling taxpayer-funded services as we deliver on our Plan for Change.

“By putting public services in your pocket, we will do away with clunky paper forms and hours spent on hold, so you can immediately get the information you need and continue on with the rest of your day.

“This release of the GOV.UK App is just the start.

“Soon, you will be able to use it to ask GOV.UK Chat any question you like about government services, and get a reliable answer immediately.

Personal notifications straight to your phone

“You will then get personal notifications, reminding you when your MOT is due or whether you need to register to vote, and then you will be able to closely track your childcare credits just as you do your bank account.”

The app is a key part of Labour’s Plan For Change – which aims to slash red tape slowing down British growth.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has already axed NHS England in a bid to make the National Health Service more interconnected and efficient.

Another part of the plan includes a £39 billion scheme which will support the construction of affordable housing across the country.
