Bizarre moment pensioner drives mobility scooter down 70MPH A-road at night after ‘accidentally taking wrong turn’

THIS is the moment a pensioner drives a mobility scooter down a 70mph A-road at night after accidentally taking the wrong turn.

The man appeared unfazed while on the slip road on the A13 carriageway near Dagenham, which had to be closed in order to escort him onto local roads.

Emergency services were already in the area due to a separate vehicle fire[/caption]

Video footage of the incident shows the man slowly driving next to the footpath of the motorway.

The man is wearing a black jacket making him difficult to spot even with overhead streetlights.

While he does have flashing lights on the scooter, they are very small and hard to see at speed as seen in the dashcam footage.

His scooter continues to slowly creep along the inside of the three-lane motorway as a driver slows down to avoid a collision.

Passing vehicles are forced to swerve in order to miss the old motorist, while truck drivers can be seen slamming on their brakes.

Later, emergency services can be seen with flashing lights ahead of the man, while officers approach him on foot.

They continue to talk to the man outside an ambulance.

The policemen then appear to be assisting the man with directions, pointing towards the sliproad to Dagenham.

During the video, a man can be heard saying “he’s following his satnav”.

Under Rule 46 of the Highway Code, mobility scooters must not be used on unrestricted dual carriageways where the speed limit exceeds 50mph.

But if being used, users should have an amber flashing light to warn other drivers that they’re on the road.

Drivers of mobility scooters should always take care when travelling on the road as you’re likely to be travelling more slowly than other traffic and may be less visible.

The maximum speed limit for mobility scooters is 8mph on the road, but 4mph on the pavement.

Emergency services were already in the area – responding to a separate vehicle fire – which intervened to save the man.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, based in Chadwell Heath, managed to bring the situation under control,

No injuries or collisions were reported.

The Metropolitan Police said: “At around 9:40pm, officers were alerted to a man on a mobility scooter travelling eastbound on the A13. The man was escorted to safety and advised. The road has since reopened.”

The potentially-dangerous mistake thankfully had a happy ending.

I was eating 20,000 calories a day with my triple pizza habit and ballooned to 42st – then six words changed me

TUCKING into the final slice of her cheese feast pizza, Teresa Parent’s stomach grumbled.

She might have just devoured a pizza large enough to feed two but her insatiable appetite meant that Teresa still had room for more.

After having surgery to remove her loose skin, Teresa now fits into size 12 clothing[/caption]

Putting the takeaway box to one side, she lifts the lid of her second large pizza of the evening, and she has a third to demolish after that.

It was part of a 20,000 calorie eating problem that saw the 45-year-old balloon to over 42st and saw her teetering on the brink of death.

“I struggled with diabetes, high blood pressure, and I even had a mild heart attack in 2016,” Teresa, from Long Beach, California, says.

“When I heard the words ‘you won’t be alive in five years’ from doctors it shook me.

“That was the wake-up call I needed.”

That set her on the path to an astonishing weight loss journey, shedding a staggering 33st and completely transforming her life.

The teacher initially lost 12st naturally through diet and exercise before undergoing gastric bypass surgery, which helped her shed an additional 14st.

Teresa’s weight first spiralled out of control after her brother took his own life in 2001.

“When he died I completely checked out,” Teresa previously said.

“It was the very first traumatic loss I experienced and I blamed myself for not being able to help my brother.

“I stopped taking care of myself.

“My mother killed herself a couple of years later and their deaths played a role in lack of self love and self care.”

Teresa soon began emotional eating to deal with her depression and self-hate.

She says: “I was eating a large pizza almost daily and stopping at fast food drive thru restaurants and hiding in my car while I ate.

“Then I would go home and eat triple decker peanut butter sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, and tons of crisps, cookies, and junk food on a daily basis.”

By 2016 Teresa, then 38, was so morbidly obese that she suffered a mild heart attack, which motivated her to seek medical advice.

It was then that doctors warned her she could be dead in five years if she didn’t lose weight.

Before she could undergo surgery Teresa put herself on a strict diet, restricting her calorie intake dramatically and walking as much as she could.

Between 2017 and 2018 she lost 12st from diet and exercise alone and in 2018 she had gastric bypass surgery to reduce the size of her stomach which saw the final 14st melt away.

But after losing the weight, she was left with three stone of excess skin, which caused significant discomfort and emotional distress.

“The loose skin impacted my entire life—mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally,” she admits.

“It made me look much bigger than I actually was.

“It was painful, embarrassing, and shameful.”

Teresa underwent a Fleur-de-Lis abdominoplasty, removing the hanging skin from her abdomen.

“All the skin is gone. It’s done,” she says.

“That skin was literally the last piece of all my grief. I made myself feel bad for so long, but I deserve to be happy.

“I used to be an 8XL, and now I fit into a size 12. I never imagined this would be my life.”

Teresa now helps others struggling with their weight to follow in her footsteps.

Her TikTok is now a space where she shares recipes, weight loss tips, and raw, unfiltered moments of her journey.

And she has gained over a million followers with her healthier versions of classic comfort foods, proving that losing weight doesn’t mean giving up the meals you love.

“People comment on my videos all the time, saying, ‘That’s not really healthy or nutritious,’ but let me tell you something—this works for me,” she says.

“I’ve lost 33st and kept it off for years. I’ve found ways to make my favourite foods healthier, and that’s what matters.”

People think that just because I’ve lost the weight, everything is perfect. It’s not

Teresa Parent

From high-protein desserts to guilt-free comfort meals, Teresa’s recipes have captivated an army of fans.

Her recently released cookbook, Now We’re Cooking, created in collaboration with Chef Rich Eaton, is flying off the shelves.

“I share my food to help others who have battled obesity,” she says.

Losing weight doesn’t mean deprivation—it means learning how to make smarter choices.

“If I can enjoy dessert every single day without feeling guilty, then so can you.”

Beyond the kitchen, Teresa’s transformation has influenced those closest to her, including her husband, Mike.

“People ask me all the time, ‘How does your healthy lifestyle influence Mike?’ Well, when we first started dating, he would eat big ice cream sandwiches all the time,” she says.

“Now, after a year and a half together, this way of living is our new normal. Instead of reaching for processed junk, he asks for the healthier versions I make. It’s just what we do.”

What food do you need for a healthy diet?

IF you want to have good health, a good way to start is from your diet.

The Eatwell Guide shows that to have a healthy, balanced diet, people should try to:

  • eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day
  • base meals on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta
  • have some dairy or dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks)
  • eat some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein
  • choose unsaturated oils and spreads, and eat them in small amounts
  • drink plenty of fluids (at least 6 to 8 glasses a day)

Their love story is another incredible milestone in Teresa’s journey.

She married Mike, the love of her life on February 22, something she never imagined would happen at her heaviest.

“I never thought I’d find love at my heaviest,” she says.

“But I worked on myself, and now I get to share my life with someone who truly supports and loves me.”

Despite her incredible transformation, Teresa is open about the ongoing struggles she faces.

“Since weighing over 42st, I’ve battled terrible arthritis, neuropathy, and shooting pains in my feet,” she says.

“I try to manage it with CBD and holistic remedies because I don’t like taking medication. It’s been a game-changer.

“People think that just because I’ve lost the weight, everything is perfect. It’s not.

“I brutalised my body for years, and I still have scars. But I am so much happier and healthier than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

Determined to help others break free from the cycle of obesity and self-doubt, she and her business partner, Tonya, launched the chart-topping podcast Transform Your Life_ with Teresa and Tonya_.

Since its debut last year, the show has skyrocketed to the No.1 weight loss podcast, proving just how many people are desperate for honest conversations about extreme weight loss, mental health, and body image.

But they didn’t stop there. Teaming up with Dr. Eric Smith from TLC’s 1,000-Lb Sisters and Pop Recovery Systems, the duo created the Transformation Academy—a game-changing online platform offering nutrition guidance, fitness plans, mental health support, recipes, and expert-led advice on bariatric and skin removal surgery.

The response has been overwhelming.

“This is so much bigger than weight loss,” she says.

“It’s about giving people their lives back.”

Teacher, 26, charged with having sex with student, 16 – after ‘telling colleague about sick affair’

A TEACHER has been charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student after allegedly telling a colleague about the sick affair.

Jocelyn Sanroman, 26, is now facing a felony charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The alleged sexual relationship reportedly occurred in 2023 while she was employed at Oakside Prep Academy near Detroit, Michigan.

The high-performing charter school promotes a “Moral Focus” curriculum aimed at helping students “discern and appreciate the difference between right and wrong,” according to its website.

Sanroman had not been arraigned as of Monday morning, but Oakland County deputies had posted her mugshot online, the New York Post reports.

Prosecutors claim Sanroman, of Pontiac, admitted to another teacher that she was having sex with a student.

That coworker than reportedly informed law enforcement, triggering the criminal investigation.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a statement: “This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim.

“These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators by parents and the community.”

“As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation,” she added.

Sanroman could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the charge.

It comes after a married teacher from Indiana allegedly asked three underage boys to “gangbang” her while wearing a Scream mask.

Brittany Fortinberry, 31, was facing a barrage of charges after multiple alleged victims accused her of rape, sexual exploitation, and plying them with drugs and alcohol.

Court documents claim that the former Eminence High School teacher groomed at least 10 boys – some as young as 13 – through gifts, manipulation, and disturbing sexual advances.

In March, five more alleged victims came forward, with her husband Nicholas Fortinberry also facing charges for allegedly knowing about the abuse and threatening the boys to keep quiet.

A police affidavit alleged that Fortinberry took a 13-year-old and two of his friends to a mall before calling their parents to ask if they could spend the night at her home.

Once they were there, she allegedly ordered them to have group sex with her — on the condition that they wore a Scream mask.

“Brittany had one condition for them to have the gangbang with her and that was that they had to wear a Scream mask to f**k her,” the affidavit states.

Meanwhile in Tennessee, a teacher who raped a 12-year-old student and became pregnant was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Alissa McCommon, who taught at Charger Academy, was accused of using her position of trust and authority to exploit minors in her care, cultivating relationships with kids both inside and outside the classroom.

Her sentencing came amid chilling allegations that she may have as many as 21 victims.

The former fourth-grade teacher pleaded guilty to charges including child rape, statutory rape, solicitation of minors, and sexual exploitation of minors.

Circuit Court Judge Blake Neill imposed a sentence of 25 years without the possibility of parole and ordered McCommon to register as a Violent Sex Offender.

Authorities said McCommon gained access to her victims by forming personal bonds, engaging with them on social media, and even befriending their mothers.

Lewis Capaldi breaks silence on emotional Glastonbury return after taking a break from music

LEWIS Capaldi has opened up about his poignant return to music after a two-year hiatus.

Superstar Lewis took a much-needed break away from the spotlight, but has now come back stronger than ever.

Looking back to 2023’s Glastonbury, Lewis revealed how unhappy he was[/caption]

The Scots-born singer, 28, made a triumphant return to the Glastonbury stage over the weekend.

In a heart-warming video posted on his social media, he revealed his true feelings surrounding the burn-out.

Speaking from the heart, he told fans: “One word to describe how I’m feeling now is… spectacular.”

Looking back over his Glastonbury experience in 2023, he admitted: “This should be like, a really happy moment, and it isn’t.

“I’m like, achieving my dream here. If there was a film about being a singer, and starting as a kid, and they’d be like, Oh, I’d love to be a singer one day and perform in front people, I’ve done it.

“I’ve got to the end of the film and it’s not how I thought it was going to be.

“And all these people are singing at me and I feel 1,000 miles away there, and I watch it back and actually feel sad.

“Second song in, I was probably just thinking, this has to be it, like… I can’t keep doing this to myself.

“As far as I was concerned, it was like, I’m done. I didn’t take a break to just focus on getting better.

“I took a break because I needed a break and to sort of release the pressure valve a little bit.”

Within the montage, Lewis added pictures and home-filmed clips of himself performing as a youngster, full of hopes and dreams.

He captioned the tear-jerking montage: “Been mad looking back at it all. Thank you so much for still being here.”

Fans commented: “You have no idea how good it is to see you back! We’ve b****y missed you Lewis!”

A second praised: “I feel like you left us as a boy and have returned as a man. I didn’t think you could get any better, but you’ve gained this very endearing mature charisma and I AM HERE FOR IT!!”

A third agreed: “Lewis Capaldi for the nation’s sweetheart.”

“Aaaaaand I’m crying again. We were never going anywhere Lewis, I would have waited 20 years. We told you we’d be right where you left us when you were ready to come back and we were. We love you and want you to succeed, whatever that looks like for you,” penned a fourth.

“We’ve missed you so much. You’re incredible, talented, brave and a beautiful human being,” commended another fan.

As he took to the stage on June 27, 2025, Lewis was met with chants of his name from 100,000 fans and experienced a very different sense of emotions.

He introduced his new song Survive to the Glastonbury crowd and told them: “My name’s Lewis Capaldi and I’m f****** back baby!”

His victorious set came exactly two years after he broke down on the same stage at Worthy Farm.

Lewis had ended his 2023 performance early due to repeated tics caused by Tourettes.

Lewis is now hitting the road in September for a string of huge arena gigs.

He will be performing in Sheffield, Aberdeen, Glasgow, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Cardiff and Dublin from September 7 to September 29.

My boy, 14, thought he was innocently flirting with a girl on TikTok – 35-minutes later he was dead

WHEN Morgan Moore got a call from her son’s dad, she wasn’t expecting her world to fall apart instantly.

Her son, Caleb, who was just 14 years old, had taken a gun and shot himself.

Caleb, aged, 7, was a popular, mild-mannered boy[/caption]

Like most teenagers, Caleb had spent the evening on social media and had found a girl online with whom he began innocently flirting, or so he thought.

Caleb and the ’14-year-old girl’ had met on TikTok, but soon moved their conversation over to Snapchat where she allegedly sent him compromising photos of herself.

The mum-of-five says Caleb then sent over similar photos in return.

But Caleb had been conned, the ‘girl’ wasn’t who he thought and was instead a sextortion scammer who threatened to release Caleb’s photos unless he sent money.

The online exchange lasted just 35-minutes and tragically ended Caleb’s life when he took a gun from the home.

In that moment, Morgan, 33, believes her son felt like he had nowhere to turn and shot himself.

Now, the brave mum has shared her son’s story to raise awareness and keep others safe.

Morgan, from El Dorado, Kansas, US, said: “I want his death to have as much meaning as his life did, which was a lot. He is very, very missed and very loved.

“I never thought this would happen to him or us. I found out about it right after Caleb had fired the gun because his dad called me.

The mum rushed over to the house as soon as she got the call, and while Caleb was still alive, she was unable to be with him in his last moments.

“When I got there, Caleb was still alive and breathing but they were unable to resuscitate him so they stopped trying as nothing was working,” she explains.

“He passed away in the house and it was very difficult because I wanted to be with him but they wouldn’t let me go inside as they didn’t want me to see anything.

“I was hysterical and screaming and begging them to not give up on my boy and let me go to him. I was inconsolable.

“It was the worst moment of my life. At this point, we didn’t know why Caleb had shot himself. It didn’t make sense.

“It was probably the next day when the police called and wanted to show me something on his phone.

They made him feel like his life was over as he had made this mistake.

Morgan Moore

“That is when they had gone through his TikTok messages and showed me the progression. It had stolen my boy’s happiness and hope in a 35-minute span.

“It was someone posing as a girl his age and they started flirting and she sent him photos and then ‘she’ asked him to send pictures.

“He sent the photos and these were of a compromising nature. As soon as he sent them, the conversation switched.

“This person began demanding money and making threats that if he didn’t send over the money they were going to expose his photos and his family and friends would be ashamed of him.

“They made him feel like his life was over as he had made this mistake.”

What is Sextortion?

‘Sextortion’ is a type of online blackmail. It’s when criminals threaten to share sexual pictures, videos, or information about you unless you pay money or do something else you don’t want to.

Anyone can be a victim of sextortion. However, young people aged between 15 to 17, and adults aged under 30, are often most at risk.

Criminals often target people through dating apps, social media, webcams, or pornography sites. They may use a fake identity to befriend you online. If a person you’ve just met online chats to you in a sexual way, or asks for sexual images, it might be an attempt at sextortion.

You should be wary if someone you’ve met online:

  • is trying to start a relationship with you very quickly (they may even send you a sexual image first)
  • chats to you in a sexual way, or asks for sexual images, soon after you’ve met them.
  • has sent friend requests to lots of people, not just you
  • repeatedly asks you to do sexual things that you’re not comfortable with
  • tells you they’ve hacked your account or have access to your contacts

Sextortion attempts can happen very quickly, or they can happen over a long time. You should never share sexual images or information about yourself if you are not comfortable.

You can still be a victim of sextortion if you haven’t shared sexual images or information. Criminals may have hacked one of your accounts, or created edited or fake images or videos, like deepfakes, of you that appear real.

Even if blackmail isn’t involved, sharing or threatening to share intimate photos or videos of you without your permission is illegal. This is called ‘revenge porn’ or intimate image abuse.

From the Met Police website

Morgan says her son had been using TikTok for about a year and says they had had open conversations about internet safety.

Before shooting himself, she claims Caleb even sent a photo of the gun to the TikTok user to try and stop the threats but it didn’t help.

Morgan said: “These people intentionally manipulate what a 14-year-old boy would be vulnerable about – their sexuality, the family’s wellbeing and social status.

“I don’t think Caleb thought that we wouldn’t help him, I think he felt like we wouldn’t be able to help him or fix it and it was going to be his fault and none of these things are true.

He had even sent a photo of the gun to them and they still didn’t stop and so he did use it.

Morgan Moore

“The most devastating loss I can imagine is losing one of your kids and now I’m in that situation and it was all so avoidable.

“I know Caleb had pleaded with the person to not send the pictures out. He had even sent a photo of the gun to them and they still didn’t stop and so he did use it.

“It’s so heartless and anonymous. The police are doing what they can but the reality of them tracking down the individual is really low.

“It’s incredibly overwhelming because even though Caleb was the most loved kid and happy, funny and responsible on these platforms and this still happened to him.

“I don’t have any idea how these people found my son and I’m guessing TikTok doesn’t either.

“I think there should be more accountability or monitoring [on TikTok]. There has to be something that they can do.”

Caleb’s funeral took place on June 16 and Morgan says around 300 people turned up to celebrate his life.

She is now using her son’s tragic death to urge other children to tell a responsible adult if they feel they are in danger online.

Morgan said: “Caleb was a pretty popular kid, really funny and goofy and made people laugh a lot.

“He was mild-mannered so got along with everybody. He loves sports and played football, basketball and was really good at wrestling.

“I don’t know how to stress enough to children to tell someone, your parents, about it or another trusted adult.

“You just have to tell someone because they purposely make it seem like they have so much more power than they do.

“You need to battle the false communication between the scammer and your child with open conversation with you and your child.”

El Dorado Police Department confirmed that the conversation began on TikTok before moving to another platform on which the images were sent.

It is unclear if Caleb had used his correct age to access the platform.

Snapchat said they offer ‘strong safety settings’ for Snapchat users aged between 13-17 and have a Family Safety Hub on their website designed to help families navigate Snapchat safely and confidently.

TikTok says they are deeply committed to making their platform a safe and positive experience for teens.

The social media platform claims that teens using TikTok who are aged 16 do not have access to direct messaging.

Adults using the platform are also unable to send message requests to teens and no one in the US can send off-platform imagery in DMs.

The platform said that when people receive a message from someone for the first time, they are prompted to mark the conversation as safe or report the sender.

Messaging on TikTok is not end-to-end encrypted, which the social media giant claims makes its platform undesirable for those who would attempt to share illegal material.

Snapchat said on their website page how they offer extra protection to teens to help prevent unwanted contact from strangers.

This includes strong safety settings for Snapchat users aged between 13-17, which means their accounts are private by default that also includes their friends lists.

Due to this, they state that users of this age can only communicate with mutually accepted friends or those whose numbers they have already saved to their contacts.

Snapchat also has a Family Safety Hub on their website which is intentionally designed to help families navigate Snapchat safely and confidently.

An El Dorado Police Department spokesman said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Moore family during this difficult time.

“We are amazed at the incredible strength and courage that this family has shown through the tragedy that they have suffered.

“We strongly support the fact that the family has made it a priority to share this story with others in an effort to protect the lives of other children and we intend to support this family in every way possible.”

Following his death, a GoFundMe page was set up to help support Caleb’s family at this difficult time.

After funeral costs his parents are going to use the extra funds to set up a scholarship fund for the local athletics team.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.
