Nick Knowles’ wife Katie reveals truth about why she looked so ‘disinterested’ at six-figure wedding after bride shaming

NICK Knowles’ new wife Katie has hit back after bride shamers slammed her for looking “disinterested” at their six-figure wedding.

The DIY SOS star tied the knot with Katie, who’s 27 years his junior, at an Essex stately home last month, before they celebrated their marriage on a £2k a day honeymoon yacht.

But Katie hit back at the cruel comments, as she insisted she was just nervous and desperate not to ruin her make-up as she walked down the aisle

Despite being back at home now, Katie is still enjoying reliving her special day, and took to TikTok to share a video of Nick’s emotional reaction to her walking down the aisle.

“When he looks at you like this…” she wrote over the top.

In the clip, Katie was seen looking stunning in a white dress with unusual blue detailing, as she walked down to meet Nick, who had opted for a powder pink tux for his big day.

The 62-year-old appeared overcome with emotion as he greeted Katie at the altar with a kiss.

And the pair were then seen waiting to exchange their vows.

“Walking up the aisle to the man who said he wouldn’t cry… and completely failed,” Katie wrote in the caption.

However, a lot of comments pointed out that while Nick couldn’t stop staring giddily at his soon-to-be wife, Katie seemed to be struggling to make eye contact with her man.

“She doesn’t look interested,” one wrote.

“Did she really want to marry him?” another questioned.

“I thought the same,” a third commented.

“He keeps looking at her wistfully but she looks as if she didn’t want to be there….strange….” someone else said.

“Looks like she’s ready to go home lol,” another added.

“She doesn’t look at him and looks like she doesn’t want to be there,” someone else said.

“Well you look very unhappy,” another insisted.

“Yeah I’m getting ‘I’m being forced into this’ vibes from her,” someone else cruelly wrote.

“Awww she’s the most unhappy bride I’ve ever seen and I hate that for her if it was just nerves,” another said.

Wedding makeup do's and dont's

Paige Williams, Founder & CEO of the iconic P.Louise makeup brand shared her tips.

DO: Go timeless over trendy
We all love a trend babe, but for your wedding day? Let’s keep it classic. Think soft glam, radiant skin, neutral tones with a pop of sparkle – You want to look back in ten years and still be obsessed with your glam. Classic never goes out of style.

DON’T: Try something totally new
Your wedding day is not the time to switch it up with neon liner or completely new brows babe. You want to feel like you, just the most elevated, glowing version. Stick to what you know makes you feel confident and gorgeous.

DO: Prioritise long-wear formulas
Your wedding is a marathon, not a sprint. You’re not just walking down the aisle, you’re dancing, hugging, crying, and posing all day long. You need makeup that’s in it for the long haul. Go for waterproof, transfer-proof & cry-proof products. Your face needs to slay from ‘I do’ to the last dance and be able to handle those happy tears.

DON’T: Overload your base
Babes, less is more. You want coverage, not cake. Go for that breathable, buildable base that lets your real skin glow through. You’re aiming for flawless, not flat. Trust me, your photos will thank you.

DO: Book a trial
Non-negotiable. Whether you’re DIY-ing your glam or booking a MUA, a trial is your makeup dress rehearsal. Test it in daylight, take selfies, wear it for hours. It’s the only way to know it’ll hit just right on the day.

DON’T: Forget your neck & chest
Don’t stop the glam at your jawline, babe. Blend that foundation, bronzer and glow down to your neck and chest, we’re going for seamless, snatched and sculpted from every angle. You’re the main event, let it show.

“It’s 10 seconds of video out of an entire 13 hour day meant to be about the way he looks at me,” Katie hit back.

“I was so nervous, every time I saw him crying I started and I had a full face of make up.

“I wanted to stay on my face for more than just the first hour of the day!”

“God forbid someone is nervous on their wedding day in front of people,” she added in response to another comment, while saying to someone else that she gave “no f**ks” about the criticism.

And there were also those in the comments who defended Katie.

“I didn’t look at my husband either when saying my vows as I didn’t want to cry,” one wrote.

Looks like she wants to go home!

TikTok commenter

“We’ve been married for 20 years. I wouldn’t read too much into it!”

“Ffs folk read so much into things,” another added.

“If they make each other happy then leave them be. Getting married in front of a room of people and cameras is nerve wracking.

“Wishing you guys all the best.”

“Finally a bride as nervous as I was on my wedding day,” a third commented.

“Someone came up to me after and said ‘you looked so stern’.

“It made me so sad because it was one of the happiest moments for me but yes I was nervous and hate being the centre of attention.”

Met Eireann three-hour thunderstorm warning for thousands of Irish NOW amid flood fear & ‘steering’ jet stream

MET Eireann has slapped two counties with three-hour thunderstorm warnings that are already in effect.

Ireland is gearing up to be battered by heavy rain and thunderstorms for the next couple of hours as miserable weather sweeps across the country.

Met Eireann warned that there is a chance of “a few thunderstorms”, mainly in northern areas, before it becomes mostly dry and sunny later as showers become isolated.

Temperatures today are maxing out at 14C in the northwest and 20C in the south.

Cavan and Monaghan are the two counties that are expected to be worst hit, with Met Eireann placing both spots under a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning just after 1pm today.

Warning of lightning damage and spot flooding as possible effects of the weather, the forecasters said: “Isolated thunderstorms moving eastwards.”

The Status Yellow warning kicked in at 1:01pm this afternoon and will remain in place until 4pm.

Once the warning is no longer in effect, Ireland can expect “mainly dry” weather with clear spells for the majority of the night.

However, Met Eireann warned that cloud will move into the west and north later in the night, along with some outbreaks of rain.

Temperatures will plunge between 6C and 11C before reaching their highest at 22C on Thursday afternoon.

And, although temperatures will pass over 20C in some areas tomorrow, Met Eireann warned it will be “rather cloudy” with outbreaks of rain, especially across the northern half of the country.

Those further south are expected to get mainly dry weather with some bright or sunny spells.

Met Eireann said: “The rain will clear eastwards through the morning, with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers following, a few heavy further north, with the slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm.

“The showers will become isolated later. Highest temperatures of 16C to 22C in mostly moderate west to southwest winds, fresher in the northwest and west.”

Looking further ahead, Met Eireann warned people to brace for an unsettled weekend with windy conditions and heavy rain.

The forecaster said: “Our weather will be fairly unsettled to end the week and over the weekend with spells of rain or showers and it’ll be rather windy, indeed unseasonably so on Friday.

“While it’s likely to be drier early next week with lighter winds, but there’ll still be some showers around.

“Temperatures will generally be around average for the time of year, though a little below in parts of the west and northwest.”

WHY IS SUMMER SO DISAPPOINTING?

Ireland’s weather is remaining rather mixed and somewhat disappointing this summer, but Cathal Nolan from Ireland’s Weather Channel has explained exactly why we haven’t been basking in sunshine.

He said: “The weather across the Atlantic is dominated by the NAO phase, which itself is a marker of how two areas of semi permanent pressure centres are behaving (Icelandic Low and Azores High).

“When low pressure is prevalent across Iceland with high pressure strong across the Azores, this is known as an NAO+. Which leads to mild wet weather for ourselves.

“This is the typical pattern that we experience in winter, with a somewhat greater occurrence of NAO- conditions during summer, but that hasn’t been the case over the past two summers.”

JET STREAM ‘STEERING’

Nolan said this pattern allows jet stream in the mid Atlantic to steer areas of low pressure and cloud our direction, while the rest of the European continent and even the south of England enjoy plenty of sunshine.

He continued: “It’s been scientifically proven that the AMOC, a key component of the global thermohaline circulation has been weakening and is at its weakest state in over 1,000 years.

“This in turn has lead to a cold pool of water south of Greenland and Iceland, which in turn creates a thermal boundary between the cool sea surface temperatures in the subpolar Atlantic while the subtropical Atlantic continues to heat up.”

Nolan said the thermal boundary becomes for areas of low pressure and acts like a “steering mechanism” for the jet stream.

This directs areas of cloud and low pressure towards Ireland and northwest Europe while advecting plumes of very hot air northwards across Europe from the African continent.

This has lead to the extreme heatwaves we’ve seen across Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, the Balkans and Greece.

Nolan added: “Finally, weakening of the jet stream caused by a reduction in the thermal gradient between the Arctic and subtropical zones in certain other zones across the globe has lead to a weakening of the jet stream, causing it to bend and buckle, meandering more slowest and getting stuck with increasing regularity owing to heat domes and omega blocks in certain locations, while other areas experience cooler, more unsettled conditions.”

Mum who lost arm & leg after she was run over by two Tube trains ‘contributed to her own injuries’, TfL claim

A MUM who lost an arm and leg after she was run over by two Tube trains “contributed to her own injuries”, Transport for London claim.

Sarah de Lagarde slipped on a wet platform at High Barnet station in North London and fell down the gap between the train and the platform.

She miraculously survived but lost an arm and a leg

The 46-year-old desperately cried for help but no one came to her aid as she lay undiscovered on the track for 15 minutes.

Sarah was eventually rescued but needed to have her leg and arm amputated after she was run over by two Tube trains.

The PR executive, who now uses two prosthetic limbs including a bionic arm, has launched a £25million legal battle against London Underground Ltd (LUL), part of Transport for London (TfL).

In defence documents submitted to the High Court, TfL has instead shifted the blame to Sarah – claiming her injuries were a result of her own negligence.

Denying liability, lawyers argued she “placed herself in a position of danger” because of how she got off the train, Mail Online reports.

TfL also suggest the horror was “caused or contributed to by the claimant’s negligence”.

Sarah was returning home from work at around 10pm on September 30, 2022, when she fell asleep on the train.

The mum was woken up by another passenger when the train reached the end of the line at High Barnet.

After getting off the train, Sarah noticed it was returning back the same way and stepped backwards to get back on.

But she slipped and fell through the gap on to the track.

Lawyers for TfL say: “The claimant took a few steps forward on to the platform and then took a few steps backwards, before the rear of her body struck the rear side of the door of the train she had exited from.

“The claimant continued to move backwards and, approximately seven seconds after exiting the train, she fell into the gap between carriages five and six of the train.”

Around five minutes later, the Northern Line driver walked back through the train to start the return journey southbound.

He noticed Sarah’s bag wedged between the train and the platform, which he later handed to lost property, but did not hear her screams or investigate further.

As the train left the platform, it caused devastating injuries to Sarah’s right arm.

She attempted to open her phone but her face was so badly injured the face ID did not work and it was too wet from the rain for the touch screen to respond.

A second train then drove over Sarah – this time running over her right leg.

Speaking previously, she said: “Twenty-two tonnes of steel crushed my limbs, and, if that wasn’t bad enough, I remained on the tracks undetected until the second train came into the station, crushing me for a second time.”

A judge indicated an eight-day trial would be listed at the High Court for early 2027.

A TfL spokesperson said: “We are responding to a legal claim brought by Sarah de Lagarde.

“It is not appropriate to discuss details of our defence while this case is ongoing.

“Our thoughts continue to be with Sarah and her family following this terrible incident, and we will continue to make every possible effort to learn from any incident on the Tube network.

“Safety is our top priority and we will always place it at the forefront of our thinking.”

‘Disappointing decision’ – Munster Rugby suffer early pre-season blow as glamour fixture falls through

MUNSTER Rugby’s pre-season friendly against Biarritz Olympique has been cancelled. The province were set to play the Pro D2 side on Friday 22 August.

However due to a delay to pitch renovations at the Stade Aguilera, Biarritz Olympique are unable to host Munster Rugby for the fixture.

Alternative venues were explored between the Basque club and the 2023 URC winners but “no viable and workable solutions were found.”

The cancellation of the province’s opening pre-season friendly will cause a lot of disruption for the new-look Munster team.

A Munster spokesperson said: “Given the disappointing decision by Biarritz Olympique, Munster Rugby will now make alternative arrangements regarding pre-season preparations.”

New boss Clayton McMillan would have been hoping to have a good pre-season before his first campaign with the Stags.

With new team manager Martyn Vercoe being announced to replace the departing Niall O’Donovan, the almost complete make-over coaching team will want to have plenty of time to work with the squad and have good pre-season fixtures.

The Red Army are still set to face Gloucester Rugby on 5 September and Bath Rugby on 12 September.

That will be a long gap in matches for the side who’s season ended in a heartbreaking penalty shootout against the Sharks on 31 May in South Africa.

It will be a long summer break for many Munster players to dwell on the agony of the URC quarter-final exit.

Tadgh Beirne was Munster’s only selected player for the British and Irish Lions’ Australia Tour this summer and has started the first two tests.

A large Munster contingent were picked by former player Paul O’Connell for the Ireland squad to face Georgia and Portugal.

Seven players for the province will be up for selection for the game in Tbilisi on Saturday with Craig Casey picked as captain.

With a record number of fifteen Ireland stars selected for the Lions, it gave an opportunity for players such as Alex Kendellen to get their first call-ups.

Uncapped players Tom Aherne and Michael Milne will be looking to make their debuts alongside clubmates Jack Crowley, Calvin Nash and Gavin Coombes who have already got a taste of international rugby.

Kate opens up about ‘difficult phase after treatment’ as she meets with hospital patients after dropping out of Ascot

PRINCESS Kate has opened up about the “difficult” phase after treatment ends on a visit to hospital patients and staff.

The visit marks her first public appearance since dropping out of Ascot at the list minute as she “had to find the right balance” on returning to full time duty.

The Princess visited RHS Wellbeing Garden at Colchester Hospital, in Essex, today.

She met with NHS workers and planted some of her ‘Catherine’s Rose’ plants in the recovery garden.

Kate spoke about life after cancer treatment, and told staff: “You know I think there’s a lot of brave faced stoicism through treatment, but then treatment’s done.

“I think the phase afterwards is really difficult, I mean, you know, you’re not necessarily in a clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you once used to.

“And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that phase that comes after treatment, I think it’s really valuable to have a space like this here for patients.”

She added: “But it’s life changing for anyone, through first diagnosis or post treatment and things like that, it is life changing experience both for the patient but also for the families as well.

“And actually it sometimes goes unrecognised, you don’t necessarily, particularly when it’s the first time, appreciate how much impact it is going to have.

“You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster it’s not one smooth plain, which you expect it to be.

“But the reality is it’s not, you go through hard times and to have a place like this to have the support network, through creativity and singing or gardening whatever it might be is so valuable and it’s great this community has it, it would be great if lots of communities had this kind of support.”

Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 after abdominal surgery at The London Clinic in January that year.

She finished chemotherapy in September and announced she was in remission in January of this year.

The royal’s visit today coincided with donations of 50 ‘Catherine’s Rose’ plants named in honour of Kate.

Funds from sales will go to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

And, the roses will be donated to gardens across the country including cancer hospitals.

This comes after the royal pulled out of a Royal Ascot appearance last month.

Kate was understood to be “disappointed” not to go but “had to find the right balance” on returning to full time duty.

The mother-of-three had sadly dropped out to continue her recovery.

Prince William then arrived at day two of the event in a carriage looking deep in thought.

Despite the absence of his wife, William put on a brave face and was seen smiling and chatting with other royals as the day went on.

The palace insisted there has always been flexibility around Kate’s engagements more than a year after her cancer announcement.

She had already attended Trooping the Colour and Order of the Garter in days prior to Royal Ascot plus a visit to V&A East Storehouse

Kate missed last year’s event as she stepped back from her royal duties before announcing her cancer diagnosis.

Despite her absence at Ascot, the Princess did subsequently write a personal message to mark the end of Children’s Hospice Week.

The mum-of-three is Royal Patron of East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH), and in January this year became the Royal Patron of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice in South Wales.

In a letter shared in social media she wrote: “No parent expects to hear that their child has a serious health condition that could shorten their life.

“Sadly, this is the reality faced by thousands of families across the country, leaving them heart-broken, fearful of the future and often desperately isolated.

“Being able to access the support of one of the UK’s 54 children’s hospices means they don’t have to face that future alone.

“As Patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice in South Wales, I have the immense privilege of seeing for myself the extraordinary work of our children’s hospices.

“Lifting spirits through laughter, fun and play, as well as listening, holding, caring and sharing, they support children and families through life, death and beyond.

“This Children’s Hospice Week, I hope you will join me in celebrating the life-changing work they do and thanking them for the vital care they provide to children and families experiencing the most challenging times.”

Kate’s appearance today comes as King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to carry out a number of engagements as Royal Week continues in Scotland.

The royals will kick off engagements today in Kirkcaldy, Fife, including marking the centenary of the town’s war memorial, and unveiling a commemoration cairn.

Queen Camilla will then travel to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, where she will host a reception for the Queen’s Nursing Institute of Scotland.

The charity provides professional development opportunities for Scotland’s community nurses and midwives.

It was founded in 1899 with a donation from Queen Victoria to organise the training of district nurses.

It also supports them in working collaboratively with those they care for to tackle health inequalities.

The King traditionally spends a week based at the Palace of Holyroodhouse each year in what is known as Holyrood Week or Royal Week in Scotland.

Yesterday, the King started his official visit with the traditional Ceremony of the Keys in the palace gardens.

He then presided over an investiture ceremony for honours recipients.

Later in the day the King and Queen hosted guests at a garden party at the palace, alongside the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.
