A TEENAGER has been left with a broken neck following a freak accident when he tried to cool himself down in the water.
Aiden Sloan, 19, plowed into a sandbar head-on while diving into a wave, his mom revealed.

He suffered the injuries while at the beach in New Hampshire on June 23, as reported by Fox News.
Aiden, who works in a noodle bar in a casino, was knocked out when he collided with the sandbar and his cousins recalled the moment they realized something was wrong.
Family friend Jessica O’Brien said the teenager misjudged the depth of the water.
Michael Henry said it looked like Sloan’s eyes were “bulging” out of his face, as reported by the NBC affiliate WBTS-CD.
Gabriel Ruiz, Aiden’s other cousin, tried to bring him to shore and said it was like carrying a dead body.
“He was just, like, not moving at all,” he said.
Temperatures had soared to almost 90F on Monday when Aiden was trying to cool off in the water at Hampton Beach.
Aiden has been left with a broken neck and suffered a bruised spine and concussion.
Mom Melina Burton has updated social media users on her son’s condition after his accident.
In one post from June 27, she revealed Aiden couldn’t squeeze or move his fingers.
Aiden can slightly move his left knee but still had no movement on the right, and he can control both of his arms.
“He’s frustrated that all he can do is lay there,” she said.
Melina also revealed her son has suffered nightmares following the accident.
A nurse woke up Aiden after he feared he was drowning again, according to a GoFundMe post.
Melina revealed she’s hopeful Aiden would be moved out of the intensive care unit, and shared pictures of her son enjoying a lobster roll.
She said he was determined to feed himself two bites, which he managed to achieve.
Aiden has been enjoying ice cream and orange juice while in the hospital, according to his mom.
She told Fox News Digital it was “heartbreaking” to see him defeated.
Tributes have been paid to the teen, who has aspirations of becoming a chef.
“He is the funniest human you’ll ever meet,” O’Brien told the Portsmouth Herald.

The Oasis legend is getting ready to return to the stage with the band’s first live show in two decades.
The super group will play at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday.
Yesterday, Liam tweeted a major detail about the first night of the tour, when he posted: “Oasis on stage 8.15pm Cardiff don’t be late or we’ll start without you and you don’t want that now do ya see ya there LG x”
However, the singer appeared to immediately regret his post – or he was told to take it down – as he deleted it straight away.
Fans took to Reddit to discuss Liam’s deleted tweet, with one saying: “Maybe this is a troll to get us in early to see the support.
“Or does this mean it will be a 3 hour show? Either way I’m so fucking excited for Friday!”
Another added: “There is a 10.30 curfew so that’s when it end.”

CRYSTAL PALACE’S agonising Europa League limbo has been indefinitely extended.
The Eagles place in Europe next season is under threat due to Uefa’s multi-club ownership rules.
AFPUEFA have once again delayed the ruling over Crystal Palace’s future in the Europa League[/caption]
John Textor, who is selling his majority share in Palace, also owns French side Lyon who have qualified for the competition alongside the south Londoners.
Palace bosses have been in talks with Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body to argue their case and were expecting a resolution this week.
However, with Textor’s financial trouble at Lyon having seen the club relegated to Ligue 2 the chaos drags on.
The seven-time French champions have appealed against the relegation but will forfeit their place in Europe should they fail.
In a statement on Monday, Uefa said: “The CFCB First Chamber has decided to postpone its assessment of the multi-club ownership case involving Olympique Lyonnais and Crystal Palace.
“This postponement relates to Olympique Lyonnais’ compliance with the settlement agreement concluded with the CFCB First Chamber for its breach of the financial sustainability requirements.
“As part of this settlement, Olympique Lyonnais agreed on an exclusion from the 2025/26 UEFA club competitions should the French authority (DNCG) confirm the club’s relegation to Ligue 2.
“Further details on this multi-club ownership case and this settlement agreement will be communicated in due course.”

THE usually unflappable Aidan O’Brien dropped his guard in a passionate TV interview after Lambourn won the Irish Derby.
The Ballydoyle boss was responding to criticism of the Curragh card on one of their biggest weekends of the season.
Aidan O’Brien offered a rare glimpse into his soul as he dropped his guard in a passionate interview regarding the current state of racingGetty
Some punters claimed a series of lower-grade handicaps ruined what should have been three days of top class action.
And, in their opinion, that led to a load of people snubbing the track – in a mirror of punters deserting Epsom for our Derby.
Racing TV presenter Kevin O’Ryan said he hadn’t seen as big a crowd for an Irish Derby ‘in a long time’.
But official figures showed the attendance had actually dropped from last year – when 11,400 racegoers were there compared to 11,200 this year.
O’Brien, the biggest Flat trainer in the sport, wasn’t having any of the criticism.
And he said people had to vote with their feet and get to the track to feel the atmosphere, because that is what will keep them coming back.
Getting uncharacteristically animated, a lit-up O’Brien said: “I think most of the criticism is unfair.
“If everyone just gets it into their head to tell people to come racing – not to be critical and not how bad it is – tell people how good it is!
“It’s the greatest nonsense, it’s negativity at its strongest.
“Tell people how good it is and everyone will come and have a good time
“That’s the problem – everyone in racing needs to change.
“Tell people how great it is and come and feel it.
“The more people who come the better the atmosphere, the more things will happen and be put on.
“We’re all in this world at this time, enjoy it and get together and have a great time.
“Try not to be negative, be positive!
“If you’re positive all the positive things will happen. If you’re negative all the negative things will come.
“Everybody, try to be more positive.
“Believe me it will be so much better for everybody because all anyone wants to do is get people in and help everyone and do the best they can for everyone.”
ITV Racing presenter Oli Bell was among those praising O’Brien, saying he was ‘bang on the money’.
Not everyone was convinced, however.
At a time when racecourse are coming under increased scrutiny for ticket and food prices as well as the quality on show on the track, one said: “What he’s basically say is sweep the bad things under the carpet? No thanks.”
O’Brien was speaking after Lambourn made it a Derby double following his win at Epsom earlier this month.
The Ryan Moore-ridden 8-13 fav looked under the cosh four furlongs out as his jockey got down to serious work in the saddle.
But he simply kept finding and repelled all challengers, including shock 28-1 runner-up Serious Contender.
He was beaten a length by King George V Stakes handicap winner Merchant at Royal Ascot.

But the 28-year-old DIY fan, who is from the UK and is currently renovating a three-bed detached property alongside her fiancé, confidently clapped back at the haters who have criticised her incredibly modern outside space.
Posting on social media, Emma shared a short clip of her brightly-lit garden, which is complete with artificial plants and grass, a chic fence and even a water feature, which will eventually be home to fish.
Emma’s garden also has a beautiful seating area with a trendy pergola, which will soon be completed with a BBQ, fridge and even a TV.
We think Emma’s newly renovated garden is one of dreams and is something you’d expect to see in a luxe interiors magazine.
The savvy woman, who started the renovation journey alongside her partner 11 months ago, gave spotlight to a nasty comment from a hater, which read: “That’s not a garden, that’s a chavvy Love Island garden in a council estate.”
But to this, Emma snapped back and penned: “Looks perfect to me.”
Emma later addressed the comment again and confirmed: “I’m not too sure where the council estate came from but we’ve worked hard to do this.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @_emma.lysette, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 376,100 views.
It’s also amassed 18,800 likes, 1,208 comments and 1,313 saves.
But while some social media users agreed with the trolls’ nasty remark, others were eager to praise the stylish garden.
One user wrote: “To be fair, he’s not wrong.”
A second admitted: “It’s a bit over the top for me.”
Looks fab. Ignore the spiteful comments. Pure jealousy

Whilst someone else rudely penned: “It’s the “Klarna” look.”
But eager to set the record straight, Emma responded and confirmed: “Everything has been fully paid for, no Klarna here babes.”
Garden features that add the most value to a house
A well-kept garden can add anywhere between 5-20% to the value of a property.
Sellhousefast.uk carried out a study and consulted 36 estate agents, garden designers and property professionals from across the UK.
And the experts revealed the garden feature which adds the most value to a property is a shed.
Shed – 82%
Patio or paving – 76%
Secure fencing, walls or gates – 72%
Outdoor lighting – 66%
Sturdy decking – 62%
Water features eg. fountain or pond – 58%
Modern garden furniture – 54%
Artificial lawn/grass – 40%
Despite this, many were impressed with the glam garden, as one person said: “Sign me up for a chav Love Island garden!”
Another added: “This is honestly unreal. My dream garden!!!”
A third commented: “Please can I have a chavvy garden then… Wow stunning!!!”
Meanwhile, someone else penned: “Looks fab. Ignore the spiteful comments. Pure jealousy.”

ROCK star David Roach has shared a brave photo from his hospital bed after being diagnosed with a “very aggressive” form of cancer.
David, who is the lead singer of heavy metal band Junkyard, received the shock diagnosis after falling ill with a “fever and cough”.

The musician and his fiancée Jennifer say their world has been “shattered” by the news and are now fundraising to pay for his medical bills.
Jennifer has had to give up her job to become David’s full-time care-giver while he receives treatment.
In an emotional Instagram post that was shared by Junkyard, Jennifer thanked fans for their support during the “challenging time”.
She added, “We wish we could respond to each of you, but honestly, there are no words right now. We’re still struggling to process the news we received on Tuesday.
“After David’s ongoing fever and cough led us to the ER, we got results that have completely shattered our world. It’s devastating and life-altering, and we’re trying to navigate through the emotions and uncertainty that come with it.
“David is showing such incredible strength and resilience, and even in the midst of this darkness, he’s still managing to keep his sense of humor. It’s a reminder of how amazing he is.
“But we know this journey ahead will be extremely tough, David made it clear he is not giving up hope and we’re going to need all of your love and prayers.
“Thank you for standing by us. Your kindness and support mean everything to us. Please keep David in your thoughts as we take this one step at a time.”
A photo accompanying the message shows David in a gown while lying in a hospital bed and hooked up to oxygen.
Replying, one follower said, “Sending love, healing vibes and prayers your way, David.”
Another added, “All the best mate. Literally one of my all time favourite bands that I put on once a week since their debut release.”
A third wrote, “We’re rooting for you all. Stay strong.”
And a fourth penned, “Hang tough, Roach! Praying for ya!”
David has provided lead vocals for Junkyard ever since the band was formed in 1987.
The group disbanded five years later before reforming in 2000.
The current line-up also features OG member Patrick Muzingo on drums, Todd Muscat on bass and Tim Mosher and Jimmy James on guitar.
Junkyard is now rallying round and doing all they can to raise money for David’s hospital treatment.
The band has launched a GoFundMe while also confirming David has squamous cell carcinoma, which is “affecting his head, neck, and throat”.
What is Squamous cell carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer that starts in cells called squamous cells.
It is not usually life-threatening but, if left untreated, it can spread to other areas of the body.
According to Mayo Clinic, most squamous cell carcinomas of the skin are caused by too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
UV radiation comes from sunlight, sun beds and lamps.
Symptoms can include: A firm bump on the skin, called a nodule. The nodule might be the same color as the skin, or it might look different. It can look pink, red, black or brown, depending on skin color.
A flat sore with a scaly crust, or a new sore or raised area on an old scar or sore.
A rough, scaly patch on the lip that may become an open sore, or a sore or rough patch inside the mouth.
A raised patch or wartlike sore on or in the anus or on the genitals.
Mayo Clinic advises people should see a doctor if a sore or scab doesn’t heal in about two months or if a flat patch of scaly skin doesn’t go away.
They wrote: “As many of you know, David who is a friend to all is in the fight of his life battling aggressive squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck, and throat.
“Currently David requires around the clock care and supervision. David’s fiancée Jennifer has had to step away from traditional employment to become his full time care giver.
“While they have applied for disability and full time caregivers assistance it is an extremely long waiting period to go through the processing and receive approval. This has put them in a dire situation.
“This has been a devastating blow for David especially after he finally found happiness, stability, and things were going well for him.”
At the time of publication, the total raised was almost $28,000.
Country singer Nicholas Mich has also performed a Benefit Live Stream Concert on Facebook to raise cash for David’s fund.

Earlier this year, he made way for a £2.6 billion decrease in the value of production and forked out £316 million in restructuring costs.
Despite the sweeping cuts there is no guarantee the firm will return to profitability this year.
So far it has estimated a first-quarter loss of $1.36 billion.

Nissan also told MPs earlier this year that it is due to end the year with debts of £10 billion.
The brand is reportedly considering several drastic measures in a bid to save its profitability with CEO Ivan Espinosa saying “everything is on the table.”
A Nissan spokesperson told The Sun: “Our Sunderland Plant remains at the forefront of our electrification strategy, with the new LEAF coming later this year, a new EV Juke arriving next year and our new e-POWER system coming to Qashqai soon.
“In order to support future competitiveness, this week we are beginning discussions with some of our team in Sunderland about the opportunity to voluntarily leave Nissan, with support from the company.
“This will support the plant’s efficiency as we aim to become a leaner, more resilient business.”
Why are so many car dealerships closing down?
By Summer Raemason
According to Business Rescue Expert there are multiple reasons why car dealerships are folding across the UK.
The first major factor is rising online car sales which are beating in-person sales at dealerships.
With an extensive range of comparison and second-hand sites to chose from, may car buyers don’t even step foot into a dealership anymore.
Secondly, the actual cost to physically run the sites has soared.
Rent, wages and energy bills have all been increasing for roughly the past five years, putting many out of pocket.
Car manufacturing across the globe was also hit by a semiconductor chip shortage in 2022 which made it difficult to produce new motors.
The high demand with limited supply created a backlog, which although has eased, is still having an impact on the industry.
A third reason for recent closures is the shift to electric cars.
They are becoming more popular, given the Government initiative to be Net Zero in 2050.
The industry is also affected when companies merge or are bought by rivals.
This may lead to some independent names falling victim to the ongoing spate of closures.
