I’m a proud trad wife – after I revealed everything I do people say I live like a ‘toddler’ or the Handmaid’s Tale

A WOMAN has hit back at trolls who dismiss her lifestyle as a trad wife.

Lys, from the US, took to social media to defend her ‘submissive’ role in her marriage, sharing examples of stuff she does for her hubby.

But many said it reminded them of The Handmaid’s Tale[/caption]

In one clip that went viral with over 8 million views, Lys revealed she even wears a collar to show her commitment to following her husband.

She said: “I respect my man’s lead. He provides, he protects, he puts our best interests first. I could ask that man for anything and he would go to the ends of the earth just to get it for me, and if he can’t, he’s gonna make it.

“My day collar is a daily sign of submission. For us, it is a deeper level of connection than a wedding ring.

“I fully rely on my man to protect us mentally, physically, spiritually. I fully trust him to the point where I am actively submitting to him.

“I’m not gonna constantly be this wrecking ball when he walks through the house. I’m going to be a safe, comforting place where he can go.”

The video caused such a storm online that Lys followed up the video to defend herself and shared how she supports her husband.

Lys added: “Yes, I am a trad wife. I don’t lay on the ground so my husband can use me as a rug to wipe his boots on, but I’ll take his boots off.

“I’ll make sure that he has a peaceful and quiet place to come home to. I’ll make sure he’s not met at the door with chaos and destruction.

“I’ll make sure that as a man, he feels heard. I respect his decisions. I respect his lead. I respect his thoughts.”

Lys refers to herself as the ‘suitable helper’ to her husband and goes on to say that being submissive doesn’t mean she has no voice.

“Embracing being a suitable helper doesn’t mean my voice is less,” she continues.

“It doesn’t mean that I’m silenced and oppressed. It means I’m embracing it. I am embracing being a suitable helper.”

The video also went viral on her TikTok account @farmmamalys with over 265k views.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments, and many women were quick to say the lifestyle Lys leads wasn’t for them.

One person wrote: “What in the Handmaids Tale?”

Another commented: “If you wanna take off someone’s boots like a toddler have fun.”

What is a trad wife?

A trad wife (short for traditional wife) is a woman who chooses to take on an ultra traditional role in marriage, meaning she makes dinner and looks pretty whilst her husband goes to work.

The trend takes inspiration from the idea of a 1950s housewife.

Many ‘trad wives’ choose to dress in the style of clothing popular in this period (think floral dresses and frumpy cardigans).

Additionally, the values considered important to trad wives are similar to strict Christian values.

Trad wives believed they were not forced into this way of life, and that it was their purpose to be homemakers.

The trend, which has garnered attention on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, glamorises a time gone by with little acknowledgement of the economic challenges facing families and mothers today.

“You do you, but I could never,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “So your life is his. Not yours. You’re an extension of his life.”

“Girl, want more for yourself,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “What’s the opposite of a ‘suitable helper’ I’m that.”

Why police were called to first Dunnes Stores opening

BETWEEN the weekly food shops and bargain fashion - Dunnes Stores is a staple retailer in Irish households.

But this wasn’t always the case, and when the initial branch of the shop opened its doors in 1944 it caused quite the stir

On March 31 of the year, Ben Dunne opened the first ever Dunnes Stores on St Patrick’s Street in Co Cork

Locals quickly learned of the grand opening and flooded into the store in what the retailer’s archives recall as a “shopping frenzy.”

The bargain clothing on sale inside the new store at “pre-war prices” was one of the factors cited for the buzz.

During the chaos a window was forced in and Gardai were called to the scene.

Cops worked to deal with the eager crowds and keep shoppers calm and safe before they made it into the store for their first Dunnes experience.

Fast forward some 80 years, the business now employs over 18,000 people and although an opening of a Dunnes branch hasn’t caused quite as much stir since the very first one, it has cemented its place as one of the nation’s leading retailers

Dunnes Stores now has 138 stores across Europe:

  • 118 in the Republic of Ireland,
  • 15 in Northern Ireland
  • Five stores in Spain

Two men ‘shot prison officer dead in revenge for exposing illicit affair with female guard’

TWO men shot a prison officer dead in a revenge attack after he exposed one of their affairs with a female jail guard, a court heard.

Lenny Scott was gunned down outside a gym in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, in an “act of retaliation”, it is said.

He had exposed one of his alleged killer’s affair with prison officer Sarah Williams[/caption]

Jurors heard he had lived in fear for his “family’s life” after he was threatened by prisoner Elias Morgan over a four-year period.

Morgan, 35, allegedly wanted to get revenge after Lenny exposed an illicit relationship involving him and a female officer at HMP Altcourse.

The prison guard had discovered a phone in Morgan’s cell that revealed the sexual affair with Sarah Williams, jurors heard.

Prosecutor Alex Leach KC said when Lenny refused a £1,500 offer to “lose” the phone, Morgan responded with “powerfully made” threats.

This included Morgan allegedly telling him: “I’ll bide my time, but I promise I will get you” before making a gun gesture.

Four days after the phone was seized, he made a 101 call to police claiming a car had been “sat outside my house all weekend”.

Preston Crown Court heard Lenny told the operator in March 2020 a prisoner had been “threatening my family”.

When she asked who had made the threat, he replied: “Elias Morgan. He’s described my family and me to a tee, described my house.”

Lenny said the threats came after he had “nicked” Morgan “for a phone”.

The prison officer said: “Until I ‘drop’ that, he said they’re staying there and they’re just going to constantly be around my house, and I’m just in fear for my family’s life.”

The court heard on February 8 last year, Lenny was outside a gym when he was approached by a gunman in a high-vis jacket who shot him once in the head and five times to the body.

Morgan is accused of being the gunman, while co-defendant Anthony Cleary, 29, allegedly left a van and electric bike for him.

Police have now released images seen by jurors of the pair together at Glastonbury in 2023.

It came just days Morgan entered a not guilty plea to possession of the unauthorised phone found by Lenny.

Morgan and Cleary, both from the Edge Hill area of Liverpool, deny murder.

Cleary also denies an alternative charge of manslaughter.

The trial continues.

I ‘live’ on a cruise ship with my son & fiancé – the food’s amazing, there’s childcare & our laundry’s done for free too

A WOMAN who “lives” on a cruise ship with her almost two-year-old son and fiancé has revealed some of the perks of her unique lifestyle.

Chelsea spends months at a time on the ship with her husband-to-be and their little boy Mattia, on a “friends and family” basis.

And Chelsea has done her best to make the most of the cupboard space in the room – using one shelf for Mattia’s toiletries
tiktok/@chel.at.sea

While her man works as an officer on board the boat, she and the tot are able to make the most of some of the benefits, including amazing food and free accommodation.

They share a room with Chelsea’s Italian fiancé Domenico, which means they don’t have to pay for it – although it’s a tight squeeze thanks to the travel cot Mattia sleeps in.

They also have an inflatable bath that they store in their shower when it’s not in use, and Mattia’s nappies and wipes take up almost an entire shelf in the wardrobe.

In videos on her TikTok page, Chelsea has been sharing an insight into her life at sea, as she said she does up to eight weeks at a time on board while her other half works – the limit for friends and family.

However, Domenico’s assignments mean he can spend up to nine months at a time on a ship.

So during that time Chelsea and Mattia split their time between the boat, Scotland – where she’s originally from – and south Italy, where they have a house.

“I say ‘living’ because we’re not actually living here,” she explained in a video on TikTok.

“We’re still passengers, but we are family and friends cruisers.

“But when we do really long cruises it’s basically like moving our life for that duration to be here.”

“And it means we can obviously be together for part of the long contract away from each other,” she added.

While Chelsea’s hands are full looking after Mattia, she is no stranger to life on board a cruise ship – as she used to work on one as a dancer.

And she knows about the best perks of temporarily relocating to the ship – including the amazing food.

She and Mattia are treated like any other passenger with the food that comes included with their “friends and family” tickets, which means they have to pay for drinks or if they want to dine at one of the speciality restaurants for a change.

There’s also a kids’ club on board, and that’s free too – although Mattia isn’t a fan.

Pros and cons of going on a cruise ship

Whether you're considering a long holiday, working remotely or even living on board a cruise ship for a few months or years, here are the pros and cons from a former cruise shipper.

Pros

  • Travel the world, learn and experience new cultures
  • Meet new people
  • Don’t have to think or worry about room cleaning, or food

Cons

  • Internet connection can be painfully slow and expensive
  • Limited luggage allowance so have to wear the same clothes on rotation
  • Having no control of where the ship would go next and the possibility of visiting the same ports
  • Having the same onboard entertainment, on-demand movies, and little choice of TV channels
  • No fresh newspapers or new books unless someone adds them to the library
  • Relatively the same food week after week unless major menu changes occur seasonally.
  • Occasional rough seas, bad weather and viral outbreaks while inboard.

“The baby care and club is completely free for everyone on board but it’s baby care 10am-1pm (no parents you leave the baby with the staff) , then you can use the area to play freely with your baby 1pm-5pm, while 5pm-8pm is baby care!” Chelsea explained in response to another comment.

“But my little one doesn’t like baby cafe they always call me after like 10 mins!”

Another benefit of joining Domenico on the ship is that Chelsea gets her and Mattia’s laundry done for free.

Domenico gets his done for no cost thanks to his job ranking, while Chelsea and Mattia are included in that too.
