No otorga residencia permanente, pero protege temporalmente contra la deportación y autoriza el empleo. Fue activado inicialmente tras el huracán Mitch en 1998.Para acceder al TPS, los solicitantes deben ser hondureños o residentes habituales, haber ingresado a Estados Unidos antes del año 1998 luego del huracán Mitch y no tener antecedentes penales graves. Este beneficio también permite obtener permisos para viajar fuera del país y regresar sin problemas.Actualmente, el TPS para Honduras está vigente, pero con una fecha de vencimiento próxima.
