I’m sick of everyone saying my poor daughter’s name wrong – people say I signed her up for a lifetime of misery
A MUM has been accused of signing her daughter up for a lifetime of misery with the unique name she gave her.
Em took to TikTok to admit she’s getting frustrated with people constantly pronouncing her little girl’s unique moniker wrong, and said it happens everywhere she goes.
![Woman in a car expressing frustration that people mispronounce her daughter's name.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/a0066db1-9e59-46d4-aa6d-527abf617335.jpg?strip=all&w=576)
![Woman in car discussing the baby name Elae.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/aa7bca29-20bd-4cc3-9bba-d9bb235323ce.jpg?strip=all&w=576)
“This happens every time we go out,” she sighed.
Recalling how she’d been in Home Bargains with her 13-month-old daughter Elae – pronounced L.A. – Em said the woman on the checkout had asked what her name was.
But when Em told her, she misheard it, and called her “Ella”.
Em then corrected her, but could see her “brain working” as she was “trying to figure it out”.
“I can see that they’re thinking that I’ve spelt her name with two letters,” she continued in a video on her TikTok page.
“And you can see I’m trying to figure it out.
“Like has she really put two letters as her name on her birth certificate?
“No, no I haven’t!”
And the mistake even happened in the doctors too.
“The doctor comes out, ‘Ely, room one’,” she said.
“Sorry what? Ely?
“Why would I call my daughter, Ely? It’s not Ely.
“Like why are people just not getting it? I don’t understand.”
While Em is fully aware the name isn’t “everyone’s cup of tea”, she said she’s always been a fan of unusual monikers.
“And I can guarantee that there’s gonna be no other girl in her school called this name,” she insisted.
“(But) I feel like this poor girl for the rest of her life is gonna have to justify her name to everybody!”
How do you change your name by Deed Poll?
WHILE you don't have to follow a legal process to change your name, you may need a Deed Poll to change the moniker on documents such as your driver's license and passport.
To get a Deed Poll, you can either make an ‘unenrolled’ deed poll yourself or apply for an ‘enrolled’ Deed Poll.
For the former, you have to be 16 or over, and you will need two witnesses, over the age of 18, to sign the Deed Poll.
You can use your signed deed poll straight away as proof of your new name.
For an ‘enrolled’ Deed Poll you must apply to the Royal Courts of Justice, and it will cost you £49.32.
For more information, visit the Gov.uk website.
“They’re just not getting it!” Em added in the caption.
People were quick to comment, as one wrote: “‘This poor girl is going to have to justify her name for the rest of her life’ …and you did that to her.”
“Why do it then?!” another questioned.
“If people decide to spell names a little ‘different’ don’t get mad at those trying to pronounce it!” a third insisted.
“As an NHS worker I see all sorts I can’t pronounce. We try!”
“If you pick an unusual spelling you must know you are going to get this,” someone else said.
“But why give her the headache of constantly having correct/justify her name?” another asked.
“‘Poor girl’ … YOU did that.”
“I’m nearly 40 and it p**ses me off correcting people daily,” someone else admitted.
“I curse my parents for my name!”

Love Island All Stars fans have now become so irked with the condition and quality of Grace Jackson’s blonde hair extensions, they are begging for external help.
Eagle-eyed viewers made their points clear as the bombshell was seen in the centre of a row between her show partner Luca Bish and Scott Thomas.
One bluntly wrote: “Grace’s extensions look absolutely ridiculous when she’s got her hair tied back.”
A second mused: “Grace and Harriett’s extensions, Lord have mercy!!!!” as a third continued: “Grace needs to chill with her pony’s her extensions look shocking.”
One then remarked: “Grace needs to stop the slick back hairstyles, her extensions are driving me nuts.”
Another pointed out: “Grace’s tape extensions are AWFUL.”
One then complained: “The real question is whyyyyyy is Grace having her hair in slick back with those horrendous tapes.”
Another put: “Grace you’re too pretty for this nonsense hair extensions abeg!!!”
Their complaints centred on the fact the model’s hair extensions could clearly be seen pulled away from her scalp when she sported a chic up-do.
CENTRE OF ATTENTION
Grace was at the heart of the action during the spat involving Luca and Scott, which was first exclusively revealed in The Sun.
Manchester businessman Scott had to be pulled off the former fish seller as the pair locked horns.
Tensions rose during a game, when Scott said he had a truth he would ask Grace, but then wouldn’t.
Luca instantly became annoyed and said: “Say it. If you want to go there, go there?” .
Scott insisted:“Bro I’m being respectful to you.”

Tina looked horrified and asked for someone to explain – and as she learnt the truth she walked away crying.
Furious, Scott squared up to Luca for the second time and asked: “This guy, who are you bro? Wow?”
The row came after Scott confided in the boys about how he was really feeling about Tina – who he is coupled up with.
He said: “I dunno where I am… something’s stressing me out a little bit… when she’s in the garden I’m not wanting to rush over… this girl is so good for me and the fact I’m not buzzing p****s me off.”
Fans now reckon they have worked out the real reason the pair squared up.

Abbey Clancy looks stunning as she strips off to racy underwear for sizzling lingerie ad
ABBEY Clancy looks sensational in very sexy lingerie for a new Valentine’s Day ad.
The 39-year-old model slipped into an array of saucy Agent Provocateur outfits that are sure to send husband Peter Crouch‘s heart racing this February 14.

Mum-of-four Abbey gave a powerful stare into the camera while wearing one bondage-inspired number complete with collar.
The skimpy see-through undies clipped to stockings and material crisscrossed over her toned torso.
She changed into a classic nude-coloured set with cuffs and stiletto heels and sprawled out across a luxurious bed.
Showcasing yet another style, Abbey wowed in a white corset and leopard print knickers as she peered intently through a gap in the door.
One artistic shot saw her in barely-there underwear reclining on the floor of a dimly lit hotel corridor.
And a final outfit saw Abbey looking great in Playboyesque plunging corset with matching collar and cuffs as she squatted on a small table in heels.
She’s no stranger to shooting sexy scenes now, but one recent effort with her husband proved particularly challenging.
The model wore skimpy red lace lingerie and sheer stockings as she danced across her hubby, who was tied to a snooker table.
Abbey said of the romp: “I’ve just done the new campaign for Agent Provocateur and we filmed an advert for it, which was hysterical. Me, Pete and Jaime Winstone.
“I roped Pete in, I was like, ‘Pete come one you don’t have to do anything’.
“Fast forward five hours later, Pete’s being tied to a snooker table by lace stockings.”
She added about the advert, which playfully celebrates their chemistry: “The weird thing is when you hear movie stars talk about doing sex scenes and they say it’s the most unsexy thing ever…
“The advert is really hot but at the time it was horrific.
“It was the most excruciating thing. There was like 50 crew and I had to just walk and tie Pete up to a snooker table.”

Shock moment teen gunman shoots cyclist outside Co-op in packed shopping centre sending onlookers fleeing for refuge
THIS is the shocking moment two teenage yobs fired shots at a cyclist before fleeing on an e-bike.
Ramarni Spencer and Pharrell McLennon blasted the victim at close range as they rode through a shopping precinct in broad daylight, leaving shoppers seeking refuge.

![Police officer arresting a person in a fast food restaurant.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image_9c1136.png?strip=all&w=960)
CCTV shows the pair, now aged 18, attack the teenager as he rode through the Bridgeway Centre, The Meadows in Nottingham.
The gunmen fled but were caught two days later at East Midlands Airport where they were waiting for a flight to Alicante, Spain.
Bodycam footage shows officers arrest the pair as they ordered food at a burger restaurant in departures.
They both pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Nottingham Crown Court.
On Friday (January 24), McLennon, of Clifton, Nottingham, was jailed for 13 years, while Spencer, of Beeston, was sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in prison.
Both will spend their respective sentences in a young offenders’ institution.
Police had initially been called to the shopping centre after a store employee reported hearing a possible gun shot which had smashed a window.
When detectives analysed CCTV they discovered there had been a gathering of young people at the shopping centre around 3.25pm on May 5 last year.
Two young men were seen on an electric bike before they both produced pistols and fired them at another youth, who was also riding a bicycle.
Detectives worked quickly and identified the two teenagers as suspects.
Investigations then revealed they were making attempts to escape the country.
Detective Inspector Chris Berryman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thankfully, we do not believe anyone was seriously injured during this incident but that is no thanks to these two teenagers.
“Their reckless decision to produce firearms and discharge them meant they were fortunate not to cause serious injury or worse.
“The incident took place at a busy shopping precinct on a spring afternoon. Terrified onlookers sought refuge in shops and Spencer and McLennon showed absolutely no concern for their safety whatsoever.
“They then booked tickets on a flight in a bid to evade justice – without realising we had already identified them as suspects.
“It must have been an unpleasant shock for them when officers turned up and arrested them in the airport departure area.
“Detectives and uniformed colleagues worked extremely hard to track them down and build a watertight case against both offenders.
“When presented with the evidence against them, both had no option but to admit their guilt.
“The weapons were not recovered so I would urge anyone with any information about their whereabouts to get in touch with police.”

Emergency hubs set up in worst-hit Storm Eowyn counties as 250k without power until NEXT weekend & school closure fears
EMERGENCY response hubs are to be set up in counties worst hit by Storm Eowyn.
It comes as 250k remain without power following the devastating storm on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Those impacted could be facing into another week without power as some services may not be restored until next weekend.
ESB Networks have said the some 246,000 still without power should see the vast majority of power supplies restored by Friday.
Crews have restored power to 522,000 customers after outages peaked at 768,000 on Friday morning.
However, in parts of worst hit counties such as Aghamore in Roscommon the ESB PowerCheck website gives an estimated restoration date of 9pm on February 6.
There are 812 affected customers in this area.
Around 65,000 people in Northern Ireland are still without power, with Northern Ireland Electricity warning that it could be February 3 before a full restoration.
And 100,000 are still without water as major restoration efforts take place across the country.
Large water tankers have been placed across counties still struggling with no water supply to allow locals to fill containers.
Some 112,000 people are now being supplied by generators that have been deployed by Uisce Eireann crews.
Head of Water Operations at Uisce Eireann, Margaret Attridge told RTE’s Morning Ireland today that they hope to have water restored to all impacted by the end of this week.
And Uisce Eireann are working closely with the ESB to prioritise restoring power to water treatment plants.
The Irish Coast Guard is due to assist in flying a generator to Inis Meáin today.
Areas most impacted were along the West Coast and Midlands including Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cavan, Monaghan, Westmeath, Donegal and Longford.
People across the country remain without broadband service or phone service as network repairs continue following the destruction.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE HUBS
And as these efforts continue across the country the National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG) has said local authorities will begin setting up emergency response hubs for those areas worst hit.
These hubs are set to provide people with “basic needs” who have been left struggling since Thursday night.
The NECG detail they will provide “water, hot food, phone charging, broadband access, shower and clothes washing facilities.”
It is expected these hubs will begin appearing in most areas today and in the coming days.
SCHOOL CLOSURE FEARS
Schools across these counties have remained closed today due to power and water disruptions.
And there are fears they could remain closed further into this week as those services are yet to be reinstated.
Dozens of schools across Ireland remained closed tomorrow as the water and power chaos caused by Storm Eowyn continues.
Schools across Ireland were forced to close already on Friday amid the nationwide Status Red weather warning.
In a statement earlier today the Department of Education said schools could make the decision to close “until it is safe to reopen”.
A spokesperson said: “Schools closed on Friday due to Storm Eowyn should open on Monday as long as it is safe to do so and power has been restored.
“Schools should carry out safety checks on buildings and facilities, check for fallen wires and any other damage near the school before reopening.
“If a school has any issues caused by the storm, the board of management can make the decision to remain closed until it is safe to reopen.”
