The little-known signs of deadly heatstroke you might notice when tired as temperatures set to soar to 26C in Ireland

THE HSE has warned people to watch out for the little-known signs of heatstroke that they may notice when they are tired.

As temperatures soar to 26°C in Ireland this week, the public are reminded to stay safe in the sun.

The HSE have shared tips on how the public can stay cool this summer[/caption]

As the weather heats up, it’s important to remember that higher temperatures can impact our health and wellbeing.

This week, Ireland is set to get as warm as Spain, with mercury rising to 26°C.

With this sun also comes the risk of heat exhaustion, which, if left untreated, can result in hospitalisation.

The HSE said: “Heat exhaustion is not usually serious if you can cool down within 30 minutes.

“If it turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.”

Everyone is at risk of getting one of these two illnesses as the weather gets brighter.

But it is recommended to keep an extra close eye on those who are more at risk of heatstroke or exhaustion.

Children, the elderly, and anyone with long-term heart problems like diabetes are all to be kept extra safe in the sun this summer.

Symptoms are often the same in adults and children. But children may become irritable and sleepy.

If someone is showing any of these signs, they need to be cooled down and given fluids as soon as possible.

What are the signs of heat exhsution and heatstroke?

As temperatures rise to over 26C this week, people are at risk of getting heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

But how can you know you are suffering and what signs can you check for to catch it early?

Many signs can include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness and confusion
  • Loss of appetite and feeling sick
  • Heat rash
  • Excessive sweating and pale, clammy skin – a change in skin colour can be harder to see on brown and black skin
  • Cramps in the arms, legs and stomach
  • Fast breathing or a fast pulse
  • High temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above
  • Being very thirsty

The HSE has listed many ways for the public to help themselves or someone else cool down this week.

There are four main things you can do if someone has heat exhaustion, like moving them to a cool place or simply removing unnecessary clothing items.

You should also get them to drink plenty of water or a sports or rehydration drink.

Or cool their skin using a spray or sponge with water and fan them, as well as using cold packs around the armpits or neck.

According to the HSE, you should stay with them until they have shown signs of a lower temperature.

They should start to cool down and feel better within 30 minutes.

When should you call 112/999 or go to your nearest emergency department ?

Heat exhaustion can turn into a more deadly illness known as heatstroke.

But how do you know when to call 112, 999 or go to your nearest emergency department?

If you or someone else has any signs of heatstroke, such as:

  • Feeling unwell after 30 minutes of resting in a cool place and drinking plenty of water
  • Not sweating even while feeling too hot
  • Very high temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above
  • Fast breathing or shortness of breath
  • Feeling confused
  • A fit (seizure)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Not being responsive

Heatstroke can be very serious if not treated quickly.

And you should always put the person in the recovery position if they lose consciousness while you’re waiting for help.

There’s a high risk of heat exhaustion or heatstroke during hot weather or exercise.

To help prevent heat exhaustion or heatstroke:

  • Drink plenty of cold drinks, especially when exercising
  • Take cool baths or showers
  • Wear light-coloured, loose clothing
  • sprinkle water over your skin or clothes
  • Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm
  • Avoid excess alcohol
  • Avoid extreme exercise

‘You’re not getting rid of me that easy’- Arthur Gourounlian clears up rumours after teary statement

Arthur told fans he was just saying goodbye to his old website

But 15 years on, Arthur revealed that the site had run its course as he decided it was time to let go.

In a statement shared to his Instagram, the celebrity choreographer said: “And just like that, an era come to an end.”

A message underneath the post wrote: “Goodbye, it’s been amazing.”

This sparked controversy amongst fans as they wondered if Arthur was deleting his social media account.

However, the 44-year-old was quick to clear up the confusion in a short clip on his Instagram story.

The dad-of-two told fans: “I think we need to quickly recap regarding the website post I posted yesterday.

“I am deleting the website and it is goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, but unfortunately for you guys I am not going anywhere.”

Arthur continued: “You guys know how much I love my social media, so I will be staying right here, you’ve still got me, you’re not going to get rid of me that easy.”

The TV star admitted that he felt “very emotional” deleting his website yesterday as it held so many memories from his career.

The Armenian native explained that when he began his dancing career, he built the website as a portfolio for his work.

He added: “But these days people don’t want to use your website, they only use Instagram.”

Arthur clarified that what he used the website for was “not the point” of his statement on social media.

And the dancer confessed that he wanted to show fans how emotional it felt for him to delete all his content from over 15 years.

‘DIFFERENT DIRECTION’

Arthur admitted that he was in floods of tears when it came to actually deleting the site, which left his husband, Brian Dowling slightly confused.

He said: “Brian was like, ‘Why are you crying?’, and I was like, ‘You just don’t understand’. Because it is all very emotional and close to my heart.

“Some people I’ve worked with are not with us anymore and I was just going over everything I’ve done.”

Arthur finished off the video by stating: “I am in a new chapter in my life and I didn’t need it anymore, I’m moving forward.

“I’m going in a different direction and that can be really good.”

Samsung could charge monthly FEE for top gadget owned by millions – and you’ll miss perks if you don’t pay

CUSTOMERS could be charged a monthly fee if they want to get their hands on Samsung’s latest update.

The latest software in the tech giant’s smart watch line introduces unrivalled health features, but also an update that could alienate millions of its existing users.

Samsung announced its new One UI 8 Watch update for Galaxy Watches on Monday.

The tech company is exploring the introduction of a premium subscription model, comparable to Garmin’s Connect Plus and Fitbit Premium, according to senior vice president Hon Pak in an interview with CNET.

But who will be affected?

Well, with only one month until its official release, Samsung has yet to announce who will have to pay to access this functionality, and also how much it will cost.

Pak told CNET: “We believe wellness isn’t just one thing. It’s activity, nutrition, mental health, and sleep combined.

“What we really think we can do is bring this data about sleep, nutrition, activity and stress, and really contextualize it for the user,” Pak added.

Samsung first launched its smartwatches with the Samsung Galaxy Gear in September 2013.

This watch update comes one year after the tech giant unveiled the Galaxy Watch 7, which retailed at £289.

The update will debut with the imminent release of the Galaxy Watch 8 series next month, but is currently undergoing a trial phase.

The One UI 8 Watch Beta Programme will be launched in select countries and will be accessible to those with compatible older watches.

Available in both the USA and South Korea for customers who enrol in the programme, the update will give them access to unprecedented health features before anyone else.

The update, once released, will give users a variety of health features, including a non-invasive Antioxidant Index check, Bedtime Guidance, AI Running Coach, and Vascular Load.

The reason behind having such innovative and unrivalled features is that the company aims to make a more proactive health monitor to help stand out in a market full of like-for-like fitness trackers.

Who gets these features?

The soon-to-be-released update and watch form part of Samsung’s goal of making clinical-level insights accessible at home.

While the features will make an official debut with the arrival of the new Galaxy watch in July, it will be available on some older models.

The compatibility for each device will depend on whether it has advanced LED sensory, which will be essential to power these premium functions.

Therefore, more complex features, Vascular Load and Antioxidant Index, will be available only on any watch after and including Galaxy Watch Ultra, with the AI Running Coach available on the Galaxy Watch 7 or later.

How much does it cost?

Samsung are also considering a change to how they charge their customers to access the feature.

It is not known how much this may cost.

The Sun has approached Samsung for a comment.

Bankrupt former World Darts semi-finalist, 59, stuns Gerwyn Price to earn timely Players Championship prize money boost

Les Burons darts player.

MERVYN KING’S form has gone “Boom” – three months after he went bust.

The Ipswich ace toppled former Ally Pally champ Gerwyn Price on the way to three impressive wins at Players Championship 18.

Ex-world champ Gerwyn Price was overwhelmed by King[/caption]

It couldn’t be more timely for King who feared losing his home after saying he owed “north of £500,000” to HMRC.

The one-time BDO world no. 1 exclusively told SunSport in March he even worried about how he could look after his three dogs.

The ex-world championship semi-finalist said he “hid my head in the sand” as his debts soared over the past two decades.

But King was in scintillating nick at Leicester’s  Mattioli Arena on Wednesday.

And top billing went to his opening performance.

The current world no.147 dismantled Premier League Darts star Price 6-2.

Averaging nearly 100, King bagged six of his nine attempts at double to clinch a 6-2 victory.

His Welsh victim Price, 40, is world-ranked 11th and has seven PDC majors to his name, including the ultimate prize at the Ally Pally in 2021.

King went onto beat Glastonbury thrower Justin Hood 6-3 before pipping Dutchman Wesley Plaisier 6-5.

But back-in-form Morecambe star Dave Chisnall ended the veteran’s surge by inflicting a 6-2 defeat.

But for King just being at the oche might be an escape  after he was made insolvent at the at the High Court of Justice in London earlier this year.

He and wife Tracey were anxious about the care of their three large pets — a Pyrenean Mountain Dog, a Pyrenees-Newfoundland cross and a Golden Retriever – should the couple have to downsize their home.

King made most of his money from darts at his peak from the late-90s to early 2000s.

However, he mistakenly thought the income was “winnings” and not “earnings” – and didn’t make it known to the tax authorities.

Two decades later – during Covid – he began delivering parcels for Amazon — and realised he could be near to becoming bankrupt.

He also started a construction business but “got rid of it” as he now can’t be a company director.

Legendary car brand set to RETURN to UK after a decade away – but only with the right line-up

A LEGENDARY car brand is gearing up for a return to UK roads after nearly a decade – but only if the timing and model range are right, according to its European boss.

The Japanese manufacturer known for iconic models like the Shogun and Lancer left the UK market in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, when a sharp drop in sales forced a rethink of its global strategy.

Mitsubishi is phasing out the current versions of the Eclipse Cross and budget-friendly Space Star

But now, Mitsubishi, says it’s looking at Britain as a key part of its European comeback.

“If you look at the potential and size of the market, it’s our preferred route to go back, basically.

But we need to have the right product line-up for that,” said Mitsubishi Europe president Frank Krol, speaking to Autocar.

Since its withdrawal, Mitsubishi has re-established itself in much of Europe, using models developed through its Alliance partnership with Renault.

This includes the Colt supermini and ASX crossover – both rebadged versions of Renault cars.

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi reintroduced the Outlander plug-in hybrid SUV to Europe, a model that previously enjoyed major success in the UK and topped the PHEV sales charts.

The brand’s line-up is set to grow further with the launch of the Grandis, a compact SUV based on the Renault Symbioz, which will be unveiled on 1 July.

An all-new electric SUV, built on the same EV platform as the Renault Scenic and Nissan Ariya, is also due this autumn and is expected to carry the Eclipse Cross name.

At the same time, Mitsubishi is phasing out the current versions of the Eclipse Cross and budget-friendly Space Star (also known as the Mirage in the UK), as they no longer comply with updated EU safety regulations.

Krol said a return to the UK would need to be led by the right models – likely including the upcoming electric SUV and a next-generation Outlander PHEV – rather than the Colt and ASX, which are less distinct from their Renault counterparts.

“These newer models would better reflect our brand values,” he suggested, hinting that they would have more appeal for British buyers familiar with Mitsubishi’s legacy of practical and robust vehicles.

A new version of the Outlander could appear around 2027, given that the current generation launched globally in 2021.

Despite the long absence, Mitsubishi still enjoys strong name recognition in the UK – but that won’t last forever, Krol warned.

“It is not preferred to have extremely a long period without any sales presence,” he said.

“That’s something we would need to consider.”

They said: “Our hearts are saddened to hear that one of our Little Blue Heroes in Mayo, Honorary Garda Saoirse Duggan passed away peacefully after a long illness so bravely borne, leaving behind her devastated parents Tommy and Martina and sister Éabha.

“Her laughter, spirit, and her gentle soul touched everyone who knew her.

“Saoirse’s time with us was far too short, but her impact was immeasurable.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam.

“Little Blue Hero smiled when you greet, now to take up duty on a heavenly beat

“Little Blue Hero we will never forget and always remember the times we had met

“Little Blue Hero under your care watch down upon us and your guiding light.”

A number of people commented on the post to send their condolences to Saoirse’s family.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilis.”

Saoirse’s family said they are “heartbroken” and that she will be “sadly missed”.

I’m super sweet on this 7-1 Royal Ascot tip who can be the new kid on the block in the Gold Cup

THERE’s something rather dishy about Philippa Cooper, and one of racing’s top owner-breeders might just pull of an historic win at Ascot on Thursday afternoon.

Philippa owns SWEET WILLIAM (4.20) who lines up in the most prestigious race of week, the £650,000 Ascot Gold Cup.

Robert Havlin with Philippa Cooper will aim to land the Gold Cup with super Sweet William[/caption]

It’s time for a new kid on the Gold Cup block, with Kyprios now retired and his trainer Aidan O’Brien relying on Illinois.

The latter might just blow the field apart and, as well as being proven at the track with a Queen’s Vase win last year, has been really well backed ante-post.

However, Illinois, last year’s Gold Cup second Trawlerman and interesting French raider Candelari will have to be right at their best to deny Sweet William a place at the very least.

Last year Sweet William was rated 109 when third, but the six-year-old — who runs under the Normandie Stud banner — is now on a mark of 116, which shows you he’s better than ever.

Trainer John Gosden has his runners in great form and has already been in the winners this week, notably with fabulous Field Of Gold on the opening day.

Rab Havlin gets on well with Sweet William who goes on any ground and is a rock-solid each-way wager at around 7-1.

Day Three of Royal Ascot 2025 starts with the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes for colts over five furlongs.

WISE APPROACH (2.30) looked a machine on debut at this track which was good news for Godolphin as he cost 1,000,000gns.

The son of former Coventry second Mehmas was unable to carry a penalty against re-opposing First Legion at York next time, but that was over six furlongs and I suspect he will enjoy dropping back in distance.

He still promises much for Charlie Appleby and William Buick and is another fair each-way bet.

Up next is the mile-and-a-half King George V Handicap for three-year-olds.

The well-backed Merchant has a nasty draw to work from, otherwise he would have been a big fancy.

The one who interests me is the James Ferguson-handled GUNSHIP, owned by Qatar BS, China Horse Club and David Howden.

He has form with Sing Us A Song from Sandown where he looked badly in need of this longer trip as he stayed on well from the back of the field into third.

Stall ten looks a perfect position to work from and Oisin Murphy takes the ride which can only be positive.

Another Group 2 in the Ribblesdale for three-year-old fillies over 1m4f at 3.40pm.

None of these have a crazy high rating but SERENITY PRAYER should have more to give at this trip.

The Andrew Balding runner was impressive on debut at Newbury and then chased him Whirl in the Musidora at York where she stayed on strongly.

That gives big hopes for this distance and she’s bred to stay well being out of a Galileo mare. Murphy is on top again.

After the Gold Cup is the Britannia Handicap for three-year-olds over 1m.

CONSOLIDATION looks as though he will relish a step up in trip and he gets it here for Ralph Beckett and James Doyle.

Gelded at the end of last season, my selection returned with a battling success at Goodwood and gets the help of the Wathnan No1.

Hopefully a low draw is not a problem.

Up in class again now for the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes for three-year-olds over 1m2f at 5.35pm.

Big chance here for Detain although he’s not a horse I like much as far as head carriage is concerned.

I’m happy to support TORNADO ALERT each-way for Saeed bin Suroor and the classy James McDonald.

The Guineas fourth and Derby sixth promises to be well suited by this intermediate trip and he has a perfect box to get a position from stall four.

Finally the Buckingham Palace Stakes Handicap over 7f.

WITCH HUNTER is down to 103 – the rating he had when taking this in 2023 – and he is an absolute specialist over this trip.

Last season he was fourth in the Group 1 Queen Anne when rated 109 so, while he has dropped 6lbs, is still just 2lb off top weight in this contest.

It could be tricky to win against some low-rated rivals sure to improve, but he really does have the ability to at least make a splash if he’s on a going day.

Sean Levey will be on top for Richard Hannon.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas!
