MILLIONS of Brits have been warned over a huge car tax hike to be rolled out in just weeks.

Electric vehicles (EVs) will lose a 10-year-long exemption from April this year.

Over the past decade, EV owners have been exempt from Vehicle Exercise Duty (VED) charges, also known as road tax – along with first-year charges.

In a matter of weeks, they will be forced to pay standard VED rates, at £195 a year, according to EVA England.

However, they can still access huge first-year tax discounts – with VED bills to stand at £10.

EVA England said this is to “ensure that the tax system remains fair and sustainable” as more people switch to EVs.

Soon, they will be aligned with traditional vehicles regarding standard rates, such as initial tariffs and the Expensive Car Supplement (ECS).

The organisation said: “Vehicle tax is changing for electric and low emission vehicles from 1 April 2025.

“Drivers will need to pay vehicle tax in the same way as those of petrol and diesel vehicles.

“This will apply to both new and existing vehicles.”

First-year car tax rates are also set to rise.

Plus, diesel buyers will face an average increase of £1,114 – more than double the £503 rise for petrol drivers.

Hybrid owners will pay between £135 and £327 extra, depending on the specific model they buy.

It comes after Chancellor Rachel Reeves made some adjustments to the VED tax bands in her Autumn Budget.

Ms Reeves said she was making the changes to “strengthen incentives to purchase zero-emission and electric cars” by making it more expensive to drive petrol or diesel models.

Under the bands, cars are categorised based on their C02 emissions, measured in grams per kilometre.

With the new rates, the most polluting vehicles producing over 255g/km will see a whopping £2,745 increase from £2,745 to £5,490 – a hike of 100 per cent.

He is now back at military training camps, drilling Russian troops, including elite paratroopers, for combat.

Novoselov, whose nickname stems from his “unbridled behaviour in the ring,” became a celebrity in Russia through MTV appearances and by training Moscow’s elite. 

His latest role sees him rubbing shoulders with Putin’s inner circle, including Major General Apti Alaudinov, the Chechen special forces commander and key figure in Russian war propaganda.

Only the Kremlin leader has the power to cut sentences for serious criminals, and Novoselov was originally due for release in December 2027. 

His criminal history is as brutal as his fighting style — convicted of murder in 1993, he spent 14 years behind bars, reportedly participating in underground fights in jail.

Following his release, he moved to Japan, where he became a popular MMA fighter, only to be jailed again in Russia for drug offences in 2014.

His expertise in Sambo — a Soviet-era martial art designed to enhance the Red Army’s hand-to-hand combat skills — is now being exploited to strengthen Russian forces on the battlefield.

Putin himself is an “Honoured Sambo Coach” and a “Master of Sports in Sambo,” according to the Russian Sambo Federation.

The combat sport, developed under Stalin, remains a core element of Russian military training.

With Russia’s military struggling for manpower and morale, the Kremlin’s decision to unleash “Mad Max” from his cell underscores Putin’s increasing reliance on criminals to prop up his war machine.

It comes as Ukraine blitzed one of Vladimir Putin’s biggest oil plants overnight in the latest humiliating blow for the dictator.

The Kremlin’s fourth-largest oil refinery exploded into flames after being blasted.

Spectacular footage showed the Lukoil-owned Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez ablaze in Nizhny Novgorod region after it was hit by two long-distance military drones from Ukraine. 

Russia’s defence ministry said 104 drones were involved in raids across the west, 11 of which were destroyed over the Smolensk region.

A major nuclear power plant was also among the targets – with air defence systems destroying a drone that attempted to hit Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant near Desnogorsk.

Smolensk region governor Vasily Anokhin said: “One of the drones was shot down during an attempt to attack a nuclear power facility.”

Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant is a key supplier of electricity to western Russia, and the same type as the notorious Chernobyl atomic station.

Debris from a drone “fell in the area of the Smolensk NPP”, pro-Kremlin Shot online media outlet reported.

Anokhin said the power plant – which has three reactors capable of generating 3,000 MW electricity – is operating normally. 

The oil refinery in Kstovo is the latest to be hit in a concerted campaign by Ukraine to damage Putin’s oil infrastructure.

Dibling is believed to be Leipzig‘s number one summer target.

But they’re not his only admirers.

SunSport can reveal Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also now chasing the player.

Bayern believe the chance to play with England skipper Harry Kane will persuade Dibling to move.

The English youth international has come up through the ranks at Southampton.

He got promoted to the first team at the start of this season and has not looked back since.

While the Saints have been struggling in the Premier League, the 18-year-old’s performances have been a massive positive.

He has been involved in 24 games in all competitions and has contributed to six goals.

The interest from overseas is matched by interest from here in England too.

Spurs and Manchester United are both believed to be admirers of the player, with reports suggesting Dibling is seen by Ruben Amorim as a potential replacement for Alejandro Garnacho, who could move to Chelsea before the window slams shut.

Tottenham are also reportedly trying to push through a deal in this window for the player.

But despite the interest in Dibling, Southampton are not keen to let him move in January.

He is seen as vital in what appears to be Southampton’s very remote chances of beating the drop.

But the player and his agent may have the final say – and could push for a deal to happen before the window closes next week.

LOVE Island All Star bosses pulled the plug on filming for an entire two days because there was too much drama, one islander has claimed.

Olivia Hawkins claims the islanders were told they didn’t have to film for 48-hours in the first week because so much had happened.

Olivia, who was dumped from Love Island All Stars a week ago, spilled the tea during a Q&A with fans.

She was asked on Instagram: “What do u do when u don’t film?”

Olivia replied: “Eat lots of chocolate and biscuits!!!”

She then added: “Fun fact, there was so much drama in the first week… we had two days off filming.”

The Sun has contacted ITV for comment.

Olivia was among the first 12 islanders to enter the Cape Town villa when Love Island All Stars kicked off earlier this month.

The series got off to a strong start with exes Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen coming face-to-face and Ekin-Su xx making a dramatic entrance as the first bombshell.

There was also an epic row between Kaz Crossley and Casey Batchelor when he made his third entrance as a bombshell in week one.

Olivia ended up in a couple with Marcel and the early signs in their relationship appeared promising.

However, last week they were given the chop after the public were asked to vote for the least compatible couple.

Even Love Island host Maya Jama branded their departure a “shock exit” while chatting to them once on the outside.

Marcel told Maya: “I feel like we had a really good compatible relationship.”

Olivia added: “I feel the last two days we got so close.”

Kaz was given the chop alongside bombshell Montel McKenzie in a shock mass cull.

Olivia posted a pic of Kaz and Nas on Instagram and wrote: “Can’t wait to squeeze you both.”
