Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ release date has almost arrived, and people are extremely excited about it. The game was supposed to be released last year in November but was pushed further away to March 2025, since the team thought more work would be done on it.

The game features 2 protagonists of different genders, each having a story independent of one another, yet their worlds do coincide eventually. The game will let players switch between the two and see the game’s world through different eyes while exploring various romantic options as well.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is liberal with its approach to romance
In the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will be able to engage in same-sex relationships much like some of the previous games from the franchise, including Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
The game has already been branded woke because of Yasuke, a black samurai. Ubisoft has laid down strict plans to deal with anti-woke criticisms. However, the romance option remains quite open in this game, and players will be able to engage with a wide array of NPCs in the game.
Romantic relationships can also act as strategic friendships that will shape your journey as you progress in the game’s world. These interactions will hold some importance in the game and help you navigate through challenges. A blog post shared by Ubisoft last year mentioned the romance options. It read:
Romantically, they will also attract and be attracted to different types of people. Through the pair, players will get to experience a multitude of relationships.
The protagonists, however, have not been explicitly talked about belonging to the LGBTQ+ community, though the game still gives players the freedom to approach it as a role-playing game and customize the needs and appearances of the character according to what suits their needs.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers players the freedom to explore and approach the game in the way that suits their needs the best; it will not be offering a linear experience to all. Players will have the freedom to take on a customized approach. The game will be released on March 20th.
By doing so, Ubisoft has also managed to steer clear of any criticism that might have ensued upon them otherwise and also shown respect to the LGBTQ+ community by providing enough freedom for players to approach the game in their own way.
This is not the first Assassin’s Creed game that offers same-sex relationships; apart from Odyssey, even Valhalla had similar options. Ubisoft does put in efforts to make most people feel inclusive. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was the first game in the franchise to feature a trans character, back in 2015. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
