Anya from Spy x Family is quickly taking over the ranks as one of the most popular anime characters in recent years. The show keeps intriguing fans with the light-hearted adventures, and myriad adventures of the undercover spy Loid, and assassin Yor and their makeshift family with their pet dog Bond.

However, it is Anya that seals the deal for many fans. While her cuteness and childish innocence are a huge reason behind that, there is a deeper reason behind her overwhelming popularity.
Although it might not be as intriguing as her mind-reading skills, it has proven far more effective in drawing fans to the anime these past few years.
The reason behind Anya’s popularity in the Spy x Family fandom goes beyond her cuteness
Anya is possibly one of the most beloved characters among anime children in recent years. The cute, quirky 5-year-old from Spy x Family has somehow charmed audiences of all ages with her antics. As such, it is no wonder that she has taken over the anime circles steadily since the anime started airing.
Whether it is her mind-reading ability that somehow always ends up with her inferring the most unlikely scenarios or her uncanny penchant for landing in trouble, it is charming to witness, to say the least. Moreover, her questionable habit of exchanging studying with much more fun adventures, or just sleeping if nothing else, also cracks up the audience at every turn.
Top it with her snark, funny anecdotes, pettiness that just comes out in the form of ridiculous plans, and childish innocence, and it is no wonder that Anya is the reigning queen of the Spy x Family fan base.
However, there seems to be a bigger reason at play behind her overwhelming popularity. That is, as much as her silliness endears the fans while making them laugh, it also makes her that much more relatable to the fans.
Whether it is her unwillingness to study, quiet freakouts over failing tests as a consequence, or the mental gymnastics she performs every day at the most minor inconveniences, people from all age brackets can relate to being in her shoes at some point throughout the day.
As such, although Loid trying to find his way through his dangerous missions while balancing civilian life and a family entices the fans, and Yor’s assassination skills and girl-next-door vibe intrigue them, it is Anya who feels the closest to them.
Fans comment on Anya being their spirit animal
As stated above, while Anya’s antics never fail to make fans laugh, they are also the very thing that makes her so relatable to fans. Commenting on the same, a fan recently posted on the r/SpyxFamily subreddit a picture of the 5-year-old during one of her freakouts over an impending test, “Anya is me”.

Others also followed suit by noting their agreement with that sentiment in the comments. For example, one fan stated, “Totally relatable,” while another added, “Anya is most of us”.
Someone else stated that since they are older they feel the same as Anya about their work. They further commented on her expressions stating, “Her facial expression says it all,” while another fan stated that her expressions “cracks [them] up every time”.

As things stand, it seems like her popularity only increases with time, as people find new things about her character to relate to every day. Moreover, fans also seem hyped about what new adventures await her, and by extension them, in the future as the series progresses further.
With Spy x Family confirmed to return to the screens in Fall 2025 (Screen Rant), though, they won’t have to wait too long to find that out.
Spy x Family is streaming on Crunchyroll.
